Honestly when I was younger. I thought the ship was fine. I wish I could go back in time to my younger teenage years to tell my younger self. No! It’s not something you should ship! Thankfully I did find a few good ships that are actually good and more close to Spike’s age. Gabby the griffin. And Smolder the Dragon. I honestly think him and Gabby would make a great ship. My biggest issue with the BoD universe is that Discord doesn’t learn to be a better person. He learns to be slightly less of a douche because he is obsessively in love with Fluttershy. In later sequels, he claims that after 20 years he only JUST tolerates Fluttershy’s friends. He becomes evil again in DoD briefly when he thinks Fluttershy is cheating on him, and Fluttershy outright says she gave up her mortality because “if I died, Discord would turn evil again.” He doesn’t learn love or friendship. Fluttershy just learns to tolerate this behavior.
I'm so happy that I only watch daughter of discord and not bride. It was still a little questionable at some parts but far less than originally series. If I remember correctly.
It was really a different time back in the 2010s, to be honest. I’m pretty sure the author was at least a child as well so it sort of makes sense why things in the plot are what they are in bride of discord… then again some parts of this give me the ick

Back in the day (I'm not old), I recall DisneyFanatic making QnA videos and in one they had mentioned that Rarity reminded them of their mother, and DF had a difficult relationship with their mother. Though, take everything I just said with a grain of salt, please. I could be completely misremembering or mixing things up, it's been awhile.
The biggest problem I have with BOD is how it unintentionally normalizes toxic or flat-out abusive behavior between Fluttershy and Discord Putting the whole kidnapping thing aside, there are multiple instances where Discord acts incredibly toxic and even downright abusive towards Fluttershy in the story. He never respects Fluttershy's personal space, he teleported her out of the room and holds her in a threatening manner when she doesn't want to leave her room, he acts butthurt when she reveals her nightmares to him (this is after he pressures her to tell him her nightmare and even snapped at her when she didn't), he loses his temper AGAIN when she rejects him, hypnotists her to try to force her to marry him (the whole conformation between them in episode 9 in her room is just really uncomfortable in general) ends up HITTING her, but the worst part of all of this is that it's Fluttershy that learns a lesson, not Discord Yes he does try to apologize in the last episode and there are a few times where his behavior is called out, but they also have Fluttershy apologizing, and a lot of the time it feels like they're trying to downplay how he treats her. Apparently, the original actor for Discord (who played him up till episode 9 where he was replaced for episode 10 onwards) even left the project because he felt uncomfortable with how the relationship was portrayed, and I don't blame him. Discord is basically a 'nice guy' in this story I also wanna bring up the whole AJ and Spike romance because oof, even as a kid I found it really weird, and is arguably even worse than the Discord and Fluttershy stuff. I don't think SF had any ill intentions but even then it's still really weird and kinda gross to have this relationship even though the show itself made it clear that Spike was WAY younger than the ponies (who are at least young adults) I know this wasn't a new problem since back then it was common to unironically ship Spike with Rarity, but it doesn't change just how creepy it was I think instead of AJ having feelings towards Spike, has it where she wants to help Spike realize that he and Rarity aren't gonna work (for obvious reasons) but is struggling because she doesn't want Spike's feelings to get hurt. You could even have it where revealed in the scene between AJ and Zecora that AJ actually had fallen in love with Rarity, but was heartbroken when she found out that she was in love with someone else, so she doesn't want Spike to feel that heartbreak. Or if you do wanna do this love triangle, why not have Applebloom be the one to have a crush on Spike since she would be around the same age, it would be even more of a reason why Applejack would be part of this side plot, she could still help Spike with realizing that he and Rarity aren't gonna work out while also helping her sister with her growing feelings towards him I just find it unfortunate how the story unintentionally normalizes toxic relationships and partners, but it's clear that wasn't the intent and this isn't me encouraging others to harass DF or anyone who worked on the project, I hope they all can learn from this experience and improve as writers/artist/voice actors
Totally agree. Fantasizing about toxic relationships is a no no. I do feel like it could've been really great if they fleshed out a few things and fixed the dynamic. Especially because the power dynamic is apparent. Not the Spike and Applejack thing tho, that's cursed 💀

The “bad boy” stuff was all the rage and I’m gonna be honest, the 2000s and 2010s were extremely sexist and very much impacted how people including (including me) perceived relationships and whatnot

Discord is literally so abusive in this fanfic in ways I can't imagine him acting in the show. Like everything he does is a manipulation tactic: he isolates her from her support system (aka her friends), he manipulates her emotions to get what he wants, he makes out everyone else around fluttershy to be the bad guy, so she trusts him and only him. He breaks his own promises to Fluttershy but gets incredibly angry when she does the same. He treats her like an object, not considering her own feelings. He controls her. He makes it impossible for her to leave. He is abusive, in all the ways people said the Beast was. But this is NOT Beauty and the Beast. This kidnapping, coercion, manipulation and emotional abuse. Honestly, I'm really glad I never got this far into the audio drama when I was young, because this is so inappropriate lol. No hate to the creators but My Gosh, I would never let my child watch something like this.

But yeah BOD has it bad writing but like all of us except for one artist I think were all under the age of 19 dumb teenager and minors when we were working on this story we didnt see how truely toxic it was till years later. Was it fun working on it yes and no it was stressful artist didn't get a lot of recongision some of the people we worked with turned out to be hella toxic. but a small few of the of crew both from BOD and DOD still hang out.

Honestly, I approve of fluttercord as a ship, as both sides while they do feel like opposites, are oddly compatible, fluttershy while timid is kind and is willing to show kindness to anyone that needs it, discord while chaotic does clearly crave attention, and knows how to use his power for entertainment, which are seen in the show, and discord does clearly have a bond form in the main show, though me is no brony so take my opinion with a brick of salt. However the way it’s done in bride, was a bit iffy, namely because we see basically no build up to the start of the romantic side of the relationship, while discord does shower fluttershy with various gifts, it weirdly lacks a seed that would’ve grown into being the romantic relationship. but thankfully daughter of discord did make the relationship feel much much more honest. As discord cares for his family and shows legit love to fluttershy.But wow, apple spike as a ship, we asked 1000 people wether they approve of it, survey says, DING 900 people, NO number one answer, 99 people with eh, and only one person with yes. I would honestly see spike maybe being single and adopting children as a more likely scenario
From what I remember DF used to do QnA videos and in one they revealed when they were younger, the time they created this audio drama, that they were kind of homophobic at the time, but now as they're older have changed and even came out as ace themselves. During the time of this audio drama being made DF was 18, about 17 when writing the fanfiction, and would now be in about late twenties to early or mid thirties. Please, take this with a grain of salt, however, because I could be misremembering all of this.

The switch between discord being endearing and then pushy gave me whiplash in a way you perfectly portrayed. I love this series but some of it can definitely be hard to sit through now that I've matured. I have a core memory of quietly hating queen as a kid because I thought they copied the song from bride of discord.

The girl gets sent to a prisoner of a monster in exchange for the life of someone else and is asked every night if she love him. When she rejects the monster, the monster gets angry, but doesn’t really do anything to her. She separated from her friends/family, they miss her. It wasn’t until this scene where he is told to cater to her interest that it clicked because that’s exactly how the Disney one went.

I'm in tears, I've never even known about this piece of media until today but damn it takes me back to the insane fandom days (/pos). The characterization in this is like, actually very good at some parts? Ofc ignoring the very questionable moments, but it feels in-character. Speaking of questionable moments, I swear Discord's behavior is like Abuser 101, especially chapter 9 and the whole confrontation with Fluttershy oh my god. The production of this is also crazy, VAs and full animation in the finale, and all this led by presumably a teen at best, wouldn't be surprised if the author now works in the entertaintment industry cause holy that is a lot.
It's a unique feeling, hearing someone speak about something so personal to me, and you did a phenomenal job breaking it down, pointing out the good and the bad, and making me laugh so, so many times throughout. My biggest issue with the BoD universe is that Discord doesn’t learn to be a better person. He learns to be slightly less of a douche because he is obsessively in love with Fluttershy.
In later sequels, he claims that after 20 years he only JUST tolerates Fluttershy’s friends. He becomes evil again in DoD briefly when he thinks Fluttershy is cheating on him, and Fluttershy outright says she gave up her mortality because “if I died, Discord would turn evil again.”
He doesn’t learn love or friendship. Fluttershy just learns to tolerate this behavior.

Back in the day (I'm not old), I recall DisneyFanatic making QnA videos and in one they had mentioned that Rarity reminded them of their mother, and DF had a difficult relationship with their mother. Though, take everything I just said with a grain of salt, please. I could be completely misremembering or mixing things up, it's been awhile.
The biggest problem I have with BOD is how it unintentionally normalizes toxic or flat-out abusive behavior between Fluttershy and Discord
Putting the whole kidnapping thing aside, there are multiple instances where Discord acts incredibly toxic and even downright abusive towards Fluttershy in the story. He never respects Fluttershy's personal space, he teleported her out of the room and holds her in a threatening manner when she doesn't want to leave her room, he acts butthurt when she reveals her nightmares to him (this is after he pressures her to tell him her nightmare and even snapped at her when she didn't), he loses his temper AGAIN when she rejects him, hypnotists her to try to force her to marry him (the whole conformation between them in episode 9 in her room is just really uncomfortable in general) ends up HITTING her, but the worst part of all of this is that it's Fluttershy that learns a lesson, not Discord
Yes he does try to apologize in the last episode and there are a few times where his behavior is called out, but they also have Fluttershy apologizing, and a lot of the time it feels like they're trying to downplay how he treats her. Apparently, the original actor for Discord (who played him up till episode 9 where he was replaced for episode 10 onwards) even left the project because he felt uncomfortable with how the relationship was portrayed, and I don't blame him. Discord is basically a 'nice guy' in this story
I also wanna bring up the whole AJ and Spike romance because oof, even as a kid I found it really weird, and is arguably even worse than the Discord and Fluttershy stuff. I don't think SF had any ill intentions but even then it's still really weird and kinda gross to have this relationship even though the show itself made it clear that Spike was WAY younger than the ponies (who are at least young adults) I know this wasn't a new problem since back then it was common to unironically ship Spike with Rarity, but it doesn't change just how creepy it was
I think instead of AJ having feelings towards Spike, has it where she wants to help Spike realize that he and Rarity aren't gonna work (for obvious reasons) but is struggling because she doesn't want Spike's feelings to get hurt. You could even have it where revealed in the scene between AJ and Zecora that AJ actually had fallen in love with Rarity, but was heartbroken when she found out that she was in love with someone else, so she doesn't want Spike to feel that heartbreak. Or if you do wanna do this love triangle, why not have Applebloom be the one to have a crush on Spike since she would be around the same age, it would be even more of a reason why Applejack would be part of this side plot, she could still help Spike with realizing that he and Rarity aren't gonna work out while also helping her sister with her growing feelings towards him
I just find it unfortunate how the story unintentionally normalizes toxic relationships and partners, but it's clear that wasn't the intent and this isn't me encouraging others to harass DF or anyone who worked on the project, I hope they all can learn from this experience and improve as writers/artist/voice actors
Totally agree. Fantasizing about toxic relationships is a no no. I do feel like it could've been really great if they fleshed out a few things and fixed the dynamic. Especially because the power dynamic is apparent. Not the Spike and Applejack thing tho, that's cursed 💀

The “bad boy” stuff was all the rage and I’m gonna be honest, the 2000s and 2010s were extremely sexist and very much impacted how people including (including me) perceived relationships and whatnot

Discord is literally so abusive in this fanfic in ways I can't imagine him acting in the show. Like everything he does is a manipulation tactic: he isolates her from her support system (aka her friends), he manipulates her emotions to get what he wants, he makes out everyone else around fluttershy to be the bad guy, so she trusts him and only him. He breaks his own promises to Fluttershy but gets incredibly angry when she does the same. He treats her like an object, not considering her own feelings. He controls her. He makes it impossible for her to leave.
He is abusive, in all the ways people said the Beast was. But this is NOT Beauty and the Beast. This kidnapping, coercion, manipulation and emotional abuse. Honestly, I'm really glad I never got this far into the audio drama when I was young, because this is so inappropriate lol. No hate to the creators but My Gosh, I would never let my child watch something like this.

I was battle my own abusive relationship at that point and I'm like yeah Discord is acting how my ex was, it actually helped me figure it out so I could leave the relationship. But yeah BOD has it bad writing but like all of us except for one artist I think were all under the age of 19 dumb teenager and minors when we were working on this story we didnt see how truely toxic it was till years later. Was it fun working on it yes and no it was stressful artist didn't get a lot of recongision some of the people we worked with turned out to be hella toxic. but a small few of the of crew both from BOD and DOD still hang out.

Honestly, I approve of fluttercord as a ship, as both sides while they do feel like opposites, are oddly compatible, fluttershy while timid is kind and is willing to show kindness to anyone that needs it, discord while chaotic does clearly crave attention, and knows how to use his power for entertainment, which are seen in the show, and discord does clearly have a bond form in the main show, though me is no brony so take my opinion with a brick of salt. However the way it’s done in bride, was a bit iffy, namely because we see basically no build up to the start of the romantic side of the relationship, while discord does shower fluttershy with various gifts, it weirdly lacks a seed that would’ve grown into being the romantic relationship. but thankfully daughter of discord did make the relationship feel much much more honest. As discord cares for his family and shows legit love to fluttershy.But wow, apple spike as a ship, we asked 1000 people wether they approve of it, survey says, DING 900 people, NO number one answer, 99 people with eh, and only one person with yes. I would honestly see spike maybe being single and adopting children as a more likely scenario

From what I remember DF used to do QnA videos and in one they revealed when they were younger, the time they created this audio drama, that they were kind of homophobic at the time, but now as they're older have changed and even came out as ace themselves. During the time of this audio drama being made DF was 18, about 17 when writing the fanfiction, and would now be in about late twenties to early or mid thirties. Please, take this with a grain of salt, however, because I could be misremembering all of this.

Fluttershy is 100% also an asshole by implying all Discord wants is love as if he didnt threaten an unborn child. The girl gets sent to a prisoner of a monster in exchange for the life of someone else and is asked every night if she love him. When she rejects the monster, the monster gets angry, but doesn’t really do anything to her. She separated from her friends/family, they miss her. It wasn’t until this scene where he is told to cater to her interest that it clicked because that’s exactly how the Disney one went.

As much as I love the concept and story this comic was something else 😭😭 definitely want a rewrite of this and daughter of discord
The only thing I really ok with this is that discord didn’t just grab a bride but let someone come to him with there own choice

I'm in tears, I've never even known about this piece of media until today but damn it takes me back to the insane fandom days (/pos). The characterization in this is like, actually very good at some parts? Ofc ignoring the very questionable moments, but it feels in-character. Speaking of questionable moments, I swear Discord's behavior is like Abuser 101, especially chapter 9 and the whole confrontation with Fluttershy oh my god.
The production of this is also crazy, VAs and full animation in the finale, and all this led by presumably a teen at best, wouldn't be surprised if the author now works in the entertaintment industry cause holy that is a lot.
It's a unique feeling, hearing someone speak about something so personal to me, and you did a phenomenal job breaking it down, pointing out the good and the bad, and making me laugh so, so many times throughout. This series has a special place in my heart, despite its flaws, and I truly enjoyed listening to every second of this video. Thank you ❤️
