    The revamped Gillette Fatboy was my favorite adjustable razor until I got my Rex Konsul on your Black Friday sale. I love both of these razors, but the Rex Konsul is on another level. The Rex Konsul is a gorgeous well engineered tank of a razor. The Rex Konsul is a smooth efficient shave, and I can turn it down to 1 for my neck ATG !

    I just started wet shaving a few weeks ago, after a lifetime of electric shavers (I’m 59). I ordered a 1963 Gillette Slim Adjustable from Razor Emporium and it is working great. I was going to try the Fatboy, but thought the longer handle might be better. I’m now experiencing the best shaves of my life. I had been afraid of blades, due to a bad experience in high school with significant face irritation from disposable cartridge razors. My brother convinced me to try DE shaving, and so I jumped in. I’m loving it so much, I just ordered a Konsul from you that arrives tomorrow. Can’t wait to try it.
    Hoping you offer a longer handle, butterfly opening Konsul soon.

    Hey,Bob, I have all the Gillette cartridge Razors from circa 1969/70 till this proglide Gillette cartridge razor. My favorite Gillette Fusion5 Power cartridge razor. The first Gillette DE black handle USA razor I bought was in 1970 when I was in College. And the piece de resistance is 1959 Gillette USA Adjustable DE Razor Executive set gold razor from my dear departed Grandfather still in mint condition. The Gillette Fusion Power 5 gives me great shaves.Also the Gillette Executive Adjustable DE Razor. I used to put on my face after shave Old Spice, Brut, Tabac, Aqua Velva, Nivea, and one Napoleon After shave I bought from Beirut,Lebanon.
    Now after shave I apply a turmeric cream which is very good for skin from India and it's 'Vicco turmeric Cream'. ! You use it and you are in heaven.!
    I just don't understand how you people doing the videos go and do three passes of shaving. Well, I don't.!
    For me I go into the bathroom first I wash my face with soap and water and then apply Gillette Shave gel or foam and with my razor I go only once with precise angle and the shaving is over.! I shave every alternate day. ! Thankyou.

    I admire my Gillette's BUT never seem to reach a real close shave with them. Love adjustables generally and with the Merkur Progress on 5,4,3 I get a smooth, close and long lasting shave. I think, because of my really thick beard and my relatively soft skin, I need "aggressive" razors. It gets more hair down on fewer strokes, which results in less irritation. Just my conclusion for my beard and skin. YMMV
    And the Konsul is a step forward in my opinion. Love the names by the way (Konsul, Ambassador)

    Great video Matt! I neat comparison… I’ve never tried your consul, or any other slant razor. I do have the Gillette Fatboy from your store. A beautiful finish in rhodium. And I absolutely love it. I disagree, I do feel that the higher settings do give a nice close shave. If I want an extremely close and comfortable shape, I reach for the Fatboy. However, nothing beats the Rockwell 6s, At least not for a comfortable shave… It is my every day shaver. Although a traditional adjustable is quicker to move up and down on the fly, I do not find the plates on the Rockwell that cumbersome at all… Often an adjustable razor we find a setting we like, and we stick with it anyways. When I do my head shaved in three passes; I just flip the plates out in each pass. Starting out at six, then five, then four. For every day shaves on the face, I use the four plate on the first pass, four plate on the second pass on my face, and turn it around for a two on the second pass on the neck. Fairly quick. Anyways this is what works for me, thanks again for the video!

    • @BartBuzz
      @BartBuzz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you regarding the 6S. I'm an everyday shaver and use the R3/1 plate. My first two passes are with the R3 plate and I flip to R1 for pass 3 and pickups. It's not cumbersome at all. If I have 2-3 days of growth, I may use R5 or R6 for the first pass. I always get a comfortable and smooth BBS (or DFS) with my 6S. I bet for true adjustables that most shavers find a setting that works and stick with it. Then again YMMV and that's what makes DE shaving so enjoyable.

    • @BuffaloNickel9
      @BuffaloNickel9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the 6s shaved fine but the plate changing was cumbersome just like Matt said! it was a pain to switch the different plates out three different times during a 3 pass shave- quite ridiculous actually with wet hands and having to reapply the lather, rinse face, alum, aftershave, clean-up, etc who wants to add 3 plate n changes in there.😄
      I mean certainly if you are dedicated you can do it everyday but I just picked one plate in the middle aggressiveness and went with it... whereas the fat boy and the Rex console are *so much more preferred* for me Just Dial It Up or dial it down whichever way you progress for your 3 pass shave in literally 1 second... guy sells razors for living he knows his stuff. He's just shooting it to you straight!
      I feel a lot of times people will try everything they can to justify why whatever razor they have is the best. As someone who currently owns *all 3* , I can tell you they all three shave great you'd be happy with any of them but the plate changing is *very cumbersome* compared to the Dial! I prefer The Konsul lightly ever-so-slightly over the Fatboy but it doesn't have the history which to me makes the fat boy tied for number-one and even more beautiful *refinished in rhodium*..The 6s it's a great shaver too, I just don't use it the way I'd like to for a 3 pass shave! These are three of the best razors you'll find though and if I had to do my top for I certainly add in the Wonderful Merkur 38Chrome Slant! I reach for it that slant more than any

  • @GenXAccord

    I've found the gap depends on the sharpness of the blade. The first time I tried the Konsul I had a Feather in it and set it to a 4. Razor burn and harsh. I then tried a Kai, Personna, Wilkinson, Parker and Rockwell blade on 2.5 and that was very good. The Kai is especially nice and razor burn free, the Parker is unimpressive at all. In reading about the Feather blades being best in the Feather ASD2, and reading about how small the blade gap is in that razor, I tried a Feather blade again in the Konsul but set it at no more than a 1. That made a big difference in how it shaved. If you use something as sharp as a Feather, dial it down to 1 and there's no need to go any higher on that gap.

    • @RazorEmporium

      Feather is slightly larger than other blades too.

    • @GenXAccord
      @GenXAccord ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RazorEmporium That explains a lot about why so many have trouble with it outside of using it in the ASD2. It's almost as if it's custom made for that razor and somewhat incompatible with others. It's ok in the Konsul but you have to dial the Konsul down to it's lowest settings. The Kai is much less troublesome and a much more comfortable shave.

    Konsul vs Sentry, isn't the Sentry similar to a 4 on the Konsul? I feel like my Envoy is at the max of aggression I want so I worry that the Sentry will be too aggressive out of the box. Using this video for context, even Matt llkes it at a 3 usually? I like the simplicity of a fixed razor but perhaps the Konsul is what I would need if I want to give a slant a shot.

      Yeah but the Konsul is not blade forward like the ambassador and envoy are. So it disguises its efficiency with a blade neutral feel

    6.5 just doesn't seem satisfying as the highest setting, so I'd like to propose a new word for the max setting on the Rex Adjustables. PISARCIX. It's higher than 6, and sounds more complete than 6.5. It's like the eleven of a 1-6 adjustable. You're at 6, where do you go from there? Why don't you make six a little higher? These go to Pisarcix.

    Just an opinion: #1. It's YOUR TH-cam Channel. #2. Some items shown are YOUR products. #3. Some items shown are YOUR EXCLUSIVE Products- it's not "Shilling" to advertise and or present your wares in this context and environment; even in a head to head comparison with an "Icon". Definitely, such is allowed. You are officially NOT a shill.. :D ;-)

    I tried DE shaving several times over many years and spent a fortune on different razors, blades, and accessories, but unfortunately, it’s not for me. I get a far closer, more comfortable, and quicker shave with a cartridge razor.

    • @GilaMonster971
      @GilaMonster971 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like your technique isn’t good using a DE.
      I get WAY better shaves from DE razors than cartridges. I don’t have to worry about the razor clogging up with hair, or nasty gel strips collecting hair. It also saves me a fortune. I spend about $5/year to shave my head and face.
      Something you are doing isn’t right if you prefer cartridges.
