    Our Mission
    Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
    Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
    The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
    Informing, Educating and Inspiring
    The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
    Martin Tyner
    Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
    At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
    “One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
    Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
    He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

    I was thinking that video was a little long, but I would try it out. I was wrong. It finished and I was like, no wait! I want more!! Never saw anything like it - Belle was amazing, you all got a good workout, wore me out just watching! And I learned a whole lot about this. No wonder its hard on the young birds at first. Hunting is not easy, and it like every important skill in life, takes time to develop the skills and strength to do it well. Thank you, Martin and Susan, for sharing such an exciting outing! More please!

      We used to think things were too long too, but we couldn't think of a good reason to edit either since people can skip ahead or skim through.

    • @darkangel7820
      @darkangel7820 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. You don't well we, those of us who don't do Falconry, we don't fully understand how hard it is for them. It's hard for Belle and she has HUGE advantage over the wild Hawks. Even though she's an invasive predator here. She couldn't go wild. A game warden would K1LL her soon as they saw her!!
      But then I have to remember Harris Hawks don't usually hunt alone. They hunt in groups and they all eat. But with Belle, she's not trying to hunt on the verge of starving. Litteraly. Some of the wild ones, especially first year babies, some have been hunting everyday and coming up with nothing getting weaker and weaker!!
      Them, IFFFF they are lucky, Martin gets the call to go get them or someone picks them up and calls the game warden or whomever to get it help because it's about to die!
      They have to use energy they don't have because odds are it's been a while since they've eaten!! To fly overhead looking and hunting. Like Martin said Belle has her human perch to carry her
      Plus the wild Hawks don't have anyone with a stick trumping through running them out of the thick bushes
      The rabbits well Hares, they are not really rabbits they're hidden in the thick bushes thinking they're safe, which IF they would stay put they are safe. But they don't know this. They hear noise coming at them trumping on the ground through the bushes. They have no clue there's a hawk anywhere close because they haven't seen her yet. She's still riding her human perch 😀
      Hare gets scared, it doesn't know what is coming at it through the bushes on the ground so it runs out trying to get somewhere else to hide. Then a hawk appears out of nowhere. It's gotten too far from the bush it was just in to go back. Maybe it ran away from it's hole, that gives Belle her advantage
      I LOVE Hawks and Eagles well all raptors but Hawks and especially Eagles have a special place 😀
      I found a video back a few years ago of Golden Eagles hunting. It was mesmerizing!! The photographer deserved to win the lottery with some of the footage he/she got!!
      It showed clear as day. A huge Golden Eagle looking like a big airplane with it's shadow, drop down from what seemed like nowhere on this baby mountain goat. The mother was uphill and came flying down but was too late! The eagle snatched the baby goat and pulled it off. You could hear it crying as the eagle flew a little ways and then dropped it and went into a full stoop after it. Amazing!! I LOVE watching them!!
      Too bad a $+UPID RETA®D WH0®€ messed it up where nobody can now film Scout. He won't allow anyone else but Martin near him. Even Susan has to stay away from him!! I would love to see him hunting but being nobody wants to be attacked by him I guess we never will lol can't blame them

    Would you get the same sense of gratification hawking with belle IF she was perched perhaps on a wide rimmed sunhat for your healths sake & Belle having the advantage of being perched at least 1-2 feet higher, than your current lower than shoulder level? I say this because it is so obvious that she loves being free to hawk with you by her side. She would be honing her hunting skills in no time & stocking up the freezer whilst having one on one fun time with her favourite guy. I also need to say that you guys are only as old as you feel. I know of some kids that don't have the energy that you have Martin. No put downs to anyone at all but being a tad more mature & caring for wild birds that you guys do is a dream job for some & a blessing to the birds that you have cared for. I love how you interact with the birds. It proves that love is definitely a universal language & holds no bounds as the birds respond to you just from your tone of voice & your aura. Awesome guys!

    Will Belle get to the point where she is strong enough to soar and watch for rabbits from up high, like Scout does?

    • @bloeckmoep
      @bloeckmoep 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julie Stevens: As far as I know Harris Hawks do not reach the same altitudes than golden eagles but yes belle will also be able to fly rather high in the sky. Then dive down onto her prey. For the exact altitudes of specific birds, Martin is your source to ask! 👍👍👍

      @@bloeckmoep Thank you for replying so quickly! I was pretty sure if she did hunt by soaring, she would not be up among the golden eagles. :o)

      Hi Julie, soaring is more about staying cool and recreating to Hawks and Eagles. Both generally hunt from perched on tree or power pole. Falcons are more likely to hunt from altitudes.

    Do you withhold food on hunting days?

    • @GowildlifeOrg

      It's more complex than food or not food. It's about ongoing training and weight management.

    Why does Belle have bells on her legs?

  • @andyfila5328
    @andyfila5328 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the bell on her foot is alerting the rabbits.

  • @MezztovenShort4DannY
    @MezztovenShort4DannY 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That bell is going to alert the rabbits. To noticeable as far as hearing

    • @GowildlifeOrg
      @GowildlifeOrg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rabbits don't perceive the sound of her bell as any threat. There are plenty of other hawk sounds that alert them of her approach.

    I'm curious, Belle has immature plumage with a haggard tail. Can you comment on that? OSH :-)
