    Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
    Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
    Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
    Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Hi again! So happy to see you and Belle Martin. And hi Susan too! I've so been looking forward to the next step in her training. Just wonderful to see how great she's doing. Such wise words Martin about your approach/training. I smile as you basically stated the same methods/ways in training my horses dogs and yes children. Laying a solid good foundation with patience care and love and giving things time to absorb and figure it all out to be able to use all those teachings hopefully in a positive productive way. Always about a good foundation! You do such an awesome job with birds no less! It truly is no wonder what your life's mission has been. This vid is such the perfect example of all what you do. Thank you so much for the update and yes I could hardly wait. Having a bit of a bumpy recovery still but I'm oh so determined and this episode has absolutely helped to make today a happy one! Hope all is good with you folks. Til next time when we see Belle fly free...

Before you DISLIKE this video you should understand:
    1. This man is bringing awareness about the importance of wildlife.
    2. North America has lost about 30% of its birds since 1970.
    3. 3 billions birds lost since 1970.
You have the right to dislike the captivity of wildlife etc. However, try to be open minded about the bigger picture. You may believe "we should let wildlife be wild and stop interfering with nature". That's just the case, our very presence as a human race interferes with the laws of nature, causing a great disturbance to wildlife. We have to live together due to many human factors.
I would urge anyone disliking this video to state their reason, their thought process, how they reached this conclusion. It's only fair that you provide some information, maybe it will be informative to everyone.

I donated via Facebook because I appreciate what you do for the sport and how you raise awareness for raptor wildlife. Thank you. I do have a question as an apprentice: what practical steps can you follow in that first 24 to 48 to maximize success? I hear variations of how to spend that time but would love to know your steps. I feel your approach is has the animal in mind as opposed to others that promote a baptism of fire in the human ecosystem until they collapse. Ps not sure your active on Facebook but a friend request decline is better than and ignore. Thanks!

Your method makes a lot of sense. Rather than having them trained primarily to the whistle/glove/food it's more about the whistle and wherever the tidbit may be that you're offering. Attracting them primarily to the whistle is smart because when you do use in combination with the visual of the lure you can get their attention more readily, from a greater distance and it also triggers pursuit instinct. As long as you train until there isn't any hesitation coming to the glove or the lure with the use of the whistle and food then they should be ready for free flight. Have you ever tried to train different behaviors with specific numbers of whistle bursts or would that confuse them? They seem smart enough that one would think it could be done.

So that tailwagging is kinda like them saying that they're really enjoying themselves, kinda like cats when they got their tails straight up in the air like flagpoles? Must be really heartbreaking when a hawk you've had for 30 years dies. I had a cat once for 9 years, and we held a funeral for him. I wrote a eulogy. 4 showed up.
