I’ve been doing my own “scientific experiment” for several years. Whenever I’m in public, I keep a smile on my face and observe how many strangers I can “infect” with smiling. It’s fun to think that just by smiling at people in different ways ( kindly, conspiratorially, sympathetically) that I can help them have a better day. In a world where many folk feel invisible and unappreciated, I think a simple smile from a stranger can help them feel like they’re not. Also, I’m a little old lady, so I can get away with it😊
I stopped doing impulse buying because I'm up there in age, and want to declutter. I've been up out of my chair a few times listening to you, to get something to put in my declutter bag for Friday. I feel so free and good when I go to a hotel, and all that's there is what I absolutely NEED. I have a lot of craft items, so I've been gradually cleaning thing out of that room over the last few months, as it doesn't feel as bad as if I took half the room and donated it. And yes, listening is a wonderful thing. I once was complimented on my looks/clothes one day many years ago, made me feel so good all day, so after thinking about it many times I decided to make it a point to compliment others whenever I noticed something nice about their looks (or their actions - especially children)! Extra thumbs up for this video Mel! Loved it.🦉
I have two little dogs who 'demand' a walk every morning. I call them 'my fitness instructors' because, regardless how I felt before we started, I always feel better after the time outside.
Mel, I'm only halfway through & NEED to comment.... 'stop talking' I use the acronym: W.A.I.T. = Why Am I Talking. You are so right about listen to learn. I talk about what I already know, I need to know what someone else knows. Okay, back to the episode now -- many thanks for what you do! 🥰
I like that idea but I find Mel does too much talking herself sometimes especially when interviewing guests...Sometimes I feel like screaming at her to please let this Awesome guest finish his/her sentence! It is so annoying but has taught ME to stop talking and just LISTEN! It is so very important. Communication is a two-way street!! 😊🙏🎉🎉

Your grandma's saying about believing in yourself is so powerful. It encapsulates the idea that our mindset directly influences our actions and outcomes and if you believe you can achieve something, you're much more likely to take steps toward it.
Mel, I've only been listening to your podcast for two weeks now (but ive watched probably too many videos already) and I just have to say you are one the most beautiful people ive seen, inside and out. Thank you for sharing everything with us. From the 6am glory picture to all the knowledge you bless us with. And if no ones told you today. I love you and i am so proud of you! Keep being a bad ass!
As a teacher, I learned that a loud voice is ineffective. When I wanted attention from students, I lowered my voice and spoke deliberately and calmly. When you mentioned lowering your voice, I had to smile.
Yes, passive-aggression. It''s a psychosocial/psychological technique to manipulate an audience. It does not and will not always work, but it can be quite effective with people who actually care/want to hear what you have to say; or of course have no choice. 🤍
Smiling is my superpower! I am always astounded that more people don’t do it on a regular basis. It is free and simple and helps yourself and others around you. Kids smile so much - I am almost 65 but smile and laugh as often as possible!

Thank you Mel for your tips. My son and family moved to an area where many of the residents don't speak English. I started just eye contact and smiling when I was walking, in the elevator etc. A smile is a universal positive sign .
Since decluttering and reorganizing my items in a more calming and pretty way I love putting my items back where they belong, I love what I have and love the sight of what I see when I open a closet or drawer. That really makes this rule of putting things back easy. And no more frustration of the search for…. No more stress about my stuff and not to forget making cleaning easy.
Mel, you truly are special. When I need to listen to an intelligent person (who does her research) to lift myself up to another level, I click onto your pod casts. Thank you. You just seem real.
Listening to you has helped me get through a very rough time. I was 18 years old I survived s carbon monoxide accident. There was four of us two died. Two lived. The driver just passed 2019. I am the last one alive I feel so alone. That was so disabling. Your comments have helped immeasurably. Thank you.
I just read yesterday's email, I'm currently unemployed by choice due to my mental health and I'm currently looking for a new chartered accountant role. Having someone tell me they believe in me is exactly what I needed, thanks Mel!
Listening to this in bed way too early during a heavy rain event. Mel has a way of breaking things down into practical gems of inspiration and information that better our lives, and are accessible to us all, no matter what our circumstances or age. Thanks so much for this ‘wake up call’ to improve my waking, living, and sleeping life! 😊
Mel - I am never disappointed with any of your podcast. I have a huge smile on my face and 9 new lessons under my belt. I’ll make it 10, as I learned the 10th while scrolling the comments. Not only will I be silent, but if I forget I’ll use “wait” why am I talking. ❤ thank you for all that you do for the world.
For shifting deeply held beliefs about what you can't do, I recommend "If" firmations. Say "what if". What if I could love my body. What if I can develop a better relationship with food. What if I can become more organized. The more core something has become to your identity the harder it is to overcome directly, but while your brain may identify something as being false in the present it's much harder for it to deny all possible futures in which the opposite may become true. So "what if" plants a seed, and if you water it with small actions in that direction, eventually you do start to believe you have it in you.
I agree with all, but the one that hit home with me is taking a walk. I recently lost a dear friend because I responded angrily to her text, which offended me. Had I taken a walk, or waited a few minutes or hours to respond, I would have responded differently, and, I believe, we would still be talking today. I miss her immensely, and I have learned a huge lesson. Texting is terrible for communicating anything other than quick answers to meaningless questions, such as what time is dinner? Wait before responding to texts that you don't understand or that you find offensive. Phone calls or face-to-face communication is always best. Period.
I’m thankful for this podcast I have been so depressed lately that I’m just starting to get over this feeling but I’m having a hard time. I’m going to try to do this nine steps. God help me 🙏
Just a tie bit. Putting things back where they go also, saves time and memory space. You won’t have to spend hours trying to find something that you can’t remember where you put it 😁
Today's episode found me in tears. I just got into a comment war with another TH-camr who made a video about finances that grossly oversimplified finance. When I pointed out that there were exceptions to what she was saying, she replied to my comment and told me to watch the video again -- but do it real slowly. I've never been so angry in my life!! I unsubscribed from her (According to Nicole), but I still don't feel better. She represents everything that is wrong in life. And over 600 people in her comment section were cheering her on and asking for more! I can't wrap my head around that. That feeling that prople suck is trying to hijack my heart and it is a real struggle to fight it. 😞 Your podcast is helping me refocus my feelings and perspective and re-ground myself. Thank you 🙏
It sounds like you need to stay off the internet. If you find online comments about finance so upsetting it would probably be better not to participate in comment sections in general

Good stuff Mel! Regarding putting things back where they belong: It's important to point out how you had the awareness to notice the "New You" was exercising the person you want to become, as you also noticed what the "Old You" would have done. This type of awareness and meta- consciousness, repeated over and over is what leads to rapid growth.
Wow. Thank you. Re clutter. So difficult at times with young children around. All time is precious. If you really haven’t got time to keep taking things out from one room to another. My children were always bringing things into the kitchen and leaving them. Have a box and just shove everything in it until you have the time to put the things away. I noticed an enormous change when the children got older Especially when living on my own. Less clutter in the head, Helped me to keep on top of clutter around the house 😀. Happy mind. Happy home 🌈💜
What? First time here on this podcast. I hear “if you want to get 8h sleep, spend 9h in bed” and that’s exactly what happened! I woke up refreshed having spent exactly 9h in bed and my Garmin watch showing “body battery 100%, sleep 8h11, quality: good”. Wow! Is it that simple! I have to thank you for that! Even if it was only one time, it was worth listening to it!!! I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the talk 😅
Thank you Mel for a really helpful blog!🤗Number 9 reminded me of something my mum used to say "Smile and the whole world will smile with you. Cry and you will cry alone." It's the first blog of yours I have seen but it certainly wont be the last😊. Looking forward to the next one! Caroline
Some people CAN but Won’t ….. I want to offer insight on #1 ….. if it some you really want and ( willing to put in the work ) you will find a way. If it something you don’t … you will find an excuse.
The school bus comes before the sun is up so I can't get daylight first thing. But I sit on my east-facing porch swing and drink my coffee as it rises. I usually have a good half hour for that before I have to go in and get to work and I think it's made a difference.
Mel, thank you for the tip about spending 9 hours in bed if you want 8 hours of sleep-actually, that’s exactly what I’m doing, and how I’ve set up my alarm clock. I set it 30 minutes before going to sleep as a signal for my night routine, and then I spend 9 hours in bed. I used to feel guilty for sleeping too long, but now I know this is exactly what I should be doing, especially since falling asleep always takes me some time. Thanks a lot! Ewa
Mel, you have a way to explain things that are easily understood and without complications or doubts, little hacks that can make a huge transformation ... Thank you so much for this video, it has touch a few eye opening moments for myself... 🙏🙏🙏 God bless you and your family always !
I am stunned at the number of benefits of walking. I have been out of the habit, then walked 2 mornings in a row, alone. For me, just 20 minutes of walking alone in the morning sets me up for a great day. And I'm going to try your sleep suggestion.
You always put a smile on my face 😊 I do have a hard time looking someone in the eye when I'm talking and I don't know why but I will try to see their eye color next time, thanks! ❤
1. The children's book ( The Little Train That Could ) "I think i can, I think I can," Constantly runs through my head. I highly suggest anyone who has not read to do so. 😁 😊
I'm 70. As kids we would ask where is my doll or socks or whatever... Dad would say " the last time I used it, I put it back where it belonged". I say that to my grandkids, too when they are playing with their toys or looking for their shoes. They think it's hilarious visualizing me wearing their shoes but gets to the point of if they had put their stuff back, that's where it will be.
The notion of a flawless marriage or relationship is a myth. There's no set formula for success; what works for one couple may not work for another. Yet, I've discovered that there's always a way forward, even in the most challenging times. Five years ago, my wife and I encountered significant hurdles in our marriage that nearly led to divorce. Despite the adversity, we managed to weather the storm and emerge from it with our bond renewed and revitalised
There is a lot of sense in what you just said and I hope mine works the same way too, we are currently separated but I cant live without her, I love her so much. wish I can get her back I can do anything to have her back, we have tried therapy amongst other things.
Its always difficult to let someone you love go, but in my case I had the help of a spiritual adviser who saved my marriage from collapsing her name is shelly renee white
@@johnwellss I have observed throughout my life that when couples or even ONE partner applies Bible principals, marriage improves dramatically. So there is a written, readily available guidance on how to have a happy family life. Not perfect, but a dramatic improvement. Throughout the ages, different cultures, economic status’, or social status, it works and is foolproof in itself.
Thank you, Mel and team! What a terrific way to share these helpful changes that will impact our lives. You have a special talent of researching the information and sharing it in such an easy and doable way in order to apply to our lives. Most of all thank you for being so real and genuine. Most of the larger purchases I make are either limited edition products or sample sales that last a few days. If I waited a week, it would literally not exist anymore. Now for normal purchases, waiting a week is a great idea.
When I was in FL I used to walk 20 miles a day even after my second car accident. When I used to live in north central on and off for 20 years before 2013, I used to take several walks daily. I just need a safe place to walk.
I really love your videos, Mel. ❤ They really do resonate on a whole other level, and I feel like I grow as a person just learning from your wise words. Thank you. Xx
The sunlight first thing sounds great. But what about winter? I get up at 6am when it's still dark and doesn't get light until 8am by which time I'm already back indoors at work and can't just go outside for 5mins
The sleep part that I changed for 2 months in my life affected me very well. Actually, I was feeling anxious at night times and with this new habit it is completely gone. I can make plans again I can do that plans at right time. Somehow the revised sleep circle improved my mentality and my works. But the action phase is not ready for me. Yes I'm willing to do sth but I feel I'm not ready by mentally and financially. So I have to wait for an uncertain time...

Our prophet told us that we get rewarded for smiling to others, it' considered as a good deed and an act of charity. It's soo easy but still many don't do it. In fact, some look surprised when you smile at them
Wait a week.. perfect ❤ also put away a hair brush from my office and went to the bathroom and saw my kid left out her tooth brush and mouthwash so put that away too... gotta teach her this step!
You are wonderful Mel. It is interesting how much our grandparents and earlier generations knew about human behaviour , as evidenced by the sayings they passed down. The science wasn’t as sophisticated at that time. And yet they just knew…
One comment on going out into sunlight first thing in the morning: The essential sun's rays will not penetrative glass. So, if you sit by a window, it must be open. Anyway, thanks for a great video. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for another great video! There’s one thing though about the UV rays. I’ve read the reason getting the sunlight during the day helps to reset your circadian rhythm is vitamin D, and research says unless you get direct sunlight you don’t get any vitamin D. You said if you can’t go out sit by the window, but I believe if that’s the case then you have to open the window and expose your skin to direct sunlight.
Mel, can you please ask one of your relevant guests, about shift workers… I work permanent nights 6-8 a fortnight from 2245-0715hrs … how does all this fit into a shift workers lifestyle? Or do I just go for achieving this on the 6-8 days off I get in the fortnightly roster? TIA xx
Just subscribed - I think I'm going to find your channel VERY helpful - thank you. I also want to say that your comment #5 I have already found to be so important and so true and I'm going to be much stronger so as to follow this advice since it has already gotten me in alot of trouble with some close friends!!! Thank you for this channel!!!
Buy a sunlamp for the morning's daylight. I'm in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and it's the end of September so me getting up at 4am and natural daylight is only at 6h15am...means I have to wait way too long to be outside with my coffee soaking up sun rays.
Most of these seem achievable or I already do it. Getting sunlight is problematic as we don't have a dark home & live in northern US. But agree that it's so important, that I will figure something out!
I almost always fall asleep within 10 minutes. I can count on my fingers the number of times per year I have a problem falling asleep within. These days I tape my mouth shut so I breathe through my nose: then I practice Butenkyo breathing.

Wow. Thank you.
Some people don't know how to get out of their own way. Blaming and shaming doesn't help.
That's the same saying in the Philippines. If you want to, you will find a way. If you don't want to, you'll find an excuse.
Wait a week!!! Perfect.
I end up with multiples, due to my impulse purchase and clutter.
Thank you!
The school bus comes before the sun is up so I can't get daylight first thing. But I sit on my east-facing porch swing and drink my coffee as it rises. I usually have a good half hour for that before I have to go in and get to work and I think it's made a difference.
Sounds divine. I too love my porch swing. Your comment is inspiring me for tomorrow. Thanks.
My mom used to tell us" go run around the block". We lived on 10 acres but she made her point.
I love "stop talking" and "put things back where they belong". I've got ADHD so these spoke to me 😂
You always put a smile on my face 😊 I do have a hard time looking someone in the eye when I'm talking and I don't know why but I will try to see their eye color next time, thanks! ❤
1. The children's book ( The Little Train That Could )
"I think i can, I think I can,"
Constantly runs through my head.
This is helpful, I will look her up online right now...Thanks
You wont regret it
@@johnwellss I have observed throughout my life that when couples or even ONE partner applies Bible principals, marriage improves dramatically. So there is a written, readily available guidance on how to have a happy family life. Not perfect, but a dramatic improvement. Throughout the ages, different cultures, economic status’, or social status, it works and is foolproof in itself.
Mel, thank you for this episode, I hope it helps me and many many people here. So wish you well, send you love from Ukraine❤
Love to Ukraine 💙 💛
Great video! My favorite for me is to “stop talking”!
Thank you, Mel and team! What a terrific way to share these helpful changes that will impact our lives. You have a special talent of researching the information and sharing it in such an easy and doable way in order to apply to our lives. Most of all thank you for being so real and genuine. You are my hero.
Thank you Mel because for once I can truly understand the concepts. You have a phenomenal way to brake things down, relatable and meaningful.
I have been listening to your podcast while working and let me tell you I’m more productive 😊😅
Regarding "stop talking" - the main reason for me is that sometimes people just need to be heard :)
Most of the larger purchases I make are either limited edition products or sample sales that last a few days. If I waited a week, it would literally not exist anymore. Now for normal purchases, waiting a week is a great idea.
Thanks!
When I was in FL I used to walk 20 miles a day even after my second car accident. When I used to live in north central on and off for 20 years before 2013, I used to take several walks daily. I just need a safe place to walk.
I really love your videos, Mel. ❤
They really do resonate on a whole other level, and I feel like I grow as a person just learning from your wise words. Thank you. Xx
I love Mel, one of the greatest mentors of all time ❤
Thank you for the reminder “Stop Talking”! ❤❤❤
The sunlight first thing sounds great. But what about winter? I get up at 6am when it's still dark and doesn't get light until 8am by which time I'm already back indoors at work and can't just go outside for 5mins
Same
The sleep part that I changed for 2 months in my life affected me very well.
I love all your podcasts. I've learned so much listening to you. Mel, this one was a great one !!
I was not looking for anything. Your channel popped up with something that interest me. So I watched and listened to it. I felt a wash of mine peakness accrue. Really good advice, especially the sleeping early change , Thank you Mel x
I could listen to Mel all day !!
I'm the best at learning, gaining the knowledge....Practicing and applying info is where I falter. Baby Steps...Thank You Mel 🎉
Lack of action because of fear of failure, success, or judgment?
My friend Mel.... thanks I was already realizing some of these things and your enthusiasm helps my recovery so much thanks
My god you are a treat to listen to...my ...the amount of research and eloquence that you exhibit is mind-blowing....proud of you girl
I listen to your podcasts and look forward to them daily. I am so grateful for all that you do!!!
Thank you Mel. Your words are changing Lives.
Tanks Mel, you are the best! A big hug of Brazil!❤️🇧🇷
I don't mind the "put things where they belong rule" but the entire family should be supporting you in that. It shouldn't be on just you.
Ahh! Your work and wisdom is only getting better. Thanks.❤
Thanks for your efforts ,from ETHIOPIA,EAST AFRICA.
I am so grateful for you and your content. Thank you for being you :)
Most of these seem achievable or I already do it. Getting sunlight is problematic as we don't have a dark home & live in northern US. But agree that it's so important, that I will figure something out!
Thank you, Mel. Wonderful episode, right to the point, and so easy to understand 🙂
This conversation was soooo awesome!!!
this video’s take really clicks with some of the things I've been reading in ebook magnetic aura from Borlest
Thank You. Going to do these things for a week and see the changes then another week and another etc.

Greatest tip ever...never thought of it...thank you, I will immediately start with it and see what will happen...thank you and greetings from Germany
... the tip not to talk...I mean...
Thank you for the easy to grasp tips Mel.❤
I almost always fall asleep within 10 minutes. I can count on my fingers the number of times per year I have a problem falling asleep within. These days I tape my mouth shut so I breathe through my nose: then I practice Butenkyo breathing.
I love you to Mel and I am proud of you
Thanks Mel, Namaste 🙏
I truly enjoy your podcasts they are long and informative yet upbeat and fun
Thank you
These 9 small things you talked about today made me very happy! Thank you!

I left number 5 for my little 93% “chocolate walk” because I committed to eating less sugar. Thanks Mel! BRB
Thank you dear Mell !!! Love all the 9 ❤
