The voice behind Edna is so good I couldn’t even tell it was a man.
It always had me questioning how does Brad Bird do it?
You mean Brad Bird?
you know Edna was voice by Brad Bird the director of the film!
I always suspected but for some dumb reason I never actually looked her actor up
No capes!
**Female voice actors talking like a young boy**
Everyone: Wait. It was female voice actor!?
**Male voice actors talking like an old lady**
Everyone: *Yeah, that’s definitely a dude’s voice.*
Haha!! Great word meme dude! That was SO Raven!!
lmao right. These days I just assume every young male anime character is voiced by a female because that's the case 99% of the time
Ladies tend to have a wee bit more vocal range, which is why it’s usually surprising to hear a boy character being voiced by a woman
🤣 faxxx
Nah cuz there's this one char that I legit couldn't tell if he was a boy or girl at first
I was thinking "who could possibly beat Edna Mode?" As soon as I saw Ms Piggy, I conceded lol
I like her bangs!

I did not know miss piggy was voiced by a man ngl.
Nice pfp
Ya know, Technically, Miss Piggy is not a cartoon
17:24 I love the fabulousness of Edna Mode. Brad Bird played her to PERFECTION.
Edna is hilarious, noisy and a little crazy, but still hilarious
Robots (2005) is CRIMINALLY underrated.
The late greats Mel Brooks and Robin Williams are in it, as well as Ewan McGregor and Amanda Bynes
@@jasminejohnston6393 I feel like there were other more iconoc actors over Amanda Bynes to mention 😅😅
I've seen it in German, when I was little. I was in Europe. Also, I thought the robot was a male.
@@jasminejohnston6393 halle Barry too
Some of these voice actors can make themselves sounds SO convincing as female characters, you can’t tell the difference.
I say Edna of The Incredibles and Ms. Crawly of Sing are the top female characters voiced by dudes.
I like her bangs!
I always loved how even though the voice actors were voicing female characters you could still tell that they were being voiced by men, and a lot of the voices of these characters are absolutely iconic!
No
ehh sometimes
Especially Edna
LCDLF Wendy Guevera Voiced By Men
@@rodriguezrubiokarolguadalu288 I'm aware of that, I know just as a lot female characters are voiced by men, There are many male characters voiced by women VA's.
I always love it when female characters get voiced by a male, I feel like it gives them more emotion/depth and makes the characters even more interesting. Especially with girly characters like Tina despite her deep voice is still an iconic empowering woman.
You completely missed the most obvious and hilarious voices of Regis Philbin and Larry King as the wicked step-sisters in "Shrek"...
Glad that Edna Mode is voiced by the legendary deep-voiced French camp pop icon Amanda Lear in the Italian and French versions of the films.
I like her bangs!
Welker has a ton of voices under his belt, including Scooby-Doo, but finding the voice of one of the most badass Decepticons ever made also voiced a Muppet Baby is hilarious
That's why he's the GOAT!
Also he was Totoro!
SONIA WAS VOICED BY A DUDE!?!? All this time I had no idea!! 😲
Urkell strikes again...
As honorable mentions, Fred Armisen as the Queen, “Final Space” (2018-2021), Hugo Harold-Harrison as Lucy Simian, “The Amazing World of Gumball” (2011-2019), and the late Larry King as the Ugly Stepsister, the “Shrek” franchise.
Goldy Delicious from MLP: FIM and Miss Crawly from Sing.
And Regis Philben as the other Ugly Stepsister
Candy from Space Goofs is actually a femboy (and shares the same voice as Cow and Mrs. Bighead) but in the Spanish dub he was changed to completely female so he technically counts depending on what your headcanon is
@@t-nbell7013 and Smidge from Dreamworks Trolls.
Jonathan Ross voiced the Ugly Stepsister in the UK dubs of Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third
12:03 Update alert: that's SCPOMICE-VDADOCREM Mike Wazowski. "SCPOMICE-VDADOCREM" stands for "Senior Co-President of Monsters, Incorporated and Chief Executive Vice-Deputy Administrative Director of Comedy Resources Management," a title Mike created for himself.
You forgot Ms. Crawly the Lizard lady from Sing. I only knew until recently that she was voiced by the Writer/Director of the movies himself!
Wow really?
Candace on Phineas and Ferb was voiced by Dan Povenmire when she was having an allergic reaction. He even did one of her songs.
That doesn’t count.
Same goes with flutter guy from MLP
Tina originally was to be Daniel. They made a smart decision having him be a her but still with the same voice actor and personality
I had a feeling of video like this would have happened someday. Now do just the opposite. This is actually interesting.
Spoiler, the voice of Bart Simpson will be number one.
@@mcclintocksherman1 and Timmy Turner, Ben 10,
It's more common for women to voice boys, so a list wouldn't be as unique
Except male kids voiced by females. That is too common
Don’t forget Ash
Here’s one you missed: Ms Lucy Simian (The Amazing World of Gumball)
so true
Oh yeah you're right!
15. On a side note, all the Hedgehog's singing voices were done by different actors. Sonic's for instance was the voice of Double D. And I'm not gonna lie, its kinda funny to imagine Double D singing these.
Linda from "bob's burger" is AMAZING💜💜💜👍
When Bob's Burgers first came out I never did watched until my brother told me about it. I was surprised when he told me Tina was played by a guy.
But oh boy I was even more surprised the movie came out and I found out Linda was voiced by a guy as well
FENDER: We, sir-
GASKET: I’m a woman.
CRANK: Ouch.
Gasket: I’m a woman.
Me: You are a woman, but in the inside you are a man (Voice actor)
I was surprised for D.W. because I thought it was voided by a girl! However, she is voiced by a boy!
Right, judging by the title, prepubescent boys do not count.
I'll never understand why people make such a big deal over who plays animated characters, they don't need to match literally every aspect of the character they're playing, they just need to do a good job of playing their character(s)
Cuz they have 1st world privilege and have nothing better to argue about. Loke actual Racism,Homophobia and Sexism
imo it's only ever really mattered when a character focuses on issues or experiences specific to a certain group or culture, but that's more a case of it being beneficial for an authentic performance rather than because it's a steadfast rule. E.g. they changed Missy's voice actress in Big Mouth because the character was exploring her identity and race. Nobody had a problem with Jenny voicing her, but when she stepped down and Ayo Edibiri took over they felt they could explore that side of the character with greater insight and an additional perspective.
9 times out of 10 though it really doesn't matter and one of the joys of voiceover is that anybody can have a chance to play a wide range of characters.
What about Miss Lucy Simian from The Amazing World of GumBall? She was originally voiced by Lewis MacLead in Season One. Harold-Harrison started to voice her since Season 2
Wait She also voicing by male voice actor?
Looking back at my childhood, I had no idea these characters were voiced by actors we didn’t know
Ed asner is one of the best voice actors in cartoon history
I think Miss Piggy is of French descent. That's why she says "moi" instead of "me" a lot of the time.
I always thought it was because she's a bit pretentious.
I'm really shocked about it. That some of the men voice actors can voiced female characters. Also I really love Bob's Burgers, The Incredibles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Family Guy, Sonic, Robots, South Park, Monsters Inc, Adventure Time and The Muppets
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was gonna be animated characters that look similar to each other
I think there’s two divas on this list Lola and Miss Piggy. Makes sense to me
Am told that once upon a time John Kassir (Raymundo; Crypt keeper, many others) covered for Marge Simpson while Julie Kavner was under the weather. The amazing range of that guy!
I think Edna Mode should’ve been the number one pick cause she’s obviously the best out of all of the characters on this list ✨
Edna is such an awesome character, but Miss Piggy is iconic.
Female characters voiced by men is WAY more noticable than male characters voiced by woman IMO 🤔
I mean that's true lol XD
I honestly had no idea that DW was voiced my a male voice actor!! My respect level for voice acting has soared even more!
Neither have I!
"We, sir-"
*"I'm a woman"*
"Ouch."
Some of the best lines in robots XD
My boss is a huge fan of bobs burgers, yet she had no idea Linda, Tina, or any of the other women/girls voiced by men were voiced by men
To this day I keep forgetting Linda is voiced by a man. Honestly the casting for that show is so great in general, that one just keeps catching me off guard.
@@AllyGatorAnimator its really easy to forget Linda is voiced by a man, he’s just that good
I love Edna Mode! She makes me laugh! LOL.
Consuela too? Noo . That scene with Ms. Chokesondik and Mr. McKay is always hilarious.
If you do a list of Male characters voiced by Women then Bart Simpson has to the #1.
Nancy Cartwright does his voice and 6 others on the Simpsons.
Voices blend in and others, are easy to catch. Just like Lola from Big Mouth
Well.... my childhood nostalgia has changed some aspects that i remembered
I always thought Edna was voiced by Mindy Sterling, that’s wild
Cow and Chicken is basically Charlie Adler's multiple personalities going berserk.
Hard to name a franchise that didn't involve Charlie Adler at some point.
I think the only one that surprised me was Cow.
Just goes to show how talented voice actors are!
I honestly thought Linda Hunt voiced Edna Mode!!! At least they look similar and that’s probably where I got my wires crossed
I saw the title and immediately thought "oh, Bart Simpson for sure!" Apparently I just straight forgot how gender works.
Skeeter is adorable! She’s probably the cutest thing I’ve seen! She’s also my favorite number: Seventeen!
Okay, I’ve only seen a few episodes of Adventure Time, and I had no idea Lumpy was a woman! Lots of stuff to learn every day!
Yes Lumpy space Princess, she is always hitting on some guy.
Lumpy space *princess*
Ed Asner as Granny Goodness in Superman: TAS, Justice League/Unlimited are my favorite during the 90s to 2000s. He was so convincing in the role.
He what?! Ed Asner voiced that character in the DCU universe? You have got to be kidding me
14:06 "Grenda, by the way, you sound like a professional wrestler."
But she can act like one too!
Edna Mode was ALMOST voiced by a woman. Brad Bird originally wanted Lily Tomlin, the voice of Ms Frizzle from the original Magic School Bus, to voice her but he ended up voicing her himself instead!
I'm trying to do some female voices myself. When I found out voicing different genders was a thing, I was shocked, but later on, I wanted to try it too. I hope to achieve doing genuine female voices instead of voicing a female character with a manly voice, because to me that doesn't count. Wish me luck.
Sonia was the only one that would have definitely tricked me. Her (referring the Sonia) voice is the second highest here but actually sounds natural and comfortable. Ms Piggies voice might be higher but it sounds she was given that accent to make it easier for the actor to speak at that pitch.
I didn't know that E from The Incredibles franchise was a woman, I thought she was a guy because of her voice, I also thought that the villain from Robots was voiced by a female.
Yep Edna Mode is a woman. Brad Bird originally wanted the voice of Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus Lily Tomlin to voice her but he ended up voicing her himself instead!
I am glad Sonia was mentioned. She was and still is one of my favorite Sonic characters. Many have Sally, I got Sonia
That wasn't the only time White used a high pitch for his characters. There's the one that made him a household name, Steve Urkel.
@@JamesDavy2009 I never knew that. That's pretty cool.
@@Zekken_The_Lodestar You'll see what I mean if you look up _Family Matters._
Frankie Foster Voice Actor Cheech Marin
Madame Foster Voice Actor Seth MacFarlane
Crossdressing voices don’t have to be limited to women as little girls. Just ask the Muppets.
I can’t unsee the resemblance between Edna and Tina
I think Jocelyn in “Bob’s Burgers”, who is also voiced by John Roberts, should’ve been on this list!
About including Miss Piggy...
The same goes for Janice... especially in _Muppet Babies_ (although at first she was performed by a female).
I was shocked when I learned that not only was Edna Mode voiced by a woman, but the director himself, Brad Bird. He had me fooled for years!
I've never seen Granny Goodness before but I'd recognize Ed Asner's iconic voice anywhere, and just before you said his name I said "sounds like Lou Grant" (His character from the Mary Tyler Moore Show)
I've known that DW from Arthur was voiced by a guy for a long time now, like since I was 9 so almost 12 years now.
cool
I just started watching Big Mouth. I can see why Lola is voiced by him
I would mention Czech voice of Marge Simpson, even creators of Simpsons were surprised, that man is voicing her and it was a pleseant surprise, because czech voicing of simpsons is one of the best in the world, which is admited even by Matt Groening and others.
I never understood the Jackie Kenedy had a really deep voice thing. she just sounds really husky an womanly to me.
I’ve never seen Arthur but if I did and not know the fact, as a kid, my head would blow up just like the characters in Big Mouth
I had no idea Ms. Piggy was voiced by a man, also Tina is awesome.
I wasn’t surprised when I heard Tina’s voice in The Bob’s Burgers Movie and three episodes I saw at Las Vegas, awhile ago
i always thought that Linda Hunt was the voice actor for Edna in the Incredibles since both share a resemblance. i just thought she altered her voice.
i've thought of trying to get into voice acting but i didn't know where to start. my shyness and the fear of putting myself out there also stands in my way. i have always been good at doing voices and if i had made a career out of it i would've probably been great at it. i used to play tricks on people i know over the phone and they couldn't even tell it was me most of the time. maybe in some other universe i took that step and made something of myself
Damn dude. you should try your talent out in the world. Maybe try doing some fanmade projects?
Next you should do top 20 male characters voiced by women
I get that Edna Mode is based on Edith Head, in fact, I knew that as soon I saw her in the movie, but she looks more like Linda Hunt.
Nick Kroll did a very nice job voicing Lola from 'Big Mouth.'
I can't wait until the 6th season comes out on Netflix.
Mike Henry did such a good job as Consuela, I had no idea she was voiced by a man until now
6:05 - OMG the way she announced it so nonchalantly without realizing
I can't 💀💀💀😭🤣🤣
FYI, Jim Conroy voice every member of the Ruffman family on search for rough Ruffman. This includes the female members. Sorry, typo fetch with ruff Ruffman
Lmfao what’s next? Too 10 animals in movies that were voiced by real animals?
Brad Bird also voiced Emma Goldman in the audiobook version of "Assassination Vacation"!
This isn't a voice actor but the mom in Monty python's life of Brian should have been an honorable mention
"We're you surprised by any of these characters?"
Uhhh...no.
Can you do a Top 10 (or 20) of Male characters voiced by women ?
No 1 will be Bobby Hill
@@CoasterMan13Official Or Bart Simpson. Longest run ever.
@@alex1949 You could compile a Top 20 list. Two more of note are Monkey D. Luffy and Ash Ketchum.
I just thought of a theory about the Incredibles and Bob's Burgers: Edna is Tina in the future. If you look at the thumbnail of the video pictures of both are shown next to each other and they look almost exactly the same and they are both voiced by men (okay, the voices of men is a stretch but they are in fact almost identical to each other).
That's a very interesting theory, she must've be in some form of incident when she got older that made her shrink a bit
the incredibles take place in da 60s I believe
That's a great theory!
@@gorillakid9394 really I thought it took place in the 90’s or early 2000
@@Tylermiller778 ok it takes place in 1962
Ed Asner as Granny Goodness was an absolute insane thought until it actually happened
They cut out this for Madam Gasket
Fender: We Sir
Madam Gasket: I'm A Women
Crank: Ouch
Let's not forget that Sir Topham Hatt's mother was also voiced by a man in the CGI version of Thomas and Friends.
Just starting out, but if Dr. Mrs. The Monarch isn’t on this list, I’ll riot-
Consuela was so good. I honestly thought she was played by a female putting on a Ludacris accent
I knew about Madam Gasket, Roz (and Roze), Grenda, LSP, DW, and Edna Mode.
Let me guess,Lumpy space princess
Megatron himself (Frank Welker) voices Isis the cat left the chat.
I didn’t know Steve Urkel voiced sonic
This was during the '90s DiC run of Sonic cartoons; featuring The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), and Sonic Underground (as featured here).
I think it's kinda fair to have some female characters voiced by men because some male characters are voiced by women like Bart Simpson
Jaleel White after voicing the Sonic trio (possibly):"Did I do that?"
I was wondering if Mrs. The Monarch would be on this list.
