Adult animation steven scares me because yeah that’s the current animation style of adult cartoons and that is absolutely what he would look like if he was in one😅
It is painful how similar my reaction was. I didn’t think it would be so bad, like you were exaggerating, but no, I believe that sequence of events happened 100% exactly as you described
Tbh I disagree. I think, considering the show’s genres and target demographic (tweens) 2020s Steven would have a remarkably similar design to his original. You mostly see the style that Harry mimicked for 2020s in adult animation, whereas much of 2020s tween animation takes inspiration from anime, as well as from shows like… Steven Universe itself (and others, such Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, etc. but the point stands).
Feel like the title should’ve been “Cartoon Network tweeted” because I believe Steven universe does have their own Twitter that is people who actually worked on the show. This is just corporate trying to cheaply drive engagement
For everyone that says the image looks like AI: I went to the original tweet, and the art is definitely hand drawn. The AI texture may just be an artifact of AI upscaling, as the image is pretty compressed and small in the original tweet and likely wouldn't have looked as good in the video when upscaled.

ok but the point is drawing steven in the style. children existed back then, even in cartoons. imagine if harry gold was drawing a child character in the style of a show with mainly adult characters but plenty of kid characters to choose from as reference, and instead harry sacrificed recognizeability and aged up the kid character. now the character is both in a different art style and looks very different. this is bad.

Why does Steven look like an adult in most of the older redraws? (The 30’s to the 60’s). Were there not any child characters to reference? Or would he actually have been aged up during that time
I don't know; for an _extremely_ long stretch of human history, "children's fashion" was just "adult fashion, but smaller," so depending on how the rest of the cast is drawn, I think you could get most of the Stevens to pass as children with the right voice actors, but yeah, there's no way 1940s Steven is any younger than 35.
I personally really like your videos and find them fun and fun with an e! They also give me inspiration to draw which is rare. The thing is that sometimes when I show videos of your to my friends some think that you're egotistical and bashing the works of other artists to make yourself look better. I personally don't see it that way, and I think what you said at the end of this video perfectly explains your thought process of these "fixing art style video" things. Keep up the good work!
I mean cool designs but it bothers me how in almost all of them he's an adult? It doesnt feel very recognizable as Steven in the show where he's a kid or at most a teen in Future
Another comment said that this is Steven if he was MADE in those decades, rather than him in the decade's art style, and for most of those decades it was more common to see adult characters

The ad blocks that The Harry Gold Show has should be real ad blocks. They're very well thought out and very charming. Also, Harry Gold's style is fantastic
This was drawn in 2020. While it's not IMPOSSIBLE for it to be generated (for example, sights like "this cat does not exist" were around back then), it's just very unlikely it was AI
Kind of cringe how Cartoon Network feels the need to have the characters be in the same pose for each style swap. The art would benefit from it being different poses each time
I know it’s a whole month later, but I thought I’d throw my suggestion for video out there again. Bugs Bunny turned 80 not too long ago and of course Disney studios just celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, so I thought it might be fun to see the styles of Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse & Friends swapped and the commentary could be like one of those fake histories you do that make like it had always been the case.
He *does* turn old at one point… not that that’s relevant. But- tweedle Dee and tweedle Dum are children, and they look very similar to this Steven, down to the nose and mouth lines. It’s not too unlikely.
@@TheMelloyMan I never said children didn’t exist before this time period. I’m just saying, it’s a stylistic choice that still matches up with child characters of the time.
Also I am a bit confused about the original CN post, looks fine and done by hand at a glance (ie, linework looks natural, it all makes sense, it looks a bit off in the way that an artist trying to mimic a style would) but when you show close-up, it is very much AI-generated in the lineart and colour fill.
The style of clothing harry drew him in are what we associate with grandpa clothes now
Animation in the periods depicted us usually had adult characters instead.
14:11 Nightmare blunt rotation 🔥
nah that’s a dream right there 🗣️🔥
Hi! Harry I love all your videos, your style of 50's shows and the modern era OMG, you're AWESOME!!
40s Steven looks like he drives a white van with a piece of paper that hangs loose in the back of the van that just says "free candy "
Man, i had a terrible headache, but for some reason your voice just healed me instantly. Thank you.
And your video is awesome too :)
9:18 i aint hearing NO ONE out
9:20 IM WHEEZING 😂
I audibly laughed so hard that I choked on my food.
Man I remember when this channel had only like 5k subscribers. It's so nice to see you getting the recognition you deserve!
I like how they do the sponsors animation, it brings me to much memories
I like how the title implies that Steven Universe, the character, did the art himself.
He would of probably done a better job honestly.
Why would steven post this 😢
I personally really like your videos and find them fun and fun with an e!
This is the first time in years I haven't skipped the ad 😮😮 (first time in the channel btw)... I'm so pleasently shocked.. subscribed
As a person who studies paleontology, i would have never expected Dromiceomimus of all dinosaurs to be mentioned.
I love watching these because i learn so much about animation history and foundations
I mean cool designs but it bothers me how in almost all of them he's an adult? It doesnt feel very recognizable as Steven in the show where he's a kid or at most a teen in Future
yeah, I thought the same
Another comment said that this is Steven if he was MADE in those decades, rather than him in the decade's art style, and for most of those decades it was more common to see adult characters
@@alexp728 There are still plenty of kid characters to reference though seeing as a lot of those decades were focused on the nuclear family
Yeah, I didn’t recognize Steven until he got to the 1970s. I respect the time and effort, but he definitely needed more kid references.
I kinda noticed that too
Alright, let me say just how GOOD your videos art?! You put lots of research in them and they are very passionate! You replicate these art styles perfectly it’s extremely impressive!! And the humour always has an effect on me, seeing Amethyst Scoobidoo especially got me! Your caricatures are very good as well! Although I can’t guess this one haha!
The Harry Gold show truly has *golden* content to offer.
0:22 oh…. Not very good…. *they didn’t have to do this to my boy Astro*
the simpleflips reference, I love it!! xD amazing work as always Mr. Gold 💙💙
You are the only youtuber who makes great advertising for sponsors
I can't stop looking at 2000s Steven, you captured that style perfectly
god when can they stop doing this shit 😭 PLEASEEEE hire someone else.
It's quick and dirty interactions, it's not made for actual entertainment
@@bucket6079plus it makes for good Harry Gold content
God I love these videos, I’m really glad we’re able to keep this series going while still keeping it fresh!
13:43 I call this art style Family Burgers and Morty
More like family guy and american dad
"F is for Bojack Brickle PD"
I like to call it the Netflix animation art style
these videos inspire me so much, i love how technical they are
16:00 Is it you?
As always, perfectly captured everything. Man you're just so good!
The person that copies other peoples homework vs. the person that actually puts the time and effort to do it
I WAS craving some Harry Gold just earlier today! Now I get to wind down from a particularly infuriating Sunday with some gold-standard redesigns.
9:36 Let me tell you something 'bout a friend of ours-a named Jimmy
a made-a wise guy and a capo with a gambini
The ad blocks that The Harry Gold Show has should be real ad blocks. They're very well thought out and very charming.
Also, Harry Gold's style is fantastic
every day with a harry gold upload is a good day
amazing work as always!
this guy actually gets me engaged in the sponsorship sections. Congrats
12:36 Some of the streaks in the original Cartoon Network hair look like AI generated garbled noise????
This was drawn in 2020. While it's not IMPOSSIBLE for it to be generated (for example, sights like "this cat does not exist" were around back then), it's just very unlikely it was AI
Its hand drawn and from 2020 so that may be just from ai upscaling of the original image
@@iexistapparently7862 But the missing toe?
@@Redacted_Theorist Didnt you see the hands? Its a deliberate artistic choice, AI upscaling just made it look worse
@@Redacted_Theorist Humans can forget about toes and fingers too. I honestly wouldnt be surprised with how crap this whole drawing is
This channel is so underrated. Even the ad was amazing.
Bro somehow made me love watching a Manscaped Ad
I've been binging your videos for an hour after discovering them this upload time is wild 😭
Goddam Cartoon Network AGAIN!?!? Are you learning NOTHING!?!?!!?
I think whoever running that page is a fan why else would they keep doing this
@@arran4285 perhaps is more videos from harry, but that is just a theory, what do you think harry?……
This was 4 years ago...
@@maritoxico9982 what was four years ago?……
@@royjranimations8279 the steven image was 4 years ago
Harry gold is the only person on youtube who makes me want to watch his sponsors, he should get into advertising.
6:02 why'd u made him old, tho?? 😭
He *does* turn old at one point… not that that’s relevant. But- tweedle Dee and tweedle Dum are children, and they look very similar to this Steven, down to the nose and mouth lines. It’s not too unlikely.
@@morimorizutto1907 I think kids and cartoon kids existed in the 30's
@@TheMelloyMan I never said children didn’t exist before this time period. I’m just saying, it’s a stylistic choice that still matches up with child characters of the time.
Were the main characters being adults the most popular at the time? Because that could easily explain it.
@@bryn1063 technically. A large majority were animals, but the few humans were usually adults. Or weird semi-childlike animal things.
i adore the sponsor segments, i wish all youtubers advertised in a unique way like this
I bet one day either cartoon network or Nickelodeon will commission him to make the styles of there characters
Man, you have no idea how happy that sponsor segment and care bears-esque steven made me 😭 truly nobody is doing it like Mr. Gold
How strange!
“How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man!?”
I loved the simple flips joke because at the very start I just went “damn that could’ve just been submitted as SF fan art and nobody would’ve bat an eye.
