I can only imagine how fabulous your wedding would be. You have such a wonderful eye for style and fashion. Congratulations on your own happily ever after!
I am SO obsessed with the elegance of Cinderella wedding dress. It is classic yet not boring, beautifully feminine but not in a exagerated way. I also love the pop of black in the choker, we rarely see Disney princesses using black.
Like the black more as a contrast to the white and silver. And of course she always could have worn her ball gown as her Wedding Dress and pulled it off.
@@growingupwithdisney Right?! I remember going back one day, and most princesses didn't get married, but since you assume they do, everyone treats it like they all got married. Even if you count subsequent films/shorts, only Jasmine, Mulan, and Rapunzel are added to that list. Snow White (unless you count one of her storybooks), Aurora, Pocahontas, Merida, Moana, and Raya have not married. It's literally tied at the amount of married vs unmarried.
I really hope we see a return to romance in Disney films. Tangled is SO good in terms of displaying a healthy relationship, and I think they could do a lot of good displaying positive and healthy forms of romance in their films.
@@NeoNovastar I'd love it, but it does feel like execs are influencwd by live-action film politics. Maybe the original 2026 film will have an MC romance. And I wasn't a fan of Flynn Rider (but I've already ranted about that before), let alone his relationship with Rapunzel. Aside from their designs and personalities making them feel like they have a significant age gap between them, I wasn't a fan of how Flynn took advantage of her lack of self-confidence and emotional distress and took her somewhere seedy to manipulate her into going back home and giving him the crown.
The end of Aladdin with its fireworks and Aladdin and Jasmine flying off after kissing suggests marriage. But the sequels retconned it. To me the purple outfit in the end of the movie is Jasmines real wedding outfit, just because it’s not white and a dress doesn’t mean it’s not wedding attire! And it’s beautiful!
It was not that unusual to happen in the era either and it’s shown in many 50s films too. The marriage was more important than the wedding, even if some had bigger ones. The outfit color is a tad odd however. I would have picked grey. This is a couple of decades earlier but Carole Lombard wore a beautiful grey suit to her wedding to Clark Gable (the wedding was simple since both had divorced before and that matter back then). It still got the fanfare of wedding ballgowns since it was a celebrity wedding.
@@sarasamaletdin4574 Maybe it's a subtle hint that Anita had been married before? Back in the early and mid 20th century, women who were divorced or widowed often chose off white or another colour for their wedding dresses. One of my American relatives chose a pale pink dress when she married in the 1950's because her first husband sadly passed away and it was seen to be bad taste to wear pure white if you had been married before.
Both sets of my grandparents got married in the time period that the movie takes place in (late 1950's) and weddings were really about what you could realistically afford. One side had a bit more income (Grandad's father was a lawyer, he was working towards a similar-paying profession) and they had all the bells &whistles- white fluffy dress, dinner afterwards, etc. Grandparents on my maternal side had a church wedding as well, but it was very modest and my grandma wore an outfit similar to Anita's. It was a new beige dress, but something she could reuse in an office setting, they had to be pragmatic about what they could justify purchasing for a one-time event. Aside from the surface-level stuff, there's also some time period nuance as well. Nowadays it's not unusual for people to use credit cards to pay for weddings (as much as 56% of couples, according to a quick Google search!) But back then the average person was really limited to car or house loans- the bank wouldn't risk making a loan for something as frivolous as a wedding, especially only 30 years out from the great depression. What "credit cards" did exist for leisure purposes typically had to be paid off in full at the end of the month, a big change from what we have today.
I think it's ridiculous that Jasmine is wearing a white dress on her wedding. Even if it cartoon, they should've tried to make it look less european and more like the places the story was inspired by, it would be nice to see a colourful dress with many ornaments
This! I like the dress they animated but they also could've done more work researching and trying to make it work, the purple outfit at the end of the first Aladdin really worked well (as I assume they got married right after??? but idk how it works as I only saw the original Aladdin and not the sequels) as her wedding attire.
The sequels at the time were done by the tv animation studios, hence the cheaper looking animation. Personally I think they did Jasmin dirty with the weird gold embellishments. Those shoulders look like something taken from the power rangers.
@@brianahyler381 I don't think animation quality is what matters here. They didn't need better animation not to make her wedding dress white just because that's the tradition in Western society. They could use another colour, and add something like a gold jewellery on the neck, looking like several round pieces of gold and that would already make her dress look at least not so western
@@zhanelv9459 I guess I should have gone more in depth. Unlike the Disney movie studios, who would actually research cultures and have a whole secondary department dedicated to trying to make the film mass marketable, the tv animation studios were given a short deadline and no real assistance. There WAS going to be a different wedding outfit for Jasmine. Her purple outfit was supposed to be it. The Movietoons studio in Singapore changed it because they wanted to reduce the animation needed on her outfit, when they tried the purple set from the original film the difference in animation quality was too noticeable. This was an actual concern for the department at the time. TV animation used less frames per second so it was cheaper but couldn't handle the same effects. Since this was direct to VHS, they just didn't care for the international demographics, it was only marketed for western audiences. This is all to say; the reason Jasmine is in an ugly white gown instead of a more bedazzled version of the purple one like was originally intended, is because the studio needed to animate a movie as cheaply as possible. since the primary demographic was western kids ages 4-13, they weren't going to spend time making a more culturally accurate outfit, as the reasoning was young western kids might not get that it was supposed to be a wedding if they didn't see a white gown.
@@brianahyler381 I see. However, one thing I don't agree with is that children wouldn't understand it was a wedding dress if it had been made of different colour. They are not stupid. I am not from a Western country, but in my country wedding dresses (not traditional/historical ones, the western style ones which is the majority) are mostly white. And still I never found it hard to in understand that those dresses in cartoons and films I watched were for wedding, even though they didn't look like usual wedding dresses.
I liked Tiana wedding gown/dress best also. It had a modern, simple yet flattering, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy like quality. If you have a nicely shaped body, this dress will flatter without looking overdone. I also liked Tiana's lily-pad inspired gown, because it's not just a white, puffy dress.
I love her dress makes it obvious what movie she's from even if you've never seen her before. I wish more disney movies did that just because of how marketable it is
A note on Katrina's wedding dress. During the time period, it was not common to wear white, it wasn't until Queen Victoria that it became the norm. Most woman up until then even wealthy women would wear their best dress. Many times their best Sunday attire. Or if very poor what ever they had. For wealthy women they would wear the best they could normally afford. Her gown would actually be very opulent for the time and matches her personality.
@@sarasamaletdin4574it was not really. Becouse it's was the new vest dress if even afford a new one for it. Then it also was most of the guests in white as well
Very enjoyable video! One note, as a historian and former nun: the drapey thing Maid Marian wears IS in fact a veil, not a wimple. A wimple wraps around the neck and cheeks and may cover the head underneath a veil, but a veil is a piece of material draped over the top of the head like Maid Marian is wearing (and her fox ears underneath are covered by a cap, also not a wimple). Thank you for including that concept art! Such a missed opportunity not to emphasize her fox ears with a hennin!
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle The process to become a nun is very long all the while you go through postulancy, noviciate and your first profession of temporary vows you can renounce them and leave. Only after many years living in the community do nuns profess permanent vows. Then you can't leave ( in good terms with the church at least they won't lock you in )
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle @celinefaucher3771 gave a pretty good explanation, especially in the second comment. In my case, things were going well but the monastery's circumstances changed while I was in the novitiate and they couldn't keep me on.
I haven't seen Mulan 2, but I would imagine the in-universe reason for her outfit was that it WAS her matchmaker outfit and her best dress, so it was an appropriate pick for her wedding.
Honestly, I just love how her 1st movie ended without a wedding, because her story wasn’t about it anyway. It was about protecting your family, your country. And I love the original story in which she were never been revealed as a woman, not until long after the war had ended and a general offer her to married his daughter. At that point she had to explain and uncover her secrets. However, the general absolutely respected her as a warrior and a general that had done so much for the country. So he never public her secret. She retired and came back home and live happily with her family and doing whatever she wanted. Plus, as an asian, wedding at that time isn’t a good thing for women anyway. sure Shang could be nice as a lover. but at that time that place, once you married a man, your social status literally instantly became his slave basically. A man could had as many wife as he want and even kill his wife without any consequences, a woman would be tortured to death if she is caught being raped.
@trinhvietanh9521 I know it's probably not realistic, but I loved Mulan 2 and while they argued a bit (Mushu's fault), the fact they fought as a team instead of it being the "traditional" roles
@@trinhvietanh9521same. Personally I think Mulan should’ve just stayed single instead, but I still actually really liked Mulan 2, mainly because of the princesses and their adorable relationships with Mulan’s comrades. It’s similar with Pocahontas, I actually kinda dig the ending didn’t go with Pocahontas and John Smith getting together or married. A huge reason is BECAUSE that wasn’t the point of Pocahontas’s story, nor was marriage a be all end all like in the Little Mermaid or other princess movies. Yeah I still hate the sequel, but I also found it completely unnecessary as a continuation for Pocahontas’s story and I personally think Pocahontas should’ve just remained single. I know back then a requirement for Disney Princesses and non like Esmerelda or Meg was “they had to have a love interest” and it really wasn’t until Merida came up that the requirement was changed. And despite I personally don’t like Brave, I do like how it changed official princesses weren’t required to have a romantic subplot or love interest to qualify for the lineup. Frankly I’m a little confused as to why Mirabel isn’t in the lineup with how fairly popular Encanto still is
@@trinhvietanh9521 it's a fairy tale, it's not meant to have real-life implications but rather a wedding being what it should be ideally, not what it probably would be like. If we were going to the route of being realistic about marriage in Disney movies, every wedding would be arranged and women would still be seen as properties in European cultures as well, it wasn't only bad for Chinese women, despite the differences. Also, in Mulan's specific universe, marriage being gruesome is not the likely outcome (again, because it's a fairy tale, but it's the universe we have to consider first) as you can see by her own parents who truly loved and cared for each other. Interesting information, but not what we should keep in mind when deciding what character is going to marry and be happy or not and be safe.
My mother was married around the time The Little Mermaid came out and had her wedding dress made after Ariel's! She brought the photo of Ariel to the dressmaker! Also loved your rankings!! 🥰🤍✨
I‘ve gotta defend Rapunzel here. It’s a German story and the dresses are clearly inspired by traditional southern German clothing. Especially the final look of the original movie resembles a Mieder, a blouse that is often worn with a skirt instead of a dirndl. And while it’s sad they reused it for the wedding it is true to modern reality that she might wear a a white version if traditional clothing rather than a classic wedding dress. I would argue Rapuzels dresses that are only inspired by traditional clothing is more acurate than most other „dirndls“ we‘ve seen in american media.
I agree! There are also subtle details that differentiate it from her purple dress, and I’m sad she didn’t even point that out, instead making accusations of them being “lazy”. I LOVE her dress, especially with how it looks with her short hair, and I also think that the veil may reference how long her hair used to be. It’s simple and captures the style that she had throughout the first movie-if I ever had a wedding, I personally would choose a dress similar to hers. Is that lazy of me? Haha :D
A romcom wedding dress vid would be fun but I’d love to hear more thoughts on Non-Disney cartoon wedding dresses! Thumbelin and Odette come to mind first but there’s lots more that i think would be fun to rank too
I know it's anime, but you can add Sailor Moon Cosmos Part 2 to that list since the main char gets married in it (FINALLY after wait over 20 years for that scene to get animated). People forget about this movie (I know I did), but Tuptim from the animated version of the King and I gets married to the King's son. Another would be Moses's wedding in the Prince of Eqypt. Fiona from the Shrek movies.
i think the dress rapunzel wears at the end of tangled is actually the same as her wedding dress, it just looks purple in the lighting. it could be inferred that the movie ends on her wedding day. also, i think it's neat that her super long veil was an ode to her super long hair
@@kristinahuchison2511 Series are often not considered canon just like direct to video sequels. And I hate how anti-marriage Disney is nowadays, especially in that stupid Tangled series where they literally portray marriage as a prison for Rapunzel even though in the movie she loved him so much that she wanted to give up everything just to save him. I really hate that! Whoever considers marriage to be a prison is either not with the right person or shouldn't have a relationship in the first place because then they are subconsciously thinking about cheating or breaking up! But when you truly love someone, you want to marry them and don't reject them because you feel like it means you have to give up your freedom! This is such a red flag and just implies that he is not the right one for her and I don't believe she would truly be happy with him if even the thought of marrying him scared her so much at the beginning and continued to scare her for more than a year! I can't believe they are portraying that as love! It's not love and Flynn deserves better! And I hate the historical inaccuracy because back then people married early because that was the only way to truly be together and I hate it when the other princesses are criticized for marrying so early when that was how things worked back then especially for princesses and when they are so in love, it's completely ok to marry after a few months! But nobody waited years after becoming a couple back then to marry and nobody stayed together after one person literally rejected a proposal, heck even today no one should stay together after such a rejection and such a relationship could never work because then you have to different point of views and if she truly loved him, she would want to marry him and not see it as a trap! And I hate it even more because the original fairy tale is about why it was wrong to start a love relationship before being married and how dangerous it was and in the original she accepted his proposal the first time and she is one of the only princesses in fairy tales who literally accepts a proposal. In the other fairy tales except beauty and the beast, there are no proposals even if they got married. And in the first version of Rapunzel, called petrosinella she only wanted to leave the tower to be able to marry her prince! She saw marriage as a liberation and a chance to get out of an abusive household and certainly not as a prison! And she was so in love with her prince and he was with her and they knew marrying was the only way they could be together forever and also the right thing to do! So, to sum up, I'd say Disney's Rapunzel is now the complete opposite of the original and she shouldn't even be called that anymore! I bet the brothers grimm or basile would spin in their graves if they saw that stupid TV series! I really want to count it as not canon! And what I hate about the whole marriage Thing in this context is that they are basically saying that it's Not ok to marry someone whom you deeply and truly Love after a few months but it's OK to try to give up your entire freedom and basically your entire life for someone whom you Just met three days ago. If they Love each other that much that they would do Something Like that after only having known each other for a few days than their Love is so strong and true and then they could and should marry after a Short time Especially considering the time period the movie is Set where they could only truly be together after being married. And If Disney wanted to Show a couple Not marrying so soon they should have taken a different couple than Rapunzel and Flynn because they proved how deeply and truly they Loved each other after a few days and since they almost Lost each other it would make Sense that they wouldn't want to lose more time together after they saw how Short life can be and besides, their Story Takes place in a time where people married early. They should have rather Had Tiana and Naveen marry only after a few years because they dont seem Like they fit very well together and didnt try to die for each other after a few days and furthermore their Story Takes place in the 1920s, Not the 1700s. They would have been perfect for Not marrying immidiately, Not Rapunzel and Flynn who seem like the worst candidates for this in my opinion. And that whole rejecting marriage plotline is the worst Storyline I've ever Seen. They send the Message that marriage is a prison even though you Love each other and that is such a horrible Message. And it's Especially horrible how in the Episode beyond the Corona walls, it seems Like that she never wanted to marry him at the beginning of the Episode which raises the question why the hell she is even still with him If a life with him seems so horrible to her and also why the hell she wouldn't want to marry the man she Loved that much that she wanted to Go to prison for for all eternity in the movie. It Just doesn't make any logical Sense and is inconsistent with the movie and also the Wedding Short where she looked so deeply in Love and so incredible Happy. It Just doesn't make Sense that she would have rejected the proposal before. And whats worse is that in that Episode it seems Like she only changed her mind about marriage because Stalyan wanted him which makes it seem like she only wants him when another girl wants him which is so incredibly toxic. If someone considers marriage as a prison, then that means they are subconsciously thinking about cheating or breaking up! I analyzed this once in school about a book where a guy who considered marriage as a prison in a similar way as Rapunzel in this stupid series, ended up cheating on his girlfriend! And that is precisely what would happen in real life! When someone rejects marriage, the relationship is over! And I'm pretty Sure the writers of Tangled intended for tangled ever After to Take place shortly after the movie because the little girls of the movie seemed to be the Same age in the Short and Wikipedia also states it was originally intended to Take place immediately after the movie. The series Just doesn't seem believable and seems Like it Takes place in a completely different universe as the movie. And I Just can't consider it Canon because of all These reasons and it's obvious that it was written by someone else than the movie. So, Right now I Just Count it as Not Canon to still be able to watch the movie. If I Had to Count it as Canon, then I Wish Flynn would have stayed dead at the end of the movie and wasnt brought back to life. It would have been a very sad and tragic ending but it would have at least been better than showing such a toxic relationship between two characters who were both trying to sacrifice themselves for each other.
@@mariechen4375 Amazing. Another person that actually hates the series besides me. 😮 😊 (Ppl hate an arc, a character, or even Rapunzel, but not the series as a whole) And that comes from a person whose fave movie is none other than Tangled 😂
@@briarlavender1656 Same! The movie is in my top three but I am also the number one hater of this stupid series. And I really want to count it as not canon considering that it was written by different people than the movie and luckily Disney doesn't seem to consider it as canon because the characters in the parks are not even required to watch the series. It's just like a very bad fanfiction!
One thing I do think is cute about Ellie's wedding dress is that the thick straps with little circles (flowers? lace? idk) look like the overalls with buttons that she's wearing when she and carl first meet
I kind of love that animated Anita is not wearing a wedding dress. I think it further communicates that Anita is a no-nonsense modern woman who knows the kind of outfits she likes. It’s as if the couple went to City Hall to get married; no big ceremony 😊 Love this channels videos btw!
"As someone who is currently trying to figure out what to wear to their own wedding" EXCUSE ME??? I didn't know you are going to get married!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
I never realized how much sense it made for Lottie to wear a pink wedding dress, it fits her character so well. Not just because she loves princesses and other girly things but it also shows that she's not as mature as Tiana and tends to be extravagant and spoiled, I don't think I've ever fully considered Tiana's lilly pad dress to be wedding attire either until now. I was so used to it just being a princess dress.
I like that Rodger and Anita don't have the big wedding. It shows a side of life where not everyone needs or wants a massive affair. I also appreciate that is isn't the end of the film. If I get married it will likely be less then 10 people there. So for me it works.
Same. I just don't see marriages or weddings in a very good light due to family situations I've witnessed at times... I could marry through a civil partnership perhaps, but I don't think I'd want to have a big ceremony.
Although it's another case of "barely seeing it," I'm curious to see where you'd rank Helen Parr's wedding dress in this lineup? And YES, please do a rom-com ranking video!!
I like to think that Maid Marian wearing the Wimple during the whole movie is symbolic of her only having eyes for Robin Hood, subconsciously telling people that she isnt interested
disney's fashion design has always been fascinating me. the period pieces still find a way to mimic the trends of the time the movie was made in, and the concept art reveals just how many variants have to be brought forward before landing on one. britney lee is an excellent example of an artist specifically tasked with the disney animated costuming and her work on frozen is absolutely stunning
Cinderella’s wedding dress in the sequel also has a boatneck, which is typical of the 1950’s. I think Audrey Hepburn has a movie wedding dress like that.
It does frustrate me that Disney doesn’t want the princesses to be married or have romances in general right now, like I get the girl power message, it’s great but isn’t it fantastic when a female lead is strong and extraordinary even while being married and/or in a relationship? I’m pretty sure romance is in nowadays, I crave CHEMISTRY and PERSONALITY
AGREED. Sometimes, especially nowadays when the dating scene feels kinda hopeless, it’s good to see other people happy in marriage. Ik I’m always feeling a little happier when I see a bride when I’m out and about. I haven’t been seeing many lately.
I think instead of 'Romance, ew!' they should focus more on genuinely healthy relationships. For most people, a romantic relationship is something they genuinely want, and its sad to see it be treated as something embarrassing or demeaning. And I say this as someone who doesn't like romance, so I know they've gone overboard when even I notice
I thought Pepa's dress was a storytelling device. Her hair and face are also totally identical despite 20+ years passing. And it's not just her: Felix also looks totally identical, but in white. We're not seeing true events, were seeing Mira's interpretation of events as her aunt and uncle explain it to her because she wasn't born then. That's why "Bruno" looks like a total villain when he comes out in their retelling. Do you think he actually walked up with the Kubrick stare, glowing eyes and scheming hand gentures on the wedding day? No. But Mira is imagining it. We see this elsewhere in the movie too: Abuela telling Mirabel about her painful past in the beginning (and how her child mind processed it innocently) and then Mira "seeing" the events again as an adult through a much more realistic and anguished lens. I thought it was actually super cool and pretty comical that Pepa and Felix are wearing the same thing, but in white.
Nobody asked, but here are my Top 5: 1- Cinderella (the original dress) 2 - Nancy 3 - Tiana's princess dress (but make it all white) 4 - Ariel 5 - Giselle I admit that I really like puffy sleeves 😅
Oh, lovely as always, Tessa! I never really paid attention to how beautifull Calhoun´s dress was, thanks for that. I too have a deep beef with "make her usual outfit white and call it a day" troupe, and also, generally have a deep dislike for huge puff sleeves, but Ariel pulled them off! Finally, Good to know that I´m not the only one who thinks Fru-Fru wore her dress better than Connie. The fact that the piece is more timeless certainly helps. Loved the video!
I love your dress ranking videos. They inspire me when I draw and sew dresses (for dolls). I think the reason Ellie’s dress is so simple is because they spend most of their money on renovating the house so they had a cheeper wedding.
The only Disney wedding dress that really stands out in my mind is Lily James’ dress from the end of the 2015 live action Cinderella. That dress makes me *feel* something, and I personally love it more than her blue dress. I wonder why I don’t pay as much attention to the animated characters’ wedding dresses. Normally I am all about the clothes!
29:35 since it’s a fantastical scene all thought, I thought the dresses were the same due to mirabel's imagination, just as felix's outfit seems like a white version of his casual outfit
@odinandloki It is coming up quickly now... just remember why you two chose to get married at all. It is one of the most stressful days you will ever have, it's good stress obviously, but give yourself some slack and just enjoy it. Congratulations.
Ever since I was little, I always thought that my mom's wedding dress look just like Ariel's and then later on in life learned that my parents got married the same year that the Little mermaid came out so it totally makes sense.
Cinderella's original fairy-godmother dress was white but later they made it more blue because they didn't want the costumes to seem bridal. If I had wear one of these I'd probably choose Cinderella's wedding dress. I also love the 2015 live action wedding dress.
From my understanding it wasn't originally blue but instead actually silver. It later was accepted as blue then it sort of became her color, likely because silver is difficult to replicate in merch and other renderings of her character. But in the movie, it was originally meant to be silver ball gown.
I liked Calhon's best, even though I dislike white wedding dresses on priciple. I wore a purple dress, and a handmade "night sky" cloak with rhinestones arranged like real constellations at my wedding! Celebrating my 10th anniversary in a few months!
I absolutely *love* Ariel's wedding dress and if I were doing this ranking it'd be #1 (no hate just stating my opinion). She's the Disney princess blueprint and so many of the princesses that came after her have been inspired by her. Yes I know she's not the first princess (shout-out to Snow White) but there's no denying how much Ariel influenced all the future princesses. Plus the way her wedding dress was reminiscent of her first pink dress I think was a beautiful touch since it was worn when Eric is first getting to know her. And then like you mentioned, the green piping referenced her time as a mermaid as well. Yes it's very of it's time and dated by today's standards, but in the context of the film, when the film was released, and Ariel's personality it's totally perfect.
I would love a rom-coms wedding video! And also one on animated ladies of not-Disney? You have a clip of the Swan Princess here, pretty sure there's a wedding in Thumbelina, others??
I think Katrina's dress is blue, because the creators wanted to indicate she wasn't a virgin. I think back in the 50, they might think it was a good idea.
I just want to give my girl Ellie an out. She probably decided not to spend too much money on her dress, hence the plainess. Whatever money they had most likely went to the purchase of the house.
i love vanessas copy of ariels kiss the girl dress. that style is one of my favorites, especially in animation. i also love auroras dress in the beginning of sleeping beauty
I clicked on the video expecting a simple ranking but you delivered such a fashion history class! Unexpected, since it's the first video I watch from you, but very welcomed!
17:22 The wedding dress that is the epitome of understated elegance of 1950’s Cinderella was near perfection. However, the most perfect dress in Disney history (although not a wedding dress), was Cinderella’s 2nd ball gown, Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo’d into existence by her fairy godmother. I saw it in the theater as a child in NYC to a packed house and the entire audience gasped. TIMELESS!
I would love to see a video on all the different versions of Cinderella’s dresses. The Rogers and Hammerstein film, Ever After, the Hillary Duff one, etc. Rank them!
@@ModernGurlz if you think Disney's Rapunzel’s dresses are boring you should check out Barbie as Rapunzel a person on the internet said she dresses better than Disney’s version.
@@ModernGurlz can you please explain your commentaries? first you said you don’t like too much princessy dresses than when it’s Rapunzel's turn you were like she is a princess she should have something exciting.
Love all the original sketches during the design phase, so fascinating to see some of the other ideas they were toying with and potential directions they could have gone in instead.
YES!!!! I love Tiana's wardrobe as a whole, but her wedding dresses are so beautiful, so happy that you gave them the love they deserve 💚💚💚💚💚 loved the ranking!
Cinderella’s all the way! The first movie may be from the 1950s, but there is something so timeless and elegant about it that I wish I’d worn something similar at my wedding. The simple choker necklace is likewise timeless (I agree a string of pearls would’ve been more appropriate since she’s marrying into royalty, but then again, maybe the animators went with the choker as a reference to her humble beginnings). There’s some historical reasons for Katrina’s (and others on this list) dress not being white. Like you mentioned during Maid Marian’s part, until fairly recently, most Western brides just wore the nicest dress they owned at their wedding, regardless of color. White wedding dresses didn’t become the standard until the 1800s, when Queen Victoria got married. Wearing white was a status symbol, because it was so hard to clean and remove stains (even today: both my mom’s and my own wedding dresses have chocolate stains on the skirt. Guess we have similar tastes 😂).
Tiana’s second wedding dress has always been so stunning to me! It’s so different from any other dresses we see the princesses wear. If I had to wear any of the dresses it would certainly be that one 💚
You talking about your wedding reminded me of mine. I planned an entirely Sailor Moon themed wedding. 9 bridesmaids. It was a wild adventure but it ended up all being worth it. You’re one of my favorite channels. Whatever struggles you went through, I hope you have all the happiness in the world. Congratulations! 💕
Congratulations on your wedding Tessa!! I wish you and your husband all the happiness of the world. I love your ranking videos, they're so entertaining to watch. I love your opinions on each of them.
First of all, congrats on your engagement! I hope finding your wedding dress and all of the other planning goes smoothly for you. My favorite wedding dress is Cinderella's. I love the simplicity and the clean, cut lines. She looks timeless in it.
This was such a fun video, thanks for making it! I like how you made the cultural connections with bridal fashions from the decades each movie came out.
Since there were so many dresses that took inspiration from royal weddings, it would be fun to see a ranking of royal wedding dresses! 😍 Like your top 15 or something since obviously there’s so many 😄
Congratulations!! Great video and I'd love to see one on romcom wedding dresses too and maybe one for the live action Disney movies (Aurora's was fun.)
I absoluttely love Belle´s. The yellow ballgown was a trainwreck, but God lord, they almost make up for it with her bridal look. Historically accurate? Perhaps not. Fabulous? Tottaly. And her hairdo...I would get married with a hairdo like that.
Ariel’s dress is probably my favourite. It reminds me so much of Princess Diana’s dress which is already such an iconic wedding dress in pop culture. Plus I’m a sucker for wedding dresses with puff sleeves
First of all, congratulations! Second, this was a lot of fun! Tiana's swamp dress is probably my favorite, but Nancy's is really pretty too - the necklace is a cute detail that complements the neckline. And I love Cinderella's dress referencing her earlier ones! I'd definitely be up for more wedding dress videos.
The reason Frufru's dress is so simple compared to the more gaudy pink one that's giving "big fat American Gypsy wedding" is because it's her mother's dress that her cousin kept and gave to her.
One little note: Cinderella’s wedding dress has a continuity error. Your video shows it at @17:39. As she and the prince smooch in the coach, her sleeves are short and puffed. Those are her ballgown sleeves and NOT the long smooth wedding gown sleeves we just saw as she and the prince leave the castle and wave to everyone. Whoopsie!! Just though I’d share. Awesome video!
3:50 you mention the wedding of sarah ferguson + prince im-gonna-pretend-he-doesnt-exist as the rzn for the crown but i think diana's dress definitely had a part to play in the puff sleeves, even if it was a couple years prior to production, since its so iconic even now

I can only imagine how fabulous your wedding would be. You have such a wonderful eye for style and fashion. Congratulations on your own happily ever after!
Congratulations for your wedding
Oh my god! I’m so excited to follow your wedding process! Do you have a dress picked out yet?
Have you done a video on the ready or not wedding dress
Congratulations!
I am SO obsessed with the elegance of Cinderella wedding dress. It is classic yet not boring, beautifully feminine but not in a exagerated way. I also love the pop of black in the choker, we rarely see Disney princesses using black.
Ah, the New Look was quite something!
😊 yeah I think Cinderella had the best wedding dress.
The original right? That is my number one here.
Totally agree with you❤
Like the black more as a contrast to the white and silver. And of course she always could have worn her ball gown as her Wedding Dress and pulled it off.
Fun fact: Ariel, Cinderella, and Tiana are the only Disney princesses who get married in their theatrical films.
the way people complain about it, you'd think it happened in every Disney princess movie pre-Frozen
In 101 Dalmatians, I always assumed Anita and Roger eloped because they couldn't afford a typical wedding, thus no dress
It's a now american thing with the rediqulus dresses and huge party and so on.
I always thought it was a private, court-style marriage because neither Anita or Roger were that social to hold a fancy ceremony
Flower fairy ✨
I love her dress makes it obvious what movie she's from even if you've never seen her before. I wish more disney movies did that just because of how marketable it is
A note on Katrina's wedding dress. During the time period, it was not common to wear white, it wasn't until Queen Victoria that it became the norm. Most woman up until then even wealthy women would wear their best dress. Many times their best Sunday attire. Or if very poor what ever they had. For wealthy women they would wear the best they could normally afford. Her gown would actually be very opulent for the time and matches her personality.
Victoria made white standard. But white still was historically most used color for the new dresses (and gold for royals).
@@sarasamaletdin4574it was not really. Becouse it's was the new vest dress if even afford a new one for it. Then it also was most of the guests in white as well
Fun fact: the reason why Frufru's dress is so simple is because it was her mother's dress.
No offense intended, but how can you be a former nun? Do you renounce your role? Or is it just like quitting a job?
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle The process to become a nun is very long all the while you go through postulancy, noviciate and your first profession of temporary vows you can renounce them and leave. Only after many years living in the community do nuns profess permanent vows. Then you can't leave ( in good terms with the church at least they won't lock you in )
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdlenvm apparently you can leave on good terms after permanent vows it just takes a lot of time and approval from the vatican
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle @celinefaucher3771 gave a pretty good explanation, especially in the second comment. In my case, things were going well but the monastery's circumstances changed while I was in the novitiate and they couldn't keep me on.
I about fell over at the concept art with the hennin. I love Marian to bits, and the hennin would be so cute!
Look up chinese traditional weddings...
Interesting information, but not what we should keep in mind when deciding what character is going to marry and be happy or not and be safe.

i bet she looked beautiful, those dresses were gorgeous
@@hanndai4208 Aww she was! The silhouette of the dress was so beautiful and fairy tale like!
I would argue Rapuzels dresses that are only inspired by traditional clothing is more acurate than most other „dirndls“ we‘ve seen in american media.
hard agree. doesn't make sense to expect a fluffy modem white wedding dress on a medieval story.
Thumbelin and Odette come to mind first but there’s lots more that i think would be fun to rank too
Kayley from Quest for Camelot
also Tzipporah's!
Thumbalina is disney
@menace135 no it's not, it's a Don Bluth film released by 20th Century Fox
i think the dress rapunzel wears at the end of tangled is actually the same as her wedding dress, it just looks purple in the lighting. it could be inferred that the movie ends on her wedding day. also, i think it's neat that her super long veil was an ode to her super long hair
that was a tangled short film.
Nope, the Tangled series confirmed the wedding takes place three years later, considering Flynn proposes to Rapunzel at least three times

It's just like a very bad fanfiction!

Yes! Someone finally puts some respect on Maid Marian ❤
She's not technically a princess, but no one ever mentions her(!). 🙏
I like that Rodger and Anita don't have the big wedding. It shows a side of life where not everyone needs or wants a massive affair. I also appreciate that is isn't the end of the film.
If I get married it will likely be less then 10 people there. So for me it works.
I also loved how relaxed it was!
Same. I just don't see marriages or weddings in a very good light due to family situations I've witnessed at times... I could marry through a civil partnership perhaps, but I don't think I'd want to have a big ceremony.

disney's fashion design has always been fascinating me. the period pieces still find a way to mimic the trends of the time the movie was made in, and the concept art reveals just how many variants have to be brought forward before landing on one. britney lee is an excellent example of an artist specifically tasked with the disney animated costuming and her work on frozen is absolutely stunning

I haven’t been seeing many lately.
i hope in a few years disney should make their female leads to fall in love with their love interests.
Same! I mean, Pocahontas, Mulan and Esmerelda are tough women that still found men who loved and supported them!

Nobody asked, but here are my Top 5:
1- Cinderella (the original dress)
2 - Nancy
3 - Tiana's princess dress (but make it all white)
4 - Ariel
5 - Giselle
I admit that I really like puffy sleeves 😅

I have always loved that wedding dress!! It’s magical 😊
29:35 since it’s a fantastical scene all thought, I thought the dresses were the same due to mirabel's imagination, just as felix's outfit seems like a white version of his casual outfit
That’s a good theory and makes sense 🤔
Just sat down to relax after wedding tasks. My wedding is next week! This video is perfect for a break.
Congratulations on your engagement :)
Congratulations! 🎉 🥳
congratulations!!💗💗
Congratulations!! 🎉❤
@odinandloki It is coming up quickly now... just remember why you two chose to get married at all. It is one of the most stressful days you will ever have, it's good stress obviously, but give yourself some slack and just enjoy it. Congratulations.
I would never wear it personality, but I love Ariel's. It's unashamedly OTT and princessy!
Also, congratulations on your engagement ❤
Ever since I was little, I always thought that my mom's wedding dress look just like Ariel's and then later on in life learned that my parents got married the same year that the Little mermaid came out so it totally makes sense.
Cinderella's original fairy-godmother dress was white but later they made it more blue because they didn't want the costumes to seem bridal.
If I had wear one of these I'd probably choose Cinderella's wedding dress. I also love the 2015 live action wedding dress.
I adore the live action wedding dress. I like it even more than the blue dress she wears to the ball.
Its silver
From my understanding it wasn't originally blue but instead actually silver. It later was accepted as blue then it sort of became her color, likely because silver is difficult to replicate in merch and other renderings of her character. But in the movie, it was originally meant to be silver ball gown.
I liked Calhon's best, even though I dislike white wedding dresses on priciple. I wore a purple dress, and a handmade "night sky" cloak with rhinestones arranged like real constellations at my wedding! Celebrating my 10th anniversary in a few months!
NOT THE ZOOTOPIA RAT!!!!
It's a shrew 🤬🤬🤬 (jk jk this is a funny comment)
Mr. Big wants to know your location.
yeah we need to add her.
You mean Cardi B 🐀
I'm all about those big princess sleeves, I had some Disney pictures in the inspo boards for my own dress 😅😅
I think it's a cute dress actually not the best but cute
In my opinion Black chocker is more stylish than pearls
agreed. pearls are actually an old timer accessory.
I simply love how Giselle's dress looks like a larger than life animated princess getup even when seen in live action.
i love vanessas copy of ariels kiss the girl dress. that style is one of my favorites, especially in animation. i also love auroras dress in the beginning of sleeping beauty
TIMELESS!
What a fun video! I haven’t finished yet but I always loved Giselle’s over the top look. Excited to see more dresses I never looked at that closely!
I would love to see a video on all the different versions of Cinderella’s dresses. The Rogers and Hammerstein film, Ever After, the Hillary Duff one, etc. Rank them!
we actually do have an old video ranking cinderella ballgowns! th-cam.com/video/_zsd4gqe8tY/w-d-xo.html
A romcom ranking would be lovely. Also, congratulations on your engagement!
I actually ADORE Maid Marian’s costumes. She looks so lovely :)
Congratulations on the engagement! Would love to see ur future wedding dress!
My favorite dress is definitely Giselle's. Idk why but I've always loved big, poofy dresses like hers😂
Congratulations on the engagement!❤🎉 I hope you have a wonderful wedding!👏😊
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding !!!!🎉
I'm looking forward to the wedding based videos.
First of all, congrats on your engagement! I hope finding your wedding dress and all of the other planning goes smoothly for you. My favorite wedding dress is Cinderella's. I love the simplicity and the clean, cut lines. She looks timeless in it.
Always been a fan of Cinderella's wedding dress from the first movie. So pretty ❤
This was such a fun video, thanks for making it! I like how you made the cultural connections with bridal fashions from the decades each movie came out.
Love how much research you put into this! Such an interesting exploration!!
Romcom wedding dresses would be so fun!!!
Since there were so many dresses that took inspiration from royal weddings, it would be fun to see a ranking of royal wedding dresses! 😍 Like your top 15 or something since obviously there’s so many 😄
congratulations!! wishing you a lovely marriage
i hope we see Anna in a wedding dress at some point, it would feel like a missed opportunity if they don't do it
Won't be surprised if that's how frozen 3 ends
Congrats on the wedding Tessa! I hope the wedding goes well!
Love this and Congratulations! From a fellow 2025 bride, YES YES YES PLEASE to the romcom wedding dress comparison!
I think Anita and Roger had a vow- exchange- quick Church wedding, without much fervour. So maybe thats why the dress wasn't white.
Every time I watch one of your ranking/analysis videos, it's all no thoughts, head empty, only 🤩💖✨*Dresses* ✨💖🤩
Thanks for always captivating me ♥
I agree with your critique and also loved the historically references that inspired the dresses. That was really interesting. Loved this!!
I love Maid Marian's dress the most because it's my all-time favourite Disney movie. Since childhood I dream of a camp in Sherwood forest ❤
Fru Fru is a Legend!
The reason Frufru's dress is so simple compared to the more gaudy pink one that's giving "big fat American Gypsy wedding" is because it's her mother's dress that her cousin kept and gave to her.
My favorite are Cinderella, Tiana, Rapunzel, Giselle, Nancy, Ariel,Fru Fru ,and Pepa.I like their style and how they look on it ☺️☺️☺️👌🏻
One little note: Cinderella’s wedding dress has a continuity error.
