Amanda Bynes still looked very much like a girl even when she was playing a guy. Look, because a woman wears short hair and scrubs off the makeup, she isn't automatically going to look masculine. *eye roll*
Seriously, the trans community should be grateful that its actually being shed upon instead of ignored. Yeah maybe they should add real trans people but what they're doing now is good enough, its better than not doing anything. Stop expecting so much, let time do its job and eventually, over time, they will cast real trans people but for now, stop criticizing and just be happy these movies are being made.
@@unicornbetch7332 wow, thats a heartless thing to say coming from a human. We all get opinions. Your acting as though i dont support the trans community, i definitely do. If you could read properly, maybe you'd know that. It's the fact that, when the trans movies are being made, everyone bitches and moans that it doesn't actually cast a trans person instead of seeing it from a good point of view. And that good point of view is that trans people are actually being recognised instead of being ignored. It's better than nothing, would it be better for you if trans people weren't recognised? And its only the beginning, how long has it been since the lgbtq+ community has been accepted? Not that long. You expect everything to go from 0 to 100 in seconds. When it takes actual human time.

I hate that. I hate that Trans people like myself are so against a Cist playing our roles. Do you know how honored I feel for these legends to have taken the Role. Most people won't. Seeing El fanning as a man was great. Seeing Jared letto as a woman. God legendary. They aren't mocking us or trying to make us look bad. They are bringing attention to the matter.
Jessica Lange won best supporting actress and not best actress for Tootsie. You also forgot Nathan Lane in Birdcage, Felicity Huffman in Transamerica, Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs & Cate Blanchett in I’m Not Here
For the people who say that if they aren't transgender they shouldn't play a transgender, then if the character is hetero, shouldn't be play by a non-hetero actor. It is a nonsense for the sake of feeling offensive about something.
The problem, in my opinion, is that trans people are so very rarely cast in anything. Yes -- performances like Eddie Redmayne's in The Danish Girl are stellar and I wouldn't change the actors. But I do think that there's a pattern of casting cis people for trans roles, a pattern that doesn't have to be there. It's like the Bechdel test: having two female characters interact and speak about something other than a man doesn't necessarily make the film good, but it does do something for better representation of women. The same could be said about trans roles and actors.
Male or Female if an actor is good why should it matter what gender or sexuality the part is. If the movie/acting is good does it really matter. People will always find something to complain about even if there is nothing there. As long as they aren't making fun of any gender or sexuality it should be fine.
Acting is a profession. In Sense8, Jamie Clayton did a fabulous job in her role. She was quite fascinating and I've seen her in other roles as well. But the question of whether or not transgender roles could be played better by transgender actors is only relative if the only essential acting element of the character is gender or gender identity. But when you start building a character around a theme and you include friends, family, co-workers, protagonists, antagonists and the REST of the content/context of acting, can the full list of transgender actors touch the superstars that played those roles with great box office results? Think of it another way. I'm a retired electrician. My father-in-law and I were a father-son operation. We specialized in home renovation electrical work. One day we started a job for a gay couple. I didn't think anything of it, until the next job, we did work for a lesbian couple. For six months all our jobs came from the LGBTQ community. Someone we worked for must have really appreciated our work ethic, fair pricing, etc or perhaps just our jovial sense of fun when we work and put us on some kind of "trusted services" list. Thank you by the way for that. So, asking the question of whether a transgender person could act out a role of a transgender character better than a cisgender person, isn't about gender, it is about acting. I do believe that transgender method actors of any talent would nail the transgender part of a transgender character, but there are many more elements to any role than the gender of the character. Does the lesbian couple only hire lesbian electricians? I wouldn't judge them if they did - we all have our comfort zones and beliefs and needs. I think at the end of the day most humans want the best service for their money, whether it is the installation of a ceiling fan in the bedroom or a box-office hit at the theater. My final thought is, we'll get there. I was a teen and young adult in the 80s. Gender Fluid and non-Binary sexual identity wasn't even a concept, let alone a cultural expression. As transgender actors become more well-known like Jaime Clayton, that should inspire all the other transgender actors to try that much harder to make it in showbiz, which is a hard world for any actor by all accounts. I think many transgender actors might have the potential to get more jobs than most cisgender actors if they were willing to play either gender. If that is somehow insulting, that was not my intent, but in Hollywood if you want to "arrive", then use all your gifts and talents to get there. I don't pretend to have all the answers, nor can I appreciate all the different types of unique identities that any human chooses, but what I do appreciate is that underneath all the labels and group identities there are just a sea of humans wanting, needing and working to create the life that is most valued by them. Perhaps someday we can all be whatever we are without all the drama and discord of differences and a desire to be unique.
I think the issues with non lgbt+ people playing lgbt+ characters is one of two things. Firstly there aren't nearly enough lgbt+ roles in films yet to correctly represent how vast the community is/how many people are part of the lgbt+ community, therefore the roles are harder to come by and obtain for any actor who isn't an A-lister. Secondly, we've seen it done over and over with minority roles where 10 people could audition for a part, 9 of them identifying the same as the character, yet still that one actor who isn't gay or trans will get the role because that's what the director finds comfortable to deal with. It's the same with any minority group really, take for example deaf actors and deaf roles. Many deaf actors won't get the part of a deaf character because the people making the film don't know how to direct someone who's deaf. It's incredibly hypocritical and insensitive, to say "we want to make a movie from the perspective of a deaf person to rid the stigma" then turn around and say "but we don't want any actual deaf actors because that's too hard" causing the stigma they are supposedly trying to get rid of.
Listen, I've been dreaming of being an actress but doing male roles, but it is impossible unless you get lucky (or unlucky, depending on what you want) and get one of these parts
Chris Lilley is one of the best Australian actors who plays ja'mie, mr g, jonah and many more. Not to mention he just came out with the new Netflix tv show lunatics so where is his honourable mention
People should be thankful for these actors doing a great job in a trans role, and stop complaining, is already ridiculous, if trans actors would be so good they would've been casted instead.
They're not being cast because they're trans. Hollywood doesn't want trans ppl. Ppl don't want trans actors to be in movies. There's a reason why trans ppl want more rights.
I give zero ducks about whether actors who play transgender characters are actually transgender. All I care about is that they respect the LGBT community!
I am here wondering why Eddie Murphy playing multiple roles of women and men in Nutty Professor isn't included in the list. Or why Tyler Perry in Madea? What about Martin Lawrence in Big Momma's House? to mention a few.
Think really hard and you can't figure out why they didn't mention those 3 people. i am not trying to be rude to you with the comment so don't take it that way.
I think all that "cisgender playing transgender" is bullshit. Some people just want to fight over stupid things. We all should be grateful transgender is portrayed by such talended artists. period.
Missed Joyce Hyser (just one of the guys). but also i loved boys dont cry, cause it made me cry ngl. i dont think that its wrong for a cis actor to play a trans role, because honestly, if a person fits a character, then they should be cast, maybe there was real trans people trying out for roles, but their acting standard wasnt great or they didnt fit the role. like hilary swank played Brandon amazingly and she was portraying a real life character, meaning the person cast, had to resemble and be able to play the real Brandon Teena.

@@CineShinya No problem, I mean you make a lot of sense and should not be attacked for having a different opinion. Yeah, I feel like a lot of good movies are actually ruined by forced representation. I mean, when I watch a movie I watch it because of the movie and not to judge if there is enough representation in it. Acting is acting and I feel like instead of being put down by the community, these actors deserve some credit for their take on these difficult roles and how they managed to bring them to life.
I'm glad because it really shouldn't matter. If the actor is capable he's capable, regardless of their sexuality or gender etc. (;
@@LacriMosa I couldn't agree more. Focusing to the wrong things makes us lose what really matters on a film.
Psssshhhtt.. These are facts! LGBTQ's dont like it.
Boys don't cry. Best performance I have ever seen.
I agree
Forgot Tilda Swinton in "Orlando," no, as well as Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan?
"what and awful wig"
Are u serious 🤦♀️
y’all forgot Eddie Murphy in Norbit and Big Momma or Tyler Perry as Madea
Let's pull out the race card here. They did not forget shit. They made a decision to use almost all white actors and actresses
Do you know what I wanna see ? I want to see a transperson play a cis-person. That would be groundbreaking.
It´s like why shouldn´t a openly gay or lesbian actor play a straight person ? They´re actors, right ?
You know there's Sheldon Cooper in TBBT or Barney in How I met Your mother or even Aaron in Mean Girls. All straight roles played by gay actors. Acting is acting, no matter if there's a gay or trans person playing a straight role or the other way around. Why are people so focused on that?
There are a lot of movies/series with gay men(mostly) playing straight people
Lacri Mosa yea but a trans person not a gay or lesbian.
White chicks 2 would be amazing!
I instantly fell in love with jolie's Salt male self. She's gorgeous
I LOVE the movie The Danish Girl
Amazing movie!!
Tyler Perry......Martin Lawrence....Eddie Murphy? 🤷🏾♂️I mean they did give us Madea, Big Momma, and Shenehneh. How can you even forget about Rasuptia “How You Doin!”
We only talking bout whites nd trans
Tilda Swinton, Lee Pace and how can you not know about Sarah Snooks in Predestination?!
JJ Totah plays dudes so well and you can't notice a difference
She is transgender and use to be a boy
I feel all of these were simply outstanding performances given by truly outstanding actors. Brava to each and every one of them.
Who else is only here for Eddie? Such an amazing, talented, underrated actor! 💕💕
Me
Mrs doubtfire character was a Scottish lady not English. Dustin Hoffman should have won that award & not Jessica lang, I love tootsie Dustin was awesome. Love the character Patrick swayze played too.👌😎
Any how you put it , still British
@@sonofgod2656 true, but still Mrs doubtfire wasn't English.
Finally someone commented on this.
@@sonofgod2656 yeah dickhead but she said English.
Oh my god I LOVED the Danish girl I just watched it a couple days ago and it was amazing
Breakfast on Pluto is a wonderful cult classic. You have to appreciate the humor to enjoy it though.
And Divine the drag queen was the best genderbend role on hair spary(the 1980s film)played Edna Termblad
True acting chops are all they need to play any role, any gender.

isabel juarez there’s going to be a maleficent 2????
@@antoniax2102 Yes this year or next year I forgot😃
Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria wasn't even worth an honorable mention??
That's sad, you REALLY missed something there!
I am close friends with several people who are trans and I have talked to them about how they feel about cis actors playing trans people and they say they don’t mind as long as the portrayal isn’t offensive
Amanda Bynes still looked very much like a girl even when she was playing a guy. Look, because a woman wears short hair and scrubs off the makeup, she isn't automatically going to look masculine. *eye roll*
Okay we know Ms. Doubtfire.
Roger Taylor: HOLD MY STICKS

Seriously, the trans community should be grateful that its actually being shed upon instead of ignored. Yeah maybe they should add real trans people but what they're doing now is good enough, its better than not doing anything. Stop expecting so much, let time do its job and eventually, over time, they will cast real trans people but for now, stop criticizing and just be happy these movies are being made.
Oh STFU lmao
@@unicornbetch7332 I live in reality clearly unlike you. Be grateful
@@racyk8579 You're Cis you don't get an opinion.
Let me just say this, *THEY ARE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES, THE KEY WORD THATS IN THERE IS ACT. THEY ARE NOT ONLY SHEDDING LIGHT ON YOUR COMMUNITY, BUT THEY ARE TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO SEE IT FROM YOUR ALLS PERSPECTIVE. STOP BACKSLASHING THEM, ITS NOT CAUSING ANY HARM.* Okay, thank you.
*Edit:* This is for those in the LGBT community who saw wrong in something good.
“Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar” is one of the greatest movies EVER!

I was totally expecting to see madea and big momma in here, like why weren't these mentioned

I've never seen the movie but STILLLL LIKE WHAT??!!!!?!!?
You neeeeeed to watch it lol! So good and she does for a reason.
Omg straight away...robin Williams played a SCOTTISH lady 😂
What about Tilda Swinton in Orlando?
8:41 I AGREE I LOVE JESSICA LANGE SO MUCH
You forgot Big Mama and Norbit
I still love Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria! If you haven't seen it, you should watch it!
Yeah no, lol go back to middle school
Madea/Tyler Perry should have been number one !
What is with Lee Pace in Soldier's girl?
Those wigs weren’t that bad.
Mrs. Doubtfire is Scottish. Not English. That's such a big mistake I'm kinda surprised you got it so wrong.
Actually when asked about her accent she said she came from all over the United Kingdom
3 generations is on Netflix and its SOOOO GOOOD
Male or Female if an actor is good why should it matter what gender or sexuality the part is. If the movie/acting is good does it really matter. People will always find something to complain about even if there is nothing there. As long as they aren't making fun of any gender or sexuality it should be fine.
To be honest, that wig wasn't bad at all. But what do l know?
Daria Marinescu right?! It’s what most teenage boys hair looks like honestly

Lee Pace on Soldier's Girl was AMAZING!
What about Soldier's Girl with Lee Pace? He was awesome
Listen, I've been dreaming of being an actress but doing male roles, but it is impossible unless you get lucky (or unlucky, depending on what you want) and get one of these parts
Jared Leto, Cillian Murphy and Jefferey Tambor all played trans women
ENGLISH LADY?! NOPE! Wrong country 🙈
Chris Lilley is one of the best Australian actors who plays ja'mie, mr g, jonah and many more. Not to mention he just came out with the new Netflix tv show lunatics so where is his honourable mention
No mention of Crying Game?!
I think anyone can play any role no matter the gender. I think its good to be that versatile
Any actor should be allowed to play any role so long as they can play the role better than anyone else
No mention of Lee Pace’s amazing performance in Solider’s Girl??? What!?
What I thought hair spray was a lady 😂
hillary swank-shes so handsome and eddy redmayne-hes so beautiful.
guys!!! Glenn Close at Albert Nobbs... she was memorable in that role
I will ALWAYS love White Chicks!!!! It is a classic!
Ugh Tom Cruise was supposed to play salt? Thank goodness Angelina Jolie played it. We've had enough of that mediocre old dude in action film.
but u dont have to be this salty to the dude
@@Masterobe so what are trying to do?
Mrs. Doubtfire was Scottish!
ALRIGHTY,where madea at??
Lee Pace should be in this list.. he was fenomenal as a woman...
I think all that "cisgender playing transgender" is bullshit. Some people just want to fight over stupid things.
We all should be grateful transgender is portrayed by such talended artists. period.
Ok we forgot a few huh? How about Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs (which by the way was my fav) and Lee Pace in Soldier's Girl?
they forgot to mention about big mommas house!!😜🤣
I think it's AWESOME that these actors did this.SERIOUSLY!!!!;):)
