  • Hi everyone! This is my first reaction video. Since we're in lockdown, I thought why not doing these kind of videos?
    I have been listening to NW since I was a teenager and also following Floor Jansen''s career since she was in After Forever (L)

    This a tribute to Eugene Shoemaker.. Some of Eugene Shoemaker's ashes after he died were taken to the moon to be laid to rest in the Shoemaker crater at the moons southern pole. He's the only human so far to have been laid to rest on a celestial body other than Earth.. On the box his ashes traveled to the moon in was engraved that quote from Romeo and Juliet..

    Ah young lady, the song is about Eugene Shoemaker an astronomer. He along with a young man discovered the Comet that struck Jupiter in the 1990's. It broke into 9 pieces before it hit and each impact was larger then the earth. They lasted for weeks, he died in1997'? his ashes were sent to the moon. He is the only human to be laid to rest on the moon! The song is about him and that event!

    This is about Eugene Shoemaker, Father of Planetary Science who was scheduled to go to the moon on an Apollo mission but discovered to have Addison’s Disease so couldn’t go. It was his greatest disappointment. He was later killed in a car accident, but they sent his ashes to the moon on a lunar probe and are buried in a a crater named after him. So he is, as of now, the only human whose ashes are on the moon. The poem part was inscribed on his urn. The spoken part is Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife.

    Great reaction PlanetaM. Eugene "Gene" Shoemaker was one of the 20th century's great minds. His work on impact craters affected everything from NASA's Apollo missions to the dinosaur extinction debate. For his contributions to human knowledge, he was awarded the National Medal of Science by then-president George H.W. Bush in 1992.
    A different honor eluded him. Shoemaker studied the moon from afar, but he often dreamed of climbing into a spacesuit and walking on its surface. Sadly, he never got the chance; Addison's disease crushed his hopes of becoming an astronaut. On July 18, 1997, the couple was involved in a tragic car accident. Though Carolyn, his wife survived, Eugene was killed.
    The very next day, Shoemaker's former student Carolyn Porco devised a fitting tribute. A planetary scientist at the University of Arizona, Porco learned that her mentor was going to be cremated. So she spearheaded an effort to put 1 ounce (28 grams) of his ashes aboard NASA's Lunar Prospector Spacecraft.
    A polycarbonate urn capsule was built by Celestis, the same company that sent the ashes of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry into orbit. Wrapped around Shoemaker's capsule was brass foil ribbon bearing a picture of the Barringer Crater and a star-themed quote from "Romeo & Juliet."
    With the precious cargo in tow, the spacecraft launched out of Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Jan. 6, 1998. More than a year later, the vessel (whose objective had been to hunt for water) was deliberately crashed near the lunar south pole. Shoemaker's ashes went down with it near the moon's southern pole. That made him the first - and to date, the only - person to ever receive a lunar burial.

    This is a tribute to astrogeologist Eugene Shoemaker. The operatic ending "LaudatoSi" can be interpreted as refers to Francis of Assisi's or Pope Francis's writings by the same title. Great emotional reaction. Thank you and Greetings from Finland.

    • @wezselecta9929
      @wezselecta9929 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm confused - I thought Nightwish were dedicated to an anti- religious atheist message. Why would they use such references?

    • @pekkakarppinen1608
      @pekkakarppinen1608 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Wez Selecta. Many atheists have deep knowledge of history of religions and their main themes (know your enemy, you know). Some of them are genuinely searching some answers about the mysteries of the world and life. Pope Francis's 2015 published "Laudato Si" writing ia very well known because it contains heavily environmental, capitalism, consumerism and other actual themes, which have acknowledged by much broader audience than the religious ones. Go and check Friar Guylian Prince's interpretation of this song (you heard it right. Fransiscan friar analyzes Nighwish lyrics there!).

      @@pekkakarppinen1608 Hi and thank you for the input, nice to have a finnish viewer! What you mentioned is true, the fact that most metal bands don't identify with religion, doesn't mean they are not aware of history and the influence (lets say negative lol) of it on the development of our society.

    • @pekkakarppinen1608
      @pekkakarppinen1608 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For your first reaction you picked a great song and did very well. With Nightwish and their Army this may become addictive; we hope so. Their live concert videos are fantastic due to their stage presence(especially Floor) and production quality is awesome. Consider videos from concerts in Wacken 2013, Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018 all of which are great. New subscriber and looking forward to joining you on your Nightwish reaction journey.
