Just bought a Jan (24) pre reg Renault Megane E-Tech Iconic (top spec). Five months old from a Renault group dealer. List £39.999 now £25.500! Nothing in the C sector beats a Megane E-tech, it is that good. Renault have really got this EV spot on. Nothing annoys and the Google dashboard is simply the best. Finally, driving a EV makes sense...!

I've had nothing but problems with my ZS EV - faux leather cracking and tearing (outside of the 1-year upholstery warranty) head unit freezing and restarting during journeys (despite continuous updates), wing mirrors seizing up and the reversing camera misting up (both of which the showroom blamed me for).
I may be an outlier, but it's royally put me off the brand

Think I’m going with Model Y in a couple of months. What I have noticed is that if going down finance route don’t just go from lowest list price as the rate may be higher and sometimes mean you pay more overall than a more expensive list price with more attractive rates.

Here in Holland we don't get the sort of deals you seem to get in the UK but it was a pretty good price for a high spec car and cheaper than new, even though new cars were being sold with end-of-year discounts.
The alternative for me was an inventory Model Y, which worked out a few thousand more expensive, had harsher suspension and disappointing customer support. (Tesla messed me about when I was trying to spend money, what would they be like if I bought the car and then had problems?)

Well done on highlighting some of the choices facing the consumer. I'd like to share my thinking as an Ev is still a calculated risk. A year ago, I got a used Renault zoe on a two year pcp. The Zoe has proven technology for 12 years of production and the batteries are not a particular worry. The car is ultra cheap to run but what was a second car became the first choice for journeys up to 120 to 150 miles a day. I have only once used public charging. As I already have home charging, I am considering a larger second car, probably the EC4 Citroen pre reg or two years old. In a year's time the C4 could replace the Zoe or I could get another Zoe cheaper than the Pcp price. This buys me a year to consider whether charging in public appeals to me on 12 long journeys a year. TH-cam and newspapers love EV scare stories and have clearly damaged sales. Someone will go bust, either legacy autos or this likes of MG. Opinions welcome.

Back in 05 we brought a new Citroën pecaso, we hadn't planned to buy new but by the time we left after 4 coffees the dealer gave in and we got it cheaper than the pre regs and demo car's, that was back in the day. It was the worst car we ever had so it was a lesson learnt. When they start discounting the new cars by a considerable amount it makes people think the second hand value is going to plumit, I'm looking to change my car I have now but as I can't charge at home or at work I would have to rely on public chargers and with that the sums don't add up against a petrol or diesel, with libour getting in it looks like they want to hammer the cars and sadly I think evs are going to cop it first because of pay per mile and congestion charge and ved, ice cars already pay tax per mile as in fuel duty but they need to find ways to put a fuel duty on the electric and if you have solar and home battery then technically you drive for free, if they do start bringing in charges in line with ice then I think many people will dump the ev.

I have often found going into the dealers at the rigt time and being prepared to walk away, I could buy a brand new car cheaper than a 1 year old model. Many car brands have majorly over priced their EV's and £10,000 above their equivalent ICE version. Second hand prices seem to reflect more where they should have been priced. So yes some great bargains.
Unfortunately I test drove the Model 3 Highland and I was mage impreseed so wanted that one. Only option was new. But for a second car there are so many options under £20,000 which is great to see.

My present car, a 2011 Smart diesel has 1983 miles on the clock, it was 5 months old, it's now covered over 152000 miles, never missed a beat, I would love an electric vehicle but to get a vehicle that I could run for a week before topping up, I would have to buy a much bigger car and obviously it would carry a much bigger price tag, I don't have access to off road parking and at present there's still only one working charge point in the town where I live, as someone who works an average 15 hour shift and travels up and down the motorway on a daily basis, my daily commute is 60 miles, as much as I like the look of the Corsa or Fiat 500, not that I could ever afford to buy one, but if I could, they wouldn't manage my weekly commute without the need to charge, so I would be looking towards the £30000+ mark for something like an Ioniq 5 or an EV6, (I didn't even pay that much for my house and that's appreciating whereas a car is depreciating), the initial purchase price is way out of my league and the infrastructure is still a long way off, I recently bought a mild hybrid, I was looking for a Toyota Yaris hybrid but one garage contacted me a week after I initially enquired about the car, 7 weeks on and the car isn't ready to be seen yet (???), I still haven't seen or heard from the garage, the other one i looked at was way overpriced and not very impressive, so for less than half of my initial budget I found a tidy 2010 Honda Jazz hybrid with 70000 on the clock, I pick it up this week, it drives lovely, everything works as it should do, I probably paid a bit over the top, but I can take it into most major cities without having to pay the clean air taxes, its self charging so I don't need to find a credit card to pay for electricity, I can still pay cash for fuel, even though i objct to the extortionate cost of fuel, as someone who is not considered credit worthy, I can't get an electric vehicle unless I could charge at home, not use the vehicle for long journeys and I'd have to be able to afford to buy the vehicle outright with cash, none of which is possible

Do you know the definition of a pre-reg vehicle?
It is not one with "a few thousand miles".
Nearly new is what you are showing here, not pre-reg.
Anyone who has worked in a dealership knows the difference and the reasons why dealerships do it.

Isn't it time to admit that Hyundai Group sets the EV benchmark due to the Tesla brand 'backing out' for the last few years ?.
Tesla is discounting because orders for the ageing lineup are in decline........and the factory output is excessive.

No wonder these are so cheap though. Demand is zero they are ugly and nobody trusts their reliability from these low end brands. The high end of the EV market doesn’t have good reliability either so what chance does this lot have. Tesla and maybe bmw are the only two brands that have reliability. Stelantis is a shit show company.
