It amazes me how people can afford a new car. Even with these discounted examples, prices are just bonkers 😜
I used to have a client with £7m of watches in his house. To some these cars are nothing, that’s the way of the world eh.
They can’t in most cases they borrow from their future
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruthat’s a crass assessment. Cars are for the masses not 7 million watch owners
Yours is a very naive assessment - not every car is for the masses.
I do wonder if these RRP’s are set artificially high so as to allow these huge discounts in an attempt to kid the gullible amongst us that they are getting a great deal. New car prices are ridiculous and beyond affordability for the vast majority. Probably why most new cars are purchased on the “Never Never”
Not sure most of these price reductions should be classed as ‘discounts’. The RRP costs are ridiculous, £40000 for an Astra 🤯
Still, it is what it is
Easy to forget just how recently people were waiting 6+ months for a new car with no discount, and a lot of (not all) dealers were acting like they were doing you a favour taking your money.
Some still are to be fair
A Jeep Cherokee for £63k even with £17k off you’d have to me MAD to buy it…. It’ll drop in value like a stone even at the reduced price. If a car sales exec can get a UK person to buy this they deserve any bonus coming their way. Shocking price
👌
63k for a car that will lose most of its value in 5 years….and then people complain that house prices are expensive???
Nice to see great discounts... Always brilliant to see what i still cannot afford. 😂
Same here 😁
Same here ! 😂
Another really good presentation Jim. Half of the cars I could not afford, but you gave a good description of all of them, so thank you.
Thank you 🙏
The discounts are approaching realistic prices but shows how bonkers things are in general.
i still think car compnaies and dealers are trying to claw back money due to covid
👍👍
One thing to keep in mind is the £40,000 luxury car tax for the first 5 years. Extra £410 a year :/
Probably not an issue if you can afford a £100k car to be fair but yes of course
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru It's about time they increased the ceiling for paying the luxury car tax as now even ordinary cars are well north of £40,000.
@@pillred5974 They need more tax revenue not less.
@@pillred5974I had this with a hybrid Audi A3 - not exactly a luxury car, but the list price was a smidge over 40k. I walked away because of the tax burden.
100% - £40K is a pretty average new car these days, the whole luxury car tax thing is just yet another cash grab by the state.
The Porsche Taycan is a great example of how to get stitched up.. my son knows someone who had a £60k hit after one year of ownership.............. buy used and you dont get abused.
Lease new, buy used. Works out well for a lot of cars.
I’m an M Sport BMW nut, have driven them for years. But, I have to say BMW have lost the plot on their pricing of late, it seems they’ve jacked their prices by at least 30% more than their competitors.
I’m sorry, but I’m not paying £80k for an updated version of a car I’ve paid £55k for only a couple of years ago. Hate to say it but I might have to look at Mercedes….
It’s not just BMW to be fair, new car pricing has gone a similar way to food In recent years, I.e. up.
Or Tesla
Buy a Tata for 10k
I agree. X5 was around £55k pre covid and now around £80k. But you’ll still get money off where I believe Merc aren’t discounting.
Great video. I think you just need to shop around. I bought a bmw 760e brand new with ultimate pack and individual seats. Got approx £20k off it. Also a 340d with £10k off and a vw touerag 3.0 diesel black edition new with £12k off. So it think sometimes it depends on the day when you phone them and just make an offer. If they take it great , if not there’s always another dealer.
I’d wait until mid December where they’ll do a deal if you can wait. . I bought two cars in December where I got stupendous deals.
👍👍👍
Hi mate I was going to trade my golf in for 9k and also paid £250 deposit to a VW dealer for a brand new T cross after a couple of days I found out I could get 12.700k for my car I cancelled the order well within the 14 day cooling off period and the dealer kept the £250 deposit is that legal thanks
I guess so as a deposit is generally non refundable. You’d have to check the agreement.
Was waiting for you to mention those M8s. They have real problems shifting them. I’ve been watching the prices for 12 months and they were offering 20-30k off them this entire time
👍
Rrp means NOWT!
Who in their right mind is going to pay 29k for an Astra, let alone nearly 40k---for an Astra😱😱😱??
Not me
Oddly, Ford Focus prices start at £28k........
And let’s not forget the hefty tax on vehicles with rrp £40k.
ok 👍
Great video with over 70k views, well done. Great deals for those who want to buy new.
Thanks 👍
£41K for an Astra, seriously who can afford these cars?
I wouldn’t but a £41k Astra if I had £41k.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruit’s not about the list price anymore. It’s about the monthly’s
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruif you did drop £41k on a new Astra you’d be sectioned.
An Astra that is in the luxury car tax band, total joke!
Prices on these cars are still eye wateringly expensive. Would I pay £500+ a month for the majority of these or take a 3 year old Tesla model 3 for £300 a month and £2k down mmm..... 🤔
👌
7 years ago.A Range Rover sport was 50k new and now 97k and it’s the same across all brands 😂
They put their prices up because of manufacturing costs and inflation but let’s be really honest.
They took advantage during covid but also because of cheap cheap finance and now those days are behind us,people are struggling with rising energy cost/mortgages and massive increases in credit card rates.
The car industry is suffering more than most industries because they took advantage and got very very greedy
👍
Have watched a few of your videos now... really, really well pitched and researched content. Your channel deserves to grow... keep going!
Thanks a ton! 👍
Hi,
With these prices, would you still be paying a higher rate of tax if the RRP is over £40k? Or does it depend on the list price, mentioned in the video?
Cheers
you would
Happy Days are here again. About time.
👍
Stellantis products now beginning to be correctly priced so not really discounted.
I get your point to a degree (Stellantis vehicles being overpriced) but what we have here are discounts, big discounts.
Changed my car earlier this year, I had looked at a Cupra Formentor, but they’d come out below Range Rover in a reliability survey, so crossed it off my list. Ended up getting an Octavia VRS, ex-demonstrator with just 1,500 on the clock. RRP £34K, got it for £26K and very happy.
👌
what about the MG ZS trophy, 51.1 KW list price is £32995, yours brand new for £19995, that's a discount of £13,000 or 40%
👍
Be aware with the Taycan Sport Turismo - I know it is a fantastic deal but an updated version that is even better has just been launched and that looks like the pre-facelift car which does have a few issues with reliability and insuring them can be a nightmare. Also extra cost options is all important with them. A friend of mine has one and it has been in the dealer’s workshop more times than my 2020 Defender was and to add insult to injury the Porsche dealers don’t want it in as part exchanges either………….. and he has owned loads of Porsches from that dealership.
👍 that's a modern Porsche trait I'm afraid, my Mate's 2023 Cayman GTS has been to the dealer more times than I've been to the fridge
That's not the Macmaster is it by any chance?
There is a reason why Porsche stock price has dropped 56% this year....
if it we're he'd have done 100 videos about how much he hates his biggest earner.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru It's shocking though how much his car has dropped in price.
New car prices are just bonkers now. How people afford them I don't know.
👌
@@shauntoole1553 finance is your answer, it will all come crashing down I'm 😟
@@shauntoole1553 most new car sales are now fleet/salary sacrifice. If you are fortunate enough to be earning say 115k, you can save 62% on the monthlys
Thanks Jimbo some crazy discounts there I'm getting the feeling if you pay anything near list for a new car you must have more money than sense👍👍
Still plenty of cars going for list but there’s so much competition out there now in the new and used markets
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru also the amount of companies not hitting their EV mandate percentages ( this weeks autocar) especially Jaguar/Land Rover
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru and I think the lease market as well cheaper as you proved than manufacturer backed deals
@@DavidBoreham-kk9dx yes Dave, worrying times for those folks I’m sure.
No way you’re going to buy any of those bmw unless you’re able to right it off against tax. The market is mad
👌
Wow Jim. There is some savings there.
👍👍
If these dealers can discount so much have they just been profiteering all these years .
Yep
Bear in mind that an ex demonstrator is not technically classed as a new car and therefore does not attract VAT. That’s 20% off the price already. if you are not getting at least 20% off list they are conning you.
Pre-reg is not ex-demo and not all of these are pre-reg but I get your point
Ex-demonstrators/Pre-Reg cars are VAT qualifying, the first owner is a business and therefore VAT isn't paid, the same is true on ex business lease vehicles, so used cars can be VATable.
Just got this place
Brilliant video how the public are gettn ripped of then they moan not making money . Dealers should struggle bout time they wised up and help people . But love the video
👍👍
Over the years I have been so used to trading in and buying new every 3,4,5 years with a 10k to 12k personal loan over 3 years at a monthly of £300+ to make up the difference and to actually own the car at the end. Which is a figure that was doable for the average Joe. I just can't get my head around the prices nowadays. Hence I have kept my 2016 Disco 4 for 8 years this year...which is dangerous. I refuse to pay a small mortgage on PCP not to actually own the car at the end of 3 years. Manufacturers can make all the excuses they want but it's all BS in my opinion. They are trying to cash in and it's not working. 👍
👌
Hi Great video and information but I think you should include the cars that cost over £40,000 when new pay an additional £410 annually for five years starting. Like the Vauxhall at 40,775. This is £2k over 5 years.
No idea what you’re talking about to be honest, sorry
Road tax, rodney@@DefinitelyNotAGuru
OK, the tax. I've done videos on the tax - if i repeat myself too much people will complain about that but it’s of course valid
Cash grabbing car manufacturers, new prices are ridiculous & unsustainable, hence the whacky discounts happening….
👍
Question is, why have they dropped in price. Did no one want it? Whats wrong with it?
Original pricing way too high in most of these cases
Don’t get me wrong I love cars, but there’s no way I’m paying these sorts of figures even if I could buy them outright. The depreciation is insane, but as I live by the motto live and let live, each to their own as they say!
ok
There’s some good deals if you look around depends on what you want & how far you’re prepared to travel
👍
Had an email from the nearest Honda dealers three weeks ago offering 10K off the price of one of those e:Ny1 cars. Shame it's just not a good car.
👍
Funny how the £40k Car Tax TAX level does not rise with inflation etc! Was £40k ....remains at £40k !!! Trapping more and more owners.
Video coming on this at 5pm
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Good timed post eh! 🤪
If anyone deserves 50K subscribers it is you. Another good video with some incredible discounts. Now if only I could persuade my wife to swap her Ateca for the Formentor. 🙂
Wow, thank you! Formentor is very nice 🔥
car market is on its ass, about time after covid. New car registrations are a joke nowadays they all go on lease deals. its a fallacy
Great for the consumer
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru all artificial keeps prices high, only good for the car companies, they dont even let consumers go to a lot of auctions nowadays. its a rip off should be investigated
Real credibility secured by , as here , saying that a particular vehicle is unattractive. Likewise, explaining that X is a VW under the skin. Not everyone knows these things. It might help to slow down a little to mention extras like winter model and panoramic roof which can make a big difference. You have a good narrative; just add a little more detail perhaps when justified.
I didn’t ask for a critique but thanks. Maybe my style is just not for you 👍
Agree that the Kona is a better car than the Honda e:ny1 But ive just ordered the honda for the wife on a 3 year PCP with 0 deposit 0% finance £8000 dealer deposit £3500 honda deposit 5 year sevice and warranty pack £266 per month you cant get in the Hyundai for that kind of money.
👌
Best I’ve heard is £173 a month on PCP with nothing down. This deal was a few months back though and the lower spec trim.
@@disarchitected think that was the march offer
@@disarchitected that deal was the march offer
Great video as always Jim. Many thanks and take care 👍
Thanks Jason 👍
Price correction over priced in the first place don’t buy brand new to much VAT and depreciation 😢
Lease new, buy used
Alot of these cars the rrp's where well out, especially the jeeps. Stalantis are in trouble with cars piling up not selling
It’s still the RRP
Just saw the new Peugeot 3008 -‘and I know it’s got a wet belt…’. I am sure I’d read that the new ones had been redesigned with a chain??
👍
Wow why would anybody want to buy electric especially with only 35 mile range ! Crazy. I’m sure these prices are just a hint of things to come.
it's a hybrid mate
Because 35 miles of electric range will comfortably take car of the typical average UK daily commute of 20.8 miles. And remember, it still has an engine......
I can afford them but I’m not going to , that’s how I got the money in the first place .
Ok, thanks for letting us know 👀
Remember you can't take it with you, and despite what the religious lot says this is it.
Pre-reg Golf GTE's with over £10k (25%) off. Mark 8's not the 8.5 which double the electric range. However if you don't change volume or temp much and have a short commute, all good.
👍
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru some great pre-reg deals out there, I got a Cupra Born with £13k off list (32%) off. Will hopefully cover the huge depreciation.
Drive the deal got 12 grand of the A4 s line
@@philipbray6861and not pre reg either!
Even with these massive discounts most cars are still vastly overpriced.
👌
You have to go PCP with these cars as the discount will affect residuals. Minimal deposit and plan to switch in 3 or 4 years.
Plenty of options other than PCP
Very true if you want to lease, but for any purchase option where you tend to change after 3 or 4 years then I believe PCP is the only option that gives a guaranteed value at the end. Then I suppose if that’s set by the manufacturer then they will price in the discount to the final value? My head hurts 😂
PCP must be the most widely mis-sold product on the face of the earth, very few truly understand how it works, including many who sell it. You need only finance a small part of the cost yet have to pay interest on the lot - Future values etc are all designed to simply push you into the next car with the same brand. It drives me mad that the regulator has done so little with it and continues to allow the smoke and mirrors to carry on.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Some of the LeaseLoco deals on offer are *way* less costly than many PCP's.....
Let me know when i can get a G wagon for 15k

Wanted to buy VW golf GTI and was told 12 months wait, and now there was 70 on autotrader with £4/5k off…lol

Crazy how many people commenting on the prices of new cars and how unaffordable they are. If you can't afford anything, get yourself on a hustle like the owner of this channel xD.
