I ran my 240D on anything I could find! The restaurant oil was bad in winter because it usually had bacon fat and it would get thick but as long as it was mixed with a little gas and some pump diesel it would be fine!

Done this for years, just used a Wolverine centrifuge to spin it down.
The stiff that was deemed too far gone, (i.e. 50 gallons of hydraulic oil that was completely emulsified with creek water and hadn't settled out in a month) got controlled oriface dripped into the wood burning stove. Fun fact when burning hedge and feeding emulsified hyd oil..... you will get the barrel hot enough to almost see through. Something with adding water to steam making extra flammable oil.... yeah had to buy a new barrel, lesson learned haha

The ingenuity! Very cool....I guess there's no equivalent for regular gas, unless you know someone in a painting company that accumulates large quantities of used paint thinner or the like.
I suppose the problem would be if you live somewhere where you have to pass a yearly smog test....one could simply make sure the car is filled with normal fuel on test day....

I don't own a diesel, but I have two heaters like that, and an old fuel oil furnace in the run down cabin that was here when I bought the land. I have a full 55 gallon drum of used oil right now, and I can get more from all my gearhead friends here in the UP. Also have a couple hundred gallons of bad gas in junk trucks that runs like crap, so I can use that too. It gets cold here and usually I have to take January and February off from working in the shop because getting it warm enough with sub zero temps is too expensive.
I was wondering how I could use the waste oil in my heaters, and what you show will work. Now I need to figure out how to get my shop insulated better. Since I can make ethanol, I wonder if that will thin it enough for the heaters. So one gallon of bad junk gas in four gallons of WMO. Coolness. Thanks man.

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ethanol works also, it's just going to attract water, not knock it out of suspension.
For a heater only, probably won't matter much

my plan is to get red diesel from oil tanks being removed and has quite a bit of sludge from the bottom. planning to make my mix 10% waste oil (5 gal), 5% reclaimed gas (2 1/2 gal) and 85% reclaimed red diesel (50 gal). plan to run it thru a centrifuge for my home oil burner, tractor and garage diesel heater. for my 08 Cummins truck use, I plan to centrifuge and also run it thru a 2 micron Diesel Fuel Filter Water Separator when I pump it in to my tank. any guidance would be appreciated. thank you 😃
btw, probably should of posted this in your "Making fuel at home for pennies" video.

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer

Anything that goes in my newer vehicles goes through my centrifuge first.
I've also almost totally abandoned Biodiesel, in favor of using various petroleum products. Hydraulic oil, fuel oil, waste motor oil... It's way easier to collect.
I heat it, centrifuge it, and use it from there.
When it get's colder, you're going to want a lot more gasoline, I'm up to 20% gas in my oil currently.

So you mix 4 gallons of used oil with 1 gallon of gas? I'll try it. I can't even find kerosene any more. I live in western PA.
BTW I've watched two of your videos so far and I believe you need to learn about siphoning. You don't need to suck on the hose with your mouth. Just have liquid in the hose and flop it lower than the container is all.
I once siphoned water out of my above ground pool using 6 inch corrugated drain pipe. I pushed it down into the pool and quickly flopped the end over the edge. It poured out extremely fast. I lowered the level in the 28' pool a foot in way less than a minute.

I wanted to mention that the state inspections here in PA are out of hand. My truck just failed for a rip in the seat. Ridiculous. The guy said that if you can see metal in the seat it fails and to blame the state. I looked it up when I got home and it says that if a metal spring protrudes out of the seat it fails. My truck doesn't have springs. It doesn't matter. I cannot appeal and am not allow to drive it on the road. They say that driving is a privilege not a right. It is the only way I get food or go to the doctors. How is it a privilege to eat? I tried to look up some organization to belong to but I cannot find one. I am not political. I quit voting when Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction then killed a million people.

@@johnprice867 Yes. I could bow down to the vision of those on a high horse whose ideals I, one of questionable character would dare to have a rip in my seat, must do in the name of "safety".
Many have died from that terrible word. The Spanish inquisition was for safety. Unconstitutional DUI check points, similar to those from Nazi's are for safety. Sounds ridiculous? If you put a map of the US with the states requiring vehicle inspections highlighted, it is an almost exact copy of a highlighted map of the most racist states. It is not a coincidence.
