Not elephant seals and dolphins.
That is not consent. that is her period lol
Not when they take advantage of penguins!
The things some animals find attractive is hysterical 😂
exactly
I was thinking the same hearing some turkeys gobbling about the other day.
Im straight up scarred!!
some women do lips improvements , also scary stuff
Agreed!
Amazes me how a fat bank account makes someone attractive all of a sudden! 😂😂😂
this is fascinating. also the footage they get is insane, especially under water
Absolutely insane.
It’s been a while since good footage of hooded seals has been recorded. Amazing animals with the males sporting a unique feature! Reminds me of frigatebirds and their inflatable throat pouch.
So cool can’t wait for Sunday to see what else we get to see
Reminded me of a camel
Camels also do something similar with their tongues

At this point, I may as well give this method a try.
At this point, I might actually be impressed by it

hey girl
* *honks massive clown nose* *
They look like such powerful swimmers! So graceful underwater. Maybe not as much on land… 😄
"An inflatable nose can be used to intimidate a rival" life advice i will take with me.
This is absolutely alien. I love it.
looks cgi
BBC team is amazing. Always records story very well. 👍
Yes, everything about the English is the best.
Agreed. Compared to other channels, I also like documentaries by BBC earth, they always put interesting stories together
1:25 this moment looks like something on a Hollywood or by CGI it’s so perfect 😮
Nature and Animals are never boring to watch whats going on, but this was unexpecting !
Imagine the diver who filmed underwater🥶👍and the crew on the Ice.🎬
So true!!
The diver has no job and plenty of time taking useless pics
@@nasirnazeer6582 🤣🤣🤣
@@nasirnazeer6582 😂you are kidding...
It is mostly drones and underwater mini toy subs with cameras attached that catch these great pics and videos , most of the time it's not a person but a machine , you really think a diver can sit it those waters for hours just to get few seconds to minutes of good video 😏
seal always felt like an imaginary animal to me when I was a kid. Like who would've thought about a combination of a dog and a fish
Dang my guy. She hit him with the restraining order lol
The seal "spy hopping" lol
Until I saw this video today I never knew that something like this existed,
I first try bringing flowers, then use this as a last attempt
Flowers as in a bunch of seaweed and coral😆😂
Apparently for seals, size matters
Amazing! Love the commentary too, it's so witty, and I think there is some sympathy with the young seal...
So pretty much his thing wasn’t big enough so he was denied and hurried away in embarrassment and rejection… *relatable* 😭
I love how animals understand No means No!
Not all by any means. Ducks are notorious for mounting anything and everything, including raping females to death.
Exactly
They don’t, that’s what they are killing each other constantly. Even domestic animals like cats kill other cats when mating. The female can kill the male cat after doing it.
not ducks
not dolphins
Even seals understand, 'no, means no'.
Do the inflatable nose and flap under the nostril in any way relate to their ability to hold their breath underwater? Evolutionarily speaking, do they serve any purpose, which makes these features, in particular, so important for impressing potential mates?
I think it's just intersexual selection. It could possibly be a negative thing for males (as it is with male peacocks) but I don't know for sure :)
It may be completely useless or even bad.
Oftentimes, sexual selection degenerates as evolution goes on.
To understand why, I recommend you look into Goodhart's law.
I'll sum it up for you. It's about tests. Basically, when a new test turns out to be very good, it will first become more popular (take for example those big standardised exams to get into university) but what happens next is that the test becomes bad again. Why?
Well, as the test becomes more and more popular, more people become aware of it and they start focusing their studying and training on the test itself instead of preparing for whatever skill the test was testing.
The same happens in nature, there's some of it in every species.
We can use these seals as an example.
Imagine the first time some female elephant seal randomly became attracted to males with a deep voice.
That's a new and successful test! Deep voice = big male = strong male = stronger offspring. (Female mammals NEED to be selective because they have limited and costly chances to reproduce, if they mate without being picky, their pups might not be strong enough and the mother's genes will die forever.)
So okay, generations go on and females with that taste have an offspring that simply survives better, it's good, it spreads, it becomes popular.
But now, how did the test degenerate? Welp males developed the big nose to add depth to the noise they can produce, and it attracts females selecting for that trait just as good as being bigger. Males became good at the test, the test is now bad.
The balloon nostril may be useless in a similar fashion. But maybe it's also a way to show health with that nice red colour. Remember, even obsolete tests may retain some sort of good core.
It’s not “useless” it’s used to mate
If the male doesn’t have one the female might not even look it’s way
@@RightWitit that's just uselessness with extra steps lol
You're merely shifting the uselessness of the trait to the uselessness of the method of selection the females are adopting - and calling that useful.
The question remains: why do females want their future offspring to inherit that seemingly useless trait?
The narrator can feel that guy's pain.
lol the way he pops his head out of the water tho
How amazing! I am absolutely impressed. Thank you for keeping us informed of the wonderful wildlife we know so little about!
She said “Boy Bye”😆😭
The sound design is so impressive
For people how don’t know
Pretty much all audio of from the animals is added in post
whoever put the bouncy ball effect in to make it sound like their nose is a legend
Absolutely amazing
This voice really fits these wild documentaries
Amazing Nature 👌❤️
Really gives new meaning to “big balls,” huh.
Excellent series by the BBC
Any such adventure by a human male will land him a Me Too title.
Outside of the awesomeness of the nature aspect of the video, can’t help but also admire their on-point zombie sound effects.
This is so intriguing my goodness
I feel your pain youngster 😂
My all time favorite Narrator of all time ❤
Nature is astounding.
This footage is amazing and they‘re so cute! 😍👍🏼 Nature is really incredible! 🤗🥰
only cute when it's not human doing it. In today's world the feminazis would be calling him creepy and hashtag nomeansNO and all sort of shenanigans
Cute?!
Male dromedary camels also have a similar looking part of them that comes out of their mouth, called a dulla, if I'm not mistaken, which is appealing to a prospective mate.
"Until the youngster has grown a more impressive balloon, he's unlikely to be chosen." HE JUST LIKE ME FORREAL
Lol
LOVE David Attenborough!
Awww the little seal pup 🦭
I was eagerly waiting, then the dictator said, "That means No!!"
Nature has a sense of humor as well. They can't be serious, but joking!
"And now this one is eager to prove it"
Yes yes yes... Long live Sir David Attenborough
Seals are such funny creatures.
Elephant seals, males in particular, seem straight out of Spirited away ahaha
When he inflated his nostril, I felt for him cuz he was putting it all out there. And he could tell she wasn't going for it but he summoned the courage to try anyway. 😂
I think the female got attracted to the cameraman who was filming all this😜😜😜🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Hooded Seal cause these are just some funny little seal
I like how they added the sound of someone slapping a dodge ball.
They look more scary than elephant seals
In fact, both hooded seals and elephant seals possess a proboscis, both the hooded seal and elephant seals are classified within the family Cystophoridae, Cystophoridae is a unique family of pinnipeds, this family is known to contain the largest living carnivoran in the world, which is the Southern Elephant Seal (Mirounga leonina).
elephant seals are huge, bro.
the leopard seal is scary af too.
wonderful!! thank you
Talk about being puffed up in pride!!🤣
😂😂 I'm feeling sorry for this male seal

Crazy how the sound is mostly manufactured in a studio rather than live.
At times They looked scary funny and cute as well.

What a grotesque creature it is! Incredible bodily features
But why did he made me feel like I wanted to "mate" if he's "grotesque"??

@@elishh8173 You want to mate? Do you have a big enough inflatable nostril sac? 😏

The worst she can says is "no"
Her:
Female:”Eewwwwwww!”
Oh good Lord, such patience huh.
And people though that the inflatable sacks in Prehistoric Planet were weird
No wonder those seal's eyes are so bloodshot nature practically giving them a reason to get a Head Rush
Interesting to see that the youngster was able to defeat the larger and more mature male.
Maybe because he already successfully bred? Possibly wants to avoid injuries also.
She’s waiting for the older, more experienced guy who gave up when fighting this youngster. 😂
The mature one was probably like “still beat tho”
Well looks like size does matters
Soo impressive authentik.😻😻
Yo I've never seen these seals before very interesting!
Size does matter for seals
There are times you see a thumbnail of a TH-cam video and think, "That looks interesting." and then are sorely disappointed when you watch the video. This was not one of those times.
I just hope this is a recent video & Sir David Attenborough is in good health. After the Queen's death, I'm worried about him.
