Hollywood media has continued to attack online movie critics recently seemingly going after critics like The Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic. However things have reached an even new low with an article labelling online critics as right wing activists, while also trying to pin Disney against critics and make it out as if there is an ongoing battle between Disney and online movie critics like Nerdrotic. So in this video I go over all the reasons why movie critics are important and why Hollywood needs people like The Critical Drinker because as much as they can ruin a movies reputation they can also help it if it's a good film.

"The audience needs protection from losing money."
      So very true.
And the underlying concept Hollywood fails to understand is that they don't have an automatic right to the money in my wallet. They need to earn that money. And that means proving to me every single time that they deserve my money.
Current Hollywood has proven the opposite. They don't deserve my money. I used to go to the movies all the time. Now I need to hear from several reliable sources that a movie is worth seeing.
Dune 2 was enjoyable. Mainly because it was immersive. I wasn't watching a movie so much as being on another planet riding a sandworm.
More like Dune 2, less like Madame Web and She-Hulk.

If Hollywood had any brains at all. The best way to "combat" the Drinker would be to give him a job, a budget and see what happens. If he fails, he destroys his own credibility. But if he is actually a talented writer, he can churn out financial successes for the struggle studios.
Its literally win win for the studio. He either loses his caches with a failure or they get all the money.
When you cant objectively look at a situation for a simple solution. Is it really about politics? or is it simply hatred?
      We all know.

Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well, certainly, there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. V for Vendetta (The full speech so closely parallels today's society, it's amazing)

The reason this is so widespread across not just Hollywood but the spectrum of western entertainment ( if not society) is that in the 80's & 90's teacher training colleges were taken over by devotees of Brazilian Marxist Paolo Freire's Pedagogy of Education which instructs teachers ( and university lecturers) that the only legitimate function of education is to create Marxist activists, furthermore Freire's work teaches how to convert every academic subject into a vehicle for Marxist indoctrination.Having produced 20 years worth of indoctrinated activists incapable of thinking outside of the parameters of their indoctrination we see also how this process combined with a generation of narcissists raised by parents and teachers beholden to the "all must have prizes" culture and weaponised by social media. This toxic stew has produced a generation of indoctrinated narcissists not only incapable of producing content free of their ideology but utterly incapable of absorbing the slightest criticism without public or online meltdowns that have become all to fuckin familiar.Sorry for the rant but once you understand the process that created today's entertainment shit show it is very hard to unsee it's evil hands.

I appreciate your demonstrated self-awareness about your "side." Christian themed movies remind me of Christian rock worship songs. I'd rather listen to hold music, and it isn't because of the message. How Great Thou Art, God's Gonna Cut You Down, Wayfairing Stranger, Amazing Grace, The Man Comes Around, even Ave Maria for the RCs. Or Boney M - Mary's boy child, a disco christmas track, are all great songs. But like you said Christian movies? I can't think of a good one since The Passion of The Christ. It's like they combine the worst of after school specials, hallmark movies, and daytime soap opera level acting to churn out holier than thou feel good slop. "Wholesome" doesn't mean it has to be so over the top feel-good that isn't relatable or believable.

One of the biggest things I like about TH-cam critics: they're not pretentious snobs who only care if a movie is 'art'. Before TH-cam days, the best way to know if a movie was any fun to watch was if critics bashed it. Of course, everyone has their preferences on the kinds of movies they like and I don't begrudge those who enjoy movies that are 'deep and complex and make you think'. But me? I just want to be told a story and be entertained for a few hours. TH-cam critics are a lot more 'every man'. Sure you still comment on points that I don't put a lot of emphasis on and some (such as The Drinker) do favor more of the 'deep' movies in their preferences. April 11, 2024 - Mr. Grant makes some very valid points in this video. However, I would add that box office sales continue to go down for a number of reasons. More and more people are refusing to pay high ticket prices to see poor quality films, while having to deal with anti-social, and rude audience members. Word of mouth has traditionally been a big factor as to whether a film is successful or not. Social media has given even more power to word of mouth. Technology is snapping at the heels of "legacy entertainment" and the publications that rely on it for revenue. New VR and AR devices are getting better all of the time, and are really offering a better viewing experience to the public. The "emperor's" sycophants that berate the honest reviewers that point out that the actually naked "emperor" (in this case the entertainment industry), has no clothes. Will continue to make money, but will gradually die off just like so many other "news" outlets and publications. The people that lie and obfuscate for the entertainment industry, will eventually be ignored by the public that they have tried to deceive. The truth can only be hidden for a period of time, but it will eventually come out.

If a movie has success it's because of the amazing performance of the actors, but if flops it's the TH-camrs and toxic fans to blame 😂

Each point was exactly spot on. No one's saying these things yet it's so obvious.
I never ever understood the criticisms "you can't judge a movie until you watch it". What's the alternative? A studio tells me that their movie is great, I go out to watch it and don't think it's great. And the studio gets my money while I feel like I've been cheated? Reviewers keep the entire enterprise honest...or as honest as the film industry can be.
The "racist", "sexist" remarks have been a ploy since 2012. It's meant to be used as a shield that studios can hide behind while putting low/no quality into their films and that's a notable difference between woke Hollywood and Ladyballers. The former uses it as a tactic to put out weak material fortified by virtue signaling while the latter used politics purely to take the piss out of Hollywood.

Totally agree. Movies are not "gifts" to us that we have to like. We pay good money to see them, so we have every right to expect writing that isn't crap.

    THE SOLUTION
    Stop watching bad movies.
It sucks that in reality a few good movies a year gets released and tons of trash gets released, but unless your completely dense it's not hard to tell the difference.
    Some simple rules v0.01
#1 If it's a Disney movie don't directly pay to watch it, give it a year or so and it'll be rammed into your face for free to sell the dregs of its merch to clear the warehouse.
#2 if it's any other Hollywood company don't watch it again give it a year or so and avoiding it for free will be harder than dodging a newspaper websites ads.
#3 if it's a Godzilla movie by Toho just go watch it.
#4 ( to be added in later rules versions )

That's why the people whining about these movies pisses me off just as much as the movies themselves.... They know what they're getting themselves into, they know it will be bad, they know their money will only encourage them to make more regardless of how much people openly hate what they're doing, so why the hell do they keep watching these crappy superhero and Star Wars movies?! "I'm watching it for research so i can tell you guys how bad it is, I've been a fan for decades of the Star Wars trilogy, i have to follow the story".... Well great and all, but STFU about how they wont change how they go about their movies if you're going to pay them to make them anyway...... I swear they're all insane. Keep repeating the same BS and expecting a different outcome 🙄I don't care if they want or expect a different outcome or not, i just wish they'd shut up whining about these movies if they're going to keep watching them.

Drinker is so popular because he says what millions of movie fans are thinking. Hopefully the studios will pay some attention as one project after another loses hundreds of millions of dollars and alienates what should be their key demographic of fans.

Since Covid if you say you not liking this " lock downs, shots, new remakes of favorite characters " I am now a right-wing hater & am being offered on my media feeds only stuff on how terrible woman are and I as a white man have been disrespected. So I can't believe in human team work & getting along with those that have a different point of view. Seems like there Is a 'the big club" manipulation on high push to fracture my commitment to my neighbors rights to just be who they be. Watch out where the system is trying to take you, woman, minorities, emigrants, you're neighbors, are not doing this to you....they have little power over anything. The low wage, high cost of living to make bloodline family's rule is where to take our pitch forks & torches to, but they are the one's that feed the dog's of obedience to keep you from the truth.

The thought that Gary/CD are influencing us sheep solely based on their opinion is absolutely ludicrous. Gary/CD are popular because their opinions are similar to our own, just said much more eloquently and resonate with the fans. If everyone loved Madame Web/The Marvels/The Eternals people would laugh at Gary's/CD's takes, and/or they'd just listen to Movie Bob or Campea and then those films would be hugely successful.

The Star Wars Sequel movies were bad on many levels, but the critics mainly focused on the toxic female aspect, so in that regard, they were a bit political. But the movies really were very bad. Bombers in the zero gravity of space? Super powerful spaceships that can destroy planets but don't know which direction is up without a special signal? Why do you need a map and a convoluted path to find Luke's planet when you just need coordinates or the name of the planet? The list goes on and on.

Jesse. Love your videos. Keep on doing what you do. Hold these Hollywood elitists accountable. In this climate when people are struggling with high costs, we need folks like you. The DEI and wokeness in film (looking at you Disney) are out of control. I just want to see a good movie without having subliminal "woke" messages. Screenwriters complain about AI coming in and taking over because it's easier for them to moan than fix things. They should look in the mirror and simply say, I need to be better.

The very reason we viewers need movie critics is the because filmmakers aren’t doing a good job making good films. If most films are good, I wouldn’t feel the need to check the review first. So, this whole thing is on them
