Both are very intricate, competent players with 2 different styles but there's no egos between them. Matt knows that Corey can play things he can't and likewise with Corey being humbled at how Matt can lay down a solid rhythm and how he's the backbone of their sound
@@rei__ier Because in a standard tuning, the interval between your 2nd and 3rd string (counting from the highest up) is supposed to be a major third (4 half steps) instead of a perfect fourth. From D to F# you've got 4 half steps: D-D#-E-F-F#
@@mr4094 I know this is old but... Yes, that is correct under most circumstances. That would put the guitar to be played exactly the same E standard, but just down a fourth. (AKA B Standard.) The problem is in *this* instance, this song isn't played as if it's a standard tuned guitar but just shifted down... It's played as if it's a standard tuned 7 string. And that uses a *G,* not an F#. If you were to tune your G string to an F#, and play it exactly as is, that would throw off every thing on that string by a half step. To correctly play this song on a 6 string, you would need to be tuned BEADGB. The High E isn't used often, so you really don't need it. Technically, that's off from what it should be, according to keeping the intervals the same. But, that's the only way to keep the strings consistent to how it's played on a 7 string.
at 2.57 cuz it kinda sounds weird without bass and drums, you can see Matt kinda laugh to himself, and this video helped in paying the rhythm right, thank you
human, love that album, ur right tons of bands wouldnt be screaming the way they do today, slayer is also a large influence, so ppl who say they're shit dont know wut they're talking about -.- ...RIP Chuck
You would take the 6 string tuning (B,E,A,D,G,B,E) and drop off that high E. So all the strings are dropped back like 5 steps or whatever it is. Hence him saying needing the right strings and intonation
be very careful if you have a floyd or a trem cuz it could screw it up. I would recommend going down to guitarcenter or a shop and having them do it cuz they put on thicker strings that the 7 strings use and they will get in the intonation right.
however, if you are gonna tune to this i'd get a set of thick strings i.e. 58-13 for B tuning is what i would use (you may need the nut on the guitar re-set up to accomodate for the thicker strings coz they just wont fit and you will get loads of buzzing, intonation may also need re-doing aswell)
LOL I almost thought Corey was going to start line dancing when Matt was playing his chorus part!! so country that riff!! Maybe if country and black metal had a baby, that's the riff XD
@DetBlirSkitBra i suggest only get a 7 string if you like playing 7 string stuff and you basically need one for playing what you want, 7 strings need alot of extra stuff that you cant get everywhere if it breaks, strings arent that bad, but pikcups, floyd rose if you manage to break it
To put a solution to this. Seven string = BEADGBE, Six string = BEADF#B (To make it so it all matches up scale wise), Six string alternate that Matt mentions = BEADGB which cuts off the high E and theoretically doesn't make match up the way it usually does cause a seven string is an E standard guitar with a low B added not a B Standard guitar. Hope it helps any of those who were wondering.
Hahah that part where the vocals start reminds me of the old days with my band when we had no singer XD Then it was also that quiet and we were all singing the song in our head XD
i beg to differ, he was the nicest guy to meet when i met them twice, matt and cory were quiet but paolo greeted us like we were the only persons on line.
they do use the open B, only on the 'breakdown' part though. but i'm pretty sure it should be possible on C. maybe just harmonize the note or something.
it shows a picture of james hetfield or kirk hammett. theres two versions of the magazine but there the same just diiferent covers on the front. you should be able to find it. i got it last month. i can tab it if i knew how. do you know how? if so help me help you.
bc they made that sick ass razorback usa custom shop and made them both signature series guitars and like less than a year later they went back to endorsing Gibson and jackson lol
You guys must be living under a fucking rock. Matt left gibson like the beginning of this year. Signed an official contract with Gibson MONTHS ago. He's having a custom 7 string explorer made for him.
played on my first 7 string the other day and this was the first thing i tried to play took me a while but i worked out the whole thing right there in the shop i was well pleased xD
their show at wacken was incredible, and pretty much every video i've watched of them they sound identical to the album. its pretty incredible. and yeah maybe it was just that one the wacken show - > /watch?v=2uHnqwQrzvM
One of my favourite bridges of all time really builds up with matt screams and the drums go ballistic it's killer
When I saw trivium Corey was the one who played that harmony in the intro and matt played the rhythm
Conzacazi yea nowadays corey is lead and matt does all the rythm playing
Both are very intricate, competent players with 2 different styles but there's no egos between them. Matt knows that Corey can play things he can't and likewise with Corey being humbled at how Matt can lay down a solid rhythm and how he's the backbone of their sound
Just got myself a 7-string and now Im finally able to play this beautiful piece of music!
i cant imagine one of them without the other lol, they are the very sound of trivium
the tuning to this song on a six string would be B E A D F# B
Just came across this video, I'm curious why would it be F# instead of just G?

i enjoy their demonstrations, they do a lot for people wanting to play their stuff
Gorgeous Tone!!!
Shogun.. best album ever.
at 2.57 cuz it kinda sounds weird without bass and drums, you can see Matt kinda laugh to himself, and this video helped in paying the rhythm right, thank you

That is a really nice tone there, sounds very tight
that pinch harmonic at 5:49 is killer
yeah me too, with a 4x12 cab with celestion vintage 30's in it
"dont quote me on it cuz im not that great with music"..... he is so talented,

I saw them live friday, corey's red KV2 has seven strings
743!! One of my favorite bridges of all time!!
Musically , one of the sickest Trivium tunes ever
there guitars sound amazing!
be very careful if you have a floyd or a trem cuz it could screw it up. I would recommend going down to guitarcenter or a shop and having them do it cuz they put on thicker strings that the 7 strings use and they will get in the intonation right.
that last riff, "the elephant riff" is so damn crushing
Matt has a very interesting way of playing...
Elephant riff
GAH! I want that tone! it's so thick and crunchy!!
however, if you are gonna tune to this i'd get a set of thick strings i.e. 58-13 for B tuning is what i would use (you may need the nut on the guitar re-set up to accomodate for the thicker strings coz they just wont fit and you will get loads of buzzing, intonation may also need re-doing aswell)
Great that you guys breaking that down. Thx.
Corey's wearing a Death shirt!!!! Awesome!!!!
LOL I almost thought Corey was going to start line dancing when Matt was playing his chorus part!! so country that riff!! Maybe if country and black metal had a baby, that's the riff XD
Now everytime I hear the elephant riff I think about elephants

black metal at the end

How do you tune down? I'm in standard at the moment
Man have is there any other riffs fromt he album on the CD?
Like a lesson for another song?
The Pre Chorus riff is like the best riff ever
i beg to differ, he was the nicest guy to meet when i met them twice, matt and cory were quiet but paolo greeted us like we were the only persons on line.
RIP CHUCK!!!! DEATH RULES!!!!!!
the lead-in sounded EXACLY like the mp3
Probably a Peavey 5150. Either that or maybe a Marshall for some things but I'm pretty confident that they used Peaveys.
Should I buy a 7-string?
they do use the open B, only on the 'breakdown' part though. but i'm pretty sure it should be possible on C. maybe just harmonize the note or something.
this is aweromse...thank you so much for this video.
Matts using a Marshall halfstack and Corey is using a Hughs and Kettner halfstack
There was a pic of them tunning up in the studio a while back
The local guitar store i work at has The Corey and Matt signitures.
They are fucking amazing
I love the way Corey does this "The fuck was that shit???" look after Matt messes up lol
OMG corey is wearing a death shirt :]
on a 6 string do you tune down to drop c ??
awesome song!
it is. you cna ask the same about their guitars being seven strings too. just custom non-market guitars.
its funny when they are palying the verse and theres that few seconds of silence..AWKWARD!
what did matt mean by, if you dont have a 7 string tune it down? plz help??
it shows a picture of james hetfield or kirk hammett.
theres two versions of the magazine but there the same just diiferent covers on the front.
you should be able to find it. i got it last month.
i can tab it if i knew how.
do you know how?

i personally think this is the best song they have come out with
the chorus rhythm is awesum
the chorus is soo sick :)
my finger is too slow
how can i play .... :(
+Razen rai Rajenrai jaja what are you talkin' about? down from the sky is really easy to play...
+JameX Martinez Ugaz i screwed on da pull off/hammer on parts :/
i love this riff :)
same as it is for the seven strings but you need to buy a pack of 7 string Strings. and just leave the lowest one out
I don't know what the discussion topic is, but if you are talking about the guitars, both of them are using Deans.
What effects and amps are they using in this specific recording?
what tuning do i have to use for six string??
Man the bridge is very Demon like xD
Love it
Does anyone think that while Parkway Drive were writing the album Horizons, they listened to alot of Trivium?
bc they made that sick ass razorback usa custom shop and made them both signature series guitars and like less than a year later they went back to endorsing Gibson and jackson lol
If you're referring to the guitar in this video, it's not. They are both Deans. 7 string
i wonder what that tuba idea would have sounded like?
i wish i had a 7 string ML
that would be so cool, its better than the razorback.
i wish i had that one.
the chorus sounds like power rangers
i see they're using passive pickups in the 7 strings, anyone know which ones??
were do u get this official tab, cos all tab sites are different to this
well...you gotta know what amps their using. :^)
Up close, yeah. The guy on the left is Matt Heafy, just to let you know.
This band got much better when Paolo joined.
does anyone no the chords for matts chorus part?
Very Catchy.
You guys must be living under a fucking rock.
Matt left gibson like the beginning of this year.
Signed an official contract with Gibson MONTHS ago. He's having a custom 7 string explorer made for him.
@Metal1ap They seen to alternate, 'cause Corey plays it on the Live From Chapman Studios video.
the chorus kinda sounds like the angry vindeo game nerd theme, the version thats on the begining of the spiderman episode.
played on my first 7 string the other day and this was the first thing i tried to play took me a while but i worked out the whole thing right there in the shop i was well pleased xD
@BFMVFEVER3 good amp probably humbucking pickups
their show at wacken was incredible, and pretty much every video i've watched of them they sound identical to the album. its pretty incredible. and yeah maybe it was just that one
the wacken show - > /watch?v=2uHnqwQrzvM
whats an octave difference i dont realy know music theory
use a heavier bottom string man, i use a 10-70 and love it!
one of the best songs of trivium /M\
matt is a guitar and corey is an intro, read the labels on the bottom
I'd like to own a seven string, it'd be pretty cool :)
