Yes very much i was looking to up my riffing skills on the 7 string and checked other youtubers who where only flexing their skills. This video is very useful for me, you hooked me with the tabs and playthroug! Subscribed :D
Getting a 7 was a game changer for me. Drop Ab and Eb standard at the same time on my guitar. I always hated the scale shapes getting messed up when drop tuning a 6.
Many bands made me go to the seven strings, like Korn, Fear Factory, Suicide Silence, but the real trigger was the music Down From The Sky from Trivium.
I'd love to get to a point when I can play Cytotoxin - Dominus. A lot of Allegaeon songs are written on a 7 and 8. Dyson Sphere is a good alt picking challenge with an accessible solo for sweeps. They play 6s but I'm pushing my down picking learning Misery Index. New Salem will get that endurance built up
My fav 7 string jam riffs come from nevermore and keith merrow. Anyone can pick like helicopter. Anyone can play the bazillion open note combos. To play something that doesnt just sound like blended noise requires more than lows otherwise all i hear is drums and fuzz.
I learned my 7 string by starting out on Archspire's Involuntary Doppelgänger. Which is ridicoulous, because I'm really not very skilled, so taking on Archspire at that place in my development was a recipy for burn-out. But I persevered and 14 months(!) later, I had it. Now I know two songs for 7-string guitar; Involuntary Doppelgänger and Remotre Tumour Seeker.
I owned my Schecter blackjack 7 string a year ago and i’ve been loving it but the only problem i found in my case it’s that i can’t remember more than 5 or 6 songs at the same time with it and i had to rewatch tabs so many times, with 6 string i’m sure i can play and remember more than 50 songs almost perfect
There's nothing like modern metal 7 string riffing especially when playing call and response style licks between bassy riffs and higher disonant or melodic chords over a groovy half time beat! Great looking course. Tabs please 🙂
Far from heaven by fit for an autopsy is great to warm up to 7 strings I’ve been learning the first 2 riffs for the past month and at full speed holy shit you’ll definitely have to be comfortable on the wider fretboard.
I bought a 7 string a while ago just because of one song. So I got a 7 and and then realized the song was harder than I thought and I've never been able to play it lol. Now I dont hardly play my 7 and when I do it's dumb stuff that I could just do on a 6. (The song is Doomswitch by Make Them Suffer)
All Shall Perish is an incredibly underrated band that sadly left the map too soon. And also how can a 7 string list be complete without any Trivium riff, I'd guess they started playing much of 7 strings later after you were getting into it, but their latest 2 albums really have some sick 7 string riffs worth checking out!
Same story. But reason to buy my esp nt-7 was Thy Art Is Murder - Shadow of Eternal Sin, Carnifex - Unil I Feel Nothing, Chelsea Grin - My Damnation, Suicide Silence - Slaves to Substance, Emmure - Protoman, Divine Heresy - Facebreaker. Now most impressive 7 string music, for what I want to buy 7str baritone - is Lorna Shore with Adam de Micco. P.s.: still dreaming to buy 8 string guitar to try to play my number 1 band - Aversions Crown (Tyrant and Xenocide) and Archspire, and of course Bleed by Meshuggah)))🤘
This was honestly a super sick video. Reminded me of a lot of bands and songs i havent listened to in a while and its good inspiration for when i eventually pick up a seven string. Tabs/the play along at the end was a nice touch and much appreciated.
I got my first seven string yesterday and i have been learning septuagint from Obscura for the past 4 hours, its by far my favorute 7 string song tho il have to learn the whole Omnivium album
I knew of 7-strings but absolutely didn't understand how scale length worked, etc. Trivium's "Shogun" album is what made me finally pull the trigger on my first 7-string. Down From the Sky being the first song I ever learned on a 7-string. Battle for Ozzfest was the SHIT! I've seen Unearth a handful of times and they're a stellar band. One of the bands that make me a proud New Englander here in the states just one state over from Massachusetts 🥹 Unearth was absolutely a band I learned as well but I think the band that really sucked me in with 7-strings the most was Periphery with Periphery I leading into Periphery II 👀
I know this unconventional, but I really like to place a capo on the 1st fret to essentially play a 6 string in C standard with and additional high string.
TTEOTD are the reason I played a 7 string. They were from my hometown and I’m still good friends with the guys. They toured with As I Lay Dying when their album Malice dropped. Since it was around my 21st birthday, they got me backstage to hang out with the guys in AILD. It was a memorable night for sure.
Down tuning your sixer will only do so much. I used to only play six strings and down tune but after playing a 7 string for the first time and going back to my six string I could definitely feel the emptiness
Awesome stuff Jamie, definitely useful for me as I'm looking to get a 7 string 🤘🤘 Going to finish watching this after work but decided to add these songs to a Spotify playlist. Couldn't find Devine Heresy "Failed Creation" though - just the one album available (Bringer of Plagues), could it be under another name?
7 strings really aren't that difficult to learn. Think of it as having more options for lower tuning and longer scales. Also with a seven string you can use a .072 gauge string on the bottom which allows for some crazy picking and awesome sounds.
For some reason, tech death riffs are easier on 7 compared to a 6 due to the wider n' rounder neck and it helps me grip on better also you get 2 tunings in 1.
I always battled with loving to play rhythm in dropped tunings and then not being able to play full barre chords when spicing up riffs melody and the 7 string said “Hey! *pist pist* I think I got something you’ll love, check it out”.
Gots a question about "All Shall Perish". How the heck do you keep the high F# string from breaking? I've tried 8s, 9s,... they snap like uncooked pasta!
i've been thinking about trying a 7 strings and you played killer riffs but I still don't get it, most of them don't use the higher strings so why can't it be a detuned 6 strings (or a barytone 6) ??? thanks for any explanations available guys :)
Sick looking guitar, but that 25.5 scale just aint it for me. I feel like if you are going to play in Drop A or lower you really need an extra inch in scale for better tension. But thats just me. Great video brother.
7-string is a definitely awesome tool but this video shows almost nothing about it. Instead, it mostly proves the point of 'just getting a 6-string and tunning it lower'. 6-string baritone and a pitch pedal do a great job together Still, there ARE riffs and crazy chords that are easier and more 'natural' to be played on a 7-string, too bad that most examples here are not showing this =(
Indeed. Exactly like I say in the talking parts :) I’m only showcasing riffs but the songs I’m referencing are good examples. Also this isn’t a review of the guitar. It’s a riff medley. I have done a review of this guitar if you’d like to watch that one
Like this comment if you want to see TABS at the end of videos. Is this useful for you??

My love affair started with the likes of Korn, Fear Factory, Meshuggah, Morbid Angel, and of course Vai and Petrucci.
Oh sweet!! That’s intriguing
Same here :) Born in 1980 ;)
That cort looks sick! Trivium and Babymetal were the reasons I got into 7 strings
Getting a 7 was a game changer for me. Drop Ab and Eb standard at the same time on my guitar. I always hated the scale shapes getting messed up when drop tuning a 6.
The way I looked at it, I was playing in D# with a low G# instead of playing in G#. That helped me learn how to navigate the fretboard
Many bands made me go to the seven strings, like Korn, Fear Factory, Suicide Silence, but the real trigger was the music Down From The Sky from Trivium.
For me, it was KoRn. I loved how they sounded. Thats where and why I started on a 7 string.
Exactly that’s why I started too
That Cort is gorgeous! I want one

+1 for the Sylosis shirt. I own the KX700. it's rad. Good riffs!

The best riffs to play on a 7 string are riffs written for low tuning 6 strings 😆 usually the arrangement is much more comfortable..
Yehhhhhhh
Try Chimaira's Pass Out Existence. The whole album sounds like "simple" riffs, but boy, they're tough to play but feel suuuuuuuuper good to play 'em.
I got that Cort 7 string just recently it sounds so good!
💪 for Divine Heresy and TTEOTD 🥳

I remember that show on MTV back in the day. Listened to "Unearth" a lot during a period back then.

Great 7 string video! Im looking forward to the 8 string guitar video. With hopefully Divine Heresy songs in it 👍
I needed this video. Ive had a Legator Ninja7 for a while and I couldn't get it down. This helps so much

Devin Townsend ziltoid albums are what got me into 7 string. Gcgcgce/ fbfbfbd tunings.

Mix of Wake up by Suicide Silence, Down from the sky by Trivium and Failed creation by Divine Heresy
I clicked hoping to see Unearth, I am indeed happy. Got some All Shall Perish too 😮
me watching the intro and glancing at my 6 string ibanez tuned to drop A because of slipknot 👀
8:35 Divine Heresy! Omg what a throwback! That band is criminally untalked about these days but their albums were such a riff barrage
Yep its a shame Divine Heresy didnt get the attention it surely deserved. Dino Cazares is the 7, but mainly 8 string riff machine 👌
Lovely production quality Jamie!!
Thank you! Totally appreciate it. I’ve been working super hard recently to change up my video style
I play 6 and 7 strings they both have their place but I guess I play multiple genres
Bro… don’t tell me that was orihime and ulquiora ? Bleach fans here too 🎉

I've picked 7 string because of Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail. 7 string are monster guitars!
I sincerely expected to hear 10 Korn riffs 😂 I didn’t even knew there was someone on earth who didn’t pick a 7 string because of Korn 😝
Hahahaha yeh I’m the odd one out I didn’t love Korn especially back then. I do now!
I'm buying a seven to play some Polaris. Theyre not reinventing the wheel per say but what they do, they do at the highest level.
They’re incredible RIP my buddy Ryan

G? I think maybe even lower

If you wanna do a "double drop"/inverted power chord tuning, you can tune like GCGCFAD. If you drop just the lowest string then it's GDGCFAD.

:D lets play some Korn heh
Not a single Nevermore riff. Wow.
btw Cort I never tried it out, just thought of it as a "new beginner based guitar brand" or whatever how is to play on them?

Yessss
For me it was Soil the Stillborn by Infant Annihilator. Well technically it needs 8 strings but still..
Haha yea what a banger. Love that album. Can’t play any of the songs tho haha

I didn’t really like Korn growing up. I do now though
I love mick thomson
