Simple chords and scales, great composition = totally awesome. My favorite solo from Trivium. You can hear both their personalities at once. Corey = more shred’ish, with quick alternate picking and sweepies. Matt = more groovi’sh, with powerful bends and vibratos. Very complementary. 🎶🤘🏼🎸
Matts solo in pull harder is still one of my favorite solo's he's ever done. That and his part in that king diamond shit off the roadrunner united album.
@@edwinmaldonado3191 Dude I love his solo in "in the fire" that he did with King Diamond. Can't believe he was one of the four captain's chosen by roadrunner at 18-19 to feature in the album.
Corey is like; and then it's a Bflat into an Eminor and then back to a C... and i'm like; fuck yeah, if I only studied this a whole lot of more I would actually have a chance on understanding some of it :'D These guys are GOOODS. Can't wait to see them in November :D
I watched the "In Waves" documentary and what the producers of this album said is "Corey is the type of guitarist who just wants to shred." So fucking true! And he's so naturally talented.
You probably dont give a damn but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Desmond Graham Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Not too sure why people are arguing about Avenged Sevenfold in a Trivium video. Also, just an observation, but the rhythm guitar during this solo (and, not that I think about it, the main riff of Forsake Not the Dream) both use a chord progression that Avenged Sevenfold use as well (the A-B-Db, though Avenged play almost exclusively in drop d, so the chords are all a half-step higher).
because corey didnt have a whammy he simply turned the volume down and back up during the slide from 2 frets :L On the record its done with a tremolo however to get the effect on this hardtail guitar he is using that is what he done, simply altered the volume knob whilst playing the note slide.
@TheDethDude (I don't like Trivium but I'm commenting so I can correct you) The guitar he is playing is a USA Jackson KV2 with Seymour Duncan Blackouts, not EMG's.
when you actually tap with your picking hand you need to do a slight pulloff with the finger on your picking hand. also, timing is very important to get the right sound. hopefully that helps
2 years late but a compressor pedal helps a ton with that. Obviously it's still about technique, but the short version is the compressor makes all the funky noises coming from your guitar levelled. So that things like tapping for example come through a lot louder as if you were picking the notes.
@untilitsleeps087 lol yep, also the one he calls the 'dad metal' lick. It's a very classic rock lead lick and he uses that one all the damned time too.
Corey's Guitar is a Jackson USA KV2 2008. I know because the 2008's have that yellowish coloring on the sides of the neck. the new ones have clear bright white. by the way I have the exact same guitar that's how I know.
+casey sattler that definitely isn't his signature His signature inlays are smaller in size and the body of the King V he's using in this video doesn't have the ridges around the "wings" of the guitar
trying to learn that asap, that's the only part that i'm struggling with in this song, especially the tapping part... Btw, did learn that from a very strange approach: Acoustic ver -> electric rhytm -> trying to add the lead parts to complete the progress :)
I'm a guitarist-styled bass player and I lack the strings to do the majority of this lol. I was only taking a few notes from this to see if I could create a sexy bass rift-lick from any of this
so at 3:50 what exactly is that riff called? I'm trying to get it down but I'm looking for a god tutorial video to study. I believe Matt called it a "dad metal riff". But is there any other term?
TekNacho It's a pretty standard pentatonic lick, basically 99% of all Blues is pentatonics, also most Classic Rock stuff and oldschool Metal.Search for Blues lessons, like playing in the style of Santana,SRV,Jimmy Page,Gary Moore,Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Michael Schenker etc.
they play clean as hell, even when playing live... like how corey and matt changes in solos. first matt does solo, then maatt does rythm, then solo and rythm again.
@xTheWorldNeedsAHerox I...was talking about the chord progression in the song, not the solos? Also, I don't base my assumptions on guitarists' skill based on where they placed in a book. If this list were about different styles, why does Kirk Hammett place 15th when he's constantly accused of just playing in pentatonic with lots of wah? Form your own opinions about guitarists instead of following a top 100.
ah my bad, I couldn't see it because of my crappy monitor.. however as I described, you can easily achieve the same sound with the method I described in my previous comment.
@xTheWorldNeedsAHerox Oh, certainly. I never said that Syn was better than Beaulieu (waaay the oposite). I just said that Syn wasn't that bad. Just that, 'cause I don't even consider him as an influence or anything. Honestly, I really like the way that Beaulieu plays. He's kinda' an influence for me :) Definetely better than Syn....
why are people comparing A7X to trivium they are two completely different bands with their own style of music, tbh they're both my favourite bands coz they're different
@sicness10 They were getting bad service from the Dean Company, and Dean Zelinsky left the company. The quality of their guitars have gone downhill ever since. They returned to the companies that endorsed them previously which is Gibson and Jackson for Heafy and Beaulieau respectively
The way they trade off my god just as good if not better then the greats (Maiden, Priest) they aren't two guitar players they are one and I don't think many other duos can say the same
@metalguitarist321 how do I know? I've seen them live, he botched quite a bit. And yes, Corey did botch that sweep - but as you said, everyone makes mistakes. I'd be willing to say that there's a difference between flubbing one note and messing up a more considerable amount. I've done both, playing the same solo at two shows on consecutive days One time I had it near - perfect, the second I basically missed every note in a run. So yeah, everybody fucks up at some point.
First records Drop D Shogun = Drop D and Drop B (7strings) in waves and vengeance falls = Drop C# live shows = Drop C# and Drop A# ( they change the tune of the old songs to half-step down)
Wologan Rhodes They don't play in Drop B or Drop A#, they play in Baritone tuning on Shogun and some of the Crusade songs which is BEADGBE and is the STANDARD tuning for a seven string, not a drop tuning, and they play a half step down from that for the seven string songs live.
+Hezify Slight correction and update: Ember To Inferno is E standard and Drop D. Silence In The Snow is in Drop C#, Bb standard 7-string and Drop Ab 7-string. Pillars of Serpents and When All Light Dies are in drop.
it is easy.... for them. i cant do that shit either. But! all you need is practice. It takes 300-500 repetitions for your body to map the nerves for a specific action... so practice it slow 300 times and see where you are after that :D
two best synchronised guitarists in metal for me. this is insane how accuraet together they are!
They have a really good melodic balance in the solos.
3:29 "ProbablybecauseI'mJapanese"
absolutely brilliant. these 2 are idols and inspirations in the guitar world. i hope they know how much we appreciate them. holy shit
amo essa banda eles sao um dos melhores
If you think that's the best that matt heafy can do then this is probably the only trivium video you've seen
Matts solo in pull harder is still one of my favorite solo's he's ever done. That and his part in that king diamond shit off the roadrunner united album.
Watch the world burn.... The Decieved..... Like light.... Entrance... Can name so mant
@@edwinmaldonado3191 Dude I love his solo in "in the fire" that he did with King Diamond. Can't believe he was one of the four captain's chosen by roadrunner at 18-19 to feature in the album.

matt is the best man in the world of vocals
Matt loves the same kinds of solos that I love...I have a new idol.
You probably dont give a damn but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Mordechai Brysen Instablaster :)
@Desmond Graham Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Desmond Graham It worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out!
@Mordechai Brysen Glad I could help :)
that slide tap looks like 22 to 24 and back to 22 to me..
Not too sure why people are arguing about Avenged Sevenfold in a Trivium video. love that song
wow. They are such talented guitar players. Wow.
I think I'm in love! Corey where have you been all my life? lol
thats not japanese matt thats just pentatonic
But sounds like japanese
I cringe any time he says that 😂
because corey didnt have a whammy he simply turned the volume down and back up during the slide from 2 frets :L On the record its done with a tremolo however to get the effect on this hardtail guitar he is using that is what he done, simply altered the volume knob whilst playing the note slide.

They are so talented. Under appreciated somehow.
The intro of the guitar on this video sounds like the intro from As I Lay Dying Darkest Night D:
Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu : Beast!
How tf does corey do that Tapping part perfectly? when i do it, the strings kinda muffle.. idk if thats the right word but you know what i mean
Sean 5H Mendes almost like they're muted a bit? I know that feel all too well...
when you actually tap with your picking hand you need to do a slight pulloff with the finger on your picking hand. also, timing is very important to get the right sound. hopefully that helps
David Vivas I'm a dude lmfao
Sean 5H Mendes no we don't know what you mean, its just practice slow, mid, fast /clear sound becomes alone..
2 years late but a compressor pedal helps a ton with that. Obviously it's still about technique, but the short version is the compressor makes all the funky noises coming from your guitar levelled. So that things like tapping for example come through a lot louder as if you were picking the notes.
yeeeah!! corey has an as i lay dying t-shirt :D
3 Best songs off In Waves...
3.Black
2.Caustic are the Ties that Bind
1.Forsake Not The Dream
matt seems like a natural teacher
@vincentXXX666 Matt uses EMG 81 and 85. Corey uses Seymour Duncan Blackouts I think
Is Corey wearing a As I Lay Dying shirt?
"slides up to the D" ... hehehe
@ThatOklahomaGuy
Matt uses the EMG 81 and 85 with chrome covers.
No, that's one of his Signature's actually.
casey sattler I dont believe it is. I cant see distinctive ridges he has along the inside of the v portion. It's smooth like regular king v.
+casey sattler that definitely isn't his signature
His signature inlays are smaller in size and the body of the King V he's using in this video doesn't have the ridges around the "wings" of the guitar
Corey is awesome, especially cos he mentions Guthrie Govan!
trying to learn that asap, that's the only part that i'm struggling with in this song, especially the tapping part... Btw, did learn that from a very strange approach: Acoustic ver -> electric rhytm -> trying to add the lead parts to complete the progress :)
can anyone give more reference to the type of bend matt does at the end of his solo? will be most gracious, thank you :)
No More Tears from Ozzy.
Zakk Wylde does some of that stuff in his solo. 😁
He mutes the strings when he's sheredding.
I'm a guitarist-styled bass player and I lack the strings to do the majority of this lol. I was only taking a few notes from this to see if I could create a sexy bass rift-lick from any of this
I'm not a Trivium fan... but they are pretty cool guys and pretty cool players :)
@pivetlord13 He mainly just plays pentatonics or sweeps, he has admitted before that he isnt much of a soloist.
corey wearing as i lay dying shirt?
so at 3:50 what exactly is that riff called? I'm trying to get it down but I'm looking for a god tutorial video to study. I believe Matt called it a "dad metal riff". But is there any other term?
same question !
I'm trying to find the same thing. Any luck?
Look into some chuck berry riffs and classic rock riffs
TekNacho It's a pretty standard pentatonic lick, basically 99% of all Blues is pentatonics, also most Classic Rock stuff and oldschool Metal.Search for Blues lessons, like playing in the style of Santana,SRV,Jimmy Page,Gary Moore,Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Michael Schenker etc.
Just a pentatonic run, many rock and blues guitarists use it like Slash, Michael Schenker....
what kind of tuning is that? drop c? drop c flat? or what?
what happened to this video? was looking for it everywhere
Where can I get that Trivium dogtag?
Matt, your best and melodic solo is on In The Fire, not the InWavy kind. Just wanted you to know
u guys are the best
@PimpMidStyle do you have any idea what you're talking about?
@MrAGG777 they stopped shipping the magazines with CDs recently and put it all online, so non-subscribers are screwed anyway....
they play clean as hell, even when playing live... like how corey and matt changes in solos. first matt does solo, then maatt does rythm, then solo and rythm again.
Lol Guthrie Govan reference. That's how awesome Corey is.
@stealthsuit58 i'd replace black with either chaos rains or drowning in slow motion
@BurnedFaceShreder emg 81 and another emg i cant remember specifically but there silver topped
Matt tone is just killer
@xTheWorldNeedsAHerox I...was talking about the chord progression in the song, not the solos? Also, I don't base my assumptions on guitarists' skill based on where they placed in a book. the bend/pull off technique matt does at 0:41, i can never do it -____- FML
What happened to them and dean guitars
Whats the technical term for that dady solo? Anyone know
@hawkskullify so are bands in general
0:19 That's in Forsake not the dream as well, but who cares it's a cool transition :)
0:40
LOOK HOW FAST COREY'S HAND MOVES
Thank you very much bro!
ah my bad, I couldn't see it because of my crappy monitor.. however as I described, you can easily achieve the same sound with the method I described in my previous comment.
los amos son mis idolos
Matt always cool!
@TheGooshak also both with insane and awesome guitar players ;)
but it has Seymour Duncan black outs in it :)
if only this was tabbed in an issue of the magazine since no one has tabbed coreys second verse riff. i cant figure it out at all
anyone else notices similarity between this riffs and the riffs on the Forskate Not The Dream solo???
@metalguitarist321 so let's just say that they're both good.
I like Corey's shirt.
What'S that for a Jackson that Corey play's ?
Can't follow the slide tap :( i need some tab
@towardstheshadows he's not exactly new when there's recordings of him from 1993
what is the tuning for this song?
1:36-1:47
Old is hell this video should be made into a short
@xTheWorldNeedsAHerox Oh, certainly. I never said that Syn was better than Beaulieu (waaay the oposite). I just said that Syn wasn't that bad. Just that, 'cause I don't even consider him as an influence or anything. Honestly, I really like the way that Beaulieu plays. He's kinda' an influence for me :) Definetely better than Syn....
best band!
What0s the tuning of this song?
Mat and his unison Bends lol...hes does em in every solo
2:11 to 2:12 sounds like a video has been muting by a guitar world because of something
or just my feeling??
why are people comparing A7X to trivium they are two completely different bands with their own style of music, tbh they're both my favourite bands coz they're different
@sicness10 They were getting bad service from the Dean Company, and Dean Zelinsky left the company. The quality of their guitars have gone downhill ever since. They returned to the companies that endorsed them previously which is Gibson and Jackson for Heafy and Beaulieau respectively
I felt like I could play this song. Then I watched this video. I can't.
Omg did he just say guthrie govan type tapping? That inluence i was not expecting
The way they trade off my god just as good if not better then the greats (Maiden, Priest) they aren't two guitar players they are one and I don't think many other duos can say the same
Sure dude, everything is possible! Just keep on practising, that's how they did it too ;)
@YummyShorty Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB-1 to be exact :D
@TSharr626 yeah! guthrie's my main influence!
@metalguitarist321 how do I know? I've seen them live, he botched quite a bit. And yes, Corey did botch that sweep - but as you said, everyone makes mistakes. I've done both, playing the same solo at two shows on consecutive days One time I had it near - perfect, the second I basically missed every note in a run. So yeah, everybody fucks up at some point.
oh its just a simple little (plays 500 notes a second) yeah thats it lol these guys are amazing...saw em live a few days ago
@hawkskullify Thats how I look at it, not trying to be mean but its true
what tuning do they normally play in?
Standard, Drop D, Drop D#, and Drop B
First records Drop D
Shogun = Drop D and Drop B (7strings)
in waves and vengeance falls = Drop C#
live shows = Drop C# and Drop A# ( they change the tune of the old songs to half-step down)
Wologan Rhodes They don't play in Drop B or Drop A#, they play in Baritone tuning on Shogun and some of the Crusade songs which is BEADGBE and is the STANDARD tuning for a seven string, not a drop tuning, and they play a half step down from that for the seven string songs live.
+Hezify
Slight correction and update:
Ember To Inferno is E standard and Drop D.
Silence In The Snow is in Drop C#, Bb standard 7-string and Drop Ab 7-string.
Pillars of Serpents and When All Light Dies are in drop.
+Hezify silence in the snow
Drop A if I'm not mistaken along with a 7 string version of drop c sharp...
1st riff sounds like Forsake not the dream
100 Pluspoints for mentioning Guthrie Govan!
coreys wearing a as i lay dying shirt haha i have the same one
yes
cool !!!
"I don't have a wah with me." X]
it is easy.... for them. i cant do that shit either. But! all you need is practice. It takes 300-500 repetitions for your body to map the nerves for a specific action... so practice it slow 300 times and see where you are after that :D
AS I LAY DYING t-shirt !!!
I fuckin love
