Painting a Migraine??? Migraine Art

  • Hello my friends!!!
    Today I take adversity and use it as inspiration to create some migraine art. Yes, I have done a migraine painting prior to this as an acrylic pour embellishment. This time I wanted to not only convey what it's like to experience migraine aura visually, but also to paint how I feel during a migraine attack; isolated, disconnected and as if all sensory perceptions are amplified. I'm really not even touching on the pain, mainly because I still wanted to create a beautiful painting not one depicting someone writhing in agony.
    This painting is mainly acrylic with some oil glazing at the end.

    I hope you enjoy the video!!!

    I hope you can find a suitable treatment for your migraines, Lydia. 🫂 And- Big Kudos to your son for being brave for surgery. 💪👍
    Your painting is spot-on! The pixilated areas - without words - is super expressive! Thank you for sharing your talent and your life. We are you, you are us - 😉🙃✌🤟🤜🤛💓

    I, too, suffer with migraines. Of course it's awful and debilitating.
    The painting is awesome and I can relate.

    Fascinating how you conveyed so many of the migraine effects & emotions from the blind fold to the pixels, the feeling of being all alone suffering because that’s a huge part!
    I don’t gravitate to green either unless it’s a nature project but what’s so on point here is green depicts illness. I mean there’s a reason this is a thing ( 🤢 ) any other dark color could be interpreted as depression so green, on point!
    Not to belabor the point but ask your doc about a nutrient deficiency test in search of a migraine cause. I could rattle off supplements but we’re all different. Lastly but most importantly all the BEST WISHES for your boys speedy recovery!

    Hello from Canada Lydia you amaze me girl. Hoping for a fast recovery for your son. My little 31/2 year old grandson broke his leg only one more week left for cast. Also, green is pretty accurate for migraines don't you think, because most times it makes a person feel sick to their stomachs. Thank you for sharing for sharing your talent and little bit of your life.

    • @lydiabroderick867
      @lydiabroderick867  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Tracy! Yes green is appropriate for that reason! I hope your grandson is recovering well. That's tough for someone that young to go through.💞

    Sorry to hear about your son…vibes for quick healing! Fabulous painting! My migraine painting would be all black, with a single eye, and a light pulsating behind it. Or maybe hands squishing grapes. I like your representation better, and hope your migraine days are few to none. 💚💚

    As usual, I love your painting and strongly relate to it. I've suffered from migraines most of my life. Green is a very appropriate color for me because the pain makes me sick to my stomach and dizzy. I find your aura really interesting - mine is either the smell of obnoxious women's perfume or a stale cigar (both of which start the green feeling). At the beginning of this year I started taking turmeric capsules (yes, the spice) twice a day and was surprised to find it really helped me. Apparently, it also helps some people with arthritis because it has anti-inflammatory properties.
    Best wishes to your son.

      Thank you Mary... Not only for the compliment on the painting, but also for sharing your own experience with migraine. I am sorry you also suffer with them, but the Turmeric is something I hadn't heard of for migraine and will be interested to see if it helps me. A lot of people don't realize that migraine isn't just a headache. I'm actually kind of amazed at how many comments I have received from women who suffer from migraine. I had no idea that this painting would be one that so many can relate to. 🙏💞

    I emphasize with you. I've had migraine in the past and it is no fun!! Dark room, can't take any light, or sounds, painful as hell!
    I think you did a good job of trying to depict it, but not sure anything could? I can't even describe it, because unless you actually experience one no-one really knows!
    Love the red & green combination.Maybe a scream would express it, but it would be excruciating to scream while in the middle of the monster!
    By the way one of my sons broke his collar bone also, ugh!
    I hope your son is doing well by now💗

    There is a lot of symbolism you have managed to tie in to this piece. The color, the pixels, the blindfold, the protective position of the arms, the isolation , etc., etc. I had not noticed how little you’ve included green in your prior artwork. You used a lot of your other favorite color, purple, in the past, but not a lot of green. Interesting...Rock on, Lydia, another phenomenal piece of art!!

      Thank you! I don't have an aversion to green at all actually. It's one of my favorite colors. I just never really use green in my palette. Maybe it's because I tend to paint portraits and not landscapes...🤔😄

      @@lydiabroderick867"It isn't an easy affliction to live with", talk about an understatement haha. :)
      I'm actually trying to make a documentary about life with migraines, but my migraines keep slowing me down LOL.
      One of the things I've learned that has really helped me mentally (in dealing with life with migraines), is that Migraine is a disease.
      I didn't know that almost my whole life, and realizing it's an actual disease has really helped combat all the stigmas and feelings of failure and so many other things.
      We aren't exaggerating an ailment, we have an actual disease.

    Do you approach the figure the same way in all of your paintings? If so how do you do it? and if not what are the different ways you bring the figure into the work?

    My migraines are nowhere near that beautiful. If I painted mine it would be purple and have bulging eyes and snakes coming out of his head and every nasty thing you can think of. It’s lovely to think of the migraines being something that beautiful though. Keep up the good work.

    • @lydiabroderick867
      @lydiabroderick867  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      😄 Thank you Linda! Yes! I know right? I decided to not paint the pain aspect. Mainly because I didn't think someone looking agonized by what feels like a screwdriver being driven into their brain would be aesthetically pleasing.😂 Your description is remarkably accurate... I might paint it!
