Migraine Inspired Painting// Transforming suffering into a creative force!!!

  • Ok my friends... This video is inspired by a condition that I have been dealing with for over 2 decades... Migraine. This affliction literally brings me to my knees and puts me out of commission for days sometimes. Which is exactly what happened for two days before filming this video. So, the plan for this video changed. I decided to just go with it and turn something painful into something positive and use it for a creative purpose.
    I hope you enjoy it!!!

    “Consider the uses of adversity” does pretty well describe what you’ve done here! Take a negative situation and make a painting out of it! Bravo!

    Out of nowhere I decided to search for “migraine painting”, and I got exactly that. I’m lucky enough to only have migraines once every few months, but when it’s on, this eye is exactly how I feel. The acrylic pour fits really well with how the aura looks and feels in the moment.

    An incredible painting. It’s so expressive I can feel that pain. What a great idea to transfer the migraine to a visual element of how a migraine must feel. Great eyeballs of fire 😊

    One of my favorites. Why do you use oil glazes? Have ever tried acrylic glazes? I love you and your work. All the comedy at the end are very true about migraines. So glad Karen sent me over.

    • @lydiabroderick867
      @lydiabroderick867  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there!!! Thank you so much! I use oil glazes because 1) they dry slower which gives me more time to work with them 2) they have tremendous color saturation.☺ Acrylic glazes work alright, but it's just a personal preference.

      @@lydiabroderick867 I totally agree. I paint in both and the colors with oil are so much more brilliant. I wanted to know because the first thing I thought when I so acrylic pouring was how could I make this more. I haven't done my first pour but you gave me so much inspiration

    I’m familiar with the feeling of my eyes being pushed out of my head. I can sympathize with you as a fellow sufferer of migraines. Believe it or not migraines are why I now live in the north. My migraines are primarily caused by barometric changes in the weather. When a weather system moves in, especially a storm system, the barometric pressure drops. In the summer when we would get big thunderstorms the barometric pressure drops like a rock. This is when my worst migraines would occur. Not only did my head feel like it was going to explode but I began getting stroke like symptoms with them. The whole right side of my body stops working, the right side of my face droops, etc. The first time this happened I was in my mid twenties and I was driving. I ended up driving off the road. It scared the crap out of me as I am a nurse and I really thought I’d had a stroke. Long story short this was eventually traced to my migraines. It got worse and worse. Nobody knew what to do. One day I was talking to a fellow nurse who worked up north. They almost never have thunderstorms up north and in the winter when the snow storms blow in the pressure drops are gradual and slight. So I moved north. Now I rarely get migraines, maybe one or two a year, and I’m ecstatic about that. An equitable trade for the inconveniences to living so far north in my opinion. Have you ever tried Botox treatments for your migraines? Here in Canada a neurologist injects it into your scalp at certain points. It works quite well for most people but can be expensive.

      That sounds awful. Were they hemiplegic migraines? That would terrify me if it happened. I thankfully don't suffer with those symptoms. I do get aura in the form of a flashing prism like thing in one eye before the pain starts. Mine are triggered by hormones. I started getting them when I was a teenager... They were shorter in duration back then, but after I had my son, they steadily got worse. Now that I'm in my forties I get these 36-72 hour migraines with a one day break before the next one starts. It's like clockwork every 3 weeks.

    • @chandarussell
      @chandarussell ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lydiabroderick867 Every three weeks? That’s awful. Yes my migraines are hemiplegic. They start with my vision flashing like a strobe light and go for there. They fortunately don’t last more than 24 hours. I used to get them every 2 weeks or so but since moving up here I only get them a couple of times a year when winter first starts.

    I love ❤️ your eye 👁! That came out kinda weird, huh? 😅 Anyway…wonderful painting as always Lydia 🥰. Chronic pain sits with me too (arthritis for me-yay!) and there’s something wonderful about using that to create something beautiful. I’m not sure how my poetry translates some of that emotion, but…oh! By the way: “Choke on my gristle.” Oddly the funniest line I’ve heard on a TH-cam video 😊.

      Thank you... I get hormonal migraines and have gotten them for almost 30 years long before I started oil painting. I use a non-toxic thinner made from Orange peel to avoid the fumes associated with oil painting. The other stuff will do some nasty things to people. I avoid it at all cost. Oil pant itself can contain heavy metals and you don't want to get it on your skin because it can build up in the body. I'm glad your sister in law figured out what was wrong!

    I have also suffered from migraines since I was around 15 years old, and today I am 44. That means I have been suffering from migraines for over 29 years, which accompany me at least once every week. I can only stop it briefly with triptans, but it flares up again after the medication stops working. I currently have migraines 2-3 times a week, which last several hours (only thanks to medication, otherwise it would last 2-3 days). From that point of view, I can understand your suffering very well. Do you also take medication? If so, which ones work best for you? I then take anti-emetic medication, triptans and also Voltaren or Mefenacid in combination. Kind regards from Switzerland, Laura❤

    Could it be the paint fumes that induce the migraines? You've had them for 20 years. Doesn't it approx. add up with the number of years you've painted ?
