  • Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition is easily the best version of SF2 that I’ll bet you’ve never heard of!
    The reason is most likely that it came out in 2003, well after the alpha games and street fighter 3. This is a real shame because just like Hyper Street Fighter Alpha, Hyper Street Fighter 2 has the most comprehensive VS mode of any SF2 title.
    If you’ve never heard of this game, or just wondering if it’s worth playing then this review is for you!
    If you're interested in the Capcom fighting collection because this game is included in it, I have a review of it here • Capcom fighting collec...

    In 2022, this game will be included in the Capcom Fighting Collection and the Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 lineup. It seems the game isn't that hard to find anymore. Also this particular version of SFII is the only CPS-2 version where Vega could finally climb the cage again since 3 of his previous CPS-1 versions are included as his New Challengers and Super Turbo versions can't climb it.

      Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES was the first game for me. Eventually I also picked up Super Street Fighter II which I still play to this day thanks to the Snes9x emulator. Using shader plugins like 4xBRZ makes the game feel almost like a modern re-release. I also still play a lot of Weaponlord on the PC too since it's obvious that game was heavily inspired by the Street Fighter II franchise.

    Finally, my thoughts on Hyper Street Fighter 2 is that it was a cool idea but ultimately fell flat on its face. It felt like a rushed job. As you said, the difficulty of the A.I is overpowering and there is no easy way of unlocking Gouki.
    Also, even though you can select all classic versions of each character, their endings are always the Super Turbo versions. This is a missed opportunity as it would have been great to be able to unlock every different version of each characters ending and have them easily selectable afterwards in some sort of gallery. Going on from my last messege about the various ports, there really is no truely definitive version of sf2, it seems whenever capcom do a new port, they add cool additions but remove other ideas from previous ports. Its so annoying.
    What they need to do is make a new version with the concept of hyper, tons of unlockables like the dc port, add the rebalaced changes of hd remix as an option too, and well all the other small changes that made ultra fun.
    Ultra also had an easy 1 button command for newbies to pull of special moves with the joycons but i wasnt done right. When you set a hold back characters special to a single button, it looks rather janky. Once you press the button the character starts walking back automatically to charge up the move rather then do it instantly like in revival on gba.
    Speaking of the gba game, there is also that option that id take from it aswell as the extra time attack, survival modes and extra bonus stages.
    See what i mean, there is something interesting about each port almost. Will we ever get the real definitive version to conquer all other versions? I believe the answer is simply no. For every bright idea capcom adds, they remove other neat ideas. :(

    • @goukigod
      @goukigod  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree from a content point of view there was/is so much potential. With so many games, the amount of content available to include as extras, unlocks or hidden stuff is immense. I’d love to see the children of the atom gouki included too in some future iteration. Never say never though, ultra apparently sold well so I doubt it’s the final version we’ll see. From a pure gameplay point of view though I still think hyper is the most authentic. I liked the philosophy behind the balance changes in HD Remix and Ultra but they feel like interesting spin offs rather than the real deal, and I really hate the HD visuals. Hyper’s changes are more like minor bug fixes rather than changes that effect the meta and it plays the most like the arcade versions. I don’t have the Dreamcast version but I have it on my shopping list! Ultimately I don’t think there is a correct answer. Like you said, there are so many versions, each with there own flavour that your favourite is likely to be influenced by which ever was your entry point into the series. Thanks for the massive comment!

      @@goukigod seems like tou have already done alot of research into the various ports and played thrm yourself. In terms of gameplay, it is a mattervof preference and i personally prefer the HD Remix balance changes over any other version but detest the new art work. They corrected this for the portraits for ultra but thats about it.
      Its true what you say, thry can make everyone happy with their personal preferences by adding each unlockable and every available option previously.
      As for the idea of COTAtom Gouki.... that would be a fucking sweet addition mate. I loved his unique counter attack move and the diving kick which made it into the vs games with more refined control.

      @@goukigod actually hyper does make some pretty significant balance changes. In super turbo, new characters can tech throws while old characters can’t. In hyper, old character’s throws are untecable by any character and new character’s throws can be teched by everyone. • @wonderfulwardy
    @wonderfulwardy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I recommend the Japanese exclusive Dreamcast version. It is a heavily modified version of Super Turbo with cool additions, tweaks, and also brings back the bonus stages once you unlock them. There is theee versions of Gouki aswell. Defo the best version of vanilla Super Turbo yiu can get on consoles. Just make sure you have a decent controller or Arcade Stick.
    Next up, i recommend HD Remix on Xbox 360. It used the basis of the Dreamcast port of Super Turbo and rebalanced the game with new art. However, alot of the dc port extras and unlockables were sadly removed. Why? ;(
    Finally, i do like Ultra Street Fighter 2 on Switch. Being able to take a great version of Super Turbo on the go is amazing but i was gutted that they removed the balance changes from HD Remix.
    Personally i believe that those are the only versions of the game you ever really need. If only Capcom had kept the extras from the dc port and the balances from hd remix (even as an option) when making ultra sf2, thrn this would have been the truely ultra definitive version of sf2, but as it stands... it isnt and i have to own all three.
    Hope that helps

Many other systems already work great - almost every 8+16 bit system, many handhelds, PCE-CD, Mega CD, NeoGeo, CPS1 + 1.5, home computers like C64 and Amiga, etc. There are also some good other arcade cores like Dodonpachi, which is better than every port available and without the hassles and lag of software emulation.

    Turbo 4 isn't just for laughs, Back when this game was competitive, It was actually what the US competitive standard was. Only sometime around 2012-ish did Super Turbo consolidate the competition speed for the outside japan / japan to all be the same... (currently Turbo 3 JP/ Turbo 2 US or in HSF it would be turbo 3) There was a difference because the "turbo 3" was set as competition speed for the machines, but the American machines labeled their speeds differently, Turbo 1 2 3 (4), for JP equaled turbo 0 1 2 and 3 for the US. The turbo 0 in HSF doesn't exist in ST.
    I clearly remember the consolidation because I was very active at that time, and it was a pain to adjust to the new speed, but now, 10 years or so later, I can't go back to the faster speed... yet, I still have some execution-muscle memory holdover that messes me up on the slower speeds for the characters i don't play as often...

Anybody knows the name of this version? I know it was available on arcade internationally mid 90s.

    • The game lacks the classic bonus-stages in the four modes other than SUPERX.
    • Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long, T. Hawk, and even Gouki/Akuma needed CPS1 versions of themselves in the NORMAL, CHAMP, and TURBO modes so the game can feel like an actual dream roster with no modded hack needed, much like Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary.

    Street Fighter II Championship Edition
    Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting
    Super Street Fighter II New Challengers
    Super Street Fighter II Turbo
    Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition."
    If SNK can give online access to every version of samurai showdown game in a collection. Im sure Capcom can do a collection with every version of Street Fighter II. People in this generation can get a better understanding when it comes to the operation of each versiom of Street Fighter II, Example when it comes to the Dynamics of Speed on every version of Street Fighter II & Why boss characters are not utilzed in Street Fighter II world warrior, Oppose to the boss characters used in Championship edit, Turbo Hyper Fighting Etc. Hyper Street Fighter II The Anniversary Edition sums it up because you can select characters from previous versions of Street Fighter II in the same game. Would be nice if this collection had online access to every version of Street Fighter II. Certain people are not aware of fightcade, So to have the Street Fighter Collection on consoles is a alternative.
    Street Fighter II is my favorite game. Next month is the Anniversary thought this would be a perfect collection. Happy 30th Anniversary to Street Fighter II. I know im not the only one who feels this collection should happen, Or take it in considerations the collection makes sense.
