      There actually is a collection with _exactly_ 5 versions of SF2, which is the 30th Anniversary Collection. But it also has a bunch of other SF games, so my argument doesn't stand.
      Other collections are specifically designed to be Street Fighter 2 collections, and even then they have like, 3 versions at max, so there's a lot of nuance there that doesn't really help me either.
      So I concede, as to die on this hill I'd have to move the goalpost millions of times, from 18 to 5 to 3 or maybe 2. So I'd rather admit defeat.

    Dang, I didn't know about that GBA port, looks impressive! One thing about why the HD sprites look jank, other than the artstyle being kinda odd, the individual frames don't respect the position of the previous ones, like a leg positioned slightly to the right in one frame, then slightly to the left in the other, which is why it looks "jank", on top of that, it completely lacks any kind of follow through animation (like clothes or hair bouncing up and down). @allcapcomeverything3866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

    The weird stuff that was in the US version of Revival (Akuma freeze glitch and wrong quotes) wasn't in the JP version.
    I was around for all the HD Remix wtf-ery and one of the big things was that people were weirded out about Akuma being playable online since he was so broken in ST. I remember they made his stun value lower so he gets dizzy quicker, got rid of his "unblockable" hurricane kick (which became a dipswitch), and changed the trajectory of his air fireball. Another thing was that it was fairly widespread that HDR was based on the Dreamcast version of ST, which is still considered the best version today. Like you noted, the reactions for the game were all over the place.
    HDR can be played physically on 360; in fact, the collection it's in, Capcom Digital Collection, just celebrated its tenth anniversary. It also features Final Fight Double Impact, which is much better on 360 since it doesn't have DRM like the PS3 version.
    Ultra SF2 recently faced a huge price spike since it was delisted from the eShop last year. It went up to between $75-100. Capcom put it back up late last year with an instant 50% discount for about a week or so. Since then, the price on the physical version has come down.
    If I had to guess, Capcom either had to renew the license to use the Udon artwork, OR it may have had to do with the entire SF artbook (SF Supremacy) that was in there.

      Someone just told me the European version of Revival is fixed too!

      I had no idea Ultra was taken off the eShop at some point, super weird. There have been rumors lately that it showed up on a SteamDB page recently, so we'll see what the future holds...

      @CmndrAntilles ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GuileWinQuote They used the Dreamcast port because it was an existing C (programming language) rewrite of ST, so vastly more practical to use for doing a version where you're going to make so many changes to the game. If you used the actual original game... well you would basically have to either rewrite it (which the Dreamcast version already was that), or romhack the original and run it on CPS2 emulation. And considering the "upgraded" graphics and music, doing it as a true romhack would be impossible (you could put some kind of interpreter layer on top of the original at best).

    • @VOAN
      @VOAN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue with Hyper SFII is that same issue that plague all 2D MK arcade games. It's fun if you play it with another human players cause if you play that game single player all the opponents will be in their Super Turbo style and unless you play that style too to balance things out you'll be at a disadvantage. Unless you're really good with the older versions of the character you might have a good time with it though.

    I do have a tiny request. Is there any way you could talk about either of these games?
    A) Virtual Hiryū No Ken
    B) Vs.
    Both of them are PS1 fighting games and notoriously obscure, more so the former rather than the latter. I think they could use some of your love and expertise, and that you'd enjoy them (especially the first one).

    Ken's stage is awesome, M. Bison's stage REALLY fits the story and character, in my opinion. It would be even better if every one of the four kings had a stage set in the base, you could even give Vega a fence for his, and it's like every fight you walk deeper into the lair until....BISON!!!(DUN, DUN, DUN!)
    BUT MY MAN GUILE!!😂🤣 I guess it's more funny to me cuz my mom was in the Air Force and I grew up around these things, so I know, even to show off with a Harrier (which ostensibly this is), you NEVER EVER EVER get that close to rocks or people. Like, what are you doing with that 150 million dollar piece of equipment, son?! Yes let's fly it extremely close to a rocky bridge that our likely commander is fighting on. These are GOOD decisions. I like to think about a cheap, cheater alternate version of Guile telling his opponent, "What, oh the jet? Yeah, it's part of my super move."😂🤣

      @VOAN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or just lose one match then Akuma will never appear ever again. The dude will only appear if you kept on winning before facing M. Bison, become a loser once and he'll never bother you. If you don't want to lose just get the Japanese version and you can fight him. Oddly enough you fight him at M. Bison's stage and not at his own stage, the memorable cutscene where he would appeared to kill M. Bison with the Shun Goku Satsu from the original Super Turbo was also cut even though Akuma in this game could fully perform the Shun Goku Satsu during a match.

    Ah yes.... HD Remix. So many years of joy. My gateway into Tournaments. :)
    If I recall correctly, HDR was one of the first games to get Microsoft to increase the Size limit of the XBLA games. My memory is rusty, but I think the XBLA Size limit Cap before for XBLA games was like 150MB (Around 50MB when XBLA first started off!). HDR came in at about 367MB. So Microsoft gave Capcom some exceptions for HDR's download size. Sirlin wanted to add the Classic Backgrounds but Capcom said no. I can only guess it was due to HDR already blowing past the size limit Microsoft allowed.
    A nice little Guiness World Record sort of deal is HDR was the first fighting game on consoles to add easy one button mapping for the Punch and Kick buttons on Arcade Sticks/Controllers.

Though I don't think he's a bad person like a lot of people seem to believe. It does mean people like to rag on him though.
      From what I understand, Ono is a pretty divisive figure too, and a lot of people seem to consider his name synonymous with the negative parts of SFV and MVCI. So it's not like he's escaped criticism.

    The actual game name Violent Ken appeared was called SVC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom and his character in Ultra is a mixture of that character plus adding the whole Bison brainwashing, though yeah that was clearly inspired by the movie. But yeah I found the information in this video to be very accurate. This June, Hyper would see a re-release as part of Capcom's Fighting Collection on all major platforms, but no HD Remix or Ultra, but maybe one day we might see those along with Revival on some kind of compilation in the future. It is an interesting idea to make a compilation of sequels to a sequel that was intended to be the ultimate version of that game. Knowing Capcom they 'may' see this as an opportunity to make more money from their beloved Street Fighter series, who knows?
