Minimum 120 cases per shift, 9.5 hrs including break. Cab picks you up 2 hours before the shift and moves out from the office 30 minutes after the shift. So, its basically a 12 hour shift. To top it all, labour is cheap in India which is reflected in our salaries. Tea vendors call us sir but earn more than us.. Aur aaj kal cab teen bar miss hua toh bye bye cab service ek mahine ke liye. Resubscription lena hai toh do pointer ke saath. Jeene do jeene do.

1st call center I worked in was terrible. People arguing and some actual fights, it smelled like mj and one of the managers got arrested in the parking lot one day. Alot of the reps knew some trick to not get any calls so they would sit around and get paid while a lot of us were b2b calls and no the bosses didn't say anything about it, most were hooking up with eachother.
I worked in a couple nice CC's but the best one was beautiful, it had game rooms, library, mini hospital, relax stations with private beds for naps, a full cafeteria, a gym and a ton of other really nice amenities.
My last job was taking calls from home which was really nice.
The worst thing about CC jobs, is that when customers are mad, they call in and yell and berate the very person who is answering the call and probably going to help them. A little kindness goes a long way. You don't have to act like a dick to get what you want. Also, demanding a supervisor does not mean you can get your way for everything. Businesses have rules and screaming at someone is not the way around those rules.

I have to say, even though I've had better jobs, one thing I like about the call center is that it's ON THE PHONE. I would rather deal with customers that way than face to face. In retail or patient registration, etc, you have to deal with the faces and sour looks of everyone BEHIND the person you're waiting on. With the phone job, you literally can focus on one at a time. I know it's hard, but I'd rather be sitting at the phone than standing at a counter

    • @GameOn71213

To me i an handle screaming customer and them being rude. But let me tell you what I can't handle it's been 12 years for me.
Their slow systems, their systems freezes up while you're talking to a customer, then they tell you, you have to restart or reboot your computer. Then they tell for every minute you are offline this will get taken from your salary all because they can't fix their systems.
Let me not get started on the asshole managers, not every manager is a good manager.
Most of them are call center agents that were taken off the phones and given the team leader job anyways, most of them don't know labour laws and are uneducated, plus they become abusive and like harassing their team members, also they are all up in your business when you get sick, they wanna ask you about why you're sick? And legally you don't have to disclose why you are sick. But these fools know nothing, Manager's walk around like wardens yelling "you're calls are too long" "wrap that up" "stop talking", it's all a lie I tell you, they tell you when you start you will get help, there will be mentors and coaches, but even those fools get annoyed when you ask too many questions. The higher ups and the team leaders are just there to watch you like you're in prison.
And they have this no cellphone policy, but let me tell you some of them, have scanners some security will scan for cellphones when you go to the bathroom. I don't know how you will ever know if there is an emergency at your house or if your kid is sick or even is someone died, cause you are locked off from the world.
The constant shift changes, and vacation days being cancelled it causes exhaustion.

@@GameOn71213 sorry to hear that Chantall. I worked in cellphone operator, so the system was okay. We get coached when our KPI score is low by team leaders, managers only monitoring. I guess all call center have no cellphone rules during online, we can get it when we take a break like 45mnt meals, 15mnt free time (toilet, etc). For too long calls, usually my team leader will join to our conversation with customer but the customer can't hear him, he'll tell us what to do (it happen when we got trouble with customer too).

I don't know if this is a real call center. I worked at a third party vendor call center that handles Walmart account. For the past eight months I struggled with work life balance since I only have one day off while the rest of six days are all work days. Each individual day has two hours pre shift and post shift. Yes we are paid but also burnout. I am currently in the process of completing my job notice since I can no longer handle my stress. CSATS are the main priority but honestly the customer is left on limbo about what happens in their order.
I'll try to make my last day work. On my last day, I will tell the customers honestly about what the status of their order and what happens next with no sugarcoating. Wish me luck I can survive my notice period

People you will always find at the call center:
    1) The mom
This is the person with a tote under her desk that carries anything from feminine products to Tylenol, and even down to snacks and food. This is the person who reminds you to take a break and occasionally forces you to pause and take a quick break with a snack or coffee.
    2) The lovable weirdo that you have to bring into reality before someone slaps them
This person doesn't care about people and is socially awkward and off-putting. People hate them of course. It only takes that ONE person to start to treat them like everyone else who gets along treat each other. They will be puzzled like a deer in headlights at first. But little by little, you will notice that they robotically mimic social behavior and eventually their weird and quirky internet or nerd humor will start to warm people up to them. Suddenly one day you look and they're being social and laughing and greeting everyone like everyone else. You get a swelled sense of pride for them, but you keep it to yourself because you dont want to ruin it by making them feel awkward and recoil.
    3) The higher up who isn't on the phones anymore and forgot the struggle
This person normally has some kind of job that requires them to work with you and listen to your feedback to bubble up issues. No matter what you say and prove, they will approach it as if the gaping flaws in the system are somehow YOUR fault as the agent. Months down the road when the thing you have been warning them about embarrasses the right person, like the director of the department, suddenly this person "knows what the issue is" and gets credit for it. You learn early to go AROUND them and make yourself vocal to the appropriate leadership. For added razzle dazzle, do it in front of them. Watching them pop a blood vessel is rewarding.
    4) The gift that god left to all women
This guy walks around as if his ratings and evaluations are based on how smooth he is with women.
    5) The horny old lady
This is an older hen-like figure in the department who is often looked as sweet and endearing. And she is. Normally their name carries a "Ms." in front of it. But when a lot of people aren't around, she makes subtle little inappropriate jokes.
    6) The "ive worked at many call centers" guy
This guy argues with the trainers about how "we used to do it at my old job".
    7) The cool uncle
This is usually a mid level guy who is considered part of the leadership team, but isn't actually a manager or anything. Super dependent and trustworthy. Makes tons of time for agents because he remembers the struggle. Although he may be a little older than most, he still cracks the same jokes as everyone and you know that he's not a rat.
    8) The church lady
You gotta watch your mouth around Ms. XXXXXX.
    9) The repeater mom
You see this person a few months out of the year due to maternity leave and medical leave. But when she returns, she's always welcome home. 2 of the last 4 baby showers were hers.
    10) The TOO excited about diversity manager
Usually a higher up, they are always in a hurry to celebrate other cultures at inappropriate moments. They just wanna show that they are on your side. But the reality is that everyone just gets along and doesn't need extra prodding. This person feels that peace and balance is fragile.
    11) The guy who doesn't cuss, but cusses to show you he's tough and "not one of them".
Usually an older guy, this guy suffers from "substitute teacher syndrome". People are polite and cordial with him, although he doesn't get invited to out of work hang outs. He acts like an undercover cop and doesn't need to.
    12) The stand out star that changes
She's very talented and everyone respects her and goes to her for help and she rises as a star. It works, and she gets promoted off the phones and becomes a manager. Now she doesn't talk to any one of you.
    13) The Anti HR
This person specifically comes to a new job and doesn't make any effort whatsoever to learn how things are done in the environment. They dont learn anything and yet argue with everything. All of their energies went into learning the company policy so they knew what to say/do to get away with not working and to constantly be off. Everyone knows its BS but no one wants to get sued. Typically uses race/sexual orientation/disability to shield themselves from backlash for their deplorable behavior.
    14) The influencer
This person watches a lot of TikTok and thinks they're coming to work at a posh office with pool tables and a quinoa bar. They spend more time making selfie videos of them casually passing by coworkers. But when the time comes to roll up their sleeves and get it done, they call out. Often goes on vacation 6-7 times a year. And that's great for them. But they are not dependable. So when you dont rely on them or work with them or bring them in on projects, they cry foul and discrimination. These people dont typically last longer than a year to a year and a half.

In my call center days, it was a mix bag. Depended on the day and time of the year.
But honestly, there are SOME aspects of call center work I miss at times. In my call center days, we had to work 1 Saturday out of the month. And although it was soul draining because Saturdays went by slower than molasses, during times of the year when it was slower, especially during the holidays, we'd sit around like this. It was nice and quiet. We'd talk and joke around and bring food and share with each other. Get lunch orders. Talk about family and life. The newest movie or video games or great TV shows. Usually the manager on duty didnt give a damn because they didnt want to be there either. Plus I lucked out and went to a place that generally had decent people as managers who would join in the conversations with us and sometime order us food.
Call centers dont HAVE to be bad as long as you keep in mind that your mental health comes first. You'll never make it if you dont have thick skin because let's be honest, people are bat shit insane. But sometimes you DO have these weird little interactions with the human on the other end of the line that go beyond the job and it leaves you thinking "wow, that was a decent human being". I used to get people who would ask to speak to my manager to let them know that I am a great employee.
