The most absurd thing of MJ's 11 seasons in the top 50 is that those are ALL his full seasons with the Bulls, the only ones missing are his second season where he broke his foot and missed a lot of the season, and his comeback sesson when he joined the team halfway through after playing baseball. Literally every time he got to play the whole thing, he had a top 50 sesson of all time
Broken foot he only played 18 games and he was on limited minutes when he came back cause the team didn’t want to win to get a lottery pick. When he came back from baseball is wasn’t even half way through. He only played 17 games that year. That’s less than a quarter. So 2 seasons he played less than a quarter of the games both times

@@OMG-si3wn Those 18 assists would account for a minimum of 36 team points in addition to the 20 points the player scored, and a theoretical max north of 70 if you assume mostly 3's with contact. In reality, 18 assists could net a team between 45 and 50 points assuming a handful of 3's plus a couple of and 1's. The person with the 20/18 is directly responsible for +60, easily, whereas the 35/5 is closer to 45, with a theoretical max of just 55 points assuming all 5 of those assists lead to a 3+1. In conclusion, I'd say the 20/18 game is objectively better by a large spread.
@John Doe I agree. The all defensive team selection being 10 pts is also rather biased as Jordan kept winning that award despite clearly not being the best defender on not the best defensive team. It's also just odd to weigh a subjective defensive award so highly when everything else is using objective measures (mvp voting was not used for example). Contaminating them with counting metrics and other stuff without much thought to weighting or any regard to efficiency is purely for entertainment purposes and should be treated as such

Same here, I used exactly the same phrase in a comment above - blessed. It's hard to describe just how good he was and exactly what we did witness to those who have not lived through it..
Seeing the scores MJ received makes sense... Most people who watched him in that era can't even describe how meteoric his talent was. He became a global icon and catapulted Nike into a brand empire. In fact even in Asia indiviuals know more about ronaldo then Jordan, excluding basketball nations like China.
My main issues with this is that none of the stats are normalized based on era(points per game for each season have varied a lot and points should be worth more in lower scoring eras like 1995-2008 where the league average was under 100 points per game) Also assists are scored the same as points when on average they're worth somewhere between 2-3 points varying between era. Efficiency isn't looked at at all(not just scoring, but assists to turnovers too) It was an intriguing video to watch, but it clearly favors Jordan with this version of scoring. I think it would be really interesting to see this template fleshed out more and redone.
There has never been even a single video by Jimmy where I didn't get goosebumps when it concludes. Whenever he drops, I know I'm about to witness a masterpiece full of knowledge. Really appreciate his hard work. Crazy that we are getting it for free.
Agree. I like how all of this content interconnects with the previous videos. I feel like he's starting to set us up for a drop of a season score-based "best career" video in the future that is going to drip with insinuations about why longevity-based statistics might also be worth considering in some facets of the goat debate.
I took 3 things from this video... How much I miss videos from Jimmy David Robinson is criminally underrated Michael Jordan will never be knocked off his throne as the GOAT
This actually puts things into perspective for generations of people, including myself, who were too young to understand MJ's greatness and were only old enough to see LeBron's. I just turned 30 and was too young to see for my own eyes why MJ was everybody's "GOAT." I had to either listen to them or decide for my own eyes by watching LeBron.
Every time Jimmy drops a video like this it always is a great reminder of how insane MJ was, and how nobody, Even LeBron was close to as dominate as MJ was.
It really depends on how you look at it…he did dominate but was that really his prime? His best season was 1988. Only 4 years into the league, his greatness and influence is not questionable but nobody, and again NOBODY will ever dominate as much as mj did. And only played 11 full seasons with the Bulls. 2 he either got badly injured or retired and came back early. His last 2 seasons were the Wizards seasons. So, technically, MJ was on this list throughout his entire prime.
If you take out every season in the top 50 that happened after Jordan retired from the Bulls, you are left with 21 seasons. So basically, in NBA history up until '98, Jordan had 11 of the top 21 seasons all time (by this metric) and to further break it down - 7 of the top 10 and 4 of the top 5. Insane.

Nope. The guy with 10 scoring titles is still the greatest offensive force. The same guy who still holds the regular season and playoffs scoring average in the defense-oriented league. Way way greater force than Steph.
Everytime I see these charts showing numbers and statistics, I always think "Well, MJ will be in the top...'cause you know... MJ, right?" And then... there's MJ. Really love your videos man, keep up the great content🤘
@@sportbrawl480 Definitely, would be extremely difficult too. That player would need to be considered one of the best offensive players ever while being an all time great defender
Jokic, Giannis, and Luka be in these with legends speaks volume of what they can potentially do in the years to come... And I'm glad, cuz I wasn't even alive during MJs time. Hopefully I, at the very least, get to feel those experiences with these players...
The best thing about that time was no one was fixated on one player being over another. Just appreciate the players we got now! Being an all time great is somehow a knock nowadays!?! Smh.
Unfortunately you're never going to see anything like Michael Jordan ever again. In every possible way that dude was a statistical anomaly. At least we have old recordings of all of his games
@@sidjones16 The big thing that stands out to me from growing up watching MJ was that almost every team had an all-star or future HOF or 2. It's not as though MJ just walked all over everyone without a challenge. He was going against many of the greatest to play the game, in their primes....and still came out on top, far and away better than the rest. And they still can't touch him today. One day someone might but after how long? As of April 2023, it will have been 20 years since MJ's last game. 20 years and no one is touching him. Even if he gets surpassed somehow, the fact that he has held it for AT LEAST 20 years without anyone overtaking him is another testament to his greatness.
Man this is updated yet still mj on the top. Just like the reaction of the first timer specially the young ones who watched mj highlights, "he's different" as they goes.
You make it harder and harder for me to say Lebron is the GOAT😂. You are by far my favorite sports analyst ever….and it’s not even close. The dedication you have to compile some of the fairest and detailed stats, graphs, and charts to answer some of our biggest NBA debates is other-worldly. Keep up the amazing work sir!!!👏👏👏
It's really just about perspective, you could say if MJ was playing as long as LeBron, he wouldn't be as good as LeBron. Same way you could say LeBron isn't good as MJ because he doesn't have 6 rings.
@@spaceb6y Hah, if MJ "Load managed" and had all the advanced PED's that Lebron has access too, not to mention recovery technology he'd be even further ahead than he already is.
You should watch a great video Jimmy made on the GOAT debate. Its a great view point which takes into account numbers, graphs, stories etc. th-cam.com/video/IVdJ6Z9jluc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JxmyHighroller
One of the very interesting things I found on the list is the fact that in 1997 karl Malone was one spot above Michael Jordan in the same year on the list and Malone got the MVP over him. He was only .1 ahead. That would make 1997 statistically the closest MVP race of all time
The Bulls were a 60-win team, and MJ individually dominated Malone in virtually every advanced metric (PER, OBPM, DBPM, WS/48 etc.) on top of winning the scoring title and making 1st Team All-Defense
Michael Jordan has the set bar so high. He is the golden standard of basketball. He is absolutely the best player ever. The most complete player ever. In a tier all by himself.
@@gungij2728 When??? He's always had an all-star on his team. Let's not forget that mj absolutely shits on his accolades and has way better advanced stats. While also being the best scorer ever a top 10 defender and a top 30 playmaker probably even higher
This video truly put MJs greatness into effect. However, I also think this video displayed Jokic and his genius highly. In the peaks section, he may have a top 3 peak OAT if he plays well for 2 more seasons. From his 1st MVP season to a couple more. And if he wins a chip then he's taking over
@@aretwodeetoo1181 The chip was irrelevant to the point of the video, but was relevant to my comment. I was noting his greatness, and if he won a chip, people would have everything they need to value his greatness

Sorry but... umm... what? The USA has 5% of the world's population. 330m people... Europe has 770m people. Agreed we've seen some incredible hoopers out of Europe. None more so than the collection today, but let's get real. Basketball is an American dominated sport and always has been.
@@guiwhiz If population mattered the USA would have amazing football (soccer) team considering they have more than 5 times population of France. Basketball is barely played throughout Europe. Only Balkans, Baltics, Spain and to some extent France care about basketball.
I love that the Top 4 players in the MVP race are Slovenian, Serbian, Greek/Nigerian, & Cameroonian. It'll be nice to see a great influx of players from these regions around the globe make up a larger population of the NBA in the future
@@guiwhiz Europe has a bigger population, but basketball is no where near as popular in Europe as in the US, Football (the worlds most popular sport) is by far the most popular sport in Europe and this is not the case for few countries where sports like basketball or else are more popular, and most of the time that other sport is slightly more popular. So the comparison you make is not viable at all as it lacks depth and knowledge about the region, but thank you for trying. p.s. Europe has slightly less than 750M population.
Worth noting are the rules of the league and style of play. I'm not saying it's easier to score these days... but it is. The fact that MJ played during an era when 85-93 scores were normal really makes them pop and boggle the mind.
I enjoy your content. As a hobby I conducted my own research and created algorithms like this and found that Jordan’s peak and overall career acclamation are in a separate galaxy. Even his advanced metrics hold up to the test of time. Even without comparing eras, it’s tough to not say that objectively he’s not the greatest ever. Keep making great videos. I’m a huge fan!
And the only reason those other 3 seasons with the bulls weren’t up there was cause he played 22 games in 86 with a foot injury the same year he dropped 63 on the Celtics in the playoffs and 94 he was retired and 95 he only played 1/4 of the season. MJ’s entire bulls tenure could’ve been on this top 50 list that’s wild
These videos need to be used as evidence when presenting your case for goat debate. I tend to get a new level of respect for MJ every time I watch one.
I mean, if he counted other stats in the video, it wouldn't look any better for Lebron. Jordan has more steals per game and the same stats in blocks per game. If you count winning the championship and MVP, that would boost MJ's other seasons. No one will ever be able to argue against Lebron being the iron man of basketball. But having the best longevity doesn't = best of all time.
@@danielgloyd4529lebrons greatness is in his longevity, no one can deny that. But MJ's greatness is being the greatest ever to do it when he played even though he played much less seasons.

What? Wilt was very consistent throughout his career. But even if you think he wasn't, what's that got to do with the argument we're talking about?
Wilt had great stat years against inferior talent, during a different era, with significantly different rules.
@RatedRex1 nobody has superior talent to Wilt, so that statement about talent is irrelevant. Everyone had less talent than him. And different rules, yes, of course, a lot of them made specifically for him, to make it harder to score. So i don't see your point.

@@Someone-hi1nt Tell me you never watched robinson play without telling me you never watched him play.
Robinson was the most dominating two-way Center of his time and yes that includes Hakeem. His 1993-94 season is a top 5 non-Wilt Chamberlain season in history by a player. Only MJ and Shaq have ever done better (and this is based on 3rd party, objective metrics...not my own opinion). Heck....Admiral has 4 top 100 seasons by ANY NBA player since 1970....how many does duncan have? ZERO. Duncan had a luxury Robinson never had....a good system that didn't need him.
Duncan was carried for over half his career by parker, ginobili and later kawhi among many others in the Spurs well-oiled machine (you could put almost ANY dominant big man from the 90s or 00s on that team and win 4 titles). Robinson was a better leader, better defender, better scorer and better player. What he never had before Duncan arrived was Gregg Popovich coaching and for the most part he didn't have Gregg's magic touch in free agency and the draft.
You mean to tell me that if Robinson and Duncan switched eras that Duncan would have won a championship and that Robinson wouldn't have won 5? Because I'm here to tell you you are wrong.
Robinson was playing with 43 year old Moses Malone, Vinny Del Negro and JR Reid while Duncan played with HOF Tony Parker, HOF Manu Ginobili, HOF Kawhi Leonard, All-Star Stephen Jackson, Danny Green, Bruce Bowen, Horry and Kerr among MANY MANY others.
Duncan's claim to top 10 are his rings...2 of which were won thanks to others. He stopped being MVP caliber by the time he was 28 (robinson was busy winning scoring titles and MVPs at that age)....he latched on to the spurs for the next decade.
Also LMAO NO ONE considers Duncan a top 5 player. NOBODY. Top 5 are reserved for Jordan, Kobe, James, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Wilt and Bill....sometimes Shaq. If you had to poll people Duncan doesn't even register on the radar of top 5 outside of San Antonio.
So, don't start.
@@scottb3034 im not reading all that, but robinson never won sht before duncan arrived, duncan turned the spurs who never even had a finals appearance to a franchise thats 5-1 in the finals and had 17 straight years of 50+ wins (besides the 50 game lockout season in 99 where they were on pace for 62)... he has 2 mvp awards, 1 more than robinson, and while never won a dpoy was a better defender career wise than robinson and made 15 all defense and 15 all nba teams... 3 fmvps btw, david has 0, if you legitimately think david robinson is a better player than tim duncan career wise, i dont even know what to tell you, peak wise sure i wont argue against that

Proverb 18:2 comes to mind. "Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions."
I'll just say a few things: He won more MVPs because he played in a weak era (No MJ, Magic or Hakeem to steal mvps) and he played like 6 years longer than Robinson to accrue more defensive hardware (Because of the Navy Robinson started at 24 and ended at 37. He had a catastrophic leg injury that hurt his career--and allowed Duncan to be drafted there). Robinson has a block title, rebound title, DPOY and better defensive averages. In no way is Duncan better.
Couple things: Kobe actually won back to back as the main guy (and as many total rings), he also only won 1 MVP thanks to steve nash and was more relevant than Duncan for longer in their careers. Duncan had the fortune of a much better team most years thanks to Pop. That said he wasn't even the best player from that era....Shaq probably was. Also you are confusing the consensus most popular choices for top 5 for my choices. I don't have Kobe, Bill or Shaq top 5...but they are higher than Tim.
MJ, Magic, Larry, Wilt and Hakeem are the top 5 of all time. Shaq could be argued. Lebron James isn't in the conversation for colluding with Wade and running to other superstars for help too often and failing too often.

Goat talk
No one should ever be compared to him. Absolutely by far the best player ever.
@@LegoFilms511 and it’s gonna be a while till we see a player surpass him
@@sportbrawl480 Definitely, would be extremely difficult too. That player would need to be considered one of the best offensive players ever while being an all time great defender
There's a reason why MJ is widely considered the GOAT. Kudos to highflyer for doing this much research.
It seems like almost every single video Jimmy makes, constantly reinforces (with facts) just how untouchable MJ is
And I guarantee you he's not trying to do that as a LeBron fan
MJ is getting under appreciated as time goes by. But those who witnessed his prime knows he is the 🐐
Once again proving what we all should know by now 🐐
Jokic, Giannis, and Luka be in these with legends speaks volume of what they can potentially do in the years to come...
You continue to show why there really shouldn't be a GOAT debate at all. Great vid
didnt know you were a ball fan mate. need more bf from you
@@ry_an. yeah love ball and jxmys videos are awesome
@@spaceb6y sure but my perspective as a sportsperson is peak vs longevity always. I respect people who value longevity though, it’s hard to do.
@@spaceb6y No facts and numbers don't lie PEOPLE DO
You should watch a great video Jimmy made on the GOAT debate. Its a great view point which takes into account numbers, graphs, stories etc.

This is definitetly more fuel on the MJ fire. Damn. Everytime someone deep dives we get to see more absurdity from that dudes career.
One of the very interesting things I found on the list is the fact that in 1997 karl Malone was one spot above Michael Jordan in the same year on the list and Malone got the MVP over him. He was only .1 ahead. That would make 1997 statistically the closest MVP race of all time
While the Bulls won 69 wins. That was a stupid MVP race. There was no race.
@@lamefart I would hope you could win wins
The Bulls were a 60-win team, and MJ individually dominated Malone in virtually every advanced metric (PER, OBPM, DBPM, WS/48 etc.) on top of winning the scoring title and making 1st Team All-Defense
If you do not exclude the 60's, Wilt Chamberlin DOMINATES this video. It amazes me how anyone can keep doing this to that baddddddd man.
Michael Jordan has the set bar so high. He is the golden standard of basketball. He is absolutely the best player ever. The most complete player ever. In a tier all by himself.
All the lebron fans salty af 🤣
Bron came back 3:1 deficit and is leading the league in scoring at 39 years old dawg he the goat stop it fam
Jordan didnt win a ring without scottie bron did it all alone fam
@@gungij2728 When??? He's always had an all-star on his team. Let's not forget that mj absolutely shits on his accolades and has way better advanced stats. While also being the best scorer ever a top 10 defender and a top 30 playmaker probably even higher
@@gungij2728 Lebron won a ring alone are you sure?
This video truly put MJs greatness into effect. However, I also think this video displayed Jokic and his genius highly. In the peaks section, he may have a top 3 peak OAT if he plays well for 2 more seasons. From his 1st MVP season to a couple more. And if he wins a chip then he's taking over
I'm confused, chip won't measure in these stats. And if it did Jokic would be lower. What's he taking over exactly?
@@aretwodeetoo1181 The chip was irrelevant to the point of the video, but was relevant to my comment. I was noting his greatness, and if he won a chip, people would have everything they need to value his greatness
@@maximtodorovic6592 Not as highly as you think ("taking over"). Jokic is obviously great. Obviously not in contention for GOAT (unless he pulls a Tom Brady).
Europe has become such a huge force for the NBA. It's incredible to see all these great players from other countries gain recognition.
@@zekohuehue I mean if population mattered then Asia would be goated in football and basketball
The fact that Jordan has 11 of the top 50 and SIX in the top 10 and controls the top is nuts.
Hes the Super Goat
Jxmy is biased
@@thelegendoof8744 he’s literally a Lebron fan lmaoo
@@professionalcurrysexual he’s not really. He just says that
These videos need to be used as evidence when presenting your case for goat debate. I tend to get a new level of respect for MJ every time I watch one.
The final part was based on a 5 year stretch. Bron is still going in year 20. The argument will always be short greatness over sustained consistency
@eno eh i still have jordan number 1 and lebron number 2, and I don't think anyone can take their places.
@@hansennoah1 Playing against farmers yeah
I’m not an MJ fan but there cannot be a debate the man was something else playing in a physical and more defensive era he dominated all aspects of the sport at rookie level all the way up to his prime and despite having great teammates this proves his individual performances were tremendous and his teammates just helped him post season to get 6-0 and have the rings he deserves because he is unreal only point Lebron has over MJ is maybe worse teams taken to to finals, passing, iq and longevity after that it’s all MJ. 🐐
MJs IQ is superior to Lebrons and even though LBJ is a more willing passer, Jordans passing is criminally underrated
You’re on cocaine based on a lot of your ignorance on Michael Jordan.
@@linorestrepolobo3620 When MJ was told to pass, he averaged 12 assists per game, with 25 points. But if you have the greatest scorer in NBA history, you let him do his thing. Cause... Well... Hes the best at it.
