@Nathan J Haug this vid was made before Luka’s performance against NYK. I bet he’d at least be in consideration now after that game alone. After all he’s done already, being the only 60-20-10 player in history, and everything he still has to offer, I could see Luka making this list in 3 years.
Contemporary players are vastly superior than those from the past due to three factors: Internationalism, skill advancement and tactical sophistication. My pyramid would have Steph on tier one - he is the greatest player on the greatest dynasty of the most competitive era. On tier two you have LeBron, KD and Kawhi. Luka is on tier three and rising. One can build an epic collection of NBA greats among active players only.
Aside from All NBA 1st team selections he just doesn't have the accolades yet unfortunately. He will probably retire as tier 1 though. Potentially, we never know for sure.

If you want to know who played against tough opponents during the finals, well using that pyramid system, and awarding points in reverse order, Five points for tier one, four for two, three for three, two for four, and one for five and by adding the player total by the amount of finals series they faced player you are tallying. Well, it goes something like this, Jordan 11 (note I demoted Magic to a 5 during that series being that he was older, without Kareem and just coming back for HIV), giving him 8 for Malone (4 two times for facing him twice in the finals), Stockton gets a 2. Barkley adds another 1 for a tally of 11. Kobe gets a 2 for Garmet but that's all, this is mostly because teams like the Pacers, Nets and 76's did not have much talent. Next we have LeBron James who gets, 9 from Durant, 12 from Curry, Duncan adds 9, Dirk 2, Kewhi adds another 2, for the tally of 34. So its Kobe: 2 Jordan: 11 LeBron: 34
I love the content you put out bro, Bron and MJ fan at heart and I can’t hardly ever dispute your opinion. I just have to point out that Magic and Bird were drafted in the 70s but that portion of eras was wild when you consider the depth of skill in the 80s. Love the channel

I think David Robinson might deserve a bump up, could be my bias as a Spurs fan but let me argue it. Hall of Fame, 10 time all-star and all NBA, 8 time all-defense, won ROY, DPOY and MVP once, 2-time champion. Before his injury he averaged 26/12/3 with 4 blocks. His difference maker for me though is that he has a rebounding, blocking, and scoring title (which he put up 71 in a game to earn), each one once. He is one of just three players in the entirety of NBA history to have gotten all three, his elite company being Kareem and Wilt.
He should be tier 3 imo. But I’d rank a lot of his lower guys (Rob, KG, Clyde, Wade) higher because they’re my tier 3 group of guys that all did well on both ends but may not have peaked individually as high as the ones above them
I’d put Tim duncan on tier 2. Not the flashiest career but I think he’s one of the most valuable players of all time. Manu and tony aren’t hall of famers without him. A career that I wish I could’ve enjoyed more.
@@neandertalero Yeah, I agree. Out of all these players, maybe only Russell was as good as a leader of men as Tim Duncan while also having dominance unlocked from the first minute he stepped on the league up until the end, only a few other players achieved that, probably only Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Doctor J, MJ, Lebron, Magic and Robertson.
That's my one problem with the list, I'd switch Kobe and Tim or have em both tier 3, and not sure if I would have Jokic or Kawhi I gotta sit on that one.

I think there might be a little bit of a recency bias here on this. I am not at all denying the greatness of giannis. I think he is absolutely phenomenal. However I think we're over hyping him a tiny bit and forgetting our NBA history. I think by the time all is said and done, there's a good chance that he'll be in the top 10 of all time. But as it stands right now, one title and two MVPs, defensive player of the year, by age 28 or 29, isn't enough to make him stand out from the rest of that crowd. But at the same time it puts him in some absolutely incredible company. But I don't think we should be gobsmacked at what he's accomplished when tons of other players have done it before him.

As others mentioned, i think this should be revisited every so often. I think every 3-4 years is a good choice. -I mean just look at how Giannis, and Jokic broke out to become two Great players. Kawhi had a legacy defining run a year after he made this list. Not much besides a potential break out star really happens each year. -but in 3-4 years maybe a new dynasty was formed after one fell, a new dominant player has come out and started putting up amazing numbers. KG underachieved, like that one Celtics title with Allen and pierce saved all their careers and is the reason doc is still coaching. How tf can u only win one title with that roster.
Advanced stats and tracking show Garnett as one of the most elite players on both ends of the floor. He was a one man army and had a huge impact in the games he played. Too bad his career was cut short by injuries. I think he should be one tier higher on the pyramid, maybe even two.

I think you did an impeccable job with this pyramid. I think you nailed everything. My only suggestion is putting Duncan in Tier 2. 5 chips, 3 finals MVPs, 2 league MVPs, all-nba and all defensive for 13 consecutive seasons. Just as impressive resume as Larry, Magic and Kobe.
This is so dead on… the only thing Kobe ranked higher on in his career was impact socially, mean he was flashy and kids wanted to be him. I will give you that. But by every other metric there is Duncan equals or exceeds Kobe in every way. Easiest way to show this is just way, “you’re starting a franchise and you can take one player to build around, you taking Kobe or Duncan?”. If you are honest with yourself, in every era but this overly 3 saturated era, you take Duncan every time.
Jokic if you revisit the pyramid as of now since he won his first ring and unanimously won finals MVP, I can see him in tier 4. In my opinion for the greatest center of all time, I feel like he's above both David Robinson and Moses Malone or maybe Hakeem. If that's case if Jokic is greater than Hakeem, then Jokic is in tier 3. It's my take but obviously we should wait as he goes later in his career
I think the problem with Harden not being on the list at all, is that if he wins a single Finals MVP and a single championship, he can't be any lower than Tier 3. I think you weigh championships too much when ranking players, and the context with not just Harden, but other All-Time greats just not quite getting there needs to be looked at at a more case-by-case basis.
Same man, Harden is at least tier 5. I feel like his argument with him not making it was unfair. He still has Charles Barkley on the list despite him not having much playoff success either. Barkley’s numbers didn’t dip as much as Harden’s in the Playoffs but the the things Harden did in his peak are still worthy of matching Barkley’s spot on the pyramid

The thing is in a side by side comparison to the two on paper, James Harden falls a little short. Not a lot, just a little. James harden only falls short due to his performance in the post-season tbh. If Harden could've played longer, and be a consistent shooter, rather than trying to rely on drawing a foul to make a bucket, would've easily placed him Tier 3 no doubt. I'm not saying he isn't consistent when he takes good shots, but he would usually try to draw a foul to get to the line. It is just that little bit, which was why he had not made it to the pyramid (I think lol). A little longer and I believe he'll replace Barkley as long as he's healthy and building for a better post-season.
He can't be on Tier 3, he straight quite on 2 teams and got out that is not mentality of a winner. Even if he wins a championship he won't be the best player on the team as long as Embid is there so finals MVP is almost off the table
D-wade and Isaiah Thomas both have a strong argument to be above Kevin Garnet. I know tier two is already looking crowded but it feels weird not having Timmy up there. Man, I never get tired of the nba GOATs conversation.
Glad to see Moses Malone get some love... Many players can dominate a game, a few can dominate a playoff game, only a couple can dominate an entire playoff.

His numbers, his leadership, and the fact that other hall of famers have said 'you don't talk trash to Tim Duncan' puts him as a borderline top 5, and definitely a top 7 or 8 all time.
This is one of the most accurate goat rankings I've seen in a long time. The video as a whole was amazing, love the work put into this.👍 However, in my opinion Tim Duncan should be put on tier two *Five rings *Three finals MVPs *Two MVPs *Fifteen time All-NBA *Fifteen time All-defence *ROY *Played nineteen seasons *Brought his team to the playoffs each year This is comparable to many players on the tier above. He was one Ray Allen shot away from being top three all time. In my opinion he has already surpassed Kobe, Bird, and Bill on the all time ranking. The difference between them isn't that noticeable though. Some people put him down though because he doesn't 'look' dominant or he had too much help. All great players need All-star help, look at anyone in the top 12 they all needed good teammates. Some players have brought bad teams to the playoffs but not many have won championships like that. Sorry for making this long but I hope people start ranking Timmy a bit higher. Somewhere around Magic and Kobe.
Totally agree, some ppl say his peak wasn’t that good, but look at 03 Duncan, the guy beat a team with 2 top 5 in mvp voting (Kobe and Shaq), while his best teammate was Tony Parker who was on his 2nd year in the league and scored 15 pts
@Tofuey played with like 4 Allstars throughout that era though. They played in the same era and in that era Kobe was universally regarded as the best player in the league. That was followed by Lebron. Never Duncan..
@@spartacus1414 played with 4 all stars? Perhaps over the course of the whole decade, but never at once, never even close. Tony parker was an all star, Manu made 2 all star teams while playing with TD. Those are the only two. Then you have David Robinson who was retirement ready when TD won him his chip. And Kawhi who wasn't an all star when he won with them, but that was already mid 2010s when Kobe was irrelevant anyway. Tim Duncan made the Spurs, not the other way around. Kobe was more famous and was talked about more, bit he was never a better player than Tim Duncan.

Nice work, Jxmy. Even though it will be a few years, I am heavily intrigued to see the next edition of this GOAT pyramid. Will Jokic win a ring and make it? How far does Giannis ascend after the next few years? Could a fifth ring for Steph put him in tier 2?
Great video!
I agree can’t wait but honestly a 5th ring for Steph puts him in tier 1
@@JAYJ_17 Nah mate,, tier 2. He'll get to that tier 1 if somehow he manages to win 2 or 3 more rings (which is crazy to even think about considering he'll postpone so many young and upcoming players their maiden title if that really happens in the future).
So yeah I think every 3-4 years is perfect. 10 years is way too long. A whole dynasty will have come up and fallen in that time, maybe even 2 dynasties.

The fact that Jokic missed out on the top NBA 75 list and is now about to join a few guys in being a back to back to back MVP is WILD.

Completely agree. Seriously putting him in tier 3 is crazy. Tier 2 is more correct
I swear his career accolades and accomplishments are nearly identical to Kobe
Eh, I feel like Hakeem and Shaq are better tbh and when you actually look at it him and KG did similar stuff at similar levels on the court for a long time so having them 2 tiers apart is just criminal.
@@samcremin1486 Timmy has 5 rings 😂 Hakeem only won cause Jordan retired for 2 years if we’re being honest . Shaq never won shit without another superstar on his team
@@dro2drippy781Hakeem had worse teammates and Duncan never won in a year he had to deal with a dynasty either, in the 94 and 95 seasons he didn’t have a teammate selected for the all star game.
If we actually break down their games Hakeem is a comparable if not better rim protector, much better perimeter defender, is a better post scorer and a similar passer. Duncan’s only advantage is his pretty significantly better longevity so if you value that highly then he has a decent argument but he’s not a full tier above Hakeem.
Shaq was the better player during the three peat and he undoubtedly peaked higher, in my eyes it just didn’t work out for him in other years but he was probably the best in the world for most of his career.
Jokic now definitely deserves to be here. Definitely on the same tier with Giannis if not higher, because he does have an extra MVP over him and had a lesser team.

@@STZ3E kevin love has not the same accolades as bird because he has never been a top 2 player in his era and never as influential as bird between his teammates and opponents. never the best player on a championship team, never the one who was the best even on his own court. sorry for my bad english
@@STZ3E Kevin love is a really good player but let's be real they are in completely different leagues. Birds mindset alone is what made him amazing. He would never accept coming off the bench like love. Dude had that drive

Giannis will slowly climb this ladder and if he continues this dominance for the rest of his career then he’ll be right there in tier one with the goats
Timmy D has never had a season where he didn't win at least 50 games.
@@jacobwing406If I am starting a franchise and I had to pick a player,I would take Timmy over anyone.
So happy Moses got the bump. Well deserved!
Honestly, one of the best tier lists when it comes to NBA grades
@@StFigarlandGarling this is the world where giannis is better than him hes better than him across the board in damn near every category even 3pt and assists theyre very close and giannis is on the right side of 30 so within a year or 2…
The thing is in a side by side comparison to the two on paper, James Harden falls a little short.
Even if he wins a championship he won't be the best player on the team as long as Embid is there so finals MVP is almost off the table
the criteria includes championships, so he can’t be on there period.
D-wade and Isaiah Thomas both have a strong argument to be above Kevin Garnet.

Because of Bill's resume. We can't really just ignore it.
I think he used different criteria for both videos. But good observation.
I think Steph is Mount Rushmore. I think he changed the game so much that stats (and analysts) can't keep track. His off ball movement and gravity is so great that he should basically get assist without touching the ball. Just look at the game where defender is leaving Durant a clear path to the basket just to guard Steph on the 3 point line.
