from Australia, and Jimny lover, I thankyou for a fantstic and completely honest review. i watched every minute and replayed some parts more than once. i had Sierra (Gypsy) then Turbp Diesel Cherokee (Jeep) then in 2009 back to a new Jimny, i ahave been all over Australia off road, i haven't had a sedan since 1992 when i had subaru after subaru. i am on a waiting list for a 5 door Jimny at moment (not available in Australia yet) ive been watching reviews , in anticipation of getting my own. Yours is by far (long way) the best and most honest , in depth review i have come across by a million miles
Though Jimny is a tiny SUV (3 door), I think almost everyone who has driven it, appreciates it. The 3 door's value has been appreciating in the UK/Europe after Suzuki sales stopped due to emission standards. The demand for it was such that Suzuki actually brought it back with just 2 seats and cargo bay and sells its as a commercial vehicle(more relaxed emission norms) apparently. The only real complaint they have is lack of power. Now MS has made this mountain goat as you said, bit more practical. But yeah it needs a bit more power I think. Unlike diesel underpowered SUVs, which still have plenty of torque to play with, the NA petrol sadly doesn't have that luxury. And you were travelling alone on those mountain roads, with 4 people plus luggage you will certainly feel the power/torque deficit I think. But what was impressive was what it did offroad with those stock HT tyres. I think if people upgrade them, they should stick to AT/MT/RT tyres of similar size. While the aggressive pattern will give more traction, the same size will ensure weight increase is minimal and given how potent it is offroad, it should be good enough. I saw F.E. reading of 6.9kmpl on the infotainment, that's quite low for such a light car. The main thing I absolutely hated about it, is the seat belt reminder. Why the hell do they need to be buckled in when no one is travelling? What happens if I need to flip down the seats and carry something, will it still beep? How does one buckle the belts when seats are folded? Its seriously stupid the MS did this with another vehicle and I have a feeling it wont be the last one. Imagine travelling alone and your vehicle is equipped with 6 airbags, incase of a bad accident, all airbags will deploy regardless of passengers. Its just lazy engineering on part of MS. Coming back to Jimny, I am sure it will pretty much fly off the shelves, 1) its a Maruti and 2) It Capable too.
@@chiboFPS It is regulation, yes, but common sense (talking about MS, and not you) would dictate that without weight sensors its more of a hassle than useful, no? That is something MS or any other company should have thought about. Its not like the weight sensor would need 500 crores to engineer it.
Valid point on the seatbelt and folded seats. You will simply have to drive for a few minutes until those beepers go off. Ignore the 6.9kmpl figure because that’s with the car standing for the shoots, doing it’s off road bits, aggressive acceleration/deceleration for some tests etc.
Stop bullshitting about power, there are engines very expensive and highly powered like 5 times more power than Jimny and Jimny still does everything that those heavily powered engines with ease
A great review as usual. This will be a good option as a 2nd vehicle and will keep the off-road bug in check. Though there is always wishful thinking that this has more power(perhaps a 2.0 NA engine with 30 more horses) with a 6-speed auto transmission, and more creature comforts in terms of storage space, auto IRVM, seat height adjust, etc. hoping this is priced right and makes a success.
Have had the pleasure of owning 5 Gypsy's over the years, then waiting and Ageing till the Jimny was finally launched in India, then waited another six [6] months after booking one of the 1st, we were anxiously waiting for the prices. The 7 June price revel left us in SHOCK, to say the least. For a four [4] seat vehicle, but in reality suited for two to have some fun (even the Gypsy had 5 or 8 seats), it is Highly Overpriced by about 2.5 to 3 Lacs. The prices were VERY DISAPPOINTING and Maruti will CRASH its booking numbers for sure. Yes they will sell 10-15k to the Hardcore Gypsy/Jimny fans, then watch how the sales tumble, primarily as people realise the Mileage etc. Comparing the Jimny with the Thar is like Oranges to Apples, so we won't go there. Where Maruti had the opportunity to flood the market in India, seem to have shot themselves in the foot with the pricing. Instead they chose to price it so high that the basic ON ROAD cost for the Zeta MT is going to be about 15.10 to 15.40 Lacs, with the Alpha AT at about 17.50 to 17.80 Lacs, this with an K15-B Engine, NOT the K15-C + many other shortcomings. Personally I feel the Mileage is likely to be 7-9KPL in the City & Hills & 10-13KPL on the Highway at best (hope to be proven wrong on the mileage). I still love the looks of the vehicle and like many others have been anxiously waiting for the launch, however I still can't get my head around the "On Road" cost, How & Why the EXORBITANT PRICING Maruti?
Great review. Nice script. Subbed. One suggestion: Can you use camera with better Dynamic performance? The shadows are often too dark and the whites are often entirely washed off in some shots, we missed many outdoor views due to the poor HDR performance of the camera.
Great review Rohit. Vehicle is again an 2nd option in garage and for budget 4x4 enthusiasts . If atleast it had proper arm rest for driver, good storage management ( I meant a good bottle holder😂) it would have been a good family car as well. No doubt in its off road capability. Tempting one .. but highly impractical
Thank you. I’m glad you liked the review. A front centre armrest and additional storage options are available as accessories (may not be from Maruti Suzuki). And they are removable which in a way is a good thing. Take them off when hitting the trials, install them back when you are road tripping.
Those huge chunky space wasting behemeth 4wds couldnt be considered as a second car. it would take over the garage space. Jimny is compact and efficient and FUN. When you drag your Beast up a Trail in all its cumbersome glory, Jimny Drivers will have already made a cup of tea and sitting under a shade, watching you arrive looking for a park, while you are spitting out dust still. OR Jimny drivers basking in the sun on the beach long before cruisers and patrols scratch their paint off along the approaching trail.
Hi, I would like to upgrade to 215/75/R15 AT from the stock tires. Would this cause any difference in the overall performance of the vehicle. Also I wanted to know that this being a new vehicle, would the wheel alignment post tire replacement be a difficult job ? I just don’t want to have any unnecessary problems on a new vehicle. Any help or suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Great review as usual, i have a few questions: 1.What is the weight bearing capacity of the new Jimny ? I mean Passenger + Luggage = ?? KGs 2.How much torque is generated (get increased) when in 4L Mode 3. How Brake Limited Slip Differential (BLSD) works in 2H mode or it works only in 4H/4L mode. When in 2H mode the front wheels may slip (as is the case with FWD ) also in some tricky situations if the diagonally opposite wheels does not slip then how will BLSD comes into rescue out of the tricky situation.
Passenger + Luggage = 350kg Tow 350kg unbraked and 1300 kg braked. The elctronic traction Control turns the LSD almost into Locker, I found it unbelievable, when I saw it in action in an offroad test *(SWB) I could not belive it wasnt a Locker. No, diagonals dont slip the usual slip wheel is braked and the opposite wheel bites, I know very well what you mean and it doesnt happen with electronic stability and traction control engaged. My nexty Jimny I had Lockers on my list and after watching an Australian (Victoria) demonstartion off road, I crossed Lockers OFF my list
JIMNY 5-doors is capable of doing wonders in OFF-ROADS , But when its given a proper second-Row Seating aimed at Life-Style use ,its lacks Engine Power to take a Full-Cabin to a destination involving a lengthy Hill-drive. This is something which cannot be compromised for a Family spending 17 lakhs. MARUTI SUZUKI when it decided on JIMNY for Life-STYLE use should have upgraded ENGINE capability.
18:25 There are lot of negatives in Jimny, hopefully the on road pricing doesn't add up another. Anything above 14-15L on-road will be huge downfall of the vehicle as people will go for used Thar rather 😅
Which one does this have, the part time 4x4 system or the fulltime 4x4?? Considering driving on roads, the fulltime one would be a good choice my friend said. Still don't get what the main differences are.
Part time. The previous generation sold in Japan might have full time , can't remember correctly but not this gen. You can't engage part time 4wd on dry and firm road. It will cripple the transmission when you do the tight cornering. So the full time is the right mode to cope with.
Jimny seems to be a compromised product, after all. Mileage, interior features, steering tech, rear ac vents etc. all point to that!! Bad of you Suzuki! Good and honest review ❤
I’m glad you liked the review. Pls do consider sharing it. As for the car, it’s an honest off roader with no frills. But I hope that reflects in the price tag too.
ITS BETTER TO WAIT ATLEAST FOR ONE YEAR MAY BE COMPANY UPGRADE THIS MODEL OR THEY BRING ONE MORE UPPER MODEL WITH ALL THE THINGS WHICH IS MISSING IN THIS. BUT I THINK THEY WILL DEFINATELY UPGRADE THIS CURRENT MODEL
Suzuki should have increase width internally by 6" instead of just adding wider wheel arches of their Kei Jimny. Currently 3/5 door Jimny international model at 1645 width is just 170mm wider than their Kei version of Jimny at 1475. Which means that wheel arches should be at least 85mm wider each. Can owners of 5 door jimny check wheel arch width or simply measure rear body width metal part not bumper part
kya kuch bhi expect ker rahe ho bhai 1) rear ac vents..koi tuk nhi 2) cooled glov box..i mean serious 3)height adjustable seat belt..matlab kuch bhi ..ye pour off rode gadi he isne jo diya he woh bhi bhaot jyada he eg 6 air bags..no need, cruise control no need. instead MS shoud give one inch extra size of rim, 100-150 litre more boot, extra thigh support at back..these are some essential things
Fascinating...I've just watched a video before this by a vehicle-journo in India who didn't experience the Jimny as you did. In fact many of your negatives he didn't experience at all. Even his fuel consumption figures were different. I think its a bit dismissive to make comparison statements when all we have to go on is your word and can't see its performance. There's an Australian Journo who takes each vehicle through the same road circuits, one on road, the off road which clearly gives a fair comparison. I think that you city boys quibble about unnecessary aspects of an off roader. Lets face it, its not a fking Land Rover. But it will get you anywhere a Landy can go if you know how to drive...
In a nutshell, you get no utility space in the cabin, it's very crude in terms of overall in-cabin experience - it has moderate to poor insulation. It can only accommodate 4 adults. Jimny is not that driver friendly in terms of power delivery on the tarmac. It's not very driver friendly on off-road terrain in terms of grab rails. But the one thing it does well is crawling through off-road terrains, which almost 95% of the Jimny buyers wouldn't encounter for more than 5% of their time with the vehicle's life. Overdrive is very generous with Jimny's review :)
For his high price should come with aircon in the back and should have a decent central console with lot of storage specially for phone so it still feels low quality but with a high quality price, try better Suzuki because Chinese brands are even Indian brands now
@overdrive Really tempted to buy Jimny but we are hearing that Indian gov is planning to ban ICE vehicles by 2030...so will we be able to drive Jimny for next 15odd years? Can we see Jimny CNG and Electric Jimny. That’s wrong information. The Govt. simply can’t afford to do that. They may start banning the sale of certain engine types/configurations but won’t ban the ICE cars that are already on the road.
Suzuki think manual owner still own nokia 1100😂😂😂 man.. give some space to keep our phone and house keys . Some don't like to keep in pocket while driving

Maruti is a joke. All their cars have the same interiors 😂 the audio u say is average, sound insulation is average, the star rating wont be good for sure, skinny tyres..why would someone even buy this.
Why would anyone buy that? This car can walk though paths where thar or gurkha would give up due to thier weight and size, this car just like gypsy is ready to take a beating for years without making service centre your second home (like those 4 star rated boxes do)
