      Just make sure you show your excitement level, your willingness to learn, and your promise and ability to be on time and to be counted on. You stick to those traits and you can get damn near any job you want! I can’t stress enough on how important all of these are. I use leather punches for so many things and I've found that a plastic cutting board, from any local store like Target, works great as a backer. They're usually about 1/4" thick white material. I also found that when striking the punches on a workbench, they cut much easier when placed directly above the bench leg, because the leg gives you support all the way to the floor, reducing any give in the workbench top. This may sound silly, but my workbench is 2x4 constructed with 3/4" plywood top and even as stout as it is, striking above the legs still makes a big difference.

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Good input, I didn't really notice that but I bet you are right about the leg thing.

      Have you tried to use just random pieces of cardboard in case we don't have a cutting board to sacrifice? Curious what your experience has been. Thanks

    • @brianwillingham6533
      @brianwillingham6533 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ADR69 In my experience, using cardboard won't do much to save your table top. I use these punches to punch holes in chipboard templates too. If you don't have a cutting board, I've also used the endgrain of a piece of 4x4 lumber I have laying around. The endgrain allows the punch to sink in, so it keeps your punch's edge safe from damage. The key is to use something that will protect the punch and your work surface. I hope that helps.

    • @gverhoeff39
      @gverhoeff39 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can buy the cutting board material from the same place you purchase ABS usually or that is the case for me as the local store here sell it as well as must fiberglass material and you can get large sheets .

    Yes, use a teflon cutting board for your back, when the punch goes into the teflon, it wont dull the blade out as quickly and its more of a mobile option with multiple sizes. 3 pack of white ones at walmart does the trick.

    I use punches all of the time at my work for cutting holes in lead tape. We have a really nice harder rubber table top matting we use to protect our work tables. The punch is able to go through many layers of tape and usually goes into the mat without chipping or hurting the punches. I looked online real quick and rolls of that stuff definitely isn't cheap though. That's if I'm looking at the right stuff haha. I don't know exactly what we use but I can see if I can find out tomorrow

    Those appear to be leather works puches. You could use a leather workers mat that is used for backing those punches. They are a hard rubber that is intended to deform around the punch when striking it. Hard materials can dull the cutting edge but you can strop them to get them sharp again without having to grind. You can find them on most common leather work suppliers site.

  • @awddub

    end grain wood. You can probably check at Home Depot, or Lowes , and ask for the scrap pieces from their lumber section. Just cut them uniformly glue well and clamp together. Or if that isn't available, a single pine stud is typically less than $5. The end grain of wood will spread around the punch instead of coming out in plugs, so you'll have good longevity, and once you have the 'board' glued up, you can mount it to another surface for more mass.

      Not worth the effort when the kit is as cheap as it is. Plus the copper is likely to deform over time. Copper pipe isn't that thick.

    I have a good car, cheap car, its a Hyundai Elantra. 2000 to be exact. Old car, low miles, works for my life. It has less than 900000 miles. However, cheap car, and I love audio. So I have a single 12" Kicker comp Q 12". 2.833 cubic foot box tuned to 33 hrtz. Now to be clear, this sub is sick! In fact I have never heard a single 12" sub, sound as incredible as this sub. Especially for volume at depth of frequency. And I've had JL's and Fosgates, And Alpines. This sub Hits deep and loud! However, freq response is 20-100 hrts. So I have to rely on my doors and decklid for midrange, and frankly, they cant keep up. So I need a way to Improve my midrange volume, and response. I have a Kicker 1200.1 for the sub (which is too big, I'd recommend something around the 800w range) and I have 2, 6.5 Kicker DSC's in the front doors and 2 Infinity Excelon 6x8's for the rear deckllid. With a Kenwood Excelon tier head unit. Now low end return is quite substantial (it pops my trunk). However, I hear a lot of sound outside of my car and there is minimal factory sound deadening. Now I know that I need to improve my sound deadening. My question is, (I know I need so step up my door speakers, and I will) will the sound deadening truly improve my internal volume and midrange? And, side note, I have a 4 channel Sound Ordinance 4x100 amp (that will be upgraded shortly) that is powering the doors and decklid. Just so you have the full picture. Power supply in 0/1 with 4 guage distribution. Any recommendations?

    Hey Mark, love your videos. I have a car that I want to do a basic audio upgrade in. I am not looking for earth shattering bass and I just want it to sound good, full and have some decent bass. Currently the car has 2 6.5" Dual speakers in the front (I know, they were cheap and the old ones were blown) and 2 Rockford Fosgate Prime 6x9 speakers in the rear deck. Right now the car has stupid amounts of bass coming from those 6x9s even with my cheap $40 Dual head unit. What upgrades do you recommend for a system like this? It is in a little Hyundai Elantra. I just want some decent bass that I can feel and that doesn't drown out everything else.
