Nerdy though it may be, I have rated every song on all of their studio releases on a scale of 5, and ranked the albums based on the average of the song ratings. The result: 1. Micro (2019): 4.60 2. Cloud Factory (2014): 4.50 3. King of Everything (2016): 4.50 4. Wallflowers (2021): 4.36 5. Macro (2019): 4.00 6. Inhale, Do Not Breathe (2012): 4.00 7. Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear (2009): 2.75
@@hemlock399 That's a pretty good way to be honest. Seems like their transitional peroid is your fav. King of Everything goes hard so far, from the 4 songs I've heard.
There are some lyrics insight on the site 'genius', supposedly words from Tatiana herself. About 'Sleep of the Righteous' for instance: "This one is my favourite. The song is about my first experience of sleep paralysis. On some level of your sleep, your mind wakes up, but your body is still asleep. You experience this feeling of absolute helplessness, and you can see a lot of hallucinations. It’s a very terrifying thing to feel in the middle of the night. When I first experienced it, I thought there was an evil force coming to my room and pressing me against the bed."
I very much look forward to your reactions to King of Everything and Dark Side of the Moon. I'd certainly be down for a reaction to *any* Jinjer album. For that matter, I'd be down for a reaction to *any* album by Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Opeth, Deep Purple, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin...and many others that aren't springing to mind. Cheers!
@hemlock399 Appreciate the hype, man! KOE will come eventually along with Cloud Factory, DSPTM is in the list as well. If you have a specific album from these other bands, I'll add them to the random generator
Looking back, it took me about 20 listens before i could fully appreciated only about 90% of the album. I'm still picking up and appreciating little things. Sign of a great album that. (or how slow I am 😊)
I think albums with songs as complex as these always take some time to properly appreciate beyond the shock and surprise values of them. It is like watching a film 10 tike and picking up new things each time and it's affect on the rest of the film.
Disclosure is one of those songs where you get to see what happens when someone truly pisses Tatiana off. Her presence on stage and the harsh vocals belie how she normally is off stage. You often see reactors say "I wouldn't want to piss her off" when in reality fans know she's shy and gentle. It is possible to catch her wrath though and the Ukrainian interviewer certainly did. On the video of the collaboration she did with Spiritbox one of those especially nationalist Ukrainians tore her down a little in the comment section in a similar way. These people expect anyone in Ukraine to see the country and their struggles the same way they do. All the members of Jinjer grew up starting as ethnic Russian Soviet citizens and while they were still very young woke up one day and were Ukrainian citizens. Whenever that happens to people the adults are either okay with it or they aren't but the young people are confused and conflicted if they have friends and/or family on both sides. Over time culminating in the recent full scale invasion of Ukraine they changed their views on their national identity and allegiance in favor of Ukraine but the interviewer who was the subject of Disclosure insisted on making them answer for things they had to say about it when they were in their early 20s. I don't know if anyone has suggested other collaborations Tatiana has done but given you liking the heavier stuff you might check out the collab she did with Decapitated called "Hello Death" very good song and she hits a note in that that could break glass.
"As I Boil Ice" is also one of my favorites. I have been lucky enough to experience all of these Wallflowers songs live over the last 3 years of them touring, except for "Pearls And Swine" which they never included in their setlist so far, unfortunately, just seen some footage of them playing it during rehearsals. Also you might want to check out the drum playthrough of Mediator by Vlad, shot from the stage during a show, it is great.
Wallflowers has been Jinjer's most delicate, intense work music and production wise so far imo. It became my most listened album, left Macro behind in time. Another suprising side of this album is that the rest of the songs are good as the singles released. For instance, Colosssus, Copycat, Pearls and Swine and As I Boil Ice are at the top with Vortex for me. I think my only complain is song order. Tracks 6,7,8,9,10 all are mid or slow tempo songs one after another.
That's a good point, a few songs in the middle that were at the slower pace, but hard hitting either side. Much more a fan of those. A better range of singles and an amazing album all round.
My favourite track from this album vacillates between "Vortex", "Dead Hands Feel No Pain", "As I Boil Ice" and "Mediator". It's usually "As I Boil Ice" because of the jazzy and swing sections and the *gorgeous* vocals in the soft parts.
i constantly go band-and-forth between this and Macro as my favorite ... completely depends on recency bias. the OMV for _Disclosure_ is a lot of fun, and it's a toss-up between that and _Vortex_ for fav on the album (though i love every song on there) real Faith No More fans know that _King for a Day ...._ is really where it's at. i'd put _Angel Dust_ at #3 (just behind _The Real Thing_ )
Yeah, it's a good toss-up between those 2 albums. I think this album is more varied and diverse. Macro is consistent thematically speaking with its sound and vocals. I love both! All add that album to the RNG as well.
Fuck, man! Every album you listed is worth the listen! If you fancy a concept album, Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche is pretty amazing. Dream Theater is also worth a listen.
Indeed, Faith No More Angel Dust, Soundgarden Badmotorfinger, and Infected Rain Time are the ones I would love to having you sharing your experience with us.
2 of them are the list. Poll is up for one on the community post. Doesn't look like it's going to win, but if it's 2nd, then it will be in next week's poll

Oh, right. Yeah, I can see that now and some who used to suffer from that a fair bit. A living nightmare it feels like.

The music video to Mediator is good

Wallflowers is my favorite album at the moment, although I don't have any Jinjer albums that I don't like :)
Is it your fav Jinjer album or fav album of all albums?
Wallflowers is my favorite album at the moment

I'll check them out for sure. A few people have said that now. I'm jealous you got to see this amazing band play!
