      Cruise did embody the character really well, though, especially his intellect. It was just the physical aspect that didn't fit, but his authority made up to it in many ways.

      @@KDGoins To you it's stupid, however, since I don't have the same worldview, nor think like you do, I'm probably to the Right of you. I think that actually Batman, Green Arrow and Punisher are very possible. The problem is that many city government and up officials are also connected to the criminals so the Vigilante would end up inevitably hunted by government entities and eventually eliminated. However, that's why you need a large number of them, 100 or more per city, then it would be very difficult to take them out, as they could just recruit successors as they were falling. Also could help each other. Just like a "crime organization", it would be a "Justice Organization". If extreme Blllionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates. Etc. Decided to save the USA from these criminals, they could, they could pool their wealth and create a hugely powerful "Justice Organization", say 50 Billion dollars, employ former military like Reacher here, down on their luck, equip them with the tools/equipment equivalent to Batman's "gadgets" including high quality drone tech and AI Robotics, to make society safe for law abiding citizens.

      Let’s not mention the attention to detail- despite disarming him- completely setting him to the dirt with very little conciseness- then- takes the pistol back- grabs the bullet in the chamber, and managed to hand the mother the magazine so the gun is honestly rendered not only useless- ((Though- not gonna say he could’ve had an extra mag)) but again- just clearing a gun in the heat of a moment was honestly so smooth and quick- I ((and probably many others)) would’ve probably had messed up and left a chamber in the gun- if we were to be in a scenario like this. The way child would describe everything about the each scene puts you in there as reacher. Never has a character from a book come to life and be performed absolutely perfectly.

      I think Cruise was good in the part. Lee Child even said the size problem didn't bother him. But Cruise's real problem is simply that he looks too good. He's spent a lot of time (and one can assume money) to keep his youthful looks. His face looks like he's had some work done to tighten stuff up. And that's not Reacher.

      @@snap-n-shoot Nah, they just use perspective, camera angles, and shorter actors around him to give them impression. Sometimes film makers use more direct measures. For example: don't film the actors in a scene together where their whole bodies, from head to toe, are visible in the shot -- that way you can have the main actors standing on a small platform or something if necessary, to make him tower over the people around him -- I don't know if they employed such tricks on Reacher, but studios have been doing things like this for decades. Back in the golden era of Hollywood, they used tricks like that to make 5'6" Alan Ladd work as a leading man, even in tough guy roles. In "The Green Mile" they used similar tricks to make Michael Clarke Duncan, who actually was 6'5" look even bigger, because his character, John Coffey, was supposed to be over seven feet tall.
      Ritchson might not be quite as tall as the character he's playing is supposed to be, but he's close enough they can convincingly fake it. And he checks all the rest of the boxes for Reacher: massive build, stoic personality, square-jawed, tough guy looks, etc. And he has the screen presence and acting ability to be great in the role too.

    as an "old dude" I wish that Clint Walker was in his prime today. he would have been the perfect Reacher but barring that, Alan is pretty damn close. read all the books. loved his attitude - hurt the weak or mess with him and they're gonna' have a bad day.

    Alan could play Batman, Punisher, Captain America and possibly remake the 1st Terminator as a bad guy...hope the studio's take notice, he is the perfect superhero and doesn't even need a muscle suit.

    Ritchson looks like he's preparing for Mr Olympia. Book Reacher actually never really worked out, just a natural 6'5 250 beast. Apart from that, the casting has been absolutely spot on. Alan has managed to capture the general attitude, behaviour and mind set of Reacher perfectly. Hope season 2 is as good as 1.

      “Never really worked out.”
      It depends on what you mean by “working out.” Lifting heavy objects and constantly moving around like Reacher does meet the anaerobic and aerobic requirements of working out and will give you a jacked looking physique if you’re genetically inclined for such a physique, which Reacher seems to be in the books.

    • @mbeavis2587
      @mbeavis2587 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Despite being naturally big, doesn't one book explain that Reacher was digging swimming pools by hand all summer to account for how jacked he is during that adventure?

      @@paulira7407 Yes book Reacher is very inclined toward being very muscular, to the point that it's not plausible, and he doesn't get that much exercise. Just one of those things you suspend disbelief on, small trade for the pleasures of the stories.
