I love the fact that Reacher doesn't directly attack KJ when he sees the knife. In a typical action movie the protagonist would shit on the knife and attack the opponent but in reality it's not that easy, regardless of whether you have combat experience or muscles. This closeness to reality makes this series even better
Well, he's a big guy, but he's supposed to know when to hit first and when to hit second. You either provoke a first strike, expect and dodge, then land your punch; or you land the first hit without warning and as a surprise - preferably K.O. I think Reacher's pretty good at both. But he does have that magical plot armor which - to be forgotten - needs well choreographed fights.
I give them props for making Reacher's demeanor change when the guy picked up the knife. He's not some invincible hero to take that on with confidence, it's more realistic in that a knife is a very hard weapon to defend against and would make even a smaller person very dangerous.

True. Media tends to idealize things with having the hero disarm the wielder in a single stroke, but when you think about it, that's unlikely to happen. A pro would try to prevent himself from being disarmed, while a fool would probably be flailing unpredictability (world's greatest swordsman n all that). That was amazing work by the lighting director and the soundtrack director on that, you see a sliver of a shadow pass on Reacher face, there’s a a low bas line that starts, and the atmosphere changes immediately. Amazing work

And actually, the kind of build Reacher has may be on the verge of not being all that practical in a fight. It's one of the best scenes I've ever watched. The way reacher respect Roscoe, the way he explained everything, was written phenomenal. They should bring in such intense scenes & rightful arguments in between. So that character of the protagonist can be more revealed & respected....

Reacher is my hero. Dragging a chair so the entire place can hear. Does an epic monologue for the three bad guys. Guy starts to monolque - Nope Charlie Murphy face slap. Plate face slap, followed by an epic backhand. Walks out.
The thing that I really enjoy about how Reacher is portrayed in this series is the sheer physicality. I grew up in a family of men who are all very broad-shouldered and generally large individuals like this actor is. When you combine that with the mentality of a man that is genuinely unafraid of whatever situation is in front of him, there is a specific facial expression that gives off the aura of an immovable object (my father is one such individual). It's something that very few people have ever captured accurately on screen. But here, you really get the sense that the smart-ass is absolutely dancing on the edge of being put through a wall.
And Reacher goes up my watch list! I'm the kind of movie nerd that tries to not be snob and has no qualms putting action flicks above indie movies. Those kind of scenes hit just right, it's SO satisfying to watch.

See the realism I like in this clip is Reacher’s face when he grabs the knife. He knows that no matter how skilled a person is (himself in this case) it’s still dangerous as hell to fight a person with a knife whether they’re trained or not.

The book states hes a pyschopath so hes actually missing i part of normal mental makeup, hes not really understanding the threat in front of him as well as knowing if reachers too big of a prob that he can solve it with extreme measures he wouldnt think twice about like most citizens
I have read all the reacher books and watched the earlier movies made. THIS (the series) is the best iteration yet, Reacher was perfectly cast, he was what I imagined and even better.

As many others had mentioned on the knife scene, I really appreciate the director/script writer making the knife fight realistic. No matter how strong or how experienced a person is, bare fists against a weapon will always be in disadvantage. Unless you're John Wick.
Maybe you watch this and dont know the detail that the son is an actual psycho and does not feel fear. Most people facing reacher that intent on his warning would be very careful, but the son as i said is not typical human. He gets his punishment in the end and the book ending for him is way more fitiing than the episode. Dont bully people or be a major jerk when reacher is about and feels he should step in to balance justice.
I grew up in the inner-city, was in the military for 10 years, and worked as a CO in corrections for years. Sociopaths absolutely have fear, it's built into their DNA(like all humans) what they don't have is remorse and they are "anti-social personality disorder" types meaning they don't play by society's rules. Jack Reacher is a man that can harness being a sociopath to fight fire with fire. Both personality types are about 2% of the population. The rest are varying degrees of cowardice, weakness, disagreeableness, and many are easily tamed.

Brilliant episode, it hit too close to home for me with corruption in the South having grown up here. That part was completely accurate, how they immediately discriminate against outsiders, city people and those not like them.
i think part of it is becuase city people and a lot of outsiders also look down on them , as backward country hicks, disregard thier lifestyles culture and history then run to the rural areas after the cities becomes cesspolls, both places have corruption,

The thing that I really enjoy about how Reacher is portrayed in this series is the sheer physicality. I grew up in a family of men who are all very broad-shouldered and generally large individuals like this actor is. When you combine that with the mentality of a man that is genuinely unafraid of whatever situation is in front of him, there is a specific facial expression that gives off the aura of an immovable object (my father is one such individual). It's something that very few people have ever captured accurately on screen. But here, you really get the sense that the smart-ass is absolutely dancing on the edge of being put through a wall.

About the struggle of the mafias in Chinatown at the end of the 19th century, Irish workers and capitalistic fucks exploiting that powder keggs. Insane fight choreography and a great cast.

See the realism I like in this clip is Reacher’s face when he grabs the knife. He knows that no matter how skilled a person is (himself in this case) it’s still dangerous as hell to fight a person with a knife whether they’re trained or not.

I have read all the reacher books and watched the earlier movies made. THIS (the series) is the best iteration yet, Reacher was perfectly cast, he was what I imagined and even better.
It's a pity the author has stopped writing books and retired living a quiet living in the English countryside

As many others had mentioned on the knife scene, I really appreciate the director/script writer making the knife fight realistic. No matter how strong or how experienced a person is, bare fists against a weapon will always be in disadvantage. Unless you're John Wick.
Maybe you watch this and dont know the detail that the son is an actual psycho and does not feel fear.
Most people facing reacher that intent on his warning would be very careful, but the son as i said is not typical human. He gets his punishment in the end and the book ending for him is way more fitiing than the episode. Dont bully people or be a major jerk when reacher is about and feels he should step in to balance justice.
I grew up in the inner-city, was in the military for 10 years, and worked as a CO in corrections for years. Sociopaths absolutely have fear, it's built into their DNA(like all humans) what they don't have is remorse and they are "anti-social personality disorder" types meaning they don't play by society's rules. Jack Reacher is a man that can harness being a sociopath to fight fire with fire. Both personality types are about 2% of the population. The rest are varying degrees of cowardice, weakness, disagreeableness, and many are easily tamed.
