    I really like this rail fence variation, it is eye catching. For those of you worried about wasting fabric. Then don't! Use the scraps for a creative boarder or a small scrappy project. Some quilter creatively add them to their quilt backing. Just think of it as an opportunity to be creative!!! I also have to say you did a great job explaining how to use the different rulers. Thank you!

    Hi there Jennifer,
    I was watching your tutorial on "The Spinning Rail Fence" block and thought while you were measuring the height of the three jelly rolls, how bad the Jelly Rolls I've been getting lately. The Batiks are the worst I've seen. The pre-cuts seemed to be so much better years ago. It's sad, but Oh Well, looks like a fat quarter bundle is going to leave the shelf. Love all your tutorials. Jan. p.s. enjoy your youth while it lasts. L.O.L.

    I love all of your kits and tutorials and have enjoyed buying and making them with your videos. I'm definitely going to have to buy that ruler and make this one (and I'm not a big gadget person, but I always get the recommended acrylic templates and rulers for the kits I buy from you and appreciate the convenient recommendations below the items when I'm shopping). I wanted to see if you can give me any guidance on the color placement of the strips for best flow in the blocks. I really like the placement of the black strips and it seems on many of the blocks, the ajoining strip set has a white butting up to the black. The color placement makes the blocks absolutely stunning! Any advice I could follow to get a result similar to yours here? I am going to see if you have any kits for this project. The black background is a great choice for the jelly roll strips. Thank you for another great video. :-)

    Love the quilt but would have liked to see you actually sew on the triangles. That can be tricky. Where do you line up since the triangle goes beyond the square ?

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! You will line up the center of the triangle with the center of the side you're sewing it to. You can do this a few ways - the first, is to measure on both pieces and mark the centers. The second is folding the piece in half and marking the center! Both are accurate and quick, it's just your preference :)

  • @4everoltean
    @4everoltean 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In instructions, the setting triangles are mentioned as 7.5". Is that correct? The 'inner' squares are 6.5" if I heard correctly. Thank you

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question, and sorry we didn't clarify this for you sooner! In the video, Jen instructs you to cut your corner setting triangles to 7" squares. If you'd like a little wiggle room, you can cut them to 7.25" squares. Either measurement will work for this quilt.
      Hope that helps!

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are so sorry to hear you only go 15 bocks. It is hard to say what happened. The Jelly Roll definitely should have provided enough fabric if there were the correct number of strips! So sorry for any inconvenience

      I did not get the full 20 blocks from the jelly roll either. Seems there were only 40 strips. However, I did use my extra from the border and setting fabrics to make the 2 more 6.5 x6.5 squares that I needed (obviously I am frugal with my cutting so it was the jelly roll sorry to say but I did get 19.5 blocks from the jelly roll)

    My eye caught something....looks like once you have your fancy 9 inch block, you could just cut 9 inch black blocks and sew them on the outside of the fancy blocks instead of cutting all of those triangles. Yes?

    • @pamelavalley4765
      @pamelavalley4765 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes if you sewed fancy block then black block in diagonal strips to get this layout and those setting triangles on the ends of the rows. I have made similar quilts that way. Less bias to deal with.
