Love, love! I think these would be adorable placemats. Also, well maybe I might get a little carried away. Trivets, Placemats, Bread Basket and Napkins. I’m going to order the fabric (after I figure out what I might need) and make this a summer project. Oh my! I can’t wait. Thanks for sharing. Nancy in hot New Mexico
When I learned to make these rope projects, I covered most every surface in my home, mafe carriers for all my dishes, mats for plant pots, so many other items. We don't have to use new fabric! Old clothing works. The best thing I ever did, make rope projects.
It was so nice to meet Diane - my first opportunity to see a video with her as the awesome instructor. Diane, I love this! You are so clear with your directions & visuals! Thank you. I look forward to seeing you & the “Shabby” ladies again - soon. “Shabby” never fails to inspire me. THANK YOU🧵🪡✂️
We're so glad you enjoyed this delightful project! Thank you very much for your kind comment. We're definitely looking forward to more fun projects with Diane :) -Michelle
This is the first video I have watched with Diane and it was great. I loved how every step was shown with close up camera work. Diane’s explanation was so easy to understand. Lately, I feel the shabby fabric videos do not show enough detail or show all of the steps involved to complete the project. I hope to see more videos with Diane. Thank you so much!
I received a rug as a gift made in this form, and now Diane's video has taught me exactly how it's done. Can't wait to try this myself. Thanks so much Shabby Fabrics!!
oh my! I love this and all the pointers I gained from this. My only thing was that I initially used strips that were not cut on diagonal and they were full of strings. So I discard them and cut strips on diagonal. I love this project. Great teacher
Good tutorial! I just wish the camera stayed closeup as you explained and sewed some of the areas but I'm sure I can figure it out. Question: Because the "seeds" are only being fused, would putting a hot dish on top soften the glue causing them to come off? Thanks!
We're so glad you enjoy this fun project! To answer your question, we used Heat'N Bond Ultra Hold, which I've been told is pretty permanent (and you're not going to want to sew through it), so we do not think our laser shapes in this kit will come off, once applied appropriately. Hope this makes sense :) -Michelle
Hi teriw602 - We used Heat'N Bond Ultra Hold, which I've been told is pretty permanent (and you're not going to want to sew through it), so we do not think our laser shapes in this kit will come off, once applied appropriately. Hope this makes sense :) -Michelle
I have an older Singer machine so I can only go to 4 on width and set my length between 10 and 8 and sew really slowly. When the jelly roll rugs were so popular I made some rectangular ones. I learned to watch needle to make sure I was catching both sides because on my first project I have some skips.
I bought the kit and followed all the directions. I’ve made one trivet and ended up with 5 feet of rope left over after using all the strips. Has this happened to others too?
Hi Karen - Diane says that a variable in this project is wrapping the fabric on the tope. Sometimes it is overlapped more or less which then affects how much rope is used. Hope this makes sense :) -Michelle
Hi Katie - We most likely had the machine around the "3" on the tension dial, but be sure to practice first with your machine so you can find what works best for you. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
Hi sonyakennedy7324 - Yes, an extender would help. However, without one, we would suggest adding a stack of books to the left of the machine for support of the project as it increases in size. Hope this helps :) -Michelle

So love this! It’s the first time I’ve seen the rope wrapped with fabric. Sooo cute!🥰🥰
What type/size needle are you using?
So glad this project inspires you :) -Michelle
Hi francrouch9347 - Diane is using a Schmetz Super Nonstick Needle - Size 90/14. You can find these here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p95320 -Michelle

Do you need a special needle/heavy duty needle to sew thru rope? great video.
We did use a Schmetz Super Nonstick Needles - Size 90/14, if that makes sense :) -Michelle

Won't the heat from your hot dishes melt/lift the little black seed appliques?
Hi teriw602 - We used Heat'N Bond Ultra Hold, which I've been told is pretty permanent (and you're not going to want to sew through it), so we do not think our laser shapes in this kit will come off, once applied appropriately. Hope this makes sense :) -Michelle
Wonderful summertime project. A quick question - how would you recommend washing them if they get dirty? Thanks for a wonderful tutorial!
We're so glad you enjoyed this tutorial! We would definitely recommend handwashing this project & laying flat to dry. Hope this helps! -Michelle
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!
I wonder if heat transfer vinyl would work for the seeds.
That's a great idea! You'd just want to be careful if you're placing hot items on it as it could warp the vinyl. -Michelle
Love your video! Can you tell me the width size of the rope you use?
Hi cindyg1243 - The width of the rope we used is approximately 3/16 inch or 5mm. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
I do not have a Bernina machine so how do you measure your stitch width and length?
Hi robinsmith6136. Our stitch length for the zigzags we did was 5.0 width and 3.5 length.
@@jhwilliams6550 Use the widest stitch that you have on your machine. For stitch length I would suggest an 8.
When is this adorable kit available for purchase?
If you sign up to be notified by email here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p154423 You'll be contacted via email as soon as these kits are ready! -Michelle
Would lightly starching the fabric help or hinder the process?
Hi katherinecoull1066 - We do not think that is necessary. Diane says to, "Just press to remove the wrinkles". Hope this helps! -Michelle

What tension did you use at first
Hi Katie - We most likely had the machine around the "3" on the tension dial, but be sure to practice first with your machine so you can find what works best for you. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
Do you sell the watermelon 'seeds' separately?
Hi Cleo -We do not have the appliqué seeds available separately. -Michelle
I've worked on coiling before and things come out wobly...I don't have an extender for my machine, is that helpful?
Hi sonyakennedy7324 - Yes, an extender would help. However, without one, we would suggest adding a stack of books to the left of the machine for support of the project as it increases in size. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
Does it also show you how to keep it clean?.
We recommend hand washing this project. Thanks for your comment! - Abby

❤ love the video. How do you order a kit?
So glad you like it! Kits are available here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p154423 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics thank you. I did get one ordered😊 can't wait to get started.
Where can a person buy the seeds
Hi Karen - We only have these pre-fused, laser cut seeds available in the Watermelon Trivet kit: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p154423 -Michelle
What are the names of the fabric that you used?
Hi janetstrayer221 - I believe these fabrics are from Riley Blake's Batiks Expressions line. Thanks so much for watching! -Michelle

Yes, we did want to be sure that you had enough :) -Michelle
I was hoping u would have showed how to color change. Disappointing!
Hi Linda - Diane does demonstrate how to change from the pink to the green fabric at timestamp 7:19. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
