    New version of this Video is up showing you how to use an ELM 327 device to confirm that it's just the service light!

    Thank you!!!! This worked like a dream on my 2009 Mazda 6 TS2 (2.2 Diesel, 160bhp). Thanks for taking the time to make this video and for saving us all a fortune in garage fees!!

      Glad it helped. But also, don't forget to check for trouble codes with an ELM-327 device. _(How to do this is seen in the video linked in the pinned comment)_

    Thank you so much for this video. Had a scheduled MOT on my car and Mazda couldn’t help unless I booked a service. Worked with 5 push on gas pedal and not with 10, good thing I read the comments unless I would be in the same situation still. Thank you.

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, i've read some posts, it's always worked for me doing 10 presses. but from what i understand, you only need to press repeatedly until the glow plug light appears (which happens around 5 pushes or so) for the reset to work.

    Thank you! This saved me a bunch of money as the team that did my service couldn't find anything wrong and recommended I take it to Mazda!

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's probably the thing that makes me the most angry about this. _Using the DPF light as the scheduled Service light_
      DPF's already have a bad name, because cars like the Holden Captiva and the Toyota Hilux had huge issues with their DPF systems.
      So having a flashing DPF error light come on every 10,000km is going to make a lot of people think "DPF is broken again, DPF is terrible" even though it's got nothing to do with the DPF most times in the Mazda6.
      Poor form on Mazda for thinking that replacing the service light with the DPF light for the diesel model was a good idea. It should have been its own seperate light.

    Excellent advice & video. Using this procedure, managed to switch off the DPF light on my Mazda 6. Had to repeat this 3 times before it worked. Saved myself a fortune. Thank you very much.

    Worked a treat on my Mazda 6 2012 2.2 litre diesel. Took 3 attempts at pressing the accelerator pedal 10 times rapidly and all the way to the floor.. Make sure earth connections are clean and firm. Make sure oil is below the X mark on the dipstick. If not change the oil and filter.

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! i even think i forgot about the X Mark on the dipstick in my re-release of this video also! oh no! i may have to make a third one!

  • @henryjohntobin1
    @henryjohntobin1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This didn't work for me at first and I couldn't work out why. Then I read somewhere that the doors must all be closed when pressing the accelerator. When I did it again with doors closed it worked first time. Don't forget that the flashing light was your car telling you it needs some love! This is a service warning light so get a service or at least change the oil & filter. Good luck. Thanks very much for the video Kiwi Dan!

    Thanks buddy. I took cable from phone charger and prepared it. Can't believe that it took me one minute to get rid of this flashing light. Mazda 6 2.2 2011 UK.
    I calculated miles done and it was definitely due to service light. I get oil change twice a year every 5k miles and last time it obviously wasn't resetted.
    Thanks again u saved me fortune!

      @@DazzaJay is not a related question to the DPF, but I'm looking to get one of these cars, can u tell me what to look after before i get one. Im looking for 2,2 sky active diesel version + automatic. Or maybe petrol one because im doing not much motorway not sure yet thanks in advanced

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@danielvasev7264 all I can really mention is my own personal experience with my car.
      I purchased mine from someone that did mainly highway(motorway) driving. It had 80,000km on it when I got it.
      Since then I've got it all the way up to 320,000km. So far I haven't had any major issues with it. Just the odd minor things here and there.
      The Factory Recalls my car has had:
      *Takata Airbag.* _(No explanation necessary)_
      *Rear Hatch Gas Struts.* _(If car lives near the ocean, the gas strut end caps can rust, causing explosion of gas strut)_
      Other faults I've had with the car:
      Headlights went yellow and cloudy.
      Air Conditioner Compressor failed around 280,000km.
      Rear tyres were wearing abnormally fast. Installation of Camber Kit corrected the tyre wear.
      After camber kit was installed, the trailing arm rubbers failed within a few months.
      After trailing arm rubbers were replaced there have been no more issues with the rear suspension.
      In a nutshell:
      Takata Airbag, Gas Struts, Headlights, Air-conditioning, Rear Camber kit, Trailing arm rubbers.
      Other than that I personally haven't had any major issues with it, most issues were just standard wear and tear. (Brake pads, etc)

    • @artcoruk

      Arek, how many miles it takes for that light to come up? I got mine car like 5 years ago and only just got it flashing for the socond time recently. I make only around 7k miles/year so I guess it suggest doing service every 20k since last time it was flashing 3 years ago? :)

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, who does a lot of driving. (It's up to 370,000km now) it seems to come on every 12,000km.
      Just enough that if you took it to Mazda for service every log book 10,000km, you'd never see the light come on.
      12,000 is just enough to really make people think something bad has happened if you miss a service, or have your car serviced elsewhere.

    Hi thank you for this video. I just spent a whole heap of money to regenerate, clean and soak my dpf because it keeps flashing. My mechanic who is not a mazda specialist says the light might be on but guarantees the dpf fine. If I do this fix, would it be bypassing any other issues? And I guess, come on again in 13k miles?

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't speak for international models, (Mine is a Japanese built Australian model)
      But the DPF light does double as the "Service Light"
      It comes on a set intervals (every 10,000km for the Aus model) as a service reminder.
      Running this method to reset the DPF light will turn the light off until the next service interval.
      Just remember the light is also used for other reasons such as:
      Faulty DPF.
      Poor oil condition.
      Stretched timing chain.
      And also, any recorded OBD codes.
      So, after running this reset, if the light returns before the next service interval, then there's a good chance that something else is wrong.

    I didn't thought it will work but surprisingly it worked, thank you very much. Will this cause any further issues, like engine seizure or something??

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It shouldn't. As the light is programmed to come on every 10,000 or so km, to tell you that your service is due. So, it will return after another 10,000km.
      Its always good to check with an ELM327 device to see if the car has recorded any other faults though. (See the video in the pinned comment on how to do that)

  • @DavidAboucayaProductions

    thanks. Is this method works too for another light, for example Air bag light ?

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not. If you've got airbag light, check the error code using an ELM327 device. It should tell you the fault. And it's probably something that Mazda would have to fix.

    Brillant !! Worked like charm.. recently I had oil change serviced, I think mechanics may not reseat counter by purpose? So a few weeks later you would ask them for help? I remember that first time 3y ago I was in that situation.. and regeneration was performed.. but year later I asked to reseat counter and no problem only now it happened again wit new staff.. That make you think.. I travel to work 60km daily above 2000rpm so...

      I believe there is a way to do it, although it's different. I do not know the method for bush-button start. I have done a bit of Googling and have not found any method to do it for Push Button Start. You could probably ask on www.mazdaforum.com and they might know the answer.

    Is the flashing dpf light a service light then?

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  ปีที่แล้ว

      In a new version of this video here: th-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/w-d-xo.html
      I explain some of the reasons the light can come on.
      It can come on for DPF Fault,
      it can come on for Stretched timing chain,
      it can come on for "too much oil" (oil above the x marker on the dipstick.
      However, it's most common reason for illumination (every 10,000km) is because it's being used as the Service light.
      You should connect an ELM 327 and check for codes. If there's no codes, it's just the service light.

    Does this work on 07 mazda 6 mzr cd 2lt turbo diesel an will it lift any engine restrictions that may have occurred due to this light flashing?

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If there are restrictions currently active, check your car for codes using an ELM327 device. (See this video for instructions: th-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/w-d-xo.html )
      As restrictions would indicate that it's not just the simple service light, and that something else may have gone wrong.
      As this light can mean many things, such as:
      Service Due.
      DPF Fault.
      Stretched timing chain.
      Oil condition bad.
      Oil above "X" marker on the dipstick.
      And many other things.
      Checking with an ELM327 device should let you know if it's a major issue or not.

      It really depends.
      The light comes on every 10,000 km to tell you the car needs a service.
      It can also come on for a huge list of other issues.
      Too much oil.
      Bad quality oil.
      DPF Fault.
      And many others.
      Which is why in the new version of this video (link in the description) I also show how to check the car for other issues before performing the reset.

      Check the pinned comment. At the start of the new video in the pinned comment, it will show you how to check for error codes, this will tell you WHY the power steering light is on.
      You can also clear the codes. If it returns, you'll need a mechanic. If it doesn't you should be fine.

    Good advise if it's for a service. However the dpf light shouldn't be ignored - Mazda in their wisdom also use a flashing dpf light to notify you of a stretched timing chain!!!! Do not ignore or reset it, plug your car into some diagnostics and read the code, anything relating to crankshaft will mean your timing chain is on the way out! Replace it asap! Be safe fellow Mazda diesel drivers!

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The stretched timing chain issue was in the GG Mazda6, not the GH. (At least in Australia)
      And also when the light is flashing for a service, OBD will report *no error codes*

      @@DazzaJay The GG Mazda uses the 2.0L engine..not the 2.2 as used in the GH.. The 2.2 has serious timing chain issues and a flashing DPF light could possibly mean the timing chain is in trouble. It's happened to me and many others. I have been driving Mazdas all my life..I have had 2 × 323Fs BA & BG models , MX-3, GG 6 ..all petrol .And now the GH 6 diesel & as much as I love the low down torque and power, it has just not been as reliable as my previous Mazda petrols. My wife also has a Mazda 3 BL model 1.6L diesel which is after having a few problems.. Failing to go into regeneration to clear the DPF being it's main problem , so I had it removed. Mazda build great petrol engines , but their diesels are under developed and even the new Skyactive diesels are still having issues.

    Is it possible to cover the real issue with DPF? I mean, if I have real problem with DPF, use your way to reset, would signal come back, or problem gonna stay hidden? Thank you.

    • @DazzaJay
      @DazzaJay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To check is you have a real DPF issue, simply plug in an ELM327 reader into your car (under the steering wheel) and use an app like OBD Auto Doctor to read the error codes from the cars onboard computer.
      If it says there's no error codes, it's just the service light.
      If it's a real DPF issue, there will be a code.
      I will be making a new video on this in the next few months.

      @@265justy Last I was told the stretched timing chain issue affected the GG Mazda6, and was fixed by the time of the GH Mazda6.
      But yes, always use an ELM-327 device and check for codes first.
      If no codes stored, then it's just the service light and it's safe to reset.

      It's quite possible that it was back then. But as this was filmed years ago, I've had multiple sets of tyres since. (Where I live, you need to get a "road worthy certificate" every year to keep the car registered. It wouldn't pass with bald tyres, so I always make sure they're good before inspection)
