The side buttons are also in a really shit position compared to a normal mouse like an xm1 or Viper mini, and there's literally no room on the left click button. Also this shit is so annoying to take apart, there are like 20 screws in total in the whole mouse. Logitechs higher end mice are amazing. Ive had the Performance MX for about 3 years and its still going strong, never a wireless issue, reaches rooms apart wirelessly, and works on any surface. ITs going to take a lot to get me off the Performance MX.
I pretty much struggled my entire gaming career to get accurate mouse movement and enough processing power so that I could use low sensitivity without mouse falling behind, which was so rare that I had to sacrifice comfort and use the most horrible mouse shapes out there.. God bless you for making those properties known to everyone, hopefully gamers will see the difference and demand quality from manufacturers. I was long ago a serious gamer, and I still strongly believe that a mouse manufacturer that wants to be taken seriously, need to stop advertising the DPI and start focusing on mouse movement acuracy at any speeds. You have no idea how frustrating it was to know that someone is behind you in counter strike, and in the same time you knew that if you make an extremely fast swing to turn 180 in an instant, your mouse will not make it... GZ guys for your ideas.
Modern gaming sensors in general shouldn't have that problem. That is, mice that use a 3310, s3988, 3366, and maybe the s3888. Some 3090s are okay too. The sensor in the mouse, the AM010, normally doesn't have that great of tracking speed, but for the G402 Logitech coupled it with an accelerometer thing which has no problem even with absurd speeds no one should be able to reach.
NukeMeBaby1MoreTime It sounds like what he was complaining about was tracking speed, which older Zowie mice that used the 3090 sensor (and a custom lens) had problems with. Only recently did they update their old EC series to use the 3310 sensor instead.
Ah, right. About that, I have the Zowie FK and I play with very low sensitivity and tend to drag my mouse with utmost speed through my mouse mat at times yet never have I had any problems with tracking. But I'm not an MLG pro 1337 player so I'd not know :) If you ask me, it's all about marketing, adding unnecessary qualities to your product to butter up your customers and making them think they actually need some feature that prevents an issue that occurs when using your mouse with superhuman behaviour. I'm so pleased and in love with my simple mouse.
There are very simple ways to measure the need of high tracking speed by using a very simple concept. You don't need to be a pro gamer to have a sensitivity as low as to turn 180 degrees in a fps game by moving your mouse for 35 cm, which is pretty much the entire surface of a decent sized mousepad. Is this just marketing? I doubt it. However the DPI race is marketing. There are solid proofs that DPI can harm your performance if you put it too high, as it works against your sensitivity to very small movements that are very much needed to get that headshot. Unfortunately there are too many young players that are still trying to understand why companies put high DPI on their devices, and takes them very long to understand that is just a marketing gimmik. There isn't any interest to let those players evolve faster to the level of pro players, for obvious reasons. Unfortunately this makes it bad for the entire world in terms of device quality, and creates a portal to allow marketing gimmiks happen. So to make it even more obvious, if you cannot move your mouse in an instant to turn 180 degrees ingame by moving your mouse from one side to the other of a 35-40 cm mousepad, then your mouse is just too bad for being called a fps gaming mouse or a general gaming mouse, and should be called accordingly (mmo, or whatever, that doesn't require fast swipes).
i switched to this mouse recently and i am in love. it feels great in hand and never fails me in counterstrike. i have also never once had it make me look straight up in the air yet. killer mouse on amazon.
I just bought a Logitech G100s mouse today, and really love the shape of it. I'm used to claw gripping my mice, but I've found that the fingertip grip I use to hold the G100s is as comfortable, if not more so. If Logitech decided to release a G102 with the same sensor found in the G402, I'll buy three of them.
I think luke is getting better at this whole video thing. I really liked the misc things going on like the whipping of the mouse, and the random bb gun walk through. also, I run my Razer Naga Epic at 1600 dpi with the acceleration on 1 according to their Razer Synapse 2.0 software.
Its a very enjoyable mouse,no acceleration. i didnt think the dpi up, down, and low buttons would be used much but i use them all the time. The mouse feels great in my hand and i love the look of the mouse. Id say buy this mouse. Im very happy with mine. The two thumbs buttons are placed well and i like the breathing mode on the led.
I'm sold. I came across this mouse in a mag yesterday and they highly recommended it, after watching this video (Great vid by the way) I think I'll pick one up :-) Thanks for the very comprehensive run through.
lol i'm about to buy it myself! I run the G700s but the left switch is now developing that stupid Logitech switch issue. Is there any thing with mouse i should know before pulling the trigger? How are the secondary buttons, if you dont mind me asking!
the mx518/g400/g400s are imo the best mice on the market simple for the fact of a flawless sensor and extremely comfortable... so if its working why change?
I'm late to this particular game, but someone might pick up on it at some point.... I'm a Linux gamer. (cough, cough, splutter)... yeah, right, take the mick why don't you. But all this fancy stuff needs software to drive it, and it's Windows only. I'm currently getting a G402 and I'm praying that the defaults are going to be reasonable 'cause I can't change them. However, what I'd really like to see is some hardware which I'd term more, "classic," as in decent basic features and focusing on quality, rather than eye catching features like RGB crappy thingies (yeah, that's a technical term) that people are going to turn off after half an hour anyways. I always have minor nightmares about getting keyboards, mice and stuff that's going to play nice with Linux. I'd love manufacturers to go for a, "classics," range that they focus on long term, and are self-supporting with the money going for the overall quality, rather than fancy eye candy. In case you're wondering my current mouse is a G400 and keyboard is Ducky Zero, running Cherry browns with blue LED. I also use a Razor Destructor (version 1, it's that old) mouse mat. Video on Linux friendly hardware would be mucho kudos please.
ohhk your comment is 4 months old but anyways I am planning to buy this mouse and I think all Logitech G series mouse support onboard memory to store firmware and you can always edit that in the software so my point being that you can always use someone elses windows computer to install the software and customize your mice's buttons as you like and then just plug and play on your Linux :)
That's exactly what I did :-) - but if us Linux types keep working around this stuff, then the manufacturers carry on thinking that we don't exist, or have no interest in their products... so never do anything. It's only by kicking up a stink that people know we're out here :-D
msknight5 ahhh I knew it you would've figured it out after all you not only know about Linux but actually prefer it and use it. And on the existence note i am still waiting for companies like adobe to make their programs for Linux or maybe some new company to make well polished programs so that I can officially switch to Linux mint full time :P but what to do I need to use a single os for coding and designing at a time and recently started using Sketch on MacOs which means now switching between windows and Linux got another twist with MacOS being added in the list. 2 Devices 3 OS. 1 Mobile Phone 1 Tablet It's getting complicated day by day. But I still hope that one day i'll be able to use one OS on all devices. Now only an awesome Sketch like app for Linux is holding me up from using it as my main and only OS.
Anant Gulia A number of manufacturers are chasing this. Shuttleworth still has his dream, although getting there is slower than he anticipated. The original Motorola phone dock station is starting to become a reality; Win 10 is now small enough to run headless on a Pi... the next five years are definitely requiring higher quality popcorn...
Copy & pasted from one of the many places you get the fix (works for F3 too). fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0 fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0 fForegroundMouseBase=0 fForegroundMouseMult=0 ... need to go in your Fallout_default.ini under controls. Just copy and paste them in there under "bBackground Keyboard=1", or whatever the last line in controls is Simple, and I agree. The mouse acceleration in the Fallout games is awful, until you do this. ;-)
Dave Tacitus Must be a new version+fresh install because the .ini you say I should change doesnt exist anywhere on my computer. I've sent steam a very strong letter about this already with no reply yet. There are other game breaking problems with the control and movement. I just want my money back.
Happened to me to, in fact, im writing this write after fixing, my scroll wheel and middle mouse button (push down on wheel) stopped working, for me, i simply took the top part of the shell of and tested the mmb, wich worked fine in my Minecraft test, and then i placed the shell back on, to test the scroll wheel, and then it worked. Suprised my self there! Heres a disassembly tutorial (Just came from one xD)! th-cam.com/video/B_IfebeHWwQ/w-d-xo.html
Ordered. The thing I love on Logitech is that you aren´t wasting that much on a brand. Like Razer. It looks very nice and I can´t wait to play CS with it. Good work Logitech :)
I really like your reviews Luke and the quality they got to, thanks for that. High DPI mouses still have advantages I have summed up in my other comment... I have the G502 and I'm happy with it, play with 2950 DPI and sometimes higher if situations require me to do so, (like in vehicles).
CelmorSmith You are right! But at the same time we passed 3000 DPI on a fairly average mouse a LONG time ago! The DPI race is over, we need companies to focus on other issues
Wiktor Jurek For my Use-Case the G502 is perfect but I don't know what's suitable for your situation. I have a finger-tip grip, press relatively hard on the buttons and need those extra programmable buttons and I have already a Logitech keyboard which uses the same Logitech Gaming Software. The review that convinced me that I should go for that mouse from overclock.net is really well made and you should read into it if you consider buying the G502: www.overclock.net/t/1481639/logitech-g502-proteus-core-gaming-mouse-review-by-ino
Wiktor Jurek Luke Lafreniere As I watched this Video and saw the new features in Logitech Gaming Software I wished Logitech wouldn't reserve these shown features to costumers buying there new products. You mostly see these new features in the Software only if you have their new product, like the IPS-meter but I think it was only easy to implement because of the Accelerometer (or what the right them for that sensor is). But what I think is awesome is that my G502 just today got a firmware update that provides more options for the LED, easier accessibility for that and fixing of some issues. The Logitech peripheral Product I'm using, the G710+ which is actually an older product, seems not to have needed a firmware update yet and is the only mechanical keyboard from Logitech still.
Let me just be the one to say that i liked the visual jokes (like the intro and hitting the boxes with the mouse) and a shift in better quality videos. Great work.
I love Logitech products, no matter what price. I have been using the S520 mouse&keyboard set for around 2-3 years, and still works perfectly. This company has some of the most reliable products and there is no denying that.
I have the 502 and I love it, I personally find the free scroll wheel made and extra buttons really useful. But if you don't care / need or want these features then the 402 is just great. Logitech seems to be the less flashy but higher performing brand to go with right now!
I considered buying the 502 and did not specifically because it had adjustable weights etc that I knew I would never use. This 402 will definitely be near the top of my list when I need a new mouse.
idk for overwatch , but from my friends exeperience g502 really worth it . of course its depend on your budget . if u have more money buy 502 . if not , 402
Sick acceleration test method. If you could do some tests with all the other mice you've reviewed, and post it in a Google spreadsheet like you do with GPU clock speeds, that would be fantastic. Simple "yes, it's perfect" or "no, it's flawed" would suffice.

I still use this mouse, having bought it 6 years ago on their recommendation
Really
Even though its years since i've used the mouse, i still remember it fondly. It's such a comfortable, good mouse that isnt even that expensive.
should I get one in 2018? I'm poor
Yeah, its a great mouse. My mouse broke and i used my old G402 for a week until i got a warranty replacement :D
i switched to this mouse recently and i am in love. it feels great in hand and never fails me in counterstrike. i have also never once had it make me look straight up in the air yet. killer mouse on amazon.
This right here is exactly why I only buy Logitech, I love my G502 Proteus Core!
Slick needs to continue with reviews.
Corsair K70 RGB + This mouse = Heaven
That’s what I have
I just bought a Logitech G100s mouse today, and really love the shape of it. I'm used to claw gripping my mice, but I've found that the fingertip grip I use to hold the G100s is as comfortable, if not more so. If Logitech decided to release a G102 with the same sensor found in the G402, I'll buy three of them.
2021, bought a new pc, and I still use this mouse.
I just love it ❤️
I prefer the more conservative G402.... thank you for reading my meaningless comment!
the 502 fits my hands better than the 402, a bit shorter, just enough to reach the dpi trigger
Liked, commented, subscribed, unliked and liked again, rubbed one out, etc. etc.
Just for the three seconds that were: 2:35 - 2:38
XD
That intro lol'd edit: also I use the g400s and have acceleration turned off. Logitech is da best.
I have a 400s too, i was kind of disappointed.
I loved the G400, but my fingers are too long now so I can't palm grip. Getting a Rival soon to replace my crappy G500s.
I think luke is getting better at this whole video thing. I really liked the misc things going on like the whipping of the mouse, and the random bb gun walk through.
also, I run my Razer Naga Epic at 1600 dpi with the acceleration on 1 according to their Razer Synapse 2.0 software.
I am a big fan of the intros of Slick's review vids. Very entertaining.
i just purchased the g402 and im about to use it on bf4
How'd It Go?
Its a very enjoyable mouse,no acceleration. i didnt think the dpi up, down, and low buttons would be used much but i use them all the time. The mouse feels great in my hand and i love the look of the mouse. Id say buy this mouse. Im very happy with mine. The two thumbs buttons are placed well and i like the breathing mode on the led.
Oh, and i dont perceive any input lag with the mouse.
Daniel Worthey hey how's it serving for BF4?
Im a noob but its doing great
i didnt expect you to hire mongraal for the intro
It might be all good, but if the sensor i-sent in the front it is just another fail Mouse, well unless you aim and write with your elbow that is.
I buy that mouse at 2015,Works Fantastic till now(2022)
I'm sold.
I came across this mouse in a mag yesterday and they highly recommended it, after watching this video (Great vid by the way) I think I'll pick one up :-) Thanks for the very comprehensive run through.
Luke is improving :-)
I still use this mouse to this day.
lol i'm about to buy it myself! I run the G700s but the left switch is now developing that stupid Logitech switch issue.
Is there any thing with mouse i should know before pulling the trigger? How are the secondary buttons, if you dont mind me asking!
Is the mouse good???
which one is linus, I'm new here
***** the one that has a high pitched voice sort of?
xp0lym4thx yes, the one that might seem a bit flamboyant
Wow no hate coments? Your lucky man
***** you forgot comments*
***** Maybe he owns a man who's lucky.
Great review. Top explanation of acceleration. Luke you really are the new face for the channel.
I like what Logan said about people and braided mouse cables.
That intro: when your DPI is lower than your self esteem
1 dpi-
But.... The G402 has a breathing mode... Why doesn't the G502? :( I want my G502 to breath... It's choking!
My G502 breathes......
wat.... WAT!?!?
mine is. It can be set up using the software
I can't find it.. Where is it?
go to Lighting settings on the software
another G400 rebrand. Logitech....or so i thought.
Whaaa?
HEY! PRETTY MUCH EVERY PERIPHERAL COMPANY DOES THAT! WHAT ABOUT RAZER REBRANDING THE DEATHADDER AND STEELSERIES REBRANDING THE XAI!
4g3nt corsair
Logitech is good, but not as good as any other solution at same price points.....G400S and G105 KB user..."Buy it right or buy it twice"
the mx518/g400/g400s are imo the best mice on the market simple for the fact of a flawless sensor and extremely comfortable... so if its working why change?
Wow, Luke's mouse movement when gaming casually is beyond next level skill of pros. Nice Intro XD!
Mad respect for logitech. I have a g300s and I'm buying this for the button placement.
BTW ppl watching in 2020 it's like 25 bucks now so it's on u
Anant Gulia
A number of manufacturers are chasing this. Shuttleworth still has his dream, although getting there is slower than he anticipated. The original Motorola phone dock station is starting to become a reality; Win 10 is now small enough to run headless on a Pi... the next five years are definitely requiring higher quality popcorn...
FALLOUT NEW VEGAS WILL NOT LET YOU DISABLE SOFTWAR MOUSE ACCEL... it renders the thing unplayable
Copy & pasted from one of the many places you get the fix (works for F3 too).
fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0
... need to go in your Fallout_default.ini under controls. Just copy and paste them in there under "bBackground Keyboard=1", or whatever the last line in controls is
Simple, and I agree. The mouse acceleration in the Fallout games is awful, until you do this. ;-)
Yeah but the launcher and steam overwrite that file EVERY TIME YOU LAUNCH THE GAME.... no longer a viable fix.
also, that file is now Fallout.ini no defaults or anything. I am not a moron. I have searched all over for a fix.
Always worked for me. The file is in your main Fallout folder, not the My Games folder - I'm looking at it right now and it doesn't change for me.
Dave Tacitus Must be a new version+fresh install because the .ini you say I should change doesnt exist anywhere on my computer. I've sent steam a very strong letter about this already with no reply yet. There are other game breaking problems with the control and movement. I just want my money back.
This video is such a throwback. I absolutely love it
Excellent test method Slick! Thanks for this, been looking into this mouse but wasn't quite sure about the zero-acceleration claims!
Who just had this mouse in 2019?
#JustGotEndYearPromo
its 2020 already
I recently got for 20 dollars and love it
@@OverloadZorpalod , Wow that's even better! Congrats mate
@Le Monke You get used to it and then it is a great experience.
Thats me in the intro when I play Osu!
Lol I play Osu on fairly high dpi, about 3000. Else my arm would die for that exact same reason xD
After 6 months of normal use (around 3-4 hours after work), the scroll click stopped working.
Mine is working for 2 yrs nos after heavy use
Happened to me to, in fact, im writing this write after fixing, my scroll wheel and middle mouse button (push down on wheel) stopped working, for me, i simply took the top part of the shell of and tested the mmb, wich worked fine in my Minecraft test, and then i placed the shell back on, to test the scroll wheel, and then it worked.
Suprised my self there! Heres a disassembly tutorial (Just came from one xD)! th-cam.com/video/B_IfebeHWwQ/w-d-xo.html
Blow onto it. It works
3 years still the same as new
Hey! Would you recommend the g502? I've been using a generic microsoft mouse over the past 5 years and I feel like I need a change.
The review that convinced me that I should go for that mouse from overclock.net is really well made and you should read into it if you consider buying the G502:
www.overclock.net/t/1481639/logitech-g502-proteus-core-gaming-mouse-review-by-ino
Bought one cause this vid is too gud xD
JaggiHunter Greyfrill And, is it good ?
***** yeah.. $31.99.. spend $35 and it's free shipping.. CANNOT beat it as the G502 is still $62 bucks.. (and the G602 is $45.. NICE!)
19£ on amazon right now
Its £20 now. What a bargain.

Let me just be the one to say that i liked the visual jokes (like the intro and hitting the boxes with the mouse) and a shift in better quality videos. Great work.
I loved the humor in this video, can you do more like this? Excellent video. Keep up the good work!

after 6 years today i am buying this mouse
🤣🤣🤣
Lol same
Infact many are still buying
@Ahmed M no it’s just heavy
Waited for the price drop
I love Logitech products, no matter what price. I have been using the S520 mouse&keyboard set for around 2-3 years, and still works perfectly. This company has some of the most reliable products and there is no denying that.
2021 anyone?
An 8 min review and we hardly get a glimpse of the mice.
what the best g402 or g502 ?
g502
g700s
Darude - Sandstorm
G700s
Did you even take the effort of watching this video...?
I have the 502 and I love it, I personally find the free scroll wheel made and extra buttons really useful. But if you don't care / need or want these features then the 402 is just great. Logitech seems to be the less flashy but higher performing brand to go with right now!

Because Linus doesn't pay him enough to have a spare 20 buks :(

This is the first time I have ever liked a LTT video before the sponsor message even rolled. Well played, Luke
I considered buying the 502 and did not specifically because it had adjustable weights etc that I knew I would never use. This 402 will definitely be near the top of my list when I need a new mouse.
and i'm just sitting here using a 4$ mouse owning everyone :/
Same here xD
My mouse is $4, it's good for anything.
owning everyone in what? obviously you dont own in life coz you're poor.
lol i'm not poor at all I just don't waste money on a mouse

Got one of these last year new in box for $20 and I'm really happy with that deal.
502 or 402 better for fps game such as overwatch?
idk for overwatch , but from my friends exeperience g502 really worth it .
of course its depend on your budget . if u have more money buy 502 . if not , 402

Pretty nice mouse, but $75 is insane; especially when it lacks a lot of features.
Crazy that my G402 I've kept as a backup mouse is starting to last long er than my g305, it does get the job done for me at least.

Great review. love that you tested the manufacturers claims. The review was funny as hell too. Well done Sir
I really like how Luke directs videos =D
Sick acceleration test method. If you could do some tests with all the other mice you've reviewed, and post it in a Google spreadsheet like you do with GPU clock speeds, that would be fantastic. Simple "yes, it's perfect" or "no, it's flawed" would suffice.
