    I own several Surefire lights as well as a couple of the cheaper Princeton Tech headlamp models. Use them all the time, but for camping and such I think people forget how little light you need/want most of the time. A red filter is a great thing too.

    Thanks for this informative and entertaining video. When assessing the suitability of a torch for your own particular needs, as well as light output, such factors as reliability, shock / waterproofness, shape, handiness have to be taken into account. I tend to favour a headlamp style, as it will leave both hands free for putting up your tent, paddling your kayak etc. It can also be held in your hand if required. Whatever your choice, torches are so much better than they used to be only a few years ago. As with everything, you tend to get what you pay for, in my experience.

    Good info Dave. Just a tip...if the capacity on an 18650 is much over 3500 mah it is in all likelihood a fake capacity. Top brands like Panasonic haven't yet got the technology to make an 18650 much beyond that capacity. Claims of 9900 ect mha for an 18650 are a red flag . And by the way it's still a torch :-)

    The led matters a lot. A dedomed led like the m3x olight or the Fenix tk09 has much more throw, and the xpg2 or xpl35hi. Then the large, domed xhp70.2 and xhp50.2. These are high lumens low intensity LEDs

  • @leegrant1800

    It also depends on the LED likes is well A big difference what place apart with the quality of the LED lights.

      In smaller torches, as long as the LED is of a good brand (i.e. not Latticebright rubbish), it doesn't matter as much as the driver behind it. It's only a significant factor when you start going dual-cell and beyond.

  • @wearandtear6692
    @wearandtear6692 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you look hard enough you might find batches of older top quality lights that are just a bit outdated for very little money - at gearbest they have a excellent Olight M21 for about 30 USD.
    Also there are many budget lights that keep the specs and give very good quality for the price. Take i.e. a Thorfire C8 (th-cam.com/video/zFmMluCxM84/w-d-xo.html) and many other Thorfire lights. Other budget lights to go for are from Convoy, HaikeLite, Wowtac or Thrunite to name just a few. But always buy good cells for your lights and read the reviews in the expert forums online. You quickly get a feel for how a light can realistically perform. The cutting edge are now 4000 Lumens for a short moment out of a single high drain 18650 cell (Acebeam L30) but that kind of performance will cost you a bit of money ;-)

    Another tip is that you need 4x the lumens to see twice as bright to the human eye. Its the law of diminishing returns. Use that tip to save battery life!

  • @terrific804
    @terrific804 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Go to Cree's web page. 2X and 3X LEDs produce around 320 lumens each.......so 3 LEDs will give you around 1000 total....simple. Durration depends on battery voltaGE AND AMPER-HOURS.

    What about the term LUX? Is this a legitimate term or a marketing gimmick?

    • @verysurvival
      @verysurvival  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI, no that is a real thing, a Lux is 1 Lumen spread over 1 square meter. Lumens measure the total amount of light that comes out of the flashlight and Lux kinda tells you how bright the light is in the area you are in, since a flashlight can be in varous different places big room small room, out doors etc the Lux will always be changing, but lumens always stays the same. greenbusinesslight.com/resources/lighting-lux-lumens-watts/
