      Are you smoking crack? This review is pointless. You are testing a tuned Truck against a recall Truck? Your variables are all over the place. I know they are trying their best, but this shouldn't even been posted because it doesn't show anything valuable.

    Guys, it's not all about 0-60 differences. I've got a 2014 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel and went through the process as well. When I first got the jeep in 2017 at 86k it had the factory tune and got 28mpg on summer blend diesel and about 24mpg on winter blend. I always drive economically and drive about 650mi/week. At 91k I installed my gde hot tune and it increased my winter blend mpg to 29.3mpg and 32.5mpg on summer blend. Once they did the recall update (it's for both the engine ecu and transmission ecu), my summer mpg dropped to 23.6mpg and never tested the winter. The Jeep wasn't just lethargic in traffic it was downright DANGEROUS. I reinstalled my gde tune and regularly get 32.3mpg and have to manually shift my transmission because the recall trans tune keeps the rpms very high as if it's a gas engine and destroys real world fuel economy. I'm planning on getting the trans tune to compliment my gde engine tune. They claim it enhances their engine tune. Basically, the recall tune absolutely ruins these vehicles. They are much slower and won't get out of their own way in city traffic and get extremely poor fuel economy compared to the original tune. One last thing: for the first 13k miles my jeep used a normal amount of def. After a while even with my gde tune it was burning through its entire def tank every 3.2-3.8k miles. Originally the gde tune wasn't doing that, so I assume that the nozzle(s) got stuck open and was always spraying large amounts. Even my exhaust tips were covered in burnt white stuff. Now, after the recall tune, it drank the def fluid the fastest it ever had. It went through nearly the entire def tank in 1.8k miles. Once I got my gde tune back on, it has been completely normal. I've been on my same def tank for about 8.5k miles and it still has 1/4 tank left. It could be that my nozzle(s) were indeed stuck, but I thought I'd share my result. Pre gde, the best my jeep did was almost 6k miles before a def refill, now with gde it looks like it's closer to 10k, even while towing every other weekend.

    You're right Lou. A lot of questions left unanswered in the video. I bought my Big Horn new in 2015. I have 61K on it now. Zero major issues. Average 21 MPG city unloaded after emissions recall. Only one regen in four and a half years of ownership. Cleared it self in 7 miles at highway speed. Everything on it is original except the tires and headlights. I bought it knowing it was slower then a Ford and GM, Toyota and Nissan. I bought it for RAM (Not DODGE or FIAT) above average fit and finish and capability and the color. I bought it for the ride and handling.
    All brands of trucks in respective classes perform ALMOST equally on and off road unmodified. I've owned GM, Ford, Ram and Toyota. I was pleased with everyone I've owned. There will always be lemons in the bunch regardless the name or brand or year. If corporations weren't so set on the bottom line, every brand would be perfect. It would only be a matter of color and style then. So to all you fan boys out there. You're truck/car is no better than mine.

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your truck has regenerated far more than once in 61,000 miles. What you saw was a full DPF warning that required extended driving and complete regeneration, but a DPF will still regenerate actively without warning when they are partially filled.

    • @edbanks9987
      @edbanks9987 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AkioWasRight you're right. I should have said 'only once did the DPF get full and gave warning on the dash'. Thanks for that. Every time you drive on highway it cleans the DPF. A full filter will take 20-30 minutes in a commercial truck to clean itself. Less time in my little truck. More than 90% of my driving is city. That to me is amazing for a diesel of any size.

      Because the guy with the green Ram had 2 ECM's. One was tuned and the other was updated with the newest flash from the dealer. The problem with the Ram Ecodiesel after the "AEM" programming is that the cold temp performance was terrible. I had a 2016 Ram Crew Cab Lonestar 4x4 Ecodiesel. I noticed it immediately when I left the dealership after having the AEM done. I tried to pull out onto a busy service road and even with the pedal floored, it paused a full 2 seconds before going anywhere. Once the truck was at proper operating temperatures, it ran closer to its original performance. The AEM was required because the trucks were putting out too much emissions at cold temps, therefore the computer was programmed to dial back performance at cold temps. I'd like to see this "comparison" done with pre and post AEM trucks at cold temps. This is the only way it will be truly representative of the emissions repair issues.

All I have on it is a TS PERFORMANCE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE on it, it takes out the turbo lag and I get 702 miles per tank on the highway getting 27 to 28 miles per gallon, that's after the dealer did what they had to do to it. I have 60,788 miles on it. I do clean my mass air flow sensor and map sensor and defuser tube at every oil change and fuel filter every 15,000 miles. I haven’t heard any complaints that it was slow after being heated up and the RPMs loaded before a 0-60 attempt.
      My complaint was poor throttle response from a normal start, and that it was even worse when cold.
      This business with loading the throttle seemed to be done to deliver a specific result. Most people don’t drive like that. The test needs to be redone with vehicles that are not modified and have the same powertrain aside from the AEM, and under normal driving conditions.

Also I think that owners need to remember that this is a diesel and not a Hemi. It will never be a hot rod. If you want it for gas mileage then you need to baby it off of the line.

    The big problem after the recall is the drivability, not the top end performance. It feels like you have a sponge on top of the throttle! And of course the soot load has also change in that you get a lot more regens on the DEF system.

    I just heard from the Dealer that FCA has traced a bunch of these blown engines to the fact that in certain regions of the country they upped the biodiesel content from less than 10% to up to 20%. The small nozzles in the ecodiesel can't atomize the biofuel. They claim they have traced engine failures region by region as the higher bio content hits the market. My dealer said to find stations that sell the lower bio content or better even no bio at all. They now say oil change intervals need to drop to 7000 miles and to run CR fuel Therapy or Hot Shots Diesel to every other fill up.

    • @zxej6879
      @zxej6879 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was running biomass fuel from Propel stations in my Ecodiesel for about 2 years. I only stopped using the biomass fuel because the fueling locations were not convenient. Though I will run the fuel when I drive close to a fueling point. My truck has 134,000 miles and counting.
      The biomass fuel is imported to California from Finland. A plant was built in the Milpitas area. Cal EPA will not certify the fuel without data. The base stocks are the same. But the distilation process is different. The fuel meets the same ASTM as the petroleum fuel.
      In Europe this fuel is blended 30% biomass to 70% petroleum fuel. I found that my truck runs best with a 50% blend.
      My truck is a 2016 Ram Quadcab 4wd 3.92 ratio, 33" tires and a 2"lift. There is a camper shell, loaded with gear. I have a Ranch Hand Legend bumper to deal with deer, cows, and other roadkill.
      My wife used to have a 2014 Ram 1500 Crewcab 4wd 3.6L with 3.21 gears. She traded that for a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 6.7L Cummins truck. I have had some surgeries that limit how much time I can comfortably ride in her truck. The 1500 is just fine. And since I mostly drive highway. The diesel beats the 3.6L for climbing high mountain passes or dealing with a 30+mph headwinds.

    The last race probably should have been even or redone because Andre got a bit of a jump. The fact is that the vast majority of the Rams, before and after the flash have not changed other than with emissions. There are enough that ARE affected to make a proper correction by Ram necessary! In my personal, local experience with a couple of car clubs and a group of ranchers and farmers, there still is no one that has had issues, whether they messed with their trucks or not. This truck doesn't like to be brake boosted, it will start in a higher gear and leave you on the line for awhile.
    Either try slamming on the throttle and waiting for the boost or brake boost it with paddle shift in sport mode. Both ways are much faster than brake boosting in regular mode.
    Also the check engine you got is probably from holding the brake and throttle at the same time. It will go away after 3 engine cycles. Very annoying CEL.

      @matthewrobertson156 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mark robertson I don't think you understood the point I was making. The video doesn't address the key of the complaints owners were making. If TFL tosses out a key variable (Engine temp) from the complaints, of course they aren't going to see similar results to the owners who were making the complaints. Whether you should/shouldn't floor a cold engine has no bearing on duplicating the complaints as TFL was attempting.

    All I know is this engine makes the Ram slow AF. When I drove an ecodiesel for the first time I was pulling out on a busy road and when I hit the pedal it didn’t even move for what felt like an eternity. Then when it did it was slow and steady. I’m not an old man yet I like how my truck feels motivated on gas with the 5.7. Spare me all those diesel complications.

  • @Timoastra

    Test was fine but i feel like you have missed the point a bit. The "cheating" was never about the power or milage when going full throttle, it was about response and milage when driving normal/like the test procedure. As i am shure you know diesel engines car be ran very lean, espicially at low power output, but it translates to hotter cumbustion and more gasses like NOx.
