    I bought the eco diesel with the 3.92 axle ratio. Pulls equal to my 2013 hemi did and gets double the fuel economy almost. (15 compared to 8 mpg). Best truck I've ever owned. 2020 ecodiesel limited.

    I own a 2020 1500 Laramie EcoDiesel and the truck is amazing! Great fuel economy and towing power combined. The Laramie package offers a super comfortable ride in the cabin. It is an all-around amazing truck. I was just on this same stretch of I-70 today, not towing anything, but passing cars in the left lane at 75mph with power to spare. Downhill I had cruise control set and it kept my speed within 3mph at all times with no manual braking. Overall from Denver to Frisco and back, 28 mpg! And with the 33 gallon fuel tank I barely used over 1/4 tank. Can't say enough good things about this truck.

    For those curious;
    I own a 2020 Ram Ecodiesel Longhorn.
    Has the max trailer package w/ 3.55 axle ratio, 4x4 3.0L Turbo diesel.
    It feels torquey. Those wondering about the fuel mileage, I pull a 5,800 pound camper with this truck (which has 21k miles and is bone stock).
    Typically I’m able to maintain around 12-13 mpg @ 65mph. Without a trailer, max mpg I’ve seen (driving from Texas to Illinois) was 32 mpg.
    Of course, going up steep grades and being at altitude will cause more strain and bring down the mpg significantly. I can’t speak for large grades and altitude however, I haven’t traveled any farther west than New Mexico in this truck yet.

    A little off topic, but this is why i say, if you really want an extremely capable overlander truck, that had range, and you weren't interested in heavy towing at highway speeds, just needed low end grunt and crawl-ability, then go with a PowerWagon having an 8 speed and an Ecodiesel. Why Ram, don't you offer the Wagon with the Eco? The thing would crawl with much less weight on the front end, and would have the torque to do as much or more than the v8 below 40mph where the Wagon spends most it's time anyway and it would do all this with extended mileage range. And then, in a worst case scenario, if you absolutely had to tow something really heavy somewhere, you could still do it, sure a little slower uphill, but you darnsure could, and yes you'd need a couple cheap airbags for increased cargo, but you would then have a truck that could "do it all" Might not win any races, ok it wouldn't win any races, but it would finish ALL em, just, a little slower tortoise and hare style.

      @@Big.Ron1 I went with the 2500 cummins tradesman about a year ago, it has plenty of amenities for me with it being plain Jane right out of the box. I tow 7-8k with plenty of power to spare on many steep grades. it averages 19 when unhooked, when Im towing its at 14 mpg. Ive done the gasser towing thing, it will get the job done, its great if you have to pee every hour...pee& fill up...rinse and repeat....around 6-7 mpg with the same load ( 2500 GMC 6.0) Gas eventually ate a deeper hole in my wallet than diesel did over mixed highway driving. However, Im not sure I would use the cummins as a daily driver, however a lot of people do....your mileage may drop if it has to go through more regens and the EGR may eventually act up forcing you to consider " How in the world did those parts fall off ?". I can honestly say I have never noticed my truck going through a regen, but I do tow at least 50% of the time...probably keeps the soot burned off. Diesel only works for me because I use a beater of a 2002 corolla for daily driving. Def Fluid is a minimal expense, I use about 5 gallons every 10K. If I could find myself a Gasser that gave me 14 mpg at towing 7-8k and 500-600 Ftlbs of torque I would not have bothered with a diesel, but those numbers in a gasser are as elusive as big foot riding a unicorn.

    So the only real problem in this video I noticed was the towing time which in turn would be the pickup speed. The squat can be fix very easy if your going to be pulling that kind of weight. The 1/2 mpg shouldn't be such a big deal. What should be in the factor is 0-45 mph for pickup speed and 45-0 mph stopping power. On a incline, decline and level ground because everyone wants to know the safety of the towing capabilities. I think the sound test is pretty cool. I also think if it has 4x4 it should have a roll in there somewhere and not for playing in the mud or off roads.

    Just wondering how much effect the larger/heavier tires had on the Rebel. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 with the Off Road package and 3:92 gears. I leveled it, and put 35X12.50-18 Nitto tires and Method aluminum rims. Instantly dropped 2 MPG, and it feels like a little loss of acceleration and towing power. How about a test comparing stock truck to after lift/level and larger tires; no other modifications like a tuner, etc. Nice video. Love your work.

    I really enjoy these videos on this channel, but owning a 2021 Rebel Ecodiesel myself I was really disappointed here. 1) You just can’t do a true towing comparison with drastically different gear ratios as the 3.92 is going to be a huge advantage for towing, 2) you can’t drive a diesel like a gas engine with your foot “on the floor.” The diesel makes peak torque at only 1,600 RPM’s so when you mash the pedal to the floor and rev it up high, you’re trying to tow using horsepower and not torque.
    I pull a RV trailer weighing in at 9,700 lbs with my Ecodiesel with 3.92 gears and here’s how to get the magic torque out of these little engines. When approaching a grade while towing, make sure you’re in 6th gear and adjust your speed so that your RPM’s are LESS than 2,500. Remember, this engine makes peak torque at 1,600 so you don’t want to move too far away from that range. As you start to climb, it’s ok to let the engine pull down to around 1,900 to 2,200 RPM’s. Once it reaches that sweet spot, it will hold the speed and climb just about anything faster than trying to redline the engine!
    I just grimaced when he kept a saying his foot was on the floor and I saw the RPM’s were way too high for a diesel. Keep driving gassers if that’s how you’re always going to do it.

    I love how everyone is all over gear ratios and estimated calculated fuel figures. The dash MPG is not actually what it’s getting and resetting for a short run like that doesn’t give you an idea of what your gonna get, there is way to many variables to determine a tow MPG rating across all users and conditions. Your only seeing approx fuel consumption in a 8 miles uphill stretch of road at Xmph and X amount of weight. Something y’all don’t consider is Diesel has a much higher BTU per volume but also is an unrestricted type engine, it runs full volumetric efficacy at all rpm and load conditions allowing for more efficacy in all conditions.
    Side note: a tuned ecodiesel with or without emissions will dominate a hemi all day long. They have a lot of torque management and timing reduction programmed in for EPA restrictions, gas doesn’t have near the restrictions Diesel does. The EPA and government are trying to keep diesel out of the public transportation section to balance fuel consumption rates across the country. Meaning they want the public to stay gasoline to keep a lower strain off Diesel consumption since this country is fueled primarily Diesel, there needs to be a gasoline market to not overload the production of diesel. Diesels aren’t profitable enough in the US for the EPA and government so there putting restrictions on them to offset people wanting to go green with Diesel engines. Sad that profits are more important to the government rather then us actually being able to breath and sustain our environment...

      It's properly sized for that engine. It doesn't have enough redline to use 3.73. If it were a 6 speed though, then a 3.73 will work better. It might gain a couple MPH going up, but downhill braking will suffer. The 3.55 is a proper balance for what that engine produces.

    • @johng4527
      @johng4527 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
