Kenny, I remembered seeing this video a couple of years ago and it helped me with best practices on doing it my self on my H. I had a small gash on my tire which I did a boot repair and put a new tube in. Taking the wheel off and working with it on the ground was best for me to make sure I didn't pinch the tube. Thanks!
Very glad the video helped. Yes, it is much easier to get the tube and tire situated while laying down. I like to block the tire up with a few 4x4 blocks to help in getting the tube in and getting it situated. Glad it helped!
when I done them before I put a little air in the tube when I put them in the tire so they are not folded over or pinched and the it helps hold them out of the bead
Kenny Kizzle well your many steps ahead of me, I don't even have videos up, I will be there someday. I was going to ask you too, what kind of GoPro do you have?
What I have done in the past (decades ago) with the wheel on the tractor is start the bead on the bottom and then lower the jack just enough to hold it there, then take the spoons and start working it around. Used lots of slickem on the bead. It worked well.... BTW, new revised intro is very good. You can modify it from time to time with different clips of what you do.
Thanks for the input Matt.. Maybe I will try the trick on the Farmall H tire project! I have found taking the tire and rim off is a little easier to put the tube and tire back on as it allows the tube to fall away from the bead of the rim if it is flat on the ground.
That is definitely the best way to do it. The last one I did, the wheel bolts were all rusted & I couldn't get them off. I was pressed for time so I did the tire change with the wheel still on the tractor. Managed to get it done without buggering up the tube but it was hard.
Yea. On my H they have the wheels clamps reversed, so in order to get the rim off, I have to first take off all of the wheel clamps, on BOTH sides, and then remove the rims. (If you are familiar with IH wheel clamps).. Then flip the clamps around, and re install. It was a project just to do that - then I had to R&R the tire! Uff DA!
The rims always look smaller once you get the tires off. Sometime this coming up week I will be replacing the original 5.50-16 front tires on my H. They are rock hard and basically shot.
I feel your pain. Fought a tire on my 400 last summer. Got it all back together and found out I punctured the tube. Don't feel too bad. I think most of us have done it.
Ya. I didn't feel a bad when I did it to the used one, but when I punctured the new one that I had in the tire from the flat at Nowthen... I was really upset! Lol. Oh well a patch is easy enough, so I patched the new one and was very careful putting it back together. Now it is sitting pretty with good rubber. Might try to tackle the H tomorrow. Uff DA!
Ken, nice tires I wanted to give you an update on my pulls. I pulled 240ft in 5500lb 1st gear only class which is what most pulled in 230-240ft, winner 259 ft 11in another JD A did 249 ft but was all doen up nice, and the hopped up G did 253 winner. then they did 5500 open if you wanted which was what ever gear you wanted only about 6 of us did I went 246ft that time. So I was happy. Keep up the repairs on tractors, this winter after deer season ill have do some work to mine.
Sounds like you are doing well in the pulls! I would like to get one of my tractors in pulling shape. Essentially for me it comes down to tires. I just need to get tires that I am confident won't rip in half while pulling! LOL!
Yeah my tires are not perfect either, weather check but keep going. new ones are just to much. I got one 12.4 and other 13.6 id like another 13.6 so it dont lean and the 12.4 is the cracked one.
We were changeing a tire on a 450 and put one hole in the tube. Patched it. Then when we were putting the tire on the second time we put another hole in it. That was a long night. It took 4 and a half hours.
I still like your new intro better than the old one. Personally I got tired of pinching my tires so I have the tire shop do it now, but I do like to do things myself just not the tires.
Bruce, I have found if you remove the rim and tire, and lay it down... Gravity is your friend. It allows the tube to fall away from the bead after you have placed it in the tire. Seems to work better for me that way.
Hey .Great Job ..Good intro Needs a little polish . I have done this many times and discovered that a patch kit is your best friend ..If you are not installing antifreeze.. look for wheel weights or a drawbar box ... it will help with traction when the coming snow gets deep ..Thanks
Thanks Tom! I'll keep polishing it to see if I can get it just right. I think before it was just a little too long.. Now it seems it might be too short! Lol! Ah well, I will get it!
The "new" tires look like they'll last you a few years and I know exactly what you went through mounting and dismounting them! The new and improved shortened intro is perfect! Did you make it to Albany? we were there Friday morning and left around noon when the rain started, got the parts I needed and made it out of there spending less than $150!!
I think they will last quite a while. I never did make it to Albany or Rollag. Just had too much on my plate this year. I did do a parade last weekend in Dayton, but didn't bring my camera along (it was a very short parade). Sounds like you made out at Albany pretty good! I still have to find a set of tires for the F20... The search continues.
Well you didn't miss much in the tire dept. the only one I saw I wouldn't have wasted my time hauling home!....I did make out pretty good there, I spent about 1/10th of what I did last year on parts!!

Not a bad way to do it!
Hi again! Like the "new" intro, the length is just right but still shows what the channel is about, keep up the great work!
Thanks! I will try to keep everything coming! Still learning, even at this age! Lol!

LOL!! I am intimately familiar with those IH wheel clamps. Had an H myself years back.
The rims always look smaller once you get the tires off. Sometime this coming up week I will be replacing the original 5.50-16 front tires on my H. They are rock hard and basically shot.
They sure do look smaller! The used tires are still holding strong after a few years.
I feel your pain. Fought a tire on my 400 last summer. Got it all back together and found out I punctured the tube. Don't feel too bad. I think most of us have done it.

the new intros not bad but I like the sound of starting a john deere on the other one.
Yeah my tires are not perfect either, weather check but keep going. new ones are just to much. I got one 12.4 and other 13.6 id like another 13.6 so it dont lean and the 12.4 is the cracked one.
I've got a 13.6 that is ok, if you can get to my area.
Yeah I saw that in the video but I think the time I drive to where you are it wouldn't be worth it. but thanks anyways.
Vice grips work great to hold the tire in place while putting the bead on
Great tip, Ryan! Thanks for the heads up! (Sure isn't fun fighting the tires the entire time)!
We were changeing a tire on a 450 and put one hole in the tube. Patched it. Then when we were putting the tire on the second time we put another hole in it. That was a long night. It took 4 and a half hours.
Ya. I had a similar experience! Lol!
I still like your new intro better than the old one. Personally I got tired of pinching my tires so I have the tire shop do it now, but I do like to do things myself just not the tires.

Like the new intro. Show those tires who's boss.
Thanks, Phil! It was a project, and learning experience!
Great job on the repairs! Looks like a difficult job
The longer they have been on, the harder they are to get off!

I like the intro, but it felt a little rushed....
Thanks for the feedback.. I will keep polishing it!
