Squatch did explain the difference between show/museum quality and work quality. This reconstruction guarantees that it will work well for years to come. And I wouldn't be surprised that it gets to a show now and then. But it is sure a pretty tractor now. Put it in the field and some of that shiny will wear off in time.

if you dont want to destroy the paint on your bolt heads and nuts use a piece of plastic like vapor barrier or construction grade plastic barrier. Set the plastic over the bolt or nut and push the socket over it. There is enough slop in sockets to allow this. It will save the paint. Awesome vid . OH also try to leave at least 1 inch between the wheel hub and the axle seal. This will keep dirt and debris from grinding against the seal. ( If she ever sees the fields again) Just finished a 49 Farmall Cub and took it back to the farm where it had been since delivered in 1949.

Squatch - Love what you are up to!! More people need to see and appreciate this type of life. I grew up around a farm as well and can appreciate lots of what you are up to. I do agree with some of the guys you need to get your eye under control it makes you do a lot of extra work :-) but it looks great. I just found you recently and have been systematically going though your playlists and loving it all. Especially the MM X series stuff. My uncle did a AC-UC a while back and my cousin and I had fun helping him but many of your struggles with parts were similar but magnified from that experience. Recently saw my not sure what number video where you were making/installing/loving on fold over locks and every time I see you do this I think about a new technology call Nord-Lock washers. You may have run into them and I hope you don't change but wanted to share the contrast from classic to new tech. www.nord-lock.com/nord-lock/products/washers/
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next installment!

just for kicks.. flip your blue lincoln floor jack on its side .. dribble some engine oil into the big wheel axle and the swivel wheel and spin them to spread the oil out.. then flip it the other way and lube the other wheels. be totally amazed at how easy it rolls. i did that at a friends tire shop while waiting for the crew to finish lunch.. with the bosses approval.. the crew grabbed the jack handle with both hands and it almost ran over them in pulled so easy.. i use moly graphite assembly lube or moly graphite wheel bearing grease on mine.. i wear the OD of the wheels down to the flange instead of the axle bores.

You could terminate the silver at some natural point on the wheel where it makes an angle. I think that would look good. She does look resplendent as she comes together. Beautiful work. I wish I could upload a few photos of our family Farmall H that my brother restored a few years before he died, it was used in the sawmill from new (1942) for many years driving a a saw, was used to drive a stationary baler at harvest times and used for hauling timber in the woods. It's fitted with a Hesford winch to the rear and has factory 'weighted' wheels all round.
One thing I noticed on your fabulous renovation was you never had the seat recovered with the original canvas cover, so much more comfier when in use.

Squatch: you mentioned in passing that you no longer used fluid-filled tires so wheel weights were needed. Some years ago it was common practice-- at least in upstate New York where I grew up--- to fill tractor tires with a saturated solution of water and calcium chloride, which added a lot of weight. Why is this no longer done? I did a bit of online research and gathered that the calcium chloride inside the tires did tend to cause corrosion.

Any chance you have a local IH dealer with room in his showroom to display your shiny M for the winter? It would make quite the attraction and a great conversation piece.
