- In this video, I decide to boot up the Wii U TH-cam app one final time before it is discontinued and document all the features that may have been exclusive to the Wii U version of the app. The TH-cam app was discontinued for the Wii U on October 27, 2022. It is still possible to use this app with homebrew after the shutdown, but to the general public it is dead. This is an amazing app and the final online video service to exist on the console. The Wii U is amazing, and I spent countless hours on TH-cam and Netflix on it, so it's very sad to see the end of this era.

I just discovered that while the TH-cam app for Wii U is officially discontinued, the only thing that's keeping it from working is a check with Nintendo's servers to see if it has been discontinued. There is a homebrew plugin for the Aroma Wii U environment that will let you keep on using the TH-cam app on the Wii U if you want, and you can find it here: github.com/GaryOderNichts/GiveMiiTH-cam/
I'm sure this video will be great for people who don't have homebrew to document what the final days of the TH-cam app on Wii U were like, and now I get to inform people that if they really want, there still is a way to use the TH-cam app! I'm not sure how long it will work, but it should be for the foreseeable future. Hope this helps!
They blocked the console to be unable to access the youtube servers at all since yesterday gary updated the plugin by also changing the wii u useragent in the app to "NoU" which made it work... again...

I miss this app. Rest in peace. Apparently Pretendo is making it work again, so that's cool. But for now, RIP. 2012 - 2022.

I mean TH-cam does work with the 3ds but only internet browser
Netflix on the original Wii lasted longer than the Nintendo WFC existed, which is very interesting

Random stuff like this is my jam. Thank-you for documenting the Wii U app, if I recall doesn't the Wii U browser have a feature where you can close curtains so you can only view whats on the browser on the gamepad?
Yep, you could close the curtains on what was on the TV, and then your Mii would show up on the screen in front of them and do tricks. It was a really cool thing to have on a web browser of all things, quite a bit of charm was put into it.

Veru surprised this got into my recommended, considering that the only 2 things related to me showing interest in the Wii-U on TH-cam before is Scott The Woz and Super Mario 3D World when that came out years ago.

(1:00) That's weird. As far as I know, TH-cam on Wii U was originally a dedicated app before it was replaced with the cross-platform TH-cam client for Internet-connected TVs and set-top boxes.
I can't do that glitch on the TH-cam app on Switch, and when I try the same thing on the TH-cam app for Google TV, I end up back on the home screen without a confirmation and the app continues running in the background, however I do get a confirmation prompt when attempting to exit using the back button (not the exit button) on the old LG Smart TV (NetCast) platform which in turn would've been current back when the Wii U was current, so I think that prompt relates to older smart TV platforms that weren't able to keep apps running in the background.
It sounds possible, it's very likely they've changed the internal workings of the apps over the years as TH-cam gets published on new devices, and since all updates are done server side for the displayed web page it's possible these things stick around. I wonder if the PS3 version of the TH-cam app has the same thing in it, I'll have to check that next time I hook up my PS3.

i watched the full video and really enjoyed it : ))) btw if you change the user agent on wii u to iPad or just change the url for youtube to mobile it will lode videos more reliably and you an look at the chances and many other things, even staying logged in however the UI is kinda broken the videos show up in all kids of sizes and places.. but its way better than the TH-cam/tv
I still use it with pretendo, but yeah i used up to the last day and i especially the last two years i have been using youtube on the wii u just because... but yeah i also get the glitch of the spinning loding thing and i have to restart the wii u but aside from that actually the app is not too slow for me. in fact it is faster than my LG smart tv from 2015 lol. and its is really interesting how some UI changes from the website from like 1 week ago or even days literally where updated on wii u too. like the like botton or overall like the videos and ui been more round... or like the description been on top of the page. so that is really cool.

It makes sense since they probably just pushed the update to all web apps, but it still is very interesting that it showed up like 2 weeks before they discontinued it.
There is a feature to exit apps on Wii U it’s just that not many apps I don’t think use it Minecraft is one that uses it and it does work and TH-cam clearly it doesn’t have it working or it’s not actually added (or added to support Wii u)

that is just te tv website and it just shows on the gamepad and the tv is just getting the video mirrored on
Actually, Minecraft on WiiU lets you exit the game through the menu. The YT app on WiiU is just lazy as a whole
