It was strangely satisfying to see Zander get his brains sucked out of his skull. There was just a lot to dislike about the guy. And I enjoyed that Rico DIDN'T get back together with Denise. When me, my dad and my brother watched this movie, every time we did, we stated how Rico should have chosen Dizzy from the start. From the beginning, Denise didn't seem to take Rico seriously, whereas Dizzy was serious for him and seemed to really care about him. Dizzy's death was worse for me than anyone else's. But just my opinion.

most likely (trying to rationalize a sci-fi movie here) bugs fought each other and the big smart brain bugs used the straw on other big smart brain bugs as well as other insects.
Plus it is unknown if the bugs actually drove other species to extinction
