Best video ever!!!! You saved me so much time and money!!!! I couldn't update my IOS for soooo long because it kept saying i didn't have enough disc space. System data was taking up 85GB and i got it down to 34 with your help. Thank you soooo much
Thank you Chris - really useful and really easy to follow, even for someone with, ah, limited technical skills. I found an huge zoom video file (60G!) that I didn’t even know I’d recorded! Much appreciated.
This worked a treat thank you Chris, gave you a like as i also do a load of work on Adobe Cloud and had NO IDEA these files existed. Thank you very much!
now i just need this for iphone. my 16gb iphone se 1 is suffering massively due to system data. seriously, there was literally a time where i could only download whatsapp and another where i had just reset my phone and screen recorded the system data section going up
I believe this video I a huge incredible help for sooo many people!!!! I hope I will bw one of these people too.But the fact is that I am using Photoshop 2023, and the folder "Common" is missing in the place that you say it should be... Could you recommend me something to do, please?
i cleared about 20gb of my 100gb of system data this way. without risking to delete anything important, the library files are now 12gb in size, but 80gb of system data still remain un-findable and its making me insane
I have a similar situation. I reset my entire computer and tried to download some files form iCloud and they don’t show up on my desktop yet system data increases and is unfindable
hi everyone, I did the aforementioned which did help me to free 2GB, thank you Chris. However, System still takes 78GB!!! I literally have 2-3 apps downloaded and lately dont even do much on my laptop, I switched off Photos on Mac but i dont understand How System takes so much space! Please help me, give me any and every advice, thank you so much!
i just reset my MacBook to the factory system, open up the computer still shows I have 494gb system out of 500gb, any recommendation? computer have no storage to do anything
Did you factory reset with all data deleted or just a clean OS install? As if you didn’t do the first it won’t clear the drives. If I were you, backup all your important data to an external drive, then do a complete clean wipe. Then add your data back and see how much storage you have left. If you have none, you’ll have to go through your own data and move it off to external drives or delete things you don’t need to keep
I've been using PC for years and don't remember doing anything like this. My wife has 200gb of shit in her system data. Stupid Apple... hope you rot in hell.
I don't think the option "Reduce Cutter" is available in further mac updates, I am concerned why is it removed? P.S. A lot of ur steps is outdated in recent mac versions as some options as gone
It’s an old video yes, unfortunately TH-cam doesn’t allow me to update videos, but the library part still works fine and it’s the main culprit. There’s a lot of other updated versions out there
My InDesign won't respond after doing this... Is it a coincidence? I've uninstalled and reinstalled since but no change ! Edit - Fixed this by resetting preferences:)
I'm on 14.6.1 Sonoma and can't find a Reduce Clutter function anywhere? Any ideas anyone. I do see I have nearly 80Gb of System Files, but I can't open up that icon and see what makes that 80GB... ??? After watching the rest of the video I was able to delete a bunch of junk off my SSD, even programs I had deleted still had stuff there.
I click on "about this Mac" and absolutely nothing but the brand and details come up, there isnt the storage box either, i dont know where to find this now
Life saving video!!!! cleared around 50GB of my Mac, my Mac is only 128GB
THANKS A LOTTTTTT!!!!!!
I've been trying to figure this out for over a year! This is the only place online that had a solution, thanks SO MUCH!
I’m sorry it took you so long to figure out, but happy you’ve got it resolved!
Wow, thank you so much! Just cleaned up over 100GB is Adobe media cache's! Had no idea they were stored there, you are a life saver!
So glad this helped Felix! Adobe loves to eat away at hard drive data!

Thank you! I was losing my mind & thanks to your video I was able to find the 1 major culprit hogging up my system data storage. Amazing!
Thank you very much. You saved me from buying an external drive. this is probably the most helpful video i've ever watched.
I couldn't edit any more videos on premiere because my storage miraculously filled overnight-thanks to this I'm seeing where all my storage went 🙏🏾
Hands down the best video I've seen to help with System Data storage. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you Chris - really useful and really easy to follow, even for someone with, ah, limited technical skills. I found an huge zoom video file (60G!) that I didn’t even know I’d recorded! Much appreciated.
Glad it helped! 60gb is a huge file for any video let alone a zoom call haha.
Out of 40gb of system data, I was able to clear 20gb of data from uninstalled apps. thanks a lot
Amazing! Glad this helped you out, even if it is technically out of date now :)
Great. Thanks for sharing the details. Saved lot of GB's.
I didn't know that there is some option exists in Mac to see 'view all sizes' of folder. Thanks
This worked a treat thank you Chris, gave you a like as i also do a load of work on Adobe Cloud and had NO IDEA these files existed. Thank you very much!
Thanks Chris, I have enough space to upgrade my MacOSX + more now :)

Congratulations! 🥳
just amazing
I am seeing around 600+ GB of system data, followed your steps but didn't find any such app causing this huge size. What else can be checked?
Open Terminal and check for hidden TimeMachine backups
Mate thanks just save me over 300gb. I was blaming Dropbox the whole time!
Thank you !!!
now i just need this for iphone. my 16gb iphone se 1 is suffering massively due to system data.
seriously, there was literally a time where i could only download whatsapp and another where i had just reset my phone and screen recorded the system data section going up
Now that’s something we all need to figure out how to sort!
I believe this video I a huge incredible help for sooo many people!!!! I hope I will bw one of these people too.But the fact is that I am using Photoshop 2023, and the folder "Common" is missing in the place that you say it should be... Could you recommend me something to do, please?
Go to view options and see if there is an option to show hidden folders
thanks
Thank you so muchhhh

Really big help!!!! Thanks sooooo too much!!
This was soooooo helpful!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
thank you sire.
thank you so much/ helps a lot .
It doesn't show me the "calculate all sizes" option. Where can I also find this option?
switch to list view

20gb is a start. Do you have any apps that allow you to manually wipe any sort of cache?
I have a similar situation. I reset my entire computer and tried to download some files form iCloud and they don’t show up on my desktop yet system data increases and is unfindable
What about user logs? I have about 35 gigs of user logs from my Avid (pro tools) folder but I don't know if it's safe to delete.
Personally I don’t have any experience with avid. I’d quickly run a Google search to see if it’s safe to delete, if so. Hit that delete button
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Time Machine backups? Try turning on and off etc

I wouldn't go to that extreme, but I do agree with stupid how it is hidden.
Saved my life!
Can't see calculate all sizes on my view options ... any tips?
It may take some time to load, or you may need to add the size column
There s no "manage" button in my storage screen
I don't think the option "Reduce Cutter" is available in further mac updates, I am concerned why is it removed?

@@ChrisWilmshurst Alright. Thanks!
How do this on Macos Ventura?
Pretty much the same way.
A lot of space is taken up by Google Chrome and VSCode
delete it all!
My InDesign won't respond after doing this... Is it a coincidence? I've uninstalled and reinstalled since but no change ! Edit - Fixed this by resetting preferences:)
the option reduce clutter is no where to be found on my mac....
This is slightly out of date I’m afraid. :(
Great, super video, I'm really love it , thank you, my full supportt it's your's 👍🏻👌🔔🌲🌸5

Apple removed the reduce clutter function unfortunately, but glad you were able to find a solution after watching the video!
so do i need to install adobe?
No. Adobe is the example set of software that was eating up my storage. It’s all explained in the video if you watch it 100%
I can't even do the "manage" becos the system data is keep calculating. Does anyone have the same issue?
I click on "about this Mac" and absolutely nothing but the brand and details come up, there isnt the storage box either, i dont know where to find this now
It’s all moved about now. I’m not at my Mac currently, but go into settings and I think there may be a storage tab now but I’m not sure)
@@ChrisWilmshurst
Thank you for your help I went into another video and ended up finding 2TB of data from screen recording lol, anyways thanks again
How i do it on phone tho PLEASE I NEED HELP
If I knew how to do this I’d have a video with 10 million views! 🤣
I can't follow these instructions. My system must be using a newer OS.
This is for the old version of Mac OS. But the cache folders on finder > go still works
this did help but it still says I have 190 GB of "System Data" any one have any dance it would be greatly appreciated :/
Tried restarting??
@@ChrisWilmshurst when you say restarting what do you mean exactly? returning to factory settings or something else?
@@TheJack2459 I mean restarting your Mac. Turn it off and then back on again
@@ChrisWilmshurst Yes I did try this
worthless
Comments say otherwise, try again.
This is ABYSMALLY CRAPPY DESIGN by Apple…
Thank you!! ❤
I can't see in my Common Folder the Media Caches Files :(
