This is so not practical having to factory reset my phone every other week because system data takes up 40GB out of my 64GB.. Apple needs to fix this after all this time. EDIT: You can absolutely use the method of doing a cloud backup and then restoring to it after reset. So many who say you can't but I have done it successfully each time. I also know that Apple has made this happen intentionally, they should be required to fix it though if you ask me.
@@teammiauw4741 I factory reset my phone. A lot of tutorials say that you can't use a system restore point/backup because the system data will come back. However I restored my phone using a backup/restore point and it worked for me. Sadly the system data will build back to stupid amounts over time again but this is the only way. You DO NOT need to factory reset your phone though, USE a restore/backup point :)
@@teammiauw4741 It probably will but hopefully not in a long time since they never fixed it, it's kinda deemed to happen. Hopefully though it will take a while before it gets filled up again :)
That's also a really good solution in case you're planning to get a new iphone soon. Cleaning up the system completely will make a backup for the transfer of data more trash-free.
I think it’s the constant caches from logging into your phone and apps. It will just constantly grow and grow if you don’t restart or reset your phone regardless. But yea Apple should really fix this because sometimes I try to delete apps and it seems it doesn’t even help because it will just grow back to where I didn’t want it to be
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I had 30 GB of SYSTEM DATA and my phone was constantly sending me the storage full message over the last 2 years!!!! It was driving me crazy - now it is dow to 1.96GB after following your steps. I appreciate you - FIVE STARS!
I did this yesterday and gained around 8 gigs of storage on my 32-gig iPhone. Everything goes much faster if you use a password program app and install that 1st. That makes getting all your other apps up and running easier.
You might also try clearing the cache from your safari. My wife just did that and it wiped nearly 100gigs of system data storage off her iPhone 14 (she had been doing system back ups on her phones for the last three iPhones she owned, and never used iCloud before until she got the 14)
@@celineleadimet1012 idk if u still need this but u just go to the safari app in settings and scroll down until you find the option to clear history and website data. I ended up clearing 30 gigs alone from this
I was gonna do this, then I backed out because I wanted to write down all my passwords. It took away most my system data without losing anything. Very happy with that
Another thing that helps and is much simpler ==> Update your iPhone to the latest version. I had 60GB of System Data and now it has come to 8GB. All the best
But you have to make sure you have backup all your app data such as WhatsApp. Cause WhatsApp messages might have been stuck uploading due to lack of storage at the first place.
A while back when I had this issue on my iPhone 6 I contacted Apple support and I don’t know what they did on their end but they were able to remove my system data that was taking up space/storage without me having to reset my phone…… if only we knew how they’re able to do it….

i was going to do this, but then you said it deleted the apps... which were the thing i was aiming to keep haha. One of my apps had a large update so i needed storage for it, but i think i'll just stick with deleting all my photos and old apps, etc. No offense to you, of course! This video was super helpful and i now know what to do if i ever decide to! thanks tho, the vid was really easy to follow.
thank you !!! I brought it down from 12 gigs to 4 gigs. I did lose my notes, not sure why. It looks like an iCloud issue. I do hate how all these companies force you into upgrading. Thank you again !!!!
Thanx for the video... 👍🏻👍🏻 But what to do if "other" or "system data" still shows 31,9 GB after factory reset? And I set up the iPad as a new one. Is the storage memory broken?
Thank you so much for your video. I had this issue on my iPhone, my system data was almost at 40GB 😢. I just followed your steps and everything worked perfectly.
I wouldn't use the verbiage "this is easy" etc, this is all based on how many third party apps you have and how much information you need to re-sync with your phone. For example, if you use Brave browser, you will have to resync your account. If you have Gmail, you would have to re-sync contacts, calendars, etc. It would be considered easy if you only had a few third party apps that don't require the extra legwork, sure. In my case I had to spend over an hour re-syncing apps and accounts, then changing all my data settings and such in the "settings" section. All of this just to delete some rogue files (25gb) that are taking up space. The easy way would be for apple to give us an option to remove junk files that aren't needed like any other smartphone or tablet would do. I have to be honest, this will be the last Apple product I buy, as a phone that claims to be "user friendly", I can't remember how many times I had to go through hoops just to do the most basic actions. Even iTunes is a joke, I had to do a hard drive link/junction in Windows Powershell because iTunes doesn't allow you to choose which drive iTunes makes a backup in, it defaults to drive C. That in itself is just insane to me. I have a hunch this bloat issue is done purposefully so your hand (as an Apple loyalist) is forced to buy another phone with a larger storage capacity. I don't even need my tin foil hat, I know they intentionally handicap older phones to push sales. Anyway, sorry for the rant, I had to take my frustration out somewhere.....appreciate the video.
Also the other storage category filling up quickly could also cause instabilities such as all apps crashing when you try to launch them or your device getting bricked and stuck in a boot loop if it crashes and automatically force reboots.

Yeah this is absolutely misleading. Wait for a few days and that system data will go back to its original value. System data keeps fluctuating and you can never make it static or totally go away. Don't do what is being told here.
