Not many racers here in USA used the 722.6 for very long, they were blowing them up pretty quickly with the supercharged hemi srt8 engines behind them. they are still really popular in the mercedes community though

Yes, the oil tubes cause a knocking sound. And yes it sounds like rod knock

Very possible that transmission caused The noise as you mentioned.

maybe you just lucked out, had one on my w210 e320, on that car, ive had problems with pretty much everything, except transmission, and on w211 e280 4matic, replaced the fluid once in 5 years, that was it. super reliable

The engine looks very clean inside. I believe the only failure of crank or main bearing failure, will be secondary, but not on this one. Probably one oil tube leaking would not cause catastrophic engine failure. I would replace the timing chain, depending on mileage and the oil tubes. The noise is most probably this transmission failure. This engine is good to go. It looks like it’s been well service with oil changes. Could be only halfway through its life

Oh just a thought when I had my last service my new mechanic noted the correct oil filter kit is extremely important as the Mercedes engineering has a section that goes into the housing that creates correct pressure throughout the engine. Having a mechanic replace this with the incorrect part may cause crankshaft wear and damage piston barring's which could be the knocking I heard in the previous video.

I wonder if the factory converter bush is steel backed as a few of them liked to go for a spin, I find it odd how some pump bushings just go and others last forever? The 722.6 transmissions aren't that stout, K2 bush and sprag failures, my e430 liked to select two gears at once every now and then due to worn overlap bores, tcu getting full of oil, etc. Looking back through the 722.3 revisions, I guess they all had teething issues, grenading b2 pistons and such

My 1996 420 unfortunately has a knock and I'm afraid of taking it to my mechanic. I also have a leak in the power steering unit which is making a mess of the carpet in the garage. Haven't these tanks started to increase in price the last few years.? Yet I will never pass mine on and I have it in mind to purchase a S500 over here in Queensland. A man can never have enough

if thats a 722.6 it may have the same problem with the front pump causing the knock.

The time for M113K with Whipple aftermarket supercharger has arrived! Then you can run an 8.5 1/4 lol

As mentioned to another before- i am the limiting factor when it comes to getting a powerful car. I absolutely cannot be trusted, i am too impulsive, impatient and aggressive at time’s behind the wheel. I have been arrested in the past for this. I cannot afford to lose my license to drive or instantly, i lose everything, my job, my home, everything.

Next time, you should start the video with a clip of the knocking sound just for comparison, I don't know how to tell how bad a sound is or where it's from anyway but it's good to know if we're looking at a used car or something

@@christopher6161 I think the old guy thot bought it new drove it hard every day of its life to have destroyed 2 transmissions in this odometer reading. No doubt about that. Guessing the V8 and V12 torque converters along with those flimsy flex plates can distort quite considerably under full load, then chew out the pump bushing.

The first gen transmissions like this one were indeed full of small issues, but the ones that are modern enough are really bulletproof, that actually takes not much to make a modern gen out of your example

There are aluminum aftermarket tubes available for camshaft lubrication. MB may have also used aluminum in later M119 engines. I don't know a part number.
