This same night Randy Meisner (their Bass player) sung "Take it to the Limit" and its probably the best version ever, of my fav. Eagles song.
I was going warn you about Don Henly and his 60 people crew scouring the internet. Even though the Eagles have great music I'm at the point of saying F the Eagles and Henley. I won't listen to them. I hope this stays up and is not taken down in the days, weeks or months later that I've seen happen on other channels

As a former drummer, you have no idea how incredibly hard it is to sing while you play. Even without singing, you're doing 4 or 5 things at once. It was hard enough for me to keep from rushing as I played. Don Henley was amazing.

I’m also a drummer who’s been playing for many decades, I can play this song but if I was tasked with singing it that would turn into a train wreck, besides I have a crappy singing voice . Ha ! Don Henley was a most underrated drummer. This showed how good he actually was. This also showed you why The Eagles were a hit for so many years.
This is the music I grew up on. The Eagles were a great 70's band with so many hit songs. They were known for their great harmonies. "Take It Easy", "Lyin' Eyes", "Witchy Woman", "Desperado", "Already Gone", "Best of My Love", "One Of These Nights", "Take It To The Limit", "New Kid In Town" etc. Before they went solo they were the back up band for Linda Ronstadt.
Speaking of going solo, after their break-up they all had pretty good solo careers, particularly Don Henley (the singer/drummer).

It's called a double neck guitar, it allows the performer to change from 12 string to 6 string quickly as Don Felder was using in this video.
Yes, Led Zepplin live version Stairway to Heaven Jimmy Page has a great solo on the 12 string. My first exposure was the Byrds, Mr Tamborine Man, Roger McGuinn, love the sound!
I believe, in this case, he had a capo on the top neck which he played at the beginning of the song, and the rest of the song was played on the bottom neck.
That guitar is needed since the song changes keys 7 times!

Probably one of the best songs ever written and performed. Their harmonies were always spot on. The song is actually about the dark side of the music industry.

My favorite live version of this song was the 1998 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance. They are all 20 years older and haven't lost one bit of their passion. My favorite comment on TH-cam on that performance was "When you see that your grandpas are way cooler than you." Classic.

I remember seeing the Hotel California tour in Frankfort Germany while in the army around 1977. I went on to see them a total of 4 times. ALWAYS a fantastic show. Watching them in 1977 I remember watching them thinking there's someone up there who hasn't been with them before. I soon figured out it was the great Joe Walsh. I was thrilled.

The double-neck guitar is a combination of a 12-string which has a more jangly sound as in the introduction, and a 6-string which the lead is played on.
The band prided itself on all members can sing.. Many great songs .. take it to the limit... victim of love....
Hotel California is one of the greatest rock songs that was ever written. And the guitar solo near the end of the song is one of the greatest guitar solos ever heard!!!! And 🎉to think that each of the band members have gone on to great solo career's with great songs that they incorporate into their live performances now when they have a concert .

This is probably the greatest live concert footage to be used as an official video. The only time I had a speeding ticket was coming back from a coal mine call at 3 a.m. in an ambulance with a broken speedometer while listening to this. It was on the radio and jamming to it. With my mind someplace else I didn't notice I passed a state trooper.
I did something similar with the song Radar Love. Trooper asked me why I was in such a rush. I pointed at the radio and said Radar Love. He nodded and said just try to keep it under the limit next time.

The Eagles were one of historys best bands period. They had a hugh catalog.
Only seen them once live. Back in the festable seating days (1sr come best seats) Stood in line for 10 houres. I should have been ealier. Worth every minute I'll never get back.
The music was written by Don Felder (White Double necked guitar) and Don Henley left the Whiskey-a-gogo club in LA, drunk one night and drove all the way to Needles, CA to find some peyote. On the way he wrote the lyrics, passing by desert hotels and contemplating his life. Henley says this is about "Someone losing their innocence, going from adolescence to adulthood, and not being able to go back" " Once you accept the responsibilities of adulthood, you can never regain that childhood innocence. " He loves that fact that hundreds of other meanings have popped up for many people. " Just a simple song about growing up."

Glen Fry died a few years ago. The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are two of the best bands of the 1970's. Joe Walsh and Lindsey Buckingham are both guitar gods!

Fielder was the true genius between him and Walsh. While Walsh ended up more famous I’d say it’s pretty unanimous that people consider Felder to be the better player between the two

l agree also the eagles and fleetwood mac are 2 of my favorites but my top favorite rock band is KISS. first time l heard them was 1977 l was in 8th grade at a friends house in minnesota he showed me the record and played 100,000 years l was blown away.

I saw them with Deacon Frey sitting in for his dad at the Hotel California album tour in early 2020 before Covid hit. Was a magical night.
As far as I recall only Glenn Frey has passed. The Eagles were still touring last I knew. Country Legend Vince Gill came in to fill in the empty place left by Glenn Frey's passing.
The Eagles were always my favorite group. The vocals are always on point. I have been to several of their concerts and even when they came back after their breakup.. their vocals always sounded as good as, if not better than their studio versions. On top of all that.. The Eagles have had some of the best guitar players in the industry.. ever!!

In 1977, Eagles possessed NONE of those things. They were absolutely coked-up out of their heads. I lived in Santa Barbara back then, and my girlfriends Mom was one of their drug counselors. She would get calls at all hours of the night from them or their management to go to wherever they were to try to intervene.

I was 15 yrs old when the Hotel California Album was released. I feel lucky to have been a teenager in the 70's. Great music great bands. I saw the Eagles couple yrs after this concert video in 1979. Im almost 63 now and still love the Eagles. RIP Randy (my heart❤) and Glenn.

The Eagles are so good. On stage, you can see that they are having a good time. So many great songs, such an easy listen.
They were amazing in concert. Saw them 4 times. Twice early on and twice on their "Hell Freeze's Over" tour. So many memories.
You gotta see the live acoustic version from the HELL FREEZES OVER reunion special. Hearing this played acoustically after waiting so long for them to get back together was an amazing moment.

The Hotle California is a Halfway House for the Rich and Famous. They go There to clean themselves of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism. "Stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the Beast." The (Beast) is their (Addiction) they cannot control. "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave." Once an addict always an addict. The alcoholic and drug addict will always have the temptation of reverting to their old addictions. One of the greatest songs ever written. Brilliant!

Love this live version. You would, I think, love SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD and songs like DESPERADO PEACEFUL EASY FEELING, TEQUILA SUNRISE(my personal fave), THEY MUST HAVE HAD many many hits. Its a huge rabbit hole to tumble into.

Love The Eagles went a long way from originally forming as a country rock band until discovered and taken on tour by Linda Ronstadt.
Don, Glenn, Bernie and Randy were all veterans of different bands and werent even a band together until they were selected to back up Linda Ronstadt.
I'm a lifelong Eagles fan. My true musical heroes. Saw them live from the front row in Jacksonville back in March and I will tell you that They Still Got It! Like listening to an album perfection. Glad you did this one! Peace and Love!

You're right, watching Don Felder and Joe Walsh play is insane! They compliment each other perfectly. I don't mean to take you on another tangent, but another incredible song that showcased guitar playing right around that time was "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits... if you get the chance.

It’s such a great album. I think another song, that’s actually musically very different, has the same theme, “Life in the fast lane”, you should check it out. However my favorite from the album is “the last resort”, which gives me goosebumps each time.

Yes, this one is a perfect rendition and there is another one out there. That’s my favorite song of theirs that gets blocked, blocked and blocked. I can’t stand on Henley for that. I also blame Glenn Frey before he died. It’s just plain greed. But I do love their music the one I’d love you to hear & react to is Take It To The Limit, live and I believe the same concert. Bass player, Randy Meisner plays and sings this song, but he and the two founders Henley & Frey didn’t get along and shortly after the perfect concert I’m talking about, Randy and Glen Frey came to physical blows, and Randy left. Randy was very shy and didn’t like the spotlight. take it to the limit was the usual encore, and he was afraid he could not hit the high notes that night. Frey kept on him and on him until they physically fought and Randy not long after 😢. Noone can sing it like Randy Meisner did. Joe Walsh is also a favorite because he’s such a cut up & so talented! joe is the one in the bandanna and Randy Meisner, my favorite because he is so humble, talented and kind is in this video too, on the far left with the long dark hair. If you can find take it to the limit live from i think this same concert, Randy will be wearing a light plaid shirt.Please try to do it. It’s strong with blocking but it’s even a more perfect song than this one played in concert. I just want so many people to know about that song and Randy’s beautiful voice so I try to get as many people as I can to react to it Love your channel!

I was at this concert. Capital center in Maryland. It was the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Brown Joe Walsh and Dan Fogelberg. Even though Joe Walsh has the single lead guitar in this song he played his own set, I believe I paid 17 dollars for my ticket.
Thank God we will always have the music of this era.

Your reactions are nice. After co-founder Glenn Frey passed away in January of 2016, both Vince Gill and Glenn’s son Deacon played with the band. Watch Hotel California from their Live In Melbourne 2005 concert. 4 piece horn section, extra percussionist, and 2 extra keyboard players. The entire 2 hour concert used to be on TH-cam, but I think it’s been taken down. Their licensing restrictions are very strict.
The band has changed members a couple of times. Glenn Frey died a few years ago, Randy Meisner who left the Eagles in the late 70's early 80's died this past year. Everyone else is alive past and present. They are still touring and still sound fantastic! Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (Glenn's son) are now part of the group.
Saw them live 3 times. They sound exactly like you eye listening to them on the radio. They can harmonize so good

This is my first Bars & Barbells video. The young lady looks like a combination of a young Beverly D'Angelo and Liv Tyler. I _LOVE_ the Eagles and this song is one of my all-time favorites. Their live shows are amazingly true to the studio versions. They harmonize on stage (vocally) better than any band I've heard.

Maryland 1977, I was at this concert. It was a helluva showcase. I lived then just outside DC. I also saw Heart, Chicago, Boz Skaggs, Billy Joel, Bread, America, Three Dog Night, Juice Newton, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John, the Beach Boys, John Mellencamp, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and many more.
They were awesome live. Saw them several times.
The Eagles are noted for live performance perfection, well deserved, as they rehearse the crap out of their songs.

The singer/drummer is Don Henley, and he is the drummer with the best singing voice in all of rock music. He is also a world-class songwriter, with dozens of hits that he either wrote himself or co-wrote. Including this song (Hotel California) -- it was co-written by Henley (lyrics), Glenn Frey (lyrics) and Don Felder (music). Don Felder is the guy with the double-neck guitar, and Glenn Frey is the one playing an acoustic guitar.
One of the unusual things about the Eagles is that they had four lead singers. In the lineup in this video, Frey, Henley, Randy Meissner (bass) and Joe Walsh (2nd lead guitar) all sang lead on various songs. You can pretty much count the groups who do that on one hand (Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bangles, maybe a couple others).
Nope sorry; have to correct the record here. It was solely Don Felder who wrote the music for this song. It's well documented in their 3hr documentary called History of The Eagles, and on his tutorial video here where he teaches you how to play HC in B Minor. A demo of the instrumental was developed by Don Felder[12][13] in a rented house on Malibu Beach. He recorded the basic tracks with a Rhythm Ace drum machine and added a 12 string guitar on a four-track recording deck in his spare bedroom, then mixed in a bassline, and gave Don Henley and Glenn Frey each a copy of the recording.[14] Felder, who met the Eagles through his high school bandmate Bernie Leadon, said that Leadon advised him to make tapes of songs he wrote for the band so that other band members like Henley, whose forte is in writing lyrics, might work with him on finishing the songs they liked.[15] The demos he made were always instrumental, and on every album project he would submit 15 or 16 ideas. So according to Wikipedia (which quotes Don Felder on the subject), the music was done by Felder and the lyrics done by Henley/Frey. Which is what I said in my original comment.

Far from the "American Beatles". Give me a break. The Beatles revolutionized pop/rock music. The Eagles released a few good albums and have a handful of great tunes. They took CSNYs and Poco's country rock and slicked it up LA style. Nowhere close.
You need to take this video down. The Eagles are a TOUGH bunch about copywrite infringement and are known to take channels down. They are ruthless and a strike against your channel is guaranteed. Cheers.
I bought the album in 1977 and was in love with it from the first second I heard it till now... Nothing compares to The Eagles. Wonderful musicians who gave us wonderful music! ❤
I have watched this video maybe a 1000 times. It never gets old and I see/hear/feel something new every time.
The superior quality of riffing between those fellas is a once in a life time viewing...so rare.
We used to call that stupid talent...because you can't have that level of talent..it's stupid. Of course, I'm way, way old... times changed.
