7:25 I was surprised to see you reusing mixed colors in your pan from a former painting! Toby, you are a MAD MAN! I LOVE it! Thanks for teaching me that conditions and materials don't need to be "perfect" in order to produce a beautiful end result.
What I really like is how much thought you put in your lines and color choices. When I thought loose I mistakenly thought everything is spontaneous, free of planning or much thought. It seems that the important part is learning to work with what happens spontaneously. Making the “happy accident” work for you.
I rarely comment under videos and most of the time it is part of a discussion, but I have to thank you! I'm 26 years old and I never really was creative besides problem solving. I was always more of a rational person and less an artistic one. The few times I tried drawing I was frustrated after only 2 strokes or so. The line was't straight enough, or it was to straight and everything was awful and I was frustrated. You and urban sketching as an art form helped me to discover an amazing way to express myself. I never thought I would see the day where I'm not only finishing a drawing but be proud of what I did. And then do it again. and again. Thank you so much! Your videos are amazing, you are amazing and I wish you nothing but the best!
Toby! your channel is reinvigorating my desire to return to some urban sketching, after some years of focus on abstract work. Thanks so much for your generosity.
Great video, as always.I'm 37 and new to sketching/watercolour. Your videos help me enjoy art to its fullest, embracing "mistakes" on the page and, more importantly, teaching my children that art isn't about perfection.
One of my favorite sketches to sketch! I like 4 easy-to-accomplish-steps with the "pop" of red at the end ! It all made sense and was so fun to work with you, Tobi! I enjoy doing your tutorials along with you. Thank you for sharing your talent with us on TH-cam!! By the way, I'm from Michigan in the US.
I really admire your work. I was wondering, for the upcoming Halloween season if you could paint, a haunted house, dark sky, full moon love to see how you approach this image.
Wonderful, as always. This process you’ve shown has been really helpful, because without it my approach had been random and, to be charitable, not very effective.
Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials, I've always struggled with too many details, but I can already see an approvement, yay. Keep it up, many greetings from Bavaria❤
Wonderful lesson, easy to follow. My only problem is how do we pick the colours, and what should we colour? I thought that the blue truck was going to become blue, I thought we had to paint the roofs, but I was wrong. Do you have a video on deciding what to paint? I love it all, but I seem to complicate things when I go to paint. Any tips are welcome :) Thank you and I love the 5 steps :)
th-cam.com/video/NmRFO8UvknE/w-d-xo.html That's a short video on what not to paint :) There are no hard rules, it's up for you to decide. I'll think about how to convert your answer into a video!
Lovely sketch. I do like this style of sketching and painting, but I do keep looking for every little blasted detail and my art (if one can call it that) suffers and my eraser works harder than my pen. 😳 I’ll certainly keep trying. Thank you. 😊
If you wash your brush out the put it in your mouth at some spit to the to shape it back into a point it will maintain its shape and escaping hair back into place…
Hi Toby. Thank you for your always very interesting tutorials and your good mood. I really like the spirit in which you approach watercolour. I just have a small question: could you tell me what paper you use? (I'm French, excuse my English "google translation" 🙂)
Thanks for the comment and question :) This is Hahnemuhler anniversary edition - find it on my website where I list my supplies www.urbansketch.co.uk/supplies
Les teves aquerel.les son molt divertides, felicitats per la feina. Et voldria preguntar per les teves mans: tens algun problema amb elles? Per que les ensenyes tant? Les trobes interesants? Gracies .

Well said! Yes loose requires, ironically, some kind of structured thinking (I think..)

First!
Quite a rack of trophies you're building up!
@@TobySketchLoose Oh, I built that rack long before I subscribed to your channel 🤣🤣🤣

Google translates this as 'do you have problems with your hands' ... if that's really what your asking then I don't know how to answer that 😂
Could you give us a list of your colours plese. I need to simplify!
YEs - check the supplies link on all my videos :)
How do you store your ink pens with the nibe up or down in a jar or horizontal on a table???
Horizontal... all over the place haha... but horizontal
@@TobySketchLoose ok great thank you so much
My Cobalt blue (DS) is darker than yours for some reason?
Either - a dodgy batch, your using more water than me, or simply an effect of filming vs real life :)
