Mind-boggling. There can be no equal to this way of Hi(story)telling. So much story about a single road. Not even a single minute of boredom. A walking encyclopedia of Madras. The story of Madras, i think will be bigger and longer than the Mahabharatha. I am sure Sriram can tell a story of every road and street and lane of Chennai and Every building of Chennai from 1639 till 2023 and onwards, a stretch of 384 years, still continuing.. A great amount of tireless efforts. Infinite pearls of information in this jewel-box of research. You deserve endless awards and accolades.

My childhood was spent in a house opposite Children Garden School. I can relate to almost all the houses covered in your tour.
Superb coverage with lots of history (and that too from memory; you rarely seem to be referring to your phone) and a great sense of humor. Kudos ji. Hats off. Well spent 1 hour and 42 minutes👏👏👏

Oh versatile ; People like you are only needed for our society. Kudos to your memory. You very well deserve a Doctorate.
My late great grand father, Advocate L.S.Veeraraghava Iyer, had a property of about 21 grounds at 4/22, Royapettah High Road ( famously called Home park) while his cousin Diwan Bahadur Sri. L.A. Govindaraghava Iyer, Sr.Advocate , Madras High court, had a palatial bungalow on Edward Elliots Road - Royapettah Road junction. The later was the first person to Garland Mahatma Gandhi when he first visited Madras. In both houses bell used to ring every day morning for Athithi bhojan, which was acknowledged by Kanchi Seer, Chandra Sekarandra Saraswati swamigal. Gone were the days.

Dr E.V. Srinivasan had his clinic at Triplicane opposite Parthasarathi Kovil Post Office. He prescribed my first glasses in 1959. His rule was "Open your eyes, but don't talk".
I was born in a house, delivered by an ayah. My siblings were delivered by E.V. Kalyani.
Father and daughter were stern but kind to poor.

I cant express in words when I listened to the stories you told, Sriram. These are all stories you have actually personally as a resident of this street saw or heard from people close which makes me feel the same experience I had when my mother interestingly would tell her 1930s life's patti, periamma, chithi, and a large family of both her father and mother. only difference my mother's people are not popular, but yours all famous personalities whom I have admired like MLV, Bade Gulam Ali Khan. I thought only S BALACHANDER FAMILY GNB would have been their hosts when BGA would come to Madras because of the group photos taken at Mahabalipuram available. But MLV was his host is very surprising and the opinion BGA held of this music genius that MLV is, proves how her music has attracted a unquestionable king of hindustani of music far away in Pakistan. Appuram vazhndu kettavargal kadai that is also interesting. Thanks Sriram, a really unforgettable experience.

Real gem of a find on TH-cam.. brought back memories of my trainee days in early 90s, walking on the Radhakrishnan Salai from my favourite restaurant near Music academy to my room at Nungambakkam high road .

I lived in the vicinity of RK salai for a decade, going to my school, college, meeting friends, wandering with and without any aim.. never had I known this road is enriched with such history and remarkable events.. Amazing sir. Wish next time I come back to Madras, there is a heritage walk. Want to listen to you live..
P.S. The person in the group in a dark green shirt with light green collar resembles Manoj Bajpayee greatly.. :)

Dear Sriram V - Just stumbled on this video; Amazing history; We resided in CIT Colony from 87 through 92 & then subsequently on Luz Church Road from 92 through 95; During that time I went out of town to college but was back in Chennai almost every weekend; I had a bicycle & used to wander around in Mylapore; Drove up & down Radhakrishnan Salai admiring the huge houses; today i know a lot more about these houses by virtue of your tour. Many thanks. I know we have similar history of Luz Church Road with the houses of Alladi, Judge C.V.Ananthakrishnan & C.A.Vaidyanathan (behind old Canopy restaurant) etc; If you have a similar video for that, that will be very interesting. Totally admire your knowledge of this area. Hands down. Looking forward to more of it. Best.

It is being mentioned that Mr.A.S.A.Samy was one of the persons responsible for actor Sivaji Ganesan’s continuance in the movie Parasakthi , in fact it was Mr. Perumal Mudaliar , the producer of the movie who was determined to retain Sivaji as the hero.
