Hi Norman, I want to thank you for your clear and helpful explanations which give such pleasure to follow. My mother taught me to knit Continental style when I was 5 just after migrating to Australia and I absolutely loved knitting. Later on at 14 years of age at school (1967)..I was told by my teacher to “knit using English method only as it is the correct way otherwise you will fail the subject” . You can imagine how confusing it was not just for me but for my mother too who had never heard there was a right way…and wrong way to knit🤣🤣. The end result was….I now knit very slowly English method. Watching you knit Continental method seems more relaxing and flowing. I feel confident to try relearning this way with the help of your wonderful videos.

      @@NimbleNeedles hey Norman,
is it possible that you help me with a problem?
when i turn the work around i dont end up with what you do.
      it looks inverted.
i am following the videos to knit and then purl but when it comes to the purl it doesnt end up right. i cant even start a row because there are 2 strings of yarn. the backside is in the front.
i really dont know how to describe the issue properly but when you take the moment of you turning your work around but don't start just yet,
the yarn connected to your index finger is going through a loop. your loop looks like an arch. down-up-down.
when i flip my work i get a u-shape at this position.

    Norman! Help!
Here is the question. What am I missing? So, the pattern I just started shows below.
    Row 1(rs) - k4 M1L knit to last 4 sts, M1R, k4
    Row 2(ws)- k4, M1R knit to last 4, M1L, p4
On Row2, after knitting 4sts, where I have to do M1R, the strand is doubled because what I did on the first row. It makes a little hole. Is this right to you? I am confused... The pattern does not mention anything about the double strands. Please help!

Do you use two needles when casting on stitches, then removing one needle, as the means to get stitches that aren’t too tight? I try my hardest to remember to relax a bit when casting on and knitting the first row, but somehow still get tight stitches. I am new to knitting, and find this to be an ongoing issue.

    • @NimbleNeedles

as for this video..this was one of my earliest videos where I knew literally nothing about videography, youtube or whatever. The tapping noise is my macro lens focusing. It's a constant uphill battle I am fighting.
I can solve the problem by recording the audo separately...but that's a) very time consuming and b) often weirdly out of synch.
I just bought a new lens and a new mic and see if I can fix it. but in the newer videos i always edit it out. But sometimes it's also the needles hitting the table, etc.

you do know that you can press on the settings button and change the speed. So, if I am knitting too fast for you, just play ing at 50% of the speed ;-)

@@NimbleNeedles i did that, thank you. Sorry, the comment must've come across as rude. I'm having a bad day, that's all. Thank you for responding :)

@@pratigya_berwal no worries. This was one of my very first videos I recorded and there's certainly a lot to improve. Just wanted to point that out because a lot of viewers are not aware of that. I recently started a second channel where I show things much clearer and try to include slow-mo shots as well

You promise to show “best cast on for stockinette” at the start of your video but then proceed to just start casting-on with long tail cast on (ONTO TWO NEEDLES btw! - which doesn’t improve stretch but only causes those stitches to be really large and slack but doesn’t improve stretch because the strand holding the stitches along the edge is what actually allows for the stretch 🤦🏼‍♀️)
I’ve enjoyed your other videos but this one really doesn’t deliver. Look at the mechanics of the LTCO and you will see what I mean. Use contrasting colors to visually “divide” the long tail from the stitches you are casting onto your doubled-up needles and you will see exactly what I’m describing. I am so disappointed. Just wasted 10 + minutes of my life plus the time to comment. 🙄

Formost i promise "for beginners". If you expect content for advanced knitters, kindly click on a video that specifically mentions that.
Secondly, I do knit 50% of my stockinette stitch projects wih a LTCO and around two needles. It doesn't look sloppy for me, and most people I meet are unsure whether I bought or knitted stuff myself.
Thirdly, this video has a link in its description. Follow it, for cast-on alternatives.
And, last, but certainly not least. Please, if you want to critize someone, do it with respect. If you want to teach someone, ask them first, if they atualyl want to. It might come across as rude otherwise.
