  • HARLEY DAVIDSON 1976 SS250 / "DONE/FIRST RIDE" is a restoration video. this is a 1976 SS250 2 stroke 250cc. I bought this bike off of craigslist down in NJ. It does not run , it dose have compression , but no spark. I do not have the key and, its missing several pieces. Watch along, and see what it takes for me to get this barn find up and running. As always, everybody ride safe and live life behind bars.

Do you have the diagram of how you hot wired the ignition to 3 way?

Whats the right side sparkplug for ? doesnt seem to have a cable connected to? also, can you share some info about the oil lines routing coming to and from the oil tank? thanks! I have the exact same bike, its a rescue from a barn and putting it back together.

The right side spark plug actually is just a spare they both go into the same cylinder, that's for just in case you foul a spark plug when you're out riding around, you can switch to the other plug. As far as oil lines they use the backbone of the frame as a oil storage unit. The lines run from that down to the oil pump it has a throttle cable that is a split throttle cable. Meaning it is one throttle cable from your throttle, and about halfway down it splits and one side goes to the carburetor and one side goes to the oil pump. So the more gas you give it , the more oil it gets to mix with the gas to keep the oil and gas mixture right. The problem with this setup is that the oil pump is notorious for failing, and when it fails you stop getting oil mixing with the gas and you wind up blowing up your motor. There's no way to tell when it stops working or if an oil line gets plugged up, so what most people including myself do is they mix the two stroke oil with the gas before putting it in the gas tank. Run it that way, and disconnect the cable going to the oil pump that way you don't ever have to worry about it. If you decide to use the oil pump and you want it set up the way it should be just keep that in mind. I would suggest getting a parts manual for the bike, and a repair manual. The repair manual will tell you how everything goes together and how to fix it and adjust things , the parts manual will show you every section of the bike and every part as an exploded version so you'll know how everything goes together and comes apart. Please if you haven't already done so, consider subscribing I got another one of these I'm going to be doing over the summer it's a 1975 please tell your friends about the channel and as always ride safe and live life Behind Bars.
