A friend of mine used to provide security for stage areas/performers on behalf of a concert promoter in the UK in the 90s. Prince was touring and was hit by a sudden strike by roadies and crew not specific to Prince but affecting his final set up of instruments and monitors on stage. My friend was a tall bald intimidating looking Scotsman who was on security on stage and he saw Prince personally tune and set up each instrument and monitor personally, and expertly linked up with the mixing desk so he could perform that night. Prince asked him to help move/ set up the heavier items and he was so full of admiration and respect for Princes attitude and competence and work ethic that he helped him as he was not a member of the union on strike. @@hardlines2635 My use of the word electric is an adjective describing a visceral, stimulating performance. Not the guitar itself being acoustic or electric.
Perfect description sir.
His pick/finger change at 2:31 was ridiculously smooth.
Caught that too-how many times does he do it and it goes unnoticed?
He's great and all, but stop with that undeserved compliment festival. I feel like I'm one scroll down from seeing a comment praising the way he sits...
@@NiePieerdolwell, he does sit pretty cool.
He was a perfectionist!
I like that you picked up on that, perfectionism in music or sports is a psychosis, but healthy, when I sang in a band I would sing one single song in practice by myself at least 100 times, to deliver "perfect" vocals.
He got the audience eating out of his hands. The ultimate showman. This dude was in a league of his own. Those who got the chance to see him live were truly blessed to have experienced his genius first hand.
He was electrifying 💜💜💜💜
I saw him in London at the O2 in 2007/8, can't remember exactly. But he was amazing.
This man knew how to work an audience. And, what current artist can sit on a stool and even do what he did here on a musical level? Hands down...the greatest Artist of my generation.
John Mayer
Really? damn your generation must have had piss-poor Talent.. I couldn't honestly watch the whole thing I just can't stand his voice and the guitar playing wasn't very good.
Sounds like a personal problem to me. You'll be alright...
matTooly.... Your either trolling, or have no ear for music ... Either way your an idiot ....
@@leestevenson7756 THIS! I'm guessing he's a combo. A trolling idiot. Either way, you're spot on.
That’s an actual musician right there, the man was and always will be a legend!
MN will represent Prince for life. We're lucky to have him
One of my favorite performances of Cream from Prince. Love it!
@@TomPlotagon I'm everywhere! lol
Lawrence Cowley I don’t comment on every video, but I have to do it when they are this good! Cheers!
Hi, what's up? 👁👁 was human like us, was he not? But, he was, & 4 - ever will always, be truly a real God send too all!! Thanks 4 our , Artist! Have a great day ya all & an even better weekend. 👁💜👁 on...🐾🐱🐾
Its amazing!! I remember this performance and it was so cool and funny.
ME 2!!!
He truly was a genius. RIP
This guy was a fucking genius!
his smile at 1:57 so so pretty 😍
Yes
Love his interaction with the crowd he so playful it's adorable 😊
His hands...just glides over the strings effortlessly...ultra smooth..
Stevie Wonder once said in an interview, "As long as Prince is making music, I'm not worried."
Hes up there still making music.
Heck yeah, he is@@MrHBox
You're so good .... and you're so COOL ......
Miss this beautiful musician.
This is the most insane display of musical talent I've ever seen.
Perhaps one of the greatest musician of the last 50 years.
Contested by Michael Jackson
Perhaps. But there were also the Beatles. There was Freddie Mercury. ALL TOP OF THE LINE. We don't have to choose a "best."
@@sirdjorgostarcopper8735 I pm
Prince did it all and at the highest level. Vocal talent. Writing talent. Ability on every instrument. And if he never wrote or sang a word in his life he’d still go down as one of the greatest guitarists ever.
@@TheVeek192 But if we did, it would be Prince.
Loved this guy throughout my life, now I'm turning 54 wish he was still here.😢
me too I’m 51 this year ❤🎉
Bro 🇮🇹53yo & still rappresenting in my ;)purple Life ..
There are artists that can't be ranked. There can never be another. Those who grew up with him in his prime (from when he started till the day he left us) are incredibly grateful.
That would be me,been listening to Prince, since 1979 and he never disappointed me at all
That's the perfect way to explain the artists of this calibre
I love it when he said he wrote this while looking in the mirror. Prince always had a good since of humor.
I think to think it was a cheeky remark but he was actually serious
He was serious
To exho those who alread spoke, He definitely meant that.
@@bananababylonHe wasn't serious. He was clearly joking ! It's a well known western culture habit to follow up a joke with " I'm serious " after a blatent tongue in cheek remark. It shouldn't give slow on the uptake dafties the excuse to take that "I'm serious " literally .
@@mynameisGail he's made this remark while playing this song during other live shows. It works as a funny ad lib but I'm pretty sure he's also serious. It's Prince after all. The lyrics are like a pep talk to himself.
This and Nessun Dorma by Pavarotti always makes me cry, every time
Man the more I look at Prince's playing the more I'm amazed. I mean there's not really a lot to that song technically speaking, it's like two chords and a handful of fills. But it is just so dripping in Prince's natural funk that I could never get close to replicating it.
That “psych” comment before tossing the ring to a fan lol. Prince was in a category all by himself. Genius musician and entertainer.
TH-cam has allowed me appreciate Prince's genius level talent (people who can do things you haven't even yet imagined) far more than when I was young and thought that some of his singles were "catchy". As a musican and singer/songwriter he has to be one of the best ever but as a perfomer I can't think of an equal.
Yep simply the best
I love Prince and I love this song and him and the girl that plays in Vanity 6 used to go together
If he wasn't so good at everything else he would be considered one of the best guitarists in recent years
The guy was, without question, a genius.
He Throws in those fills in the right places while singing as natural as person pouring coffee. Lol
GOAT Undisputed Champion of the Music World
Showmanship. Crowd control. Just a guitar & the audience. Dude was too ill for words... And he knew it.
Prince was a class act, intelligent, he could have made a good teacher, he did mentor artists. I'd have liked a teacher like him, I looked up to him.!
@@lp9155 did you catch the part where he fakes out an audience member & throws his ring to another while saying, "sike"? 😄 Playing with the crowd.
yep. I thought that was a guitar pic!
@@lp9155 yeah, you're probably right
I absolutely loved Prince's impish sense of humour - a bona fide musical genius and a genuinely funny guy. That to me was something very special.
When you’re having a bad day, put on your earbuds and get lost in the magic of Prince. 💜
Such a naughty song 🎵
프린스 음악은 많이 듣지만 이런 인간적인 매력이 있는 줄은 몰랐음. 매력 쩐다.
I love when artists strip down their hits and do acoustic versions of them.
My favorites are Jimmy Hendrix and Nirvanna's. I love it when songs are covered with the exact same notes and lyrics but with different instruments, and have an entirely diferent tone.
cf Eric Clapton (Layla)
@@Croustisam yes definitely
Yeh me too.
Sometimes, it works. Other times...meh.
I'm in my late 30's. This singular performance of this song is better than pretty much anything I've heard in the past decade. No Memorex baby.
I just did a tour of paisley Park. This man really did it all.
An arguement can be made that some individuals may have been a better singer, dancer , song writer, musician than prince. But no one was a better overall artist combining all those skills in 1 human being. Best to walk on planet earth.
The best
Prince performs and simultaneously gives a masterclass on singing on pitch
they were not in time, that was the problem.
@@namelessclown5798 I always thought it was they weren't loud enough.
@@DJdext it is because they weren’t loud enough. These other comments are just trying to sound more informed or something
I'm pretty sure she just meant that Prince was singing on pitch so well that he displayed the right way to do it, cause not every famous singer can really sing this well. But I could be wrong
@@namelessclown5798 No their pitch was off.
Wow on top of being a genius also capable of genuinely just having a fun time with his audience. It's almost like he's cracking jokes with friends a the bar. And at the same time overwhelming them. I mean come on!! Them lucky bastards seeing him play in such a small venue..
"I wrote this song while looking in the mirror"!!! If there ever was anyone who had every right to brag about himself, it was Prince!
Saw Prince in Milwaukee in 2000~ish. Not sure how I would feel today if I never saw him LIVE. I remember like yesterday.
You are fortunate!🎉
We lost a musical prodigy when Prince died. Super talent is rare and Prince was platinum.
Yep
I could listen to Prince play the guitar like this all day..
Makes today’s singers look untalented pure class
Agreed
Now that's how you end a song what a class act .
he's always been on another level, by his guitar playing, by his voice, by his soul, by his showmanship...
You just raised the level of stupidity to like 9000
“You know I wrote this while I was lookin in the mirror, right? I’m serious.”
What an absolute legend.
Stops and talks about himself ya a legend 😂. That guy doesn't have a clue what music is
@@AreMullets4AustraliansOnly imagine bach stopping his symphony so he can talk about his day that's the opposite of musical instinct and something that even average musicians would never willfully do while performing seems like he has about 2 yrs experience

Only Prince could scold the crowd and get by with it... a gifted guitarist, singer, writer.
